{spoiler} Mission name: Be a (wo)MAN! With all the force of a great Typhoon Participants: Mia Kearney (and technically Hughard stark) Spawning?: Spawn 4 ludicrous training scenarios, any location, but they have to focus on strength / endurance, like climbing a cold mountain in little clothing, or pulling a truck with a rope. High WC 850 - 1000 Mission details: Feeling much better with herself now that stuff with Nik has majorly been sorted out, Mia feels like kicking her game up a notch. Reading Hugh's letters from his travelling, she decides to take a vacation with him for a week, visiting some of the harsher places he's been and enhancing her training in those locations, trying anything and everything her old mentos says to hit that new, intense level of Strength Mastery. New Skill:
PREVIOUS
Major : Strength
As a fighter, Mia has focused a lot of her strength into her combat, but over the years her training has expanded to the lifting of weights and other general displays of muscle. Its hard to find someone who'll beat her in an arm wrestle from all the times she's taken on the burly miners of liggs at her local bars. As far as her combat skill goes, she's been known to break a few ribs or even an arm when things got especially rowdy in a barfight, but nothing ever long term or especially destructive to those she's fought. She's displayed the ability to punch through a single brick with preperation, and while he strength is focused in her arms, its hard to find a normal door she can't kick down with a well placed punt.
NEW
MASTER : Strength
With compact, sturdy muscle, Mia didn't so much get stronger as she learned how to better use what she had since the rank of major. Under Hugh's rigorous (if unusual) training methods, Mia has reached the peak of her physical skill, able to lift immense weights with strain, and even some more mildly impressive feats with relative ease. Punching concrete blocks dosn't take as much preperation as it used to, and beating her in an arm wrestle is nearly impossible. Whether it's a string of combos or that one hard knockout punch to send someone flying, Mia's "Knockout strikes" are her typical "Z-Move" as a human, and while usually used in battle, can be pretty devestating to inanimate objects too. Still on the plain with Hugh, Mia was definitely excited to go see all the other regions Hugh had talked about in his letters. Cold dangerous mountains, vast canyons, deep forests and jungles. She wanted to see it all, but her old Mentor had left it all a surprise for her, with the sole promise she'd never be forced to swim. She still hadn't learned and she wasn't about to any time soon, at least, not soon enough to survive whatever conditions Hugh probably found acceptable. "So where we headin first big guy? Some weird tribe in a far off region to learn how to pull trees out at the stump?~" High laughed at her teasing, rolling his eyes and ruffling the shorter blonde's hair as he wast often to do, even if she had gotten a fair bit taller recently. "Nothing so ridiculous no, and besides, I have told you, it must be a surprise so you cannot mentally prepare yourself. You wish to see what your body is truly capable of? You must surprise it and let it do what it must to keep you going. Now, are you with me, or shall I get you a flight home?~" "Oh please ya old knucklehead...as if I'm ever gonna back down outta this.~"

Johto, the first stop on Hugh and Mia's training trip, the two had enjoyed a day of just generally experiencing the region, most of which kinda left Mia a little bored, at least the parts they managed to explore, though Hugh did say he might have some endurance training planned with a pal he'd made named Chuck the next time they tried to go on one of these trips together. For now though, the two had the mountains of Johto to explore before they moved on to the next region, and Hugh had his own little training experience planned. As they reached some of the windier mountains, past Mt Silver and slightly off the regional map, Mia started having her guesses at what their little training session would entail, pulling off her jacket and wrapping the arms around her waist as she stretched her arms over her chest.
"So what you got for me Hugh? A treck up the mountains? Rock climbing? You're not gonna make me smash rocks are you? I mean I know you're probably able to do it but I'm not exactly 7 ft plus of muscle like you big guy."
The old gym leader let out a heart chuckle at the suggestions but shook his head, pounding a heavy fist against his own chest. "Sadly lass I've got something a little more tricky for you! I had a friend of mine prepare something up ahead." Mia gave her mentor a quizzical look before the object of their training came into view, letting out a chuckle at the carts, and the rather slim path up the mountain. She could tell that there was a strong wind further ahead where the rocks to her side weren't guarding them from the flow. "Get the carts up the mountain. You spill anything, you start over.~"
"Really...?" Mia was a little confused, wondering how this could really be all that hard. With the stones loaded into the carts she was pretty sure it wouldn't be that hard getting it up there without spilling anything...like it'd be heavy, but spilling things would be near impossible. Metaphorically rolling up her sleeves, the blonde stepped up to the plate and took the handles of the cart in a firm grasp, hoisting up the back end and testing the wheels back and forth before she was ready. "Alright Hugh, I'll take the challenge!~"
Starting into a slow jog, the blonde started to push the cart up the gentle slope towards what Hugh had designed as their end goal, trudging along with the heavy weight. For sure even pushing it was a challenge to an extent, but she was sure she could manage with the weight alone. She felt pretty on the mark with her judgement about it's weight making it harder to tip over...at least until she hit a rough point in the terrain. The uneven surface tipped the cart up just enough on one side for the wind to catch beneath it, tipping the whole thing over and spilling about half the stones it was carrying onto the ground, an almost Smug looking Hugh calling from a fair distance back.
"Guess that means you need to start over Kearney!"
With a bit of mock laughter, Mia loaded the cart back up and trudged it back to the starting point before heading up again. She'd quickly bypass Hugh again...and again...and again given she'd spilled it about 5 more times while Hugh trudged along at a gentle place, managing to keep his cart under control. With a deep breath Mia glared down at the heavily loaded cart, cracking her knuckles and going for a new option....
Almost halfway up the path now, Hugh was surprised that Mia hadn't tried to jog past her again, only to hear her "battle cry" like roar as she charged past him...carrying the cart over her head.
"...This won't end well."
Mia rushed with her full force towards the end of the path, when a strong wind suddenly caught the under side of the cart, her hold on the wheels hard to maintain as the cart tried to fly out of her hands with the immense gust. She was steps away from the end, gritting her teeth and trying to force herself to the top.
"Almost...there...!"
The wheels she was holding suddenly turned to accommodate for the pushing wind, trapping Mia's fingers between the base of the Cart and the axels of the wheels.
Easy to say it was another long climb back up for her...
As Mia kept a much slower pace for her final attempt, she still managed to be a little faster than Hugh, catching up to him when they were close to the end, the blonde gave Hugh a harsh glance. "Lemme guess, this was some patience test or some crap?"
Hugh gave only a hearty laugh and shook his head. "Well more realistically it's about muscle control...but really I just felt like having a good laugh at your expense!~"
"...Oh you are such an old bastard."
"Yeah, but you're a little blonde bitch!~"

With her cart safely locked down for whoever was going to pick it up, Mia wound up her arms and let her sore muscles relax, climbing atop her own pile of stones for a nice little perch to sit. Honestly that was more effort than she expected it to be, both in the fact that she had to do it multiple times, and that it took a lot more control than she would have imagined to actually get it up in the end. Her muscles were constantly tense, ready to push down either dominant side of the car when it tipped up thanks to the bumpy path...
"Geeze...you havn't been doing this all the time have you? Like I know you like to keep the old muscles in working order but damn Hugh." With a light groan as she threw her head back, the older man chuckling a little as he rested on his own stone pile. In truth he was aching a fair bit too, he was getting on in years, and even at his size something could take it out of him if he wasn't careful.
"Don't worry lass, we'll drop by my new Pal Chuck's place and see about getting you some rest before we move on to Hoenn. Sound good?" Mia gave a slow nod herself, rubbing at her shoulder fore a second before seeming to be full of life again, kicking off the stone pile and starting to jog down the windy path.
"Well, no use waiting here then. Gotta power through it right teach?~"
With another chuckle he cave a slow nod, brushing his spiky grey beard as he pulled himself to his feat, fixing his coat and following Mia down the mountain and back towards the more inhabited sections of Johto.
A short boat ride from the nearest city and they were soon in Cianwood, Mia honestly a bit surprised that they were heading straight for the gym, buuut not so much when she realized the typing. "Really, are you like, making friends with allll the fighting gym leaders or something?~" She got a healthy laugh in response and a shake of Hugh's head. "Nah lass, the one in Hoenn's as ego driven as you!~ " She gave him a playful jab in the side as they moved into the gym, the two gym leaders (or rather gym leader and ex gym leader) sharing a pleasant chat over cups of tea while Mia got to know some of the younger trainers who used the gym for training, learning about the waterfall endurance training they took part in.
"So...what do you guys do for actual strength training?"
It was a bit rarer it seemed, but it did happen. Pointing to the earthy wall at the back of the gym there was clearly a set of stands at the top, each with a small bell. One of the younger trainers explained they climb either side of the waterfall, and whoever makes it first is declared the stronger of the two.
"Heh, that's more speed training.I mean sure it takes muscle, but I'd want something more extreme to show off my muscles!~"
"Oh yeah?~" The cheeky call of one of Chuck's pupils called out, crossing his arms over his chest and giving the blonde a playful smirk. "How about we see to that. If you really think you're so strong, you and me, race to the top." It was clear from how some of the other trainers reacted to the challenge that whoever the kid was he was a big shot at the little game, and Mia smirked back, crossing her arms over her chest in turn.
"Fine, you're on!~"
With the game set up for the two of them, Mia flashed the other trainer a smile, both of them stripped down to swimming trunks, and tube top and spats respectively. Mia could already see a few good footholds and, while rock climbing was not her expertise, she was sure she could give this guy a run for his money. With a bash of a gong the two were off and the artificial waterfall began to pour. Mia realized the moment she hit the wall that the surface was already slick and moist, but she'd give it a good go all the same, slamming her hands deep into each next hold and making sure her feet followed behind, taking slow, deep breaths and pacing herself as she learned to on the mountain. Muscle control, and make sure you don't slip..that's the way Mia...
At least...that was her thought process till she realized she was barely a tenth of the way and her opponent was already halfway. Right...guess this wasn't about being careful. Quick and careful maybe, but being solely slow was not gonna win this. She tested out the flexibility of her hips, finding herself able to reach a higher point than she thought, and kicked herself into the next gear. Her hand would slide out of a grip here or there, but she'd charge on all the same, gritting her teeth and making sure she always had one foot and one hand in the holds. Before long she'd caught up, but each of them were practically at the platform. She could see it supported above her, and while she could see her opponent was taking the long route around it...she had another plan.
"Alright...its a long way down but deep breath and...JUMP!"
Kicking off the wall, she pushed herself up and backwards, her hands pulling into herself before jutting out again. Adrenaline surged through her with the risk she was taking, but in a following instance things seemed to speed right back up, slamming her hands around the edge of the suspended platform, her body dangling from it, a bunch of gasps and worried squeaks hitting her ears. She just needed...one last pull...!
Tugging herself onto the platform she could truly feel the aching in her muscles from the earlier cart pushing and now the rapid rock climbing, grasping the rope attatched to the bell, and ringing it just as her opponent touched down on the platform. Panting harshly she rested against the wall, shouting over the cheers and her Mentor's congratulations.
"NOW HOW THE FUCK DO I GET DOWN!?"

With the trip leading them to Alola next, Mia was enjoying some time going along the beach islands, though she was not enjoying avoiding the multiple attempts Hughard was making to get her into the water. She had been officially banned from the Hano Grand Resort for the scene she'd made trying to kick the shit out of him while he carried her to the water on the beach. Ever since she'd tried to stay as far inland as humanly possible, namely Akala island's ranches. They reminded her a bit of her cousin's place near Carrefor what with the old western vibe they were rockin rather than the more updated look of tin based based structures that made up the quicker made, cheaper maintained ranches made in more recent years. It was a good chance for her pokemon to stretch their legs and enjoy themselves, and she managed to maintain her muscles helping out with some of the workload on the ranches. She'd even managed to steal a stetson like she tended to from her cousins...though unlike her cousins she may not return this one, lest she admit fault on her part. Nonetheless, it was shaping up to be a pretty nice part of the vacation... "MIA!" One of the other ranch hands rushed over, panting as they came up to her, their tauros riding up alongside them and looking a little annoyed they hadn't been used, Mia sliding off the fence and quirking a brow. "Dude, sup? You forgot to even ride your poke-" "FIRE!" They blatantly interrupted, still struggling to breathe. "One of...the barns...caught fire!" Mia's eyes shot wide and her eyes turned up. The Barn was far enough away to not be immediately caught by her eyes, but the smoke it was starting to give out definitely was. "Crap...er...get every hand you can and start bringing water pokemon or just plain ol' buckets of water!" She started running, calling out her own Tauros to ride and calling back as she mounted him. "Oh! And bring me the baggiest shirt you can find!" The ranch hand was clearly confused but...yeah. Not the best time to argue. By the time the ranch hand caught up Mia had reached the barn and started giving her pokemon orders, her poliwrath blasting some of the more obvious fire-points with water while Chezzers was using his frenzy plant vines to push out any of the pokemon he could, though a few were so obscured by the fire it was impossible for him to get them out without getting inside himself. Saitama was eager to get inside, given his immunity to real flames, but Mia kept reminding him fighting fire with fire was NOT A GOOD IDEA! "Mia! I got everyone I could....a-and the shirt though I don't know why you-" Mia didn't offer an explanation, and snatched it from him right away, pushing it down over her head and calling out to her Poliwrath. "Oi swirls! Squirt me!" The rounder pokemon quirked a brow, wondering what was on her head before blasting her with a torrent of water, Mia was drenched, and while it had the effect of making the shirt cling to her skin, it also meant there was a lot for the fire to get through before she'd start burning. "Right...there's two miltank left in there right?" The ranch hand peered in, and nodded quickly. "2! They're papa's prized breeds too!" "Right right, lets focus on the fact they're two living pokemon rather than how important they are to the farm shall we? Now...Chezzers! Saitama! Hold the doors open I'm going in!" The two pokemon by the barn doors ripped them open, having been helping the pokemon out through the windows as best they could so their wasn't a burst of oxygen fueling the flames. They immediately sought the new source of air and the flames burst out through the new opening for a second before dieing back down, the still drenched Mia letting out a slow breath before charging into the fire. It was odd how much the world could change when you were inside one of these things. Despite the size of the barn the flames made it feel claustrophobic, the falling rafters probably didn't help in the slightest but Mia tried to push through, using the leather gloves she found to start pushing away the burned wood and making her way through the barn, coughing up smoke and pushing the neck of the moist shirt against her face to try and make sure she didn't choke on her way to the miltank. Eventually, the sound of their cries called her to them, and Mia's eyes widened as she realized this would be harder than just clearing a path for them. One Miltank was fine, the other had a huge burn mark on it's right leg. Even Mia wouldn't wanna walk on that, especially when the damage was clearly so fresh. "Right...lets do this." Putting her hands under the key rafter in their path, Mia lifted quickly from the knees and up over her head, pushing the huge chunk of charred wood as high as she could, trying to narrow her eyes through the smoke and lean the rafter against the wall, one Miltank rushing out ahead of her, while the other tried it's best to limp, only to let out a shocked cry when Mia dead-lifted the pokemon right over her head, charging through the fire even past the first pokemon, panting and collapsing as she made it out with the miltank, the pokemon rolling along the grass, Mia cough up smoke and a bit of water from her moist shirt she'd been breathing through. It was almost fully dry by the time she got out, and with no pokemon left inside the water pokemon started using full power streams to put the fire out, since...well the barn was not in a state to stick around. "Some part of this damn holiday is gonna be an actual holiday I swear..."

CHALLENGE 4: DELIVER US FROM DARKNESS
WC: 1000
Whoops! It seems that a little girl got a bit too carried away on a Rhyhorn ride and both her and the pokemon ended up crashing into and falling down an old well! Luckily a friendly Herdier has managed to get your attention, but now both the girl and the rocky rhino stuck in the dark and afraid, and getting them out will be be no easy task! Climb down and tie a strong rope around the heavy Rhyhorn so you can drag it back up, after you have climbed out of the well with the little girl on your back, of course! Don't forget to reassure the little girl, dark places can be scary for anyone, and her pokemon will be calmer if she isn't so panicked!

Her last day on the ranch, Mia had enjoyed helping out the owners rebuilding the ranch, even getting some actual training out with Hugh. Maybe it was her imagination but he was seeming a bit slower lately. Whatever the case, she felt it was a good trip all around. She'd gotten into a few interesting situations, Hugh had been teaching her a few things about how to use her muscles, and she'd had a great time getting to know the family she'd been working with. As much work as there was, it was still an amazing vacation, and she'd try to remember as best she could to come visit the farming family again sometime in the future.
As she was lacing up her boots, Hugh already back at the hotel they'd been staying at and packing up their luggage, Mia was about ready to get moving to meet them at the airport, already having said her goodbyes to the people she'd been working with over the past few weeks. She was just about to stand from the rock she'd been sitting on to do up her laces when a stoutland, one she recognized from the farm pokemon, rand up and barked to her, eager to convey something, Mia's eyes going wide.
"What's that lassie? Jannette's stuck down a well!?" She jumped to her feet, a look of alarm on her whole body. "Well why didn't you-SNRRRK!~" She covered her face as she burst into a giggle fit, waving the canine pokemon off. "Oh god I'm so sorry I just couldn't resist. Sorry fella. You wanna lead the way to your trainer? I can't understand anything you're trying to tell me."
Cue to five minutes later...
"...Well now I feel like a fucking ass..."
Gripping the edge of the well the Stoutland had lead her to, there was a small child and her rhyhorn at the bottom, both of them a little quiet at the bottom, but now that she was leaning over the edge they were clear enough to hear. With a slow breath, she looked around to see what there was to use. She'd given Hugh her pokemon to deposit in the PC for the journey so this was down to her...a bucket and rope was pretty much all that was in arms reach, and while she could get more help...no. She could sort this on her own. "Stoutland, go see who else you can find. I should be able to do this alone but...ya know. Just in case."
The pokemon gave a dutiful bark before rushing off to perform said duty, Mia wrapping the rope over and across her torso, tying the ends so the loose rope didn't just fall away. With a deep breath she spotted a good first foot hold, and kicked herself over the edge of the well. Turning mid vault was a bit difficult, but she managed to catch herself on the rough stonework inside the wall. The moist rocks were difficult to hold onto, but her training in johto a few days ago did help a fair bit. Nevertheless this was a time to be cautious rather than speedy, slow breaths through her nose letting her travel down the inside of the well, the girl noticing her about halfway down when she briefly let her grasp slip, catching herself by placing her back against the other side of the well, careful not to bang her head and taking a series of slow breaths to calm herself, and ultimate get to the bottom.
"M-miss...a-are you stuck down here too now?"
"No...no we'll be fine..." Easing down to her feet in the minimal space they had at the bottom, Mia gave the young girl a quiet smile before focusing on the Rhyhorn, taking the rope from herself, tying one end around her stomache, and about two rings around the rhyhorn. If she was lucky she might be able to get to the top before the rhyhorn began to tug.
"Right...I'm gonna get you back up to the top, and then i'm gonna help your pokemon." "O-okay miss...b-but how are you gonna lift my rhy-" "Shhhh...I'm gonna do it and that's all you need to know okay?" The kid definitely looked unsure, but gave a slow nod, climbing on Mia's back as prompted. The Rhyhorn gave a thankful smile, not too worried about himself, and let Mia start climbing again. Oddly enough getting up was easier than getting down since it was easier to see her next footholds, going up and up little by little. It wasn't long before she could make a final grab for edge of the well, but as she did, she felt the tug of the rope around her waste...fuck...maybe the double ring on the rhyhorn was a bad idea.
She could go back down and go to one ring, but then it'd risk snapping around the rhyhorn when she finally pulled him up...no...she could do this...
"Kid...you're gonna need to climb up my back and get out o-OW! Okay! You're good...!" Mia grit her teeth as the girl grasped at her hair to climb her body, furious about that being where she chose to cling to, but not about to let rage take over right now. With a long deep breath, she let herself fall back as the girl got out safely. It was a rough surface against her back, but now she had 5 points of secure contact with the inside of the well...little by little she inched her way up as she felt the tug around her waist. Hugh would probably bitch her out about the spine and hips being a terrible place to put all this weight, but she'd deal with that when she got to it. It almost took a full minute of inching, but with aching arms and legs she managed to pull her way out. The Rhyhorn was suspended a few feet from the well's floor, and Mia didn't think dropping him would let her keep the rope.
Grasping it in both hands, one end still tied around her, she took a deep breath and started to tug the rhyhorn the rest of the way up. It was a strain, but with the rope supporting a fair bit of the weight, she was pushing her limits, but it was doable, one hand after the other she managed to tug it up, and after about another minute, she could see the horn of the pokemon as it was trying to crawl up the edge itself. She lunged forward and grasped the rough stone edges of it's maw, feet against the edge of the well and tugging as hard as she could, pulling the rhyhorn out, and ontop of herself with a heavy "OOF! escaping her, the girl clapping with glee and jumping on the rhyhorn too, bringing a weak groan from the crushed Mia...
"Still...g-good vacation....unnnngh...."
