Welcome to the Star Festival Contest! [Intro by Teki, posted on his behalf] Music rang out from an amphitheater that had served as the stage for this contest ever since its inception, and despite the space theme, was something more upbeat, in the traditional Pokémon Contest style. The sky was clear, showing both the stars and the comet that the entire event, contest included, was themed around, and the air was filled with the clamor of the crowd as everyone continued to fill the seats and the Coordinators steeled their hearts backstage. Many commented on the almost alien feel of the place, thanks to the amphitheater looking so old that it was hard to tell when it was made, though workers kept it in good condition and preserve the age at the same time.
When midnight came and the seats were filled, a young lady, dressed in a flowing robe of black with imagery of forming stars, showing the side of her leg and a generous amount of her cleavage walked onto the stage, holding a microphone. A smile was on her face as a spotlight hit her, her hips shaking to the beat of the music, even as it faded into the background, providing a backdrop to her voice as she turned and addressed the audience.
“HAPPY MIDNIGHT, EVERYONE! IS EVERYONE READY?!””
She paused, waiting for the crowd’s roar of cheering, giggling into the microphone before continuing,
“That’s what I like to hear! Liggs people really like to show their love!” The idol gave a sweet pose, putting her finger against her head, pushing her chest out a little bit, and giving the crowd a happy wink. “Of course you all know me, the idol Jasmine and announcer this evening! Let’s make our introductions short and sweet by meeting our judges! First up is a very beautiful lady, the resident Professor, not to mention and amazing photographer, Michiru Morgause!" Jasmine smiled as she motioned to the professor, adding a playful wink.
“Oh you’re too kind Jasmine.” Michiru smirked, setting her camera on the desk in front of her as she kept eying up and down the announced with a small smirk and light curiosity in her eyes. “I hope you’ll all give me some good shots today, good luck. And Jasmine, I’ll be having a private shoot with you later.” She winked, not the first idol she’d had a private photo shoot with lately and it certainly wasn’t going to be the last.
Jasmine smiled softly in reply. “I would love that! Contact my agent anytime! Let’s hear it for the professor, everybody!” She smiled as the crowd roared, walking just a few steps to the next desk. “Next on our panel of judges is a last minute replacement, a friend of the judge that has sadly come down with an illness, Lucia Hale!" As the crowd cheered for her, Jasmine waved dramatically to Lucia, giving her a warm smile and blowing a kiss at her.
Lucia smiled as she was introduced, waving to both the announcer and the audience in greeting and waving off the thanks as if it was nothing at the same time. She smiled warmly until the crowd died down, finally addressing it, “Thank you very much. In spite of my being here as a last-minute replacement, I'm greatly looking forward to seeing what our Coordinators' have to offer~!”
Jasmine turned back to the crowd, stepping to the next desk, motioning to the empty seat. “And next is… oh!” Playfully bopping herself on the forehead, she looked at the audience, “That’s right! The third judge is going to be one of you Contest fans by raffle! Can I get a card, please?” She looked offstage, humming gently to the music away from the mic as she took the card, flipping it between her fingers dramatically, smiling at the crowd, “Who’s it gonna be? Looks like it’s Row 5, Seat 32! Spotlight, please!”
She pointed towards the crowd, then turned her arm to actually point at the person in question, a young brunette girl that was surprised to have a spotlight on her. “Oh, another cute girl! Come on up here!” Though she was nervous, the girl and her Pikachu started to run down after some gentle nudging and a cheering crowd, climbing up onto the stage – rather than take the stairs on the side. Jasimine giggled into the microphone when she finally got on. “What’s your name, sweetheart~?”
“Emily Styles,” the younger girl said as the mic was offered to her, “I’m not sure if I’m qualified to be a judge, but I’m gonna do my best!” The Pikachu on her shoulder nodded, adding in a cheerful, “Pika Pikachu!”
Jasmine laughed, then motioned Emily to her seat before addressing the crowd again. “And there you have it, everyone! Three lovely ladies are your judges! Coordinators, get ready to impress! Everyone wants to see you rock the stage and give a show that’s really outta this world!” With a dramatic flourish, the music began to build louder as she spoke higher with it, “The Appeals round is about to begin! Who’s ready to be dazzled by the awesome effort of some amazing Coordinators?!”
The crowd – and the third judge – roared in excitement as the music got even louder, then began to fade, the lights cutting out, a spotlight hitting the first coordinator as they started to come out.
“Then let’s welcome our first contestant!”

….Well that was one hell of a performance to follow up on. Lucien took a slow breath trying to cool his frantically beating heart. He was not nervous just… just… ok maybe a little nervous. It was ok to be a little nervous, right? Right. Though… he really hoped he hadn’t misinterpreted what the appeals round was supposed to be. That performance wasn’t exactly what he had had in mind. Well, oh well right? Right, heh.
Walking onto the stage dressed in a simple black suit with a purple undershirt and a white tie, he might not have stood out immediately. It was the violin painted in a purple, pink, swirled galactic style that would catch most people’s eyes. That and the white bow in his other hand. Between two fingers, he also carried a Pokeball that would be tossed almost immediately after he’d come to the center. Akamu, his Clefable, would take the stage in front of him, bowing deeply right off. “Readeh?” Lucien whispered. The Clefable righted himself and nodded. Lucien grinned. Alright, here they go!
Golden eyes raised to the crowd. “Lucien Benoit’s the name, ‘n dis’s mah friend Akamu! Thanks fer having uz!” he called loudly waving before shifting the violin onto his shoulder and holding the bow carefully. Glancing towards the sound box director, he gave a nod. Beats and lower music immediately filled the air before the voice of the violin spilled out into the air. Swaying with the motions slowly, Lucien walked up and around the stage keeping the pacing well. Taking long swerving steps, he’d occasionally pause and pose dramatically.
Akamu, meanwhile, swayed with the music and started out with a Misty Terrain. Immediately the stage was swept up with a soft pink glow. The Clefable was not done, however, and used a Cosmic Power before starting a slow winding, twisting step around Lucien. The stars generated by the Cosmic Power spread outward shimmering in the sea of soothing special pink. Using Cosmic Power several more times, Akamu filled the area with glistening shimmering stars. Twirling and twisting in time with the sounds, the Clefable showed off at every turn.
At the climax of the music, Akamu began to form a Moon Blast summoning up a bright light above them. Before it was completed, however, the Clefable leapt into the air with a Meteor Mash in hand and slammed it breaking the ‘moon’ apart and releasing dozens more stars. Letting the music finish, Lucien stood taller again. Both he and Akamu would give a bow before skipping off the stage.

Late at night when all the world is safe Within their dreams
| Late at night a restless feeling takes Control of me and I can't fight it
| 0799 words Performers | She could feel her heart pounding in her chest. The Announcer had finished with the judges, and she was in the dressing room getting ready. She was terrified of going on stage. She had judged one contest last year, with Josh and Honoka but now she was going to be performing. She was a breeder now, but Tesla and her other Pokemon had been insistent on entering his Contest.
They had spent weeks working, with and without music. Getting every move just right. She had put forth every effort in preparing their costumes, as well as her own.
Taking a deep breath, her golden eyes didn't stare back in the mirror. Instead dark blue contacts had replaced them. Her normally bright strawberry blonde hair had been dyed deep midnight blue. She pulled the hood up over her hair that was hiding her outfit. As she walked to the stage entrance, her six chosen Pokemon following proudly behind her. She stopped beside the technician and explained her routine, and handed him the the music track.
After the first performer left the stage and the cheers of excitement and adoration died down. The young woman in the black velvet cloak stood at the stage entrance. Her heart was beating so loudly in her ears, she felt like she was going to cry. Then she felt the soft pressure of her team pressing close to her body. Their warmth for her encouragement she took a deep breath as the lights on the stage went out and the surrounding area darkened.
A soft and sombre Piano tune began to play. followed by the sweet lilting voice of the cloaked young woman, slowly followed by eight Pokemon, which took places on the stage.
A soft yet dark mist back lit by red flames began to rise p as if creating a horizon of the setting sun. As the orange and pink mist began to rise up and Fade into a dark cloud like sky, an Eevee ran from the group of Pokemon and loosed a Swift attack which was caught in the air by a Psychic attack from a nearby Gothorita, placed to the side of the misty curtain now acting as a backdrop. Creating a Moonless sky from the Misty Terrain of the nearby Audion stationed to the back of the stage.
The Piano began to fade and mix with with soft chime. A Minior began to rise from the darkness. It had been a last minute addition to the set, and she was hoping that their edits would work out well in her favor. She could almost feel Michiru's eyes on her. She wanted to do her mentor good. Show off just who she was. What she could do with her Pokemon.
Suddenly the mist was dissipated and the cloak thrown from the Young woman to reveal, feet clad in black Ballet slippers and lace, her ivory thighs bare. Her curvaceous form clad in a form fitting short corset dress, that was loose and supported by a black lace underskirt. Her upper chest and shoulder bare, the Midnight blue colors of the outfit, seeming to cause her body to give off a soft glow. The Bust of the dress lined in silver thread. A black belt with a crescent moon buckle showing off her hips. Her deep midnight blue hair was falling in waved down to her thighs, small gems had been placed in her hair seeming to make it glitter like the very night sky.
A Minior began to rise from the darkness. It had been a last minute addition to the set, and she was hoping that their edits would work out well in her favor. She could almost feel Michiru's eyes on her. She wanted to do her mentor good. Show off just who she was. What she could do with her Pokemon.
As the Minior reached an apex directly above the stage, the mist cleared with the use of Psychic from Gothorita who had been controlling where it went and how it acted. The mist seemed to burst, as an Albino Ninetales, and an Alolan Ninetales, appeared. The Albino Vulpix loosing a powerful flame, and the Alolan releasing a vibrant glimmering blue stream both striking the Minior with a small explosion, the explosion causing the a chain reaction that caused the still hanging swift attack to explode in a brilliant shower of sparks. Gothorita quickly cleared the dust, to reveal the Minior had shed its outer shell, and was now gleaming a brilliant red.
With that the music began to fade, and all of her Pokemon gathered around her, Minior descending to float next to her shoulder as they all bowed and rushed off stage, Alanna clearly to nervous to remain on stage much longer.

| Oh geeze. Seraph couldn’t believe he was still breathing, but each breath was certainly forced and painful enough to remind him. Was his binder too tight? No? Just sheer nerves threatening to squeeze his lungs out of him? Ha… okay then…Of course, Andrea being there backstage wasn’t helping anything. There was no way she should recognize him, all things considered. Even someone who’d met him recently might not, with the normally green part of his hair dyed gold this evening, his white and gold suit, and the vaguely Solgaleo-inspired half-mask that covered his face. But what if she spoke to him? AaahhhHH…?Thankfully, his turn eventually came-- and by ‘thankfully’, he meant he felt woefully underprepared and incredibly rigid but at least the dreading phase was coming to an end. He walked out on stage, and the spotlight hit him-- making him startle just slightly. Of course he expected it, but the reality of it hitting his eyes and seeing the crowd… He’d been an idol before, addressed fans before, but the context was so much different here. A deep breath. “G-...”His voice failed for a second, but he steeled it, and the next attempt rang out clear, if with the slightest hint of waver on two or three words if one listened carefully. ”Good evening, everyone! Are you enjoying your Star Festival~!” Some cheers followed, not overwhelming, but enough to satisfy him. ”My name is Seraph, and tonight I bring you a gift from the heavens~!” Omitting his last name wasn’t just for anonymity’s sake; it played right into his theme as well.Piano notes began playing over the speakers, and a stream of nine Solrock descended from behind the top of the stage in a line, led by one nearly twice the size of the others with the rest following from largest to smallest (even if their size differences were much more subtle). The line swirled around the stage, with Seraph’s extended arm guiding their direction, as if they were a great flag and he held the pole. The big one used Wonder Room as it floated by, lighting the floor of the stages with a subtly wavering layer of blue.Unlike some contestants, singing was not one of his stronger talents; and while he wasn’t awful by any means, his singing voice was pretty feminine, so he left the vocals to the track. Remember those walls I built? Well baby they’re tumbling down! The Solrock line zigzagged up into a wall between him and the audience before each spun/rolled away through the air, one left, one right, the next left, and so-on to split into two four-Solrock lines, while the big one floated up above his head.He jumped into a dance routine as the music continued, the Solrock lines moving in simple but eye-catching patterns on either side of him. At the line It’s like I’ve been awakened, several of the Solrock spouted seas of Cosmic Power stars. Every rule I had you breakin’. It’s the risk that I’m takin’. Psychic was used by several Solrock to move the stars in tandem with the trainers moves. At I ain’t never gonna shut you out! he made a sharp sweeping motion, and the stars burst and fired off in all directions around him as his dancing became more energetic, fitting the gradual shift in tone as the chorus began vocally mashing up with Walking on Sunshine. The Solrock began to move around more, the smaller eight acting in symmetrical pairs for the most part, though which they were paired with was traded off here and there. Two would use Rock Polish to glisten brightly, then two would cross over the stage to shower more Cosmic Power. Those not currently synced with another would meanwhile one at a time Flare Blitz across the open air like shooting stars. Seraph kept dancing, his looks at the audience and occasionally the judges seeming to almost invite them to come dance with him. As it got toward the end of the chorus and rang I can feel your halo, halo, halo, two small Solrock and the big one began using Fire Spin to create rings-- halos-- of fire in the air above Seraph each time ‘halo’ was said for that little stretch. And don’t it feel good! Wonder Room was renewed with another flash, and one of the small ones threw a Sunny Day up into the air high above. One thing was sure: his nerves had dissipated for the moment, and he did feel good!As the song broke into a verse of Sunshine, Seraph’s dancing picked up intensity again, now including running into forward and back flips. As it came back to I’m walking on sunshine!, he did a back hand spring, and the big Solrock swooped down low enough for Seraph to land with his feet on two of the Solrock’s spokes, grabbing hold of the upper middle one to balance. It carried him a bit higher, and he jumped from it to grab the spokes of another Solrock; it held in place in the air and spun around to fling him back down. As his feet touched, he crouched and sprang right back up off the stage to grab another Solrock, who spun him upwards this time. Like a Monferno, he grabbed another, then was flung up to land on the big one in the middle again. He couldn’t hold his balance for long, but by this time the song was coming to a climax, and as the lyrics chanted halo, halo, halo, the Solrock that weren’t preoccupied either fired a few Solar Beams or used Psychic to manipulate those, blending them together into a massive spinning ring of blinding light overhead. The last word began to ring out: Haaa- and Seraph flipped forward to stick a landing on the stage, and several Solrock fired Solar Beams to converge in the air just behind him-- LOOOOOOOOOO! Seraph struck a pose, raising an arm to the sky; the two Solrock furthest out and highest up used Explosion, and several of the remaining ones used Psychic pull the light of the beams into six massive celestial wings behind Seraph, such that as the final note sounded he glowed like his namesake, surrounded by seven heavenly bodies and two sets of fireworks. He panted as the music stopped, and the two exploded Solrock were carried gently down from the sky by the Psychics of their kin. Seraph took a bow to the sounds of applause, then fought to walk rather than skip off stage, his Pokemon following behind him and his face beaming nearly as bright as his finale. For the moment, he certainly did seem to be walking on sunshine, and man it felt good. |

There had never really been a point when Rhia understood what "nervous" was supposed to feel like. She had taken important tests in school, which she knew would determine a decent amount of her academic future. There was no sense in borrowing trouble from the future, so she studied and did as well as she could. She might have felt some worry while waiting for results, but assured herself that what was done, was done. During the examinations in themselves, she was much too focused on figuring out the answers without intentionally wasting time to worry. Rhiannon only knew that "nervous" was an emotion because of others' accounts of it, and even then she was only... mostly sure. Still, waiting in the wings, doing last minute touch-ups to her Pokémon and herself was somewhere between agitating, due at least partially to her impatience, and boredom. Which... Rhia supposed was technically a form of impatience? Her old uniform from her school's Color Guard didn't fit as well as it had last year-- or was that two years ago? Fall of the previous school year, at any rate... The sleeveless side was too tight around her shoulder, and the long sleeve was a good three inches shorter than she remembered it being. At least the unitard under her-- tunic? was that the right word?-- had initially been too a few inches longer than necessary. The baggy leggings of the outfit were just the right length to not get dirty, or wet from muddy ground, or... well, this wasn't marching band anymore, so that didn't matter as much, she supposed. It was hard to stop fidgeting, though. Check the mirror--was her makeup still good? Yes, it was fine, it hadn't smudged since she checked it ten seconds ago. Were María and Hildy and Seraphim and Serena ready? They looked it-- Seraphim the Cherubi, star of tonight's number (pun absolutely intended), still had her pet-safe black chalk and yellow sparkly cotton-fluff. María the Oricorio had her golden glitter still in place-- LUSCIOUS's planet- and Pokémon-friendly products were really a blessing... Serena the Ducklett and Hildegard the Spritzee were on effects duty today, so they didn't have any additional decoration. Perhaps the cotton fluff around Seraphim was a bit much? It was too late for any large changes. Rhia had watched about half of the first contestant's performance, before away into the shadows backstage. All right, well, Rhiannon knew she wouldn't win her first contest ever. It wasn't.... Correct. That's not how stories go, not unless she was some kind of prodigy-- but if that were the case, even from her less than regal background, someone would have noticed sooner. Hers wasn't a story of success on the first try, and that was fine. That didn't stop her from being bitter about how dazzling the other performers were. So many Clefairy-line Pokémon, and Elgyem and a Shiny Helix-damned Minior. At least, with all these night sky starry themes, her own show would be pretty unique. Rhia was surprised that the opportunity to create a miniature aurora wasn't taken... it was about as on-theme as her own show would be, but maybe others didn't agree. Of course, she'd been taking a minor risk re-interpreting the space theme to not be about a certain aesthetic. And then of course, Rhiannon was both vindicated and outshone in her choice for a solar focus as a young man performed Walkin' on Sunshine. With nine Solrock. At least it's just the Pokémon, she had thought, an very quickly regretted that thought when the Solrock used various moves that dazzled, including the self-same Sunny Day that Rhiannon was about to rely on, singularly. Here was just one more layer of glamour. Plus, all of these folks seemed inhumanly collected. When Rhia had paid attention to the other school's show in marching band and competitions, there was at least a decent amount of fumbling to be had. Maybe not from the best schools who would go on to win the show, but some. Clearly, Rhia's bar had been set too low by this. But now the young man bounced his way backstage, and gave Rhia a glowing grin-- or maybe he was just grinning at everything after such a song. He certainly seemed to be as happy as his performance was, not losing much energy once he was out of sight of the crowd. But Rhia didn't have time to linger, so she turned and walked out on the stage. It would have been really nice if the grin that Rhia wore wasn't her Customer Service smile of spite. A quick bow to the audience in acknowledgement, and to put Seraphim down center-stage, towards the front. Rhia nearly knocked Seraphim upside the head with her flags-- though it's not like there was anywhere else to knock a Cherubi, really. There were other places to knock herself than the head, but unless it was (...another) concussion, then dealing with that could wait until later. Rhia glanced around at the stage, made sure Hildy and Serena were near the back as they should be, and María opposite herself. All was good, so she signaled to the dj in the wings. A drum beat counted off, then a very upbeat electric guitar riff started. Seraphim wasted no time in setting off her Sunny Day, gathering a very miniature approximation of it some ten or fifteen feet above the stage. Rhia only moved when the voices began: "The sun is a mass of incandescent gas," and Rhia twirled her two flags around. Across the stage, María did her Revelation Dance, sparkling and flaming and choreographed similarly to Rhia's own footwork. María, however, did not have flags or even the fan-like feathers another Oricorio might have had. Instead, most of the movement was focused on María's fluttering tail, catching the light with its golden glitter. The few wrist-twirls that Rhiannon could do with two small flags didn't amount to much, and the silks were kind of small and plain-- bright orange with a bluish-black circle in the center of the field. Rhia only had a moment to do her one twirl and a small toss-- only with the flag in her right hand, and only a foot or so in the air, but it spent those five seconds marvelously. "Hydrogen is built into helium," the speakers continued, and Rhiannon brought the ends of her two flags together-- they stuck. Not in the way they were supposed to, the one was supposed to slide into the bottom of the other, but it went a little diagonal--but then, there, it went in, and the magnets were close enough to grab hold. There was supposed to be a fancier move there, but she'd already frozen and wasted time. A simple drop-spin with the now doubled flag was... hopefully enough for the not-flag-spinning audience. María didn't seem to be caught, at least, and did her own dance regardless. That was good. And that was what Rhia needed to do now-- even though things were going wrong and she couldn't redo something, the show must go on, but the pressure that put on was astounding. Was this what nervous felt like? Rhia could feel her hands wanting to shake any time she rested for even half a moment. It's one thing to not win, but with Sunny Day as the only field effect running for the first part of the show, and Revelation Dance could only occupy judges for so long. Finally, though, the verse changed. " The sun is hot..." less sung than simply said; Hildy and Serena took their cues, and let loose a Misty Terrain and a Feather Dance, respectively; as was her wont, María followed suit, especially since Rhia had paused her own dancing. Rhia bent to set down her glag and pick up a few of the now generous blanket of feathers on the stage, and held one out. "Aluminum," the recording said, and Serena sent an air slash in Rhia's direction-- slicing the feather apart. "Copper," it continued, and Rhia and Serena repeated the trick. "Iron, and many others!" and this time, instead of a single feather, Rhia tossed her handful in the air. Serena didn't nearly slice all of them, but the wind from the slices that connected still blew the feathers quite apart. As quickly as she could, then, Rhia retrieved her flag and pulled the ends apart, ending once again with two smaller flags. The motion of pulling them apart was supposed to flow smoothly into a circular movement, one arm going clockwise and the other counter-clockwise as the flags went out, up, around, down in front of her face, and out again. The flags stuck more than she expected, so it was a bit jerky, but she still managed to end the maneuver on "large;" as the recording spoke of the sun's size, Hildy kicked up many of the feathers with a Fairy Wind, and swirled them up to and around Cherubi's Sunny Day, which was fading fast... which was actually decent timing. At about this time the song was describing how far away the sun is, and Seraphim fired off her Solar Beam into the night sky, beyond her miniature daylight, even if it currently seemed more like the last rays of afternoon. And then, "But even when it's out of sight, the sun shines night and day!" And... perhaps a moment later than idea, but Seraphim did renew her Sunny Day. As the song proper kicked off again, Rhia and María started dancing again, with their individual focus on flags and tail, respectively, but still providing a general mirror to the other's motions. There was another lapse into speaking rather than singing, but this time Rhia and her Oricorio kept danging to the general beat of the speech, because Rhia knew that once that was over-- "The sun is a mass of incandescent gas, a gigantic nuclear fur-nace!" Wrist twirl one way, then another, it was starting to get legitimately painful... "Where hydrogen is built into helium," and this time the pieces went together more neatly, thank Helix. She just had time to do a sweep to the one side and the other... "At a temperature of millions of--" grab the center of the pole and spiral it upwards as the song came very abruptly to a close. The flag went up in the air at the beginning of the word, "degrees!" and she caught it as the final note played. Rhia gave a short bow, collected her things and her Pokémon, and hurriedly left the stage. I'm allowed to fail, but I made a laughingstock of myself. Is this really how I start my story?

Post by Elayne Laurent on Apr 19, 2017 15:23:45 GMT -8
The day had finally come for the contest, and Elayne couldn't remember a time when she'd been so excited and nervous at the same time. Felis' festival seemed like it had been years ago now, but perhaps that was a theme with festivals. There had to be one show stopper after all and what better way to celebrate the Star Festival than with a Contest. Elayne had spent weeks practicing with her Pokemon just to get their moves right. Haiiro and Felis had been a huge help in figuring out her routine and really just encouraging her to keep going when it seemed like too much to handle. Thankfully school had been out for a couple weeks now due to spring break and now the Star Festival which gave her more time to practice. The other contestants seemed really talented though which did make her a little anxious but...they practiced a lot for this. It would be just fine, besides, this was supposed to be fun.
Taking a deep breath, Elayne did her best to ignore the butterflies in her stomach as the last contestant went off the stage. With all the training she'd been doing, she hadn't had the time to evolve some of her young Pokemon that could have helped with appeal but...there was enough time prior to the performance to solve that perhaps. Besides, she was confident in what she had already practiced and it was a great opportunity to let some of her Eeveelutions show off. Some of the other performers had already gone which did nothing to help her nerves about being the next one up. Lucien had already gone but Seraph's performance had been breathtaking...no, she couldn't let the other appeals shake her confidence.
When it was finally her turn, Elayne took a deep breath and released the three other Pokemon chosen for the appeals round. Eclipse grinned toothily and vanished through her illusions. The Zoroark wouldn't appear until much later in the performance, but her illusions were crucial to make sure everything flowed smoothly. Elly jumped onto Elayne's shoulders and mewed, rubbing her face against Elayne's, eliciting a laugh. The Espeon always had an uncanny knack of knowing what to do to calm her down. Reaching up to scratch behind Elly's ears, Elayne smiled and walked onto the stage. Instantly, her midnight blue dress began to sparkle in the lights, swirling as if it was made up of the night sky. Shooting stars seemed to dart across the dress, but whether that had truly happened or if it was just a figment of the imagination was debatable. As one, Elly jumped off Elayne's shoulders and used a Swift that circled Elayne just as she twirled, keeping her arms crossed over her chest as her skirt billowed out and even seemed to lengthen, covering the stage in a dark, glistening carpet of stars. "Welcome to the Star Festival, my name is Elayne and it would be my pleasure if you would all join me as we travel to the stars tonight,"Elayne said with a bright smile, opening her arms as if inviting the entire audience with her.
With that, a piano would suddenly appear behind her in a swirl of of stars from an expertly timed Swift, though the spinning effect had as much to do with the Psychic as the Zoroark's illusions that had hidden it from view only moments before. Elayne would spin once again, sitting on the piano as Elly stepped into the shadows, hidden from view for the time being. Lights dimmed as the piano lit up as Elayne started to play. Suddenly, a dark pink and crimson haze from a Night Daze appeared, blanketing the stage as it swirled with the lighter blue mist from Misty Terrain. The effect gave off an otherworldly appearance as stars appeared from somewhere in the mist from yet another Swift that swirled around the stage. In another instant, a Shadow Ball joined the Swift, attracting the stars to float around it before the moves collided and showered the stage in golden sparkles.
The moment the moves collided, an Umbreon and Sylveon 'appeared' from the shadows as if the colliding stars had summoned them and danced to the music as the stage itself seemed to become a starry sky, complete with swirling galaxies, comets, and shooting stars. Red eyes appeared from the darkness as what appeared to be a large, dark 'Minior' materialized and threatened the two dancing Pokemon. The Umbreon and Sylveon used that moment to combine a Dazzling Gleam with Moonlight, casting a beautiful if eerie glow on the stage. A bright moon appeared just above the stage while the Dazzling Gleam radiated off of it, casting rainbow lights off of it like some unearthly disco ball. The 'Minior' seemed to explode, showing its core as it joined the dance through space. Trixie, the Umbreon jumped on top of the 'Minior' while Allie, the Sylveon, was lifted up with a Psychic as Elly made her appearance on stage. The three danced through the sky, twirling around each other as the stars rushed past them faster and faster. A large asteroid was illuminated next and before long, the trio landed on the surface along with Elly who appeared to be riding on a shooting star before jumping off to join them. The instant before the Espeon landed, Future Sight was used, creating a few brilliant, bright orbs that floated around Elly for a few moments before disappearing into the night sky.
The melody rose to a climax as the asteroid appeared to freeze in the air, shimmering in the night sky as Elly and Trixie used Dark Pulse and Psybeam to create a spiral that swirled around the asteroid as it began its descent. Elly used another Swift that joined the swirling lights while Allie and Trixie used the starts to land safely back on the ground. Ellie jumped on top of the 'Minior' and followed the other two, just as the asteroid crashed behind them, showering everyone with a beautiful array of rainbow and golden lights as the prior moves collided with each other. The 'Minior', Umbreon, and Espeon circled the Sylveon as they looked up to see the Future Sight begin to appear. The Sylveon looked up and used Moonblast to negate the Future Sight, showering everyone in pink and white 'stars' as the music stopped abruptly in perfect timing with the final explosion.
With the song finished, the illusions fell away, revealing the stage once again along with a Zoroark whose fur seemed to sparkle like the stars in the night sky along with the other three Eeveelutions. Elayne stood and twirled to where her Pokemon now stood, curtsying at the same time as her Pokemon to the sound of applause. For all she was, Elayne simply couldn't contain her excitement at seeing all their hard work had paid off in the end and practically skipped off the stage. Only after they left the stage did Elayne allow herself to laugh and embrace her Pokemon. No matter what happened next, Elayne was proud of the performance she had just given. Words: 1,205

“We'll begin, with a spin, ” traveling in a world of my creation What we'll see will defy explanation”
Apparently, he'd managed to scare everyone out of the dressing rooms as he snapped at those near him, or at least the dressing room he'd taken over as his. Not that he was overly concerned about that. Indeed it suited him rather nicely. It gave him plenty of space to prepare himself and his Pokemon. The last steps after he'd checked over his team one last time was to slip his mask on checking in the mirror he hadn't smudged any of the blacking around his eyes to keep them more in shadow. Then he pulled his gloves on, swinging on both cloaks and approaching backstage to deliver his final instructions to the music and light technicians, positioning himself to watch the end of the last performance. A rose was in the top pocket of his frock coat over the red handkerchief. Still, he nodded to the last contestant that left the stage after all their own appeals round performance had been rather good. He waited till the lights were fully down before he silently walked on during the first strident notes of the piece he'd chosen, drawing the over-cloak about him rather like a magician. His head was lowered as the lights finally raised onto his form and as the drums sounded he moved forward into a flourished bow before standing straight sending the sparkly cloak loose with another flourish, trusting it to land behind him. "Let me take you back in time to before there was a universe," he spoke clearly in the silence after the drums. The eagle-eyed among the audience would see the discarded cloak seem to move almost rustling as if taken with its own life. shifting off the stage taken by Silvarus as the lighter music started. As this happened Freur darted on as if startled by something even as Oberon himself turned drawing a wand out turning his back to the audience even as the stage was covered in soft white snow by the Alolan Vulpix, whose fur had been painted primarily black, leaving swirls of white fur to represent galaxies. Silvarus also came back on the two playing the part of being 'entranced' by the wand, Oberon using that to direct the two into a dance that started to form a snowball out of the fallen snow from the powder snow used earlier by Freur. The use of UV lighting for all but the spotlight on Oberon as he 'directed' the two into the snowball growing ever larger meant that of Freur you could only truly see the areas of white fur glowing under the lighting and Silvarus would appear almost like a glistening star. Carefully Lavaria moved on stage, bringing the cloak with him, his own paces more lumbering in the 'directed' dance bowing as he presented it to Oberon, just as the music brought the trumpets back in. The pause in the wand movements directing the Pokemon (perfectly rehearsed of course) would cause an apparent lifting of the spell, as Lavaria staggered back and the two smaller Pokemon scattered. With a well timed incinerate and a flash of the lights, the turtonator staggered back destroying the snowball that was representing the early planet as the lights went down, casting the stage into darkness. During the darkness however hiding under the cloak that still lay under the floor was the new addition. A Minior. Oberon had quietly laid himself down as if sprawled back by the explosion, the cloak itself carefully placed to be among the hollow of snow Lavaria had left. This was the scene the lights came back up on slowly, and at the second round of the strident music, the cloak slowly started to rise with the Minior. Almost as if wary, Freur casting a quick blizzard from his place to one side, just as Lavaria used an incinerate, the Pokemon of his team slowly moved their way back into view. By the climax Oberon himself was back on his feet and had retrieved the cloak, the Minior moving too slowly expose the core as Silvanus and Freur danced about, foresight and blizzard and powder snow swirling up, Lavaria using the occasional incinerate again to provide a contrast of fire and ice. Oberon could feel himself sweating as the piece drew up to its second climactic moment the Minior starting to spin in the air before falling to the ground using a well-timed rollout driving a furrow through the snow on the floor and moving into an Ancient Power and falling into the finale of a self-destruct. The lights dipped again following this casting the stage once more to darkness giving Oberon time to give the Minior something to revive it before he stood, his team gathered around him, the cloak back in place by the time all lights had come back on. He gave a flourished bow, the others of his team following his lead, finishing by drawing the rose out revealing the ribbon that looked like it had been made from the fabric of space and throwing it into the audience with a flick of his wrist. Casually he left the stage, after a second bow, leading the team with him sliding down the wall near his dressing room his whole body trembling with a mix of adrenaline and post-performance fear. He'd forgotten just how alive doing this type of contest could make you feel and it had left him breathless and like every nerve was tingling. Words: 1030 |

Sera wasn’t sure there was a coherent thought left in her mind, everything jumbled by the flurry of nerves and excitement both within and around her. If the stakes and her empathic absorption of all the other nervous contestants in the room wasn’t enough, the fact that she recognized so many people backstage certainly didn’t help either. Andrea Benoit was a face known well enough to someone who had followed the Coordinator scene as long as Sera had. She couldn’t be certain without talking to her, but that girl over there kind of looked like Alanna? She hated competing against Rhia, but at least took some comfort knowing this was her dream as much as it was Sera’s. On the other hand, competing against Lucien was something Sera wished she could see as fun and friendly competition, but as it was she found it hard not to hold just a small amount of spite toward the Breeder competing. No matter, though; she’d do her best to turn that into fuel. The one that really got her nervous was Pale Heart, though. Sera wasn’t her biggest fan, but she did enjoy several of her songs and definitely recognized the internet idol. From the cheers, it seemed the crowd did, too... Other faces were less familiar, but she could feel determination oozing, and each appeal she watched showed how much each competitor wanted this. Then on top of all that, most of the appeals were… a lot longer than hers, weren’t they? Her chosen song was only about two minutes, and while one or two others seemed to go a similar route, she really hoped she wouldn’t come off as lacking for it. ...She should stop analyzing, though. Deep breaths… Concentrate on the routine. When the contestant before her cleared the stage and Sera was prompted, the scenery, for the most part, went black. It may not be as timely as possible with the contestants who’d already gone, but it was still the midnight hour, and Sera was pretty excited about her choice of song. A gentle melody and drum beats began playing softly in the background, and Solrock, its center brilliant vermillion and arms near-white, lit up high above center stage, lit not by a spotlight, but a fire that encased it, an incomplete Flare Blitz with no tackling component. For all intents and purposes, it was truly a burning sun. Below, a blindingly white Glaceon with soft pink markings could be seen taking the stage, his coat bright enough to stand out from just the ambient light of the fire above and the small dimmed lights along the front edge of the stage. He looked out at the audience, and gave a momentary bow. Sera’s voice came over the speakers, but for the moment that was all the audience would get of her. The Solrock slowly descended, and its fire began to fade as it did. “As the sunlight leaves and darkness brings along a starry sky.” With a flick of the Glaceon’s tail, a volley of Swift stars were thrown into the air, flying up before floating back down slowly, their light making up for the fading Solrock by illuminating the stage softly. “You will dive into your dreams. Laying down you’ll close your eyes.”The Glaceon did indeed curl up, giving the audience a cute sleepy yawn, but as he lay down his head, a new source of light bounced up-- ”But there are so many wonders--” in the form of a crimson Umbreon’s dim cyan rings. She stopped and looked up as a Minior, its outer shell bright red with a faint gold sheen, whooshed overhead. ”Missing out, that can’t be right!” The Minior’s Cosmic Power trailed small glittering stars behind the path of its flight, and the Umbreon nudged the Glaceon. “Jump off bed, c’mon and join us!” The Glaceon’s eyes shot brightly open again, using Baby-Doll Eyes to emphasize his fascination with the trail of stars above. As he jumped to his feet to join Umbreon, more spotlights flashed on, pointed at the edges of the stage, moving in unison toward a point of convergence at back center stage. A Midnight Lycanroc bounded out from there to begin running in a pack with the Eeveelutions and Sera sang the line, ”Party on until sunrise!” At the word ‘sunrise’, the lights had lit the full stage, with the focal point on Sera herself. Her nerves were firing full-throttle (did she sound as good as she thought? What if someone recognized her from the Gala?) but all the same, her smile and energy were both bright as she danced out onto the stage-- “Ey oh! Ey oh ah! I won’t let you sleep, come to party all night!”-- body confidently thrown into every movement, every hip thrust prominent, every step fluid. Her silky red dress, backless with a long skirt split up both sides, twirled with her movements. The opera-length white gloves, knee high white boots, and fur-lined collar all added up to make her resemble her Lycanroc-- both of them Midnight in tandem with the contest time and song title. The three canines chased the Minior around stage, remaining a cute and active part of the show while allowing focus to stay on Sera’s dancing for the moment. ”Ey oh! Ey oh ah! Let’s go dance together,--” as Sera reached the front of the stage, panel of light, layered Reflect and Light Screen, appeared about a foot in front of and higher than the floor of the stage-- “the moon’s shining bright!” She leapt onto the hard light surface with a bright ”Ha!”Solrock rejoined Sera on one side, and the lights dimmed just enough to let the Cosmic Power stars it spread out stand out. With a mischievous look at the Solrock, she sang, “We are the night shift--” Minior took her other side with its own Cosmic Power, and she gave it a similar look-- ”we are silent. Looking out as you all shun.” Solrock’s Psychic began lifting her platform higher and higher as she sang. The canines stared up at the girl, the Lycanroc with the Eeveelutions on either side, somewhat mirroring the girl and the celestial bodies above. Sera gave the audience a bright grin and a playful shrug now. “But these rules can be so boring--” she rolled her eyes dramatically, head rolling with the gesture, smile maintained; and another light panel appeared nearby-- ”So let’s break them and have fun!” She jumped to the new panel, the one she was on fading to be replaced by another in front of her. She continued to dance as fluidly before, but now each step took her dancing literally through the air, the panels disappearing the moment her feet left them and appearing just in time to catch her, courtesy of the Pokemon who had begun slowly revolving around her. ”Giggles ring as it’s exciting--” Her eyes had been scanning the crowd at every opportunity, both for reactions and to see who she could recognize among the closer rows. At some point, she’d noticed a teen in a gray hoodie and shades sitting on top of a food cart, and while to the crowd at large she merely looked that general direction as her dancing paused a moment, she hoped he would realize she was looking directly at him. ”--doing things you’re not allowed~!” She gave the audience (him) a wink and blew them (him) a quick kiss. ”Would you dare to break out havoc? Beat the drums and sing out loud!” An excited fist pump incorporated into her movements on the word ‘loud’. Her mid-air dancing continued, and below, the canines again became more active. ”Ey oh, ey oh ah! I won’t let you sleep, come to party all night!” Umbreon’s Dark Pulse blacked a wide area, while Lycanroc’s Stone Edge raised false ‘mountains’ from the floor, looking very similar to the hard light projections on which Sera danced, color similar to Umbreon’s rings. Glaceon’s Swift created big bright stars to swirl up the mountain as Lycanroc climbed it, and the snowflakes of the following Icy Wind glistened in the light like a blanket of smaller stars against the dark backdrop. ”Ey oh, ey oh ah! Let’s go dance together under the moonliiiiight~!” Lycanroc let out a bold Howl that harmonized with her word “light”. ”Tend the burdens your heart carries.” Umbreon and Glaceon took either side of front stage and launched waves of Attract hearts out at the audience. ”Come along and join the fun!” But turned back toward the mountain and made ‘come along’ gestures over their shoulders before bounding back toward it. Up top, Sera had stopped to look at Minior sweetly. The Minior used Shell Smash as she sang, ”Listen up, forget your worries!” And as the Core was revealed in a burst of light, it became clear it wasn’t only its shell that was unusual, its body bright vermillion as opposed to the softer red of a normal ‘red’ Minior, its eyes and spokes tinged faintly yellow, such that its color matched the Solrock’s nearly perfectly. ”Dance with me, the night is young!”Solrock floated down to join the others, it and Lycanroc using Stone Edge repeatedly to build the mountain scene higher as the Eeveelutions climbed the lower levels in slow, confident leaps. Minior, meanwhile, was left doing platforms alone. Sera jumped up from the one on which she stood, and it disappeared to reappear under her feet a second later. For a fraction of a second this way, there was no platform. ”This is awesome!” Another bounce, and another quick platform switch that let her land a little higher. ”This is crazy!” Another jump every few words took her higher and higher. ”There is magic in the air!” Volleys of Swift, Cosmic Power, Dark Pulse, and Icy Wind were thrown up from the canines and Solrock, creating another sea of black lit by glistening stars and “stars” on the stage below. Psychic was then used by Solrock and Umbreon to hold the scene in place a few seconds. ”Give into the Midnight Frenzy!” The Lycanroc used Double Team, and it and its doppelgangers each began to chase one of the other ground Pokemon. The pieces of the mountain began to break apart in bursts of light as chaos broke out below, and above, Sera made one last jump to the highest platform she’d reached so far. She stood still and face the audience for the next line, looking down from well above the top of the curtain. ”Party on without a caaaare!” And, as the word ‘care’ left her mouth, and with a smile on her face, she let herself fall backwards, plummeting toward the stage. A Whirlwind quickly whipped up to not only slow her fall and let her roll back into an upright position, but carried the sea of black and stars from the stage up into the whirlwind to spin around her. “EY oh, ey oh ah!” Up on the top beam of the stage, a jet black Pidgeot had been sitting largely undetected since the beginning, and after taking her Whirlwind cue, she swooped in to catch Sera on her back. As the Whirlwind ceased, the aesthetics it carried were flung in all directions over the audience before slowly fading. ”I won’t let you sleep, come to party all night!” Pidgeot carried her over the audience now, flying just a few feet above the crowd to let the feel the whoosh-- ”Ey oh, ey oh ah!” --while the Eeveelutions and both celestial bodies finished clearing the remains of the Stone Edges, each accompanied by a Lycanroc, though it would have taken a studious eye to have kept track of which the real one was by now. ”Let’s go dance together under the moonliiight~” As the Pidgeot moved back over the stage, Sera slipped off her back and fell the three yards or so to her feet-- stumbling ever so slightly on the landing, but ultimately managing it. She’d just flash the audience and judges a cheeky grin, as if she meant to do that~ Her Pokemon converged around her. In the original version of the song she covered, the next line would be another person briefly. Rather than mimic this, Sera changed the lyrics slightly to compensate and fit the festival more. Solrock and Minior created two more hard light platforms, thinner than before, lined up like the bottom of a staircase, and as Sera rushed across the stage toward it, her hands brushed against each Pokemon she passed; every time it was a false Lycanroc, the illusion would dissipate. Words spoken more than sung: ”Say we’re too young to be up late?” She rolled her eyes affectionately. ”Loosen up and celebrate!” She’d reached the bottom of the ‘stairs’ now, and as she ran up them, the celestial body Pokemon kept swapping platforms out to give her a spiral staircase to ascend, while Glaceon fired another ray of Swift stars that Umbreon used Psychic to pull up along either side of Sera and trail like railing of the staircase. Above, Pidgeot used Mirror Move to emulate the Swift, letting those stars hang in the air, and coating her wings with Steel Wing to reflect their sparkling light against her own inky blackness. “Nighttime fun’s such a delight! Right~! Out here beneath the comet’s light!” Sera stepped from the ‘top step’ to fall back onto her again-swooping Pidgeot, whose flight wavered a brief moment as Sera’s weight hit a little off-center, but they adjusted. “Ey oh, ey oh ah! I won’t let you sleep, come to party all night! Ey oh, ey oh ah! Let’s go dance together, the moon’s shining bright.” With Sera on the Pidgeot, Solrock and Minior made new platforms for Glaceon and Umbreon, each taking one around the sides of the stage, while Lycanroc stayed on the ground to head for the middle. The final scene ended with Sera on a ‘hovering’ (flapping) Pidgeot above center stage, her matching Lycanroc below her; on her left a little below her level was Glaceon, held by a platform made by Minior a little higher than Sera; on her right, Umbreon paralleled Glaceon and Solrock Minior. “Ey oh, ey oh ah! I won’t let you sleep, come to party all night! Ey oh, ey oh ah!” Umbreon used Moonlight to light the area behind Sera with as large a false full moon as she could muster. Below, Lycanroc gave another melodic Howl throughout the final line, cutting off in unison with Sera. ”Let’s go dance together,” Pidgeot began to glow, ”the moon’s shining BRIGHT!” And hopefully no one would notice Umbreon’s Psychic taking over to keep Glaceon in place as Minior had to release the platform beneath it to blind the crowd with a Dazzling Gleam over the Moonlight, in unison with the word ‘bright’, and with Pidgeot using Sky Attack to charge up through the moon. A fraction of a second after the word ended, the attacks converged and brightly burst in an explosion of light. A process less than pleasant for the girl and the bird in the middle of it, but more than worth it for the effect. The crowd applauded when the music ended, but Sera realized they cheered for everyone, didn’t they? Was it loud enough? Was it fanatic enough? She couldn’t tell; there were far too many people for her empathy to read anything beyond what her eyes and ears knew already. But she beamed at them regardless, her heart pounding. ”Thanks so much, everybody! My name is Serafeyna, and I dearly hope you’ll come tomorrow to see more from me and my friends~! But until then, I wanna see you all out and about enjoying the festival. Let’s party all night~!!” That got some additional cheers, and she hoped the grin that followed wasn’t too clearly sheepish as she gave the judges a final brief wave, then had Pidgeot carry her off stage by way of an aerial maneuver up over top, while her Eeveelutions fell back to the ground and all five remaining Pokemon scurried off to either side. | [attr="class","trying"]Her plan this time around was unique, at least for what she normally did. She loved things like this, even though she was still learning. Honoka’d been backstage most of the time so far, being one of the final performers for the appeals round. She’d changed early on, her outfit this time around suiting the theme perfectly. She’d had this idea sitting around in a sketchbook for ages, and it just seemed like a perfect fit for this. She had other ideas, too, but she was saving those for later. Thank Arceus for her tailor. The other performers, many whom she recognized from previous events and meetings, all did pretty great in her books. She knew her idea was different. It was different that everyone else, and it was different than her norm for these too. Maybe that difference could help her win this, and maybe not. She’d never know until she tried, right? The girl who went before her, a girl named Serafeyna, walked off the stage past her. It was her turn now. The stage went dark for a few moments, and when the lights turned back on, there was a massive grand piano sitting center stage, so dark blue it was almost black. The piano seemed to have little spots that glowed, little lights emitting soft spots of yellowish lights, like little stars. The piano had been designed to look like the night sky itself. They couldn’t make it look like the stars were moving across it with such short notice, but Honoka had a Pokemon for that. Said Pokemon was already laying comfortably under the piano. A single spotlight lit up the piano, and she knew that was her queue. Honoka walked gracefully onto the stage, the sheer skirts and flowing cuffs of her costume flowing behind her, the fabric seeming to glow from the light of the spotlight. The gold star and decorations on the belt glittered brightly, as if a light of their own shone out from them. Reaching the piano, she sat, and the spotlight on her dimmed until she was just a background piece. Her Pokemon would be telling this story. Coming up from behind the piano, where Honoka had had them hide while it was being set up, floated a Minior. Her hands began playing a melody on the piano. The Minior floated up to the front of the stage, its core glowing purple. The stage seemed to turn into the night sky itself, thanks to the illusions her Zoroark was creating. The audience could still see Honoka through the illusion, but she wasn’t front and center like the Minior was. The Minior floated around the front stage as if looking for something. The illusion of the night sky shifted, and stars began shooting past the Minior. Some just looked like regular stars, others were differently colored Minior that came to greet Honoka’s in passing, before seeming to say goodbye as they continued on, falling down over the stage and into the floor, vanishing in a burst of light and sparks. Her Minior attempted to follow, but found itself stuck at the edge of the stage. It floated back and forth over the front of the stage, distressed, looking for its “friends” and trying to stop them or go with them, but to no avail. Her Minior couldn’t follow its friends. Other Pokemon appeared as well, those that were deemed “space” pokemon. They fell, coming to greet her Minior then leaving. More of Honoka’s Pokemon came out from behind the piano, seeming to float up and over one by one to the Minior. One by one, an Igglybuff and a Munna floated up and over the piano to join her Minior on front stage. Her Gothita was floating the igglybuff up over the Piano and out onto the front stage with her Minior while her Munna floated itself up and over. The trio of floating Pokemon greeted one another and spun slowly in a tilted circle, dancing together in the night sky. Honoka’s fingers continued to dance over the ivory keys as the trio of Pokemon floated up. The night sky illusion changed again, and the three Pokemon bobbed up and down gently in the air, mimicking moving through the stars. Stars rushed by the Pokemon for a few moments, and they were quickly joined by other illusory, slightly see through Pokemon. Three more differently colored Minior, a Cleffa, a pair of Clefairy and a Clefable, a pair of Munna, an Umbreon and an Espeon all joined Honoka’s Pokemon. A pair of Solrock and a pair of Lunatone shot by the group, appearing to move faster as they fell down in a wide arc toward something she audience couldn’t see yet. They continued to travel through the stars as the piano played, depicting their travel. The stars curved and arched, making it seem like they were travelling downward. The more downward they went, a white light began to envelop the Pokemon. When they were almost going straight downward, they disappeared into silhouettes of white. The stage lights flashed brightly and dimmed to black for a few seconds. When the stage lights came back on, a gentle spotlight hit Honoka, who was now standing front stage with her Pokemon and the illusory Pokemon surrounding her. She smiled at the audience and began to speak, arms extending to her sides in an invitation for an embrace. She seemed to glow, in part due to her costume and how the light was hitting it, and in part from the illusions her Zoroark was still creating. The night sky was still behind them, hiding the piano. The only light was the spotlight, and the illusory light coming from the stars. They all almost appeared to be floating in the darkness among the stars, as if they themselves were stars. “We see all kinds of Pokemon every day in our lives, whatever it is we do. We take them for granted, sometimes, or don’t think of where they might have come from. Many Pokemon are very mysterious, some having come from the very stars themselves to be with us, and we often take them for granted. But look at this festival, celebrating these very Pokemon. How incredible are they, how selfless, to have left all they knew, things we can only begin to imagine. To come down here and live in harmony with us. How beautiful it is.” She wrapped her arms around herself in a self embrace, and the spotlight faded out, leaving her and her Pokemon illuminated from behind by the stars. Her head tilted down and to the side, her hair spilling over her shoulder. The stars then began to fade, too, until the stage was left in complete darkness. The audience erupted as the low stage lights came back on, though the stage was once again empty. Not even the grand piano remained, leaving some to wonder if that had been an illusion too. |

| How is it that I've fallen in love with you? How can it hurt this much? Never before have I ever wanted someone this much. If I say I miss you about a thousand times, will it reach you? If I try crying and fussing, will you know my feelings? |
● waiting, contemplating... @tag / Hope this don't bomb and suck. / 888 Andrea wasn’t expecting everyone to go ahead of her, but by the time she’d decided on what she wanted to do for her Appeals round, she was the only one left backstage! Seeing her cousin Lucy perform ahead of her was a bit surprising—she knew that he was a Breeder, but how’d he end up in the Coordinating scene? Well, this is my last performance… might as well go out with a literal bang… she thought to herself as the stage hand approached her for one last rundown. “Yeah, play the song that’s in here. I’ll be doing a voice-over in the beginning, and after I say the words, ‘what if we’re not alone?’ is when you hit the cue. Kill the lights, light up the backdrop and then let the music and my Giorgio do the rest…” she said, handing the data stick to the stage hand, before she’d adjusted her costume. After the previous contestant had cleared out the stage, she knew that she was the last one who had to perform, and once the clapping had cued… She then took the lapel mic and slipped it on, before hiking up the hood of her costume, and then summoning her Elgyem, Giorgio as well as her Cleffa, Hoshi. “Alright, you two. This is our absolute last chance to wow the crowd. Because… yeah. Let’s just do it… oh, right,” she added, quickly flicking out a third Pokéball and watching as her Abra appeared in a flash of red light. “Okay, I need you to stay hidden behind me, you’ll be levitating Hoshi while I do the voice-over…”
Some minutes later, the entire stage had been set up to Andrea’s specifications, but the only thing present was the starry ‘empty’ background. While she’d donned the costume that hid her amongst the seemingly infinite background of space; there was an Abra that was floating behind her, who’d already put its skills of levitating to use. “Welcome,” the ‘disembodied’ voice of Andrea rang out across the stage. Where was the girl, where were her companions? “Everyone has always thought of this notion… are we the only beings living in this planet, in this wide canvas known as the Universe?” she began, and with a slight cue, the Abra began to levitate the little Cleffa, who then suddenly rose from the right-hand side of the stage and began to “float” along the emptiness of “outer space”, followed by the spotlight. “That we’re the only people out here? But, what if… what if I told you all… that… what if we’re not alone?”Right then and there, the spotlight following the Cleffa seemingly went out, before the backdrop suddenly flared to life, showing the vast expanse of outer space… and then… what was that music that was suddenly wafting out from the stage? From the left-hand side of the stage, out came Giorgio, the Elgyem, floating towards where the little Cleffa was being held aloft by the Abra with its psychic powers, being very careful to remain hidden. “Well, you know what they say… there are more intelligent life forms out there… this alien here is one! How do you think our little ‘space traveler’ will react when they meet?” she continued, not revealing her exact location until the two had seemingly met in the middle of the stage, the look on the Cleffa’s face being one of starry-eyed wonder at the “alien” right in front of it. The Elgyem then raised its right arm, before pointing curiously at the Cleffa, who then floated backwards, seemingly caught by surprise at the unknown presence that was trying to reach out to her, to contact her. As if on cue, a certain part of the stage swirled into life, revealing Andrea, who’d decided to shed the “cloak” she was hiding under (but being very careful to keep the Abra hidden while she’d suddenly appeared from out of nowhere, dressed up as an astronaut! “From the far reaches of space, our little alien wishes to make contact with the life-form from another planet! But how will things go?” she continued, spreading her hands out and scattering a mixture of silver-and-black glitter, watching as the lights caught the storm of glitter, seemingly reflecting a million stars as the Elgyem and the Cleffa hovered closer, closer… Just as the two were about to touch, the rest of the lights went out—and along with it, the entire stage was plunged into darkness, leaving Andrea dressed up like the astronaut that she was, seemingly ‘floating’ in the endless reaches of space. To be honest it involved a lot of rigging, but as she began to rise along the stage (with the Abra following her as best as possible, keeping out of sight) she ended the narrative. “From outer space, there are a lot of things shrouded in mystery. But to them, us humans who live here on Earth… are just as mysterious, as they are to us. Who knows how this meeting will end?” she ended with a bit of a grin in her voice, as the last of the lights cut out, leaving just the shimmering background of space, the ‘mons having been sneakily Teleported to the backstage as she continued to rise towards the rafters, and out of sight as the music faded out.
