『Eeeeh good thing bank job was just the first thing to come to mind. I stole a bunch of voltorb to do one for fun but I may just save them too, I can do so much more with a box full of explosive pokemon afterall!~』
Trotting along the wasteland Niso was thoroughly enjoying letting a bit more of his true self loose for a change, humming quite happily to himself. The metagross catching up to his side didn't seem too scared, but he was more computer than pokemon, which was part of the reason Niso chose to catch him as a beldum. With a little hop onto a rock, her scaled up to a higher spot on it and crouched down, narrowing his eyes to try and find a pokemon to fight. This guy already knew about his secret...maybe he could use it to scare a few more pokemon while he was at it!~

Orion chuckled dryly. A box full of explosive Pokemon could be so useful— for a lot of things, he guessed. Watching as Niso moved, however, his gaze did flicker around searching out the various Pokemon that roamed the area. The Silvally, meanwhile, remained closer at hand than she had before, her wariness directed at Niso more than anything else.
Oh! There was something now wasn’t it? Against the “green” landscape that filled the area, Orion might have missed it if he hadn’t been looking carefully. A Roserade appeared to be standing by a tree, a hand on his hip. A smirk pulled onto Orion’s features as he grabbed a Pokeball, already knowing the perfect Pokemon for this. In a flash, a Kadabra made her appearance, shaking out her form and stretching briefly.
“Kadabra, we have a challenge,” Orion mused. That was more than enough to pull the Pokemon back into focus, and as her eyes met the gaze of the Roserade, the Kadabra was immediately on guard. Thrusting her spoons forward, she leaned a litte, watching the Roserade carefully. On being acknowledged, the latter danced about, summoning up a green aura that filled the area with a sweet smell and electrifying power.
Grassy Terrain… Hah, like that would do any good. Orion smirked a little too hard. “Psyshock,” he ordered. The Kadabra straightened slightly and frowned. Well, Orion truly did go in for the kill sometimes didn’t he? Twirling her fingers outward, she twisted the spoons in her hand before releasing a burst of violent psychic power that went crashing at the Roserade. The latter shrieked taking the force of the hit and collapsing backwards immediately. He struggled, barely managing to get back up by sheer force of will alone (and a little boost from the Grassy terrain itself). Huffing, he ran forward, trying to steal back some strength with a Giga drain.
A bit of surprise did jump into Orion’s gaze when the Psyshock was not enough to fell this particular foe. As he stole some power from the Kadabra, she winced but would not go down immediately. At close range, however, that only spelled doom in a different format. “Ice Punch,” Orion ordered. The Kadabra’s hand convulsed into a tight frosty punch before slamming it into the Roserade. He hissed, collapsing back, one part of his body clearly frozen. “Again,” Orion spoke flatly. The Kadabra was pretty sure she was beating a dead hose at this point but summoned up another round of ice and punched the non-frozen part of the Roserade.
When he finally went down, Orion smirked. Well, at least that had been something of a challenge, right? “Nice work,” he mused briefly. The Kadabra looked back at him and shrugged slowly. Looking back around, she began to gauge the area of her own volition— only vaguely noticing that Null had a new form of sorts. Well, that was nice even if it made her vaguely more frightening in the long run.
....Oh hell he was playing with that weird psycho child again.

『Seems like you're not the only one to find a little challenger!~』
Spotting a Toxicroak crawling over a sizeable rock in the distance, Niso kicked off the one he'd perched on to get a good look and hummed along as he tossed a pokeball between his hands. As the Toxicroak recognized the challenging walk, Niso sent out his little choice, a rather grouchy looking Whismur growling as the sound echoed oddly in the vast wasteland, Niso stepping back and narrowing his eyes. The toxicroak rushed forward, seeing it as no threat only for a sudden dizziness to come over it, the odd echoe of the growl seeming to be a confusion attack as the sound scraped lightly at his brain, groaning and pounding his head against the floor.
Taking advantage of the situation, the Whismur stepped closer, letting a hyper voice after hyper voice was over the toxicroak, forcing it to grip it's head harder, between the confusion and the loud noise it was pounding and he had a desire to hurt himself further some how. Eventually, he managed to pass out just from the sheer mental overload, not a true KO, but the whismur's malicious smirk seemed to say the pink fluffball would take it.

Hmmmm? Orion’s gaze flicked over as sound seemed to fill the area. A Whismur? Weren’t they just small fluffballs of cute and cuddly? Apparently not this one for as much power as he was forcing out of his lungs. Vaguely Orion recalled what Whismur became and how Loudred and Exploud were much much more fearsome, especially on a good day.
The corners of Orion’s lips did turn up a little more as a second thought occurred to him. Niso raised Pokemon up from their base forms. He put in the time and effort to actually train in way, shape, fashion or form, and ….Coming from a place where you could catch wild, active, fully evolved Pokemon all the time, even if Veria was somehow weirdly different with its species populations, Orion found it all vaguely interesting/impressive maybe. How much or how little did he actually care for the Pokemon in his care?
Steps closed the distance between Orion and Niso, the prior stretching up as he drew near. “What a fearsome smol,” he snorted softly. “I take it you pick Pokemon by personality?”

With the toxicroak down, the Whismur waddled over and lightly kicked the dizzy looking pokemon's head to ensure it was down for now, and, with a malicious grin on his pink little form, began stomping on it's face in victory with an increasingly angry look in it's eyes, taking in it's victory over a much larger and deadlier pokemon. Niso couldn't help but smirk and snicker at the sight, finding it borderline adorable until he was distracted by his fan, chuckling a little more as he folded his arms.
『Most of them!~ You need to make sure your pokemon like to cause chaos if you want them to partake afterall...though...』 As if to prove his point, in fact, exactly for that purpose, Niso found a pokeball on the inside of his jacket, letting it grow in his palm before rolling it out. What emerged from the flash was a Gengar who...well he was manic, but not in the way of say, Niso's scizor that news reports may have included. What was usually a lively, chaotic pokemon in it's own right, seemed borderline deranged, not bothering to float in the air, sitting on the ground and looking around frantically, finally meeting Niso's eyes and silently shrieking with his eyes, dashing behind Orion and cowering with his large "ears" held down against his head.
『Well...they learn to behave themselves~』 He held up the pokeball, the red beam curling around Orion and returning the gengar to it's ball.

A small half-laugh escaped from Orion as Niso confirmed his suspicions. “Understandable,” he mused briefly. When Niso pulled out a Pokeball, however, a look of intrigue did flash into Orion’s gaze. Hmmmmm??? The Gengar that was released had Orion’s eyes growing almost larger than the frames of his glasses. The way its eyes shifted, the way it moved, that features seemed so contorted somehow. A shiver went through Orion again, and the hairs on the back of his neck stood upward again. It’s not predatory— no but this was the look of something that could do just as much if not more damage by not being so.
Before Orion could move, the Gengar had, and Orion turned briefly to look at him. Wait- what? And then before he could even ask, however, the Gengar was returned, and Orion found himself looking back again. They learn to behave themselves… Wait was that… a look of fear? No, it clearly read as something more, something slipping at the edges of sanity even. He’d seen that look somewhere but… but where? Dad. Ah, right.. right right, that made sense. Some of the people Dad interacted with had that look though. Was it because of him or because of situations outside of him? Orion couldn’t ask now.
…If nothing else, however, he was interested. “….what’d you do to him?” he asked, his voice melodic rather than repulsed. It was what it sounded like: genuine and true curiosity at its finest. The mind truly is an interesting piece of work.

Niso was genuinely a little surprised by the tone of curiosity in his lit-big. Big fan's voice. Tossing the re-filled pokeall between his hands, he looked idly off to the side at the question, before a devious little smirk crossed his lips. Gengar had always been one of his more rebellious pokemon, to the point he'd even once turned against Niso mid battle, but that was long ago. Now? Now he was just a broken shell who'd do what he was told in the hopes he didn't have to mega evolve again.
『Oh nothing much~ A bit of agonizing transformations here, a bit of forceful control there~』 He'd give an almost cheeky chuckle at his own words, pocketing the pokeball and hands resting on his hips, glancing to the rather chipper whismur who'd walked up to his side before continuing, talking about the subject of mentally destroying his own pokemon rather casually. 『In all seriousness though, it wasn't an intended result, but one I enjoy all the same. Have you ever heard of mega evolution?~ It turns out you don't really neeeeeed all that fluffy friendship is magic crap-』 Blame Sera for getting him into that show. 『-For it to work. In reality you just need the key components...but of course, doing it that way can lead to...well...Gengar-esque results~』
Stepping a little towards Orion, he gestured a little theatrically with his arms as he described the process. 『Something about truly connecting with your pokemon seems to soften the process, but evolving without that bond...well the transformation itself is painful, and the mind can easily break under that influx of power and forced connection it seems, especially when you're connected to a mind like mine!~ He was just the only pokemon i had to mega evolve, but after a while, he'd begin to flinch and recoil at the mere thought of leaving his pokeball...~』 Niso flinched and recoiled almost comically as he emphasized his points with his actions. 『One day I brought him out and he just...wasn't himself anymore~ Much more effective though to say the least~』

Agonizing transformations and forceful control. Though Orion should have thought of Mega Evolution right off the bat, what came to mind instead was Shadow Pokemon instead. While he’d never had one, they had been almost all too common place in Era by the time he’d left it. Not having many details into the secrets of the technique or what it even did exactly aside from make Pokemon violent on occasion, he found himself wondering if he’d somehow missed a huge part of the Verian underbelly.
This idea was… weakened as Niso went on to explain it wasn’t an intended result and was in fact Mega Evolution. “I have~” he mused briefly at the question. It turns out you don’t need all that fuffy friendship is magic crap. Orion’s brow quirked a bit. Just the key components… But then Gengar was the result. Orion’s brain flipped over these things over and over trying to piece them together in whichever way they’d fit.
Evolving without that bond… Painful. Mind-breaking. Connecting to Niso’s mind. Orion’s lips parted some, but an index finger raised briefly to press against the space. One day he just wasn’t himself anymore… This was… this was something. He’d never heard of a Pokemon’s mind just up and breaking before. Granted, he’d never heard of Mega Evolution before coming to Veria either so… so. Knowing that psychosis could be spread like a disease, a plague that needed constant repetition to work…. It was fascinating.
And terrible.
For as interested as he was, for as curious as he was, for as much as he was Abe Alim’s son… Orion… was not Abe. The thought of wrecking a Pokemon’s mind through pain and whatever else… was actually vaguely repulsive. It twisted in the back of Orion’s mind and somewhere deep in his stomach, and for as much as he tried to shove his moral compass out the window, there was something about Pokemon that always held his tenderness. Perhaps it was just that Mr. Fish had never hurt him the way people had.
Orion exhaled softly. Yellow eyes closed briefly, and the hand at his lips reached back and set it on the back of his neck instead. “I almost feel bad for him,” he admitted managing to smile despite this. “But if you can’t fight hard enough for your mind maybe you don’t deserve to keep it anyways…” He laughed a little and reached another arm back to stretch briefly. “I have a few Pokemon that can Mega Evolve, but it’s kind of a sickening process on my end. Always makes my stomach twitch. You know how to get rid of that by chance~?”

Niso's smile grew a little as he watched Orion's eyes. He had no idea what was really going on in his mind, confusion, fear, disgust, intrigue, but just watching those little cogs turn in whatever direction brought him a twinge of joy and a sly little chuckle, walking around behind Orion as he asked his question, cupping his own chin in a light sense of thought, trying to recall what his one time mentor in the art had taught him, before he released him from Prison as per their bargain.
『I can't say I know!~』 He grinned a little and turned sharply on his heels to face Orion, shrugging at the question overall. 『The person who taught me how to mega evolve wasn't the most pure of people!~ He was one of the few who knew how to mega evolve without forming some sort of loving bond in the process.』 Which was true, he knew enough from the internet that mega evolution was rumored to require a strong bond with one's pokemon, something he in no way possessed, but...
『If I had to hazard a guess though, I would say the answer is simply a form of synergy!~』 An odd explanation perhaps, but one that made sense to him. 『You see, when me and my Scizor mega evolve, there is hardly such an issue!~ Now we're not neccessarily friends, but we are fr more alike than me and my Gengar ever would have been. Now, if my zoroark could mega evolve, I doubt there'd be any pain involved in the process whatsoever! Do you have any mega capable pokemon you synergize with perchance?~』

A small snort escaped from Orion as Niso spoke. The person who’d ‘taught’ him wasn’t the most pure of people either, but still he’d been very straightforward about what was necessary and adamant about having a strong bond with one’s Pokemon first. Still… one of the few people who knew how to Mega Evolve without forming some sort of living bond in the process… That was… truly fascinating.
The mention of synergy had the corners of Orion’s mouth twitching. What did that mean? Far more alike. Ah, he was talking about personalities, chemistry, a sort of connectivity. At the question, however, he thought back briefly before smirking. Without explaining, Orion made a gesture over to the Kadabra, causing her to shift and turn. “Go get Zappers for me,” he requested/ordered. The Kadabra frowned but gave a small nod, teleporting off ‘home’ to grab the Manectric’s Pokeball. She’d take only a few seconds before coming back Pokeball in hand. Orion gave a nod and took it before releasing the electric dog inside.
Zappers was… something, for sure. From the way he stood to the way his eyes reflected, the Manectric was cool and yet…. There was a sort of controlled feralness about him. “He’s one of the few that just gets it…” Orion chuckled a little softly.

Niso was oddly glad that his "lesson" was being so well recieved, walking over to his metagross and climbing atop the pokemon's head, sitting cross legged as the kadabra vanished and returned not long after. So this was his fan's most "synergized" pokemon. The look in his eyes didn't really provide much given Niso's practical inability to empathize, but hey, they weren't too far off in color...oh, wait, he was thinking of electrike.
Yeah he had no idea if these two were actually compatible or not but...oh well!~
『Well then I suppose the question is if you've ever mega evolved with him!~ It's one thing to just think he's compatible, practice is a whole other matter. Don't tell me a fan of mine has been too afraaaaaaid to hurt his little pokemon that he didn't even try!~』 Snickering a little as he leaned over, resting his hands on the knees of his crossed legs, he eyed down the Manectric, wondering if it was about to get hurt or go through the more "synced" of mega evolutions.
『Well I'd show you my Scizor, but as you can see, I've got my six pokemon for the day, and none of them can teleport. Why don't you do the great chaos lord Niso a favor and demonstrate some mega evolutionizing for him!~』
His dark aura burned across his skin much like before, the white, eerey smile plastered across his face.
『If you would be so kind of course...~』

A weird chuckle escaped from Orion at Niso’s words. I wouldn’t have had him brought if I hadn’t. But… the one who ended up in a bad situation when it came to Mega Evolution was never his Pokemon. Of his Pokemon that could Mega Evolve, they always seemed… roughly ok going through it. No, he was always the one stuck with weird sickening feelings and whatever else. Taking a slow couple of breaths, he gave a nod to Niso and pulled the keystone out of his pants. The little sphere jingled on a silver chain with a keychain attached. “Alright, Zaps,” he mused briefly.
The Manectric howled, and with it came the glow of the keystone nad the Mega Stone with it. Orion took in a sharp breath as the familiar burst of light filled the area, the electric dog expanding in form and size. In a blitz he broke from the shell of light and opened his maw to rawer and snap it a couple of times.
Orion exhaled, his stomach tight and fidgety. “There now… not terrible…” he chuckled a bit despite himself.
The Kadabra fidgeted a little, and even the Silvally seemed to go on edge just a bit stomping her foot briefly. Neither one of them had actually seen Mega Evolution for themselves, and while one was brooding over the possibility of doing so once she finally evolved, the latter was feeling weirdly outclassed and edgy from it.

Niso was almost dissapointed when, visually, the transformation went off without a hitch. The way the guy had made it sound was that he was having similar issues with mega evolution too, but if the worst they were all having was a stomache bug, not that he even knew that, he couldn't help but feel a twinge of dissapointment in not getting a show out of this, genuinely whining a little as the new Mega Manectric got comfortable in it's new form.
『Well, you two seem to be in sync at the very least....thooooough...』 Tilting his head back, Niso pulled the Gengar's pokeball from inside his jacket, tossing it out, the Gengar standing up this time, though hunched over, looking at it's own fingers as it fiddled with it's hands, seemingly lost on where it was or why it was back out in the "real world". 『If that's the worst you thought mega evolution was, perhaps I wasn't too clear on what the REAL consequences of it can be~』
Pulling from his pocket, Niso now held a small pocket knife, a Z crystal on one side of the handle, a keystone on the other. Flipping it about idly in his hand, something he'd been practicing now that he didn't have to fear losing fingers, a bright glow began to burn from it, and as a stream of energy burst out, connecting Niso and the Gengar, the pokemon instantly seemed to be in pain. Hunching over it lurched onto all fours, letting out a choking attempt at a scream, the spikes on it's back growing out at a sickeningly jagged and slow pace, it's tiny arms burst out to either side, growing at the forearm before slamming back into the ground, it's lower body fusing with the earth as a sickening chuckle began to replace the choking sounds, not from Niso but the pokeon itself. A constant "hypno" effect seemed to be in it's eyes representing it's more manic state over it's deranged former self. It's huge grin was made of sharp fangs, and it's tongue lulled out as it's eyes seemed to search for something rather than the random glances it had before. The transformation had clearly been painful, and now Gengar seemed like a totally different pokemon.
『Really, just make sure none of your pokemon go through THAT, and you should be fine!~』

Orion exhaled deeply. Yeah you’re not the one feeling it though he wanted to say but decided to keep it to himself for now. What he ddin’t expect was… well, what came next. Yellow eyes grew, and Orion blanched. The way the Gengar screamed, the way he writhed on evolving. It all immediately felt sick. So much worse… The words in the back of Orion’s mind repeated a couple times. This is so much worse… No wonder the Pokemon seemed so afraid so… so… many different things.
The Kadabra had shifted behind the Silvally, cautiously hoping she’d defend her should that thing attack. The Silvally couldn’t take her eyes of the Gengar. An instinct to fight was teeming up in her, but just as much as the instinct to run. The Manectric was possibly the only one of the three how had any confidence that he could deal with that thing should it get out of hand, and even then he wasn’t feeling great on seeing it.
“Arceus fuck….” escaped form Orion slowly as his hand absently reached to adjust his glasses. “I can see the difference.” And practically feel it? Or was that his own anxiety that felt so palpable? Orion’s hand moved, and he found himself opening a box of cigarettes, pulling one out, and lighting the end. It probably wouldn’t do any good for him then but… “If it wasn’t already a ghost I’d say you could kill it like that…” Could you actually kill Ghost Pokemon? Orion vaguely wondered now.
