It was torture, not returning Mia's calls. Torture not to, as she had done for the past several months, actively go out of her way to spend time with her idol. Her heroine, a term that applied in more ways than one considering her apparent addiction. Yet Anna had convinced herself it was better this way; better that Mia just forget about her and move on. Anna wasn't good enough for her anyway, not in a romantic sense nor a rival sense, their previous battle had proved that much to her.
Three days she had spent packing, despite not really knowing where she was planning to go. She had already called up the League representatives telling them she'd be taking an extended leave of absence from her position, which left the gym in the hands of Ricky. With the way she was feeling right now, it might end up permanently being left to him... but she had to try this one last ditch effort. This one last push to make herself strong.
She had to find a teacher.
A several hour journey found Anna at the doors of the Carrefor Gym. She had met two Gym Leaders beyond Mia and they had both seemed incredibly strong... perhaps not stronger than Mia but close and with enough experience and wisdom to have something to offer her. Akira Mikan and Karin Norling... two people that she had very clearly embarrassed herself in front of during their first meeting, yet she thought she had at least earned their respect by fighting the dinosaur Pokemon during the Liggs Disaster. Well... she hoped so, at least.
Hesitation gripped her as she raised her hand to open the sliding door, having to steel herself for a moment before slowly pulling it aside and stepping through into the inky darkness. Having prepared for this and really not in the mood for showy gym theatrics, she pressed the button on her headphones, activating her flashlight and stepping forward with a slow, somber gait, hoping that Karin would understand why she was here.
"Karin! It's Annalin... Venom, if ya prefer! I just wanna talk..."

Anna grunted and hissed slightly as the lights turned on, the sudden brightness hurting her eyes. With a lazy motion she turned off her flashlight and waited for Karin to appear; clearly she had been heard. Her signature scowl turned to one of quiet acceptance as the Ghost Gym Leader stepped forth, though she had to admit she was a little thrown by the disparity between her clearly chipper attitude and the somber look of the gym. It needed some bright, neon colors... maybe a few zombies and skeletons adorning the walls to really freak people out.
With a short sigh, Anna moved forward into the area Karin had beckoned her to, biting her lip somewhat as she steeled her heart for what she was about to ask. Geez... it wasn't like she was asking her out on a date or anything; especially considering she and Akira were very obviously an item. With a short breath, she drew herself up, straightening her back to indicate respect.
"I need your help. I... I wanna get stronger. How can I call myself a Gym Leader in the same caliber as you, Akira and-... and Mia... when, if a real challenger turned up, I'd probably fall flat on my ass..." Her gaze fell to the floor, fingers curling into fists as she shook somewhat, trying not to break into any kind of tears in front of her potential mentor and colleague. "So I... I wanna get stronger... be a real challenge... c-can you help me?"

Weren't those the best teachers though? The ones who never saw themselves as such? It was a piece of advice her aunt had given her long ago, one she had cherished; to learn from those who seek anything but to teach, for profit or otherwise, you just had to take away the right knowledge. With a short breath, she nodded quickly, drawing herself up again to look her new teacher in the eyes. Respect had to be given.
"I do want your help. I wanna help my city... and my friends. I don't wanna feel useless anymore." This was the first step in a long journey for her, she could feel it. The end of her reign of feeling washed up, feeling like she didn't belong. She was going to be strong. For Mia, for everyone... No more feeling like she amounted to nothing as a Gym Leader.
"Please... help me."
