Mission name: The Aura and the Ultra Aura Participants: Luke Catching?: No Spawning: 1 Totem Pokemon and 5 particular puzzles to solve, Word Count based Mission details: After creating the Ultra Aura detector, Luke has been testing it out slowly around Veria. So far, he has found only low levels of Ultra Aura radiation and is rather discouraged by this fact. However, while out scanning an area, he comes across a spike in Ultra Aura, surrounding an ancient temple out in the wilderness. Coming to the platform, he finds a single Pokemon Alola’s Totem Pokemon waiting for him. It seems to sense his strange aura and sets out to test him for it. Rather than battle, Luke is asked to assist in solving puzzles found throughout the ruins. These puzzles can include things like mazes, trap door unlocks, and various things that give a similar feel to Indiana Jones. If Luke can solve them all, the end result is a Grassium Z and the Totem Pokemon will teach Luke Z knowledge specifically. Reward: Z-Knowledge + Grassium Z
Beep, beep, beep… The Ultra Aura detector’s noises resounded like a heartbeat as Luke made his way through the forest and foliage. Though it might have been jarring to anyone else, Luke had been hearing it for almost a week now, and like any patient in the hospital, he’d begun to associate it with white noise. Beep…Beep….Beep…
Despite his best efforts, he couldn’t get it to completely stop registering his own aura (or rather what he had confirmed was his own Ultra Aura) being so close, but he had been able to tone it down and make its range wider so as to search out Ultra Aura beyond him. At least he had been able to confirm that the ‘light’ Nilly had described him with was his own Ultra Aura probably inherited from his Fall with his mother but…. Beep… Beep….Beep…
A soft groan escaped from Luke, his gaze flickering up to the terrain and down to the detector again. You have been out quite a lot the past few days… Nilly commented for the Nth time in however many hours. Luke answered with a small mental yeah back as had become habit. The Nihilego shifted on his skin a bit clearly wishing to say more but not knowing what, exactly. Thank you for your efforts… “Mmmmm….” Nilly fell silent and let Luke go back to work again.
And then… the sound changed. The tone whistled, and Luke’s eyes flashed up and around searching for the source. W-wait where was he again? He’d strayed off the path long ago but had been fairly certain up to that point that he knew where he wa— Ruins? Luke squinted a little. That became an after thought, however, as Nilly made a noise. LIGHT… Light? Light where???

High above, a Pokemon looked down. A nearby stairwell led to her, and she looked between the human-- or perhaps not-human-- and the stairs. It would not be clear until Luke began climbing that every X number of steps detected-- the precise number of that X following a long pattern so as to seem random at first-- several small sections of stairs would collapse in to form a steep slope. Would luck favor them, or would they be clever enough to time the steps and rest on safe areas during the collapses? It should be interesting to see. Do the visitors have what it takes? [500 Words] |

(I swear I thought about Gumshoos and went 'nah that's boring' and then 'hm it doesn't feel right unless it's Alolan though so I'll RNG until I get an Alolan Pokemon and RNG quickly decided Gumshoos too so I went 'well okay then'.)

Light! The Light! Nilly, Arceus damn it calm down. Luke was getting a headache just listening to it. It’s here! Ok, ok ok. Luke took in a breath, searching the area a bit slower now scanning over each ruin that he could until— His yellow eye had raised up only to freeze at the sight of the Gumshoos looming above. An unexpected chill ran through him, and the young man shifted from one foot to the other. She’s huge… Like… a Totem Pokemon was supposed to be, or so he’d heard anyways. Even though he had lived in Alola for quite some time before coming to Veria, he’d never undergone the trials himself. He could… guess though.
Is she the light? She was not an Ultra Beast— at least not in any textbook or Pokedex entry he knew of— but then Alola had been the place that Ultra Beasts had descended, and there was a supposed link between Ultra Aura and Z power or so he’d read. Even then, with little understanding or assurance, he felt the need to get up closer to her, to see her. On cacthing Luke’s eye, the Gumshoos made a small head gesture around. Luke’s gaze slowly dropped, and it was only then that he saw the stairs. O-oh? Hesitantly, he walked forward, stepping on the first and then ascending a bit more confidently.
And then the stair collapsed underfoot. A sharp noise escaped from Luke as he tripped, collapsing onto the stairs. Two opposable tendrils of hair lunged forward, keeping him from hitting his mouth on the pavement, but ow now he was tense and uncomfortable and…. Are you ok? Nilly begged-spoke. Luke winced and slowly shifted back up. “Just a little shaken, Nill t’s fine…” he answered looking back up the stairs. From the top, the Gumshoos stared, waiting. A slow breath drew into Luke. “Can you come down?” he called out to the Gumshoos. The latter stared for a moment longer before turning and disappearing out of sight. Luke’s teeth grit. He could probably have a Pokemon fly him up to the top, but some part of himself had already guessed that wasn’t the ‘point’ of whatever this was.
Slowly, carefully, awkwardly, Luke ascended the steps again. When a step gave way, he found himself moving just fast enough to get back before it fell. Still one half-way up the stairs gave way before he could do anything, and he went tripping back down the stairs again. Nilly caught him once again before he could physically hit the steps or the ground. Luke just call Hestia. Nilly whined. Luke grit his teeth and considered it but… but no. There had to be a pattern or something to this, right? Looking back at the stairs, he started to count only then noticing the pattern of sorts. Every three except the third three or so it looked like. Hesitantly, he began ascending again, making careful even steps. Every three except the third three. Every three exc- FUCK that was the wrong count, and he nearly went tripping down the stairs again. Luckily Nilly pulled his arm out, and he caught the wall before. Climbing up again, they would indeed make it to the top.

The Gumshoos looked on as Luke made it to the top. Ahhh... Good, good. The visitor might be worth seeing after all. It was hard to tell that she was smiling given her toothy resting state, but she knew.
Slowly, she approached Luke, stopping about ten feet away. It was more than close enough to tell she was probably ten feet tall herself. Looking down, she'd size him up before nodding and turning to walk away. She stopped before a great stone door, and made and arm motion toward it before stepping back.
On the front were many stone panels. Some could be turned, and some could be moved. What purpose could this serve?

As he came face to face with the Gumshoos, Luke realized again how massive she was. He stood maybe half her height if that, and he felt considerably smaller right then. He didn’t… even know Gumshoos could grow to that kind of size— wouldn’t have believed it had it not been for his knowledge that totem Pokemon did indeed exist. As she nodded at him, he blinked confused. H-huh? “I… Are…. Huh?” His gaze followed her as she turned to walk. “H-hey wait,” was the quick response before he followed suit.
Coming up to the door, Luke blinked slowly at it before looking back at the Gumshoos. Her clear gesture for him to do something had him looking back at it again. A yellow eye flickered around to the panels, and he found his hand reaching up to feel over them. That one can turn… Nilly noted in the back of his mind. Luke had registered it as well abet more intrinsically.
Somewhere in the back of his mind, the gears were already moving. Some kind of door. It was some kind of door, and this was some kind of lock mechanism, right? Or maybe some sort of trap. He couldn’t tell. Both hands reached up, feeling over the way in which each panel moved, those that slid and those that twisted. At one point, even the prehensile locks of hair had raised to feel over several that he couldn’t quite reach from where he was. It’s got some kind of pulley system somewhere in the back… Would the door swing inward if he unlocked it?
A panel twisted unexpectedly, and Luke yelped as one of the locks of hair was caught in it. Nilly retched as well pulling it away as soon as she could. Ow… ow ow ….. Reaching up, Luke felt through that lock of hair. Nilly whined displeased. We have to be more careful…focus… Luke was mumbling mentally to her and himself. These were not smooth pristine block toys. These were ruins or something of that like.
Very briefly, Luke’s gaze flickered to the Gumshoos again, but she seemed to simply be watching him, so he looked forward again to the puzzle at hand. “Alright…” If he twisted that one way and moved it upwards— oh. A yellow eye blinked thrice as he realized the patterns lined up. “Then that means…” Shifting a hand around, he maneuvered a piece towards the first two and then a fourth towards that three. Turning one around, he lined that one up as well. “It’s a pattern…” One that felt vaguely familiar, but why, he wasn’t too sure. His hands moved, his eye flickered, and after some hesitation, he pulled back and removed the eye patch as well, giving himself three dimensions to look at. It wasn’t just a pattern— it was… a picture of some sort?
Stepping back from it when he’d completed it, Luke realized where he had seen the picture before. It reminded him of one of the many images on Alola, the art style, the typing, but it depicted a person in mid-motion. Luke’s eyes flashed back to the Gumshoos. “It’s… a Z move huh?” he asked. The Gumshoos seemed to look at the mural as well but said nothing. Unexpectedly, the doors wung inwards, and Luke was left sputtering surprised.

The Gumshoos would go through the door into a cave-like area. Oddly enough, there seemed to be a chasm with an arch on the other side leading to deeper into the area. There was a strange mural on the walls in what looked like Unown symbols. The Gumshoos would waste little time however in crossing a path that was on the edge of the cavern. Somehow, this would result in a series of columns marked with Unown symbols appearing while the Gumshoos path across the chasm disappeared. What could this mean?

Luke hesitated. Watching the Gumshoos disappear into the darkness of the tunnel had all kinds of alarm bells going off in his mind. Even Nilly was reflecting his high alert state and wouldn’t be the one to calm him down, exactly. Instead, it would be the Gumshoos who turned back to stare at him for a moment not quite impatiently but with a stem of curiosity. Perhaps the human was afraid of the dark? A paw was raised as she beckoned him further in. Come now, she would stay by your side until your next puzzle, small human thing.
Slowly stepping forward slowly, Luke began to follow her down. Every couple of steps, a torch would light, however, and he found his sights to be lit by it. Oh, this wasn’t too bad, really. “Where are we going?” Luke asked looking at the Gumshoos who only stared ahead. A hard sigh escaped from him at the silence. Guess he wasn’t getting answers any time soon. I can see the light… Nilly commented quietly, excitedly. It’s all around now… Luke looked down at the detector, but since the spike in Ultra Aura, it had not saw fit to beep again aside from its regular low levels. Luke squinted wondering if it was already broken somehow. Ugh, he hoped not.
After a short walk, they came into a large open cavern area that stretched right out in front for yards on end. At the other end, another tunnel awaited them. Luke’s gaze flickered to the Gumshoos, but as she kept walking following a path closest to the wall, he sputtered slightly. “W-wait—“ he skirted to the side only to find the path no longer there. W-what? Even with his shit depth perception, he had seen her walk down something hadn’t he? Luke’s teeth grit as his stomach tightened. The light in here is weird… Nilly commented, and Luke faltered slightly. Looking back over the ridge, he’d see the strange mural written across the walls. Unown?
Several columns dropped out of nowhere, and Luke yelped backing up considerably. Even as they landed in the chasm, he found himself disoriented, confused. What was…. what was that about? Slowly, shakily, he stepped forward again. One… two… three… four? Four new pillars were now sticking up from the darkness at the bottom of the pit, each with a symbol carved in at eye level. A bright confused gaze flickered from one pillar to the next taking in the Unown symbol again and again.
H-E-L-P. HELP. PHEL. HEPL. PEHL. No that was….most definitely HELP. But-? Help? What did that even mean? Luke’s lips pressed together as his nerves twitched under his skin. Taking in a slow breath, he straightened. “Who needs help?” he asked. Suddenly, however, the columns sank down and began rearranging. Luke yelped as the ground under him shook in turn. He might have fallen over had not a lock of hair reached out and seized a back wall to steady Luke. As Luke looked on, however, he would see the pillars had made a bridge across. Someone needs help… Even in this strangely mystical moment, something was perking up in Luke. Alright, he could help.
Be careful.. Nilly warned as Luke slowly came to the edge again. The Nihilego for all it was worth could not sense the bottom of the pit. Falling in was clearly not an option here. Steadying Luke’s legs with as much force as they could offer, they slowly helped him walk from one pillar to the next. Almost there… almost there… Almost….
Coming to the other side, Luke deflated and caught his chest for a moment. Someone needs help… The thought resounded again, and he did his best to pull himself together in the mean time. Whoever it was, he’d help.
Meanwhile, the Gumshoos came out from the darkness again and made a small hand gesture onwards. Looking back up to her, Luke stared for a few seconds before nodding. Alright.

Deeper, deeper, and deeper still, the Gumshoos led Luke until they came to a small well-carved room. On the walls, countless unreadable hieroglyphs likely chronicling some history, but not enough large pictures to gain any context.
In the middle of the room, however, is a pedestal. On the pedestal, an intricate stone with a glowing glyph. At first, this is all there is to be seen, but as Luke gets closer, a discontent presence pervades the air.
Many spirits are bound to this stone, but they are tired and wish to rest. Can Luke figure out what they want, and if so, can he free them?

In rough silence, human, Nihilego, and Gumshoos made their way through the tunnel. Occasionally, Luke’s gaze flickered around drawing over the patterns on the walls as his mind worked over what it had been for in the past and what he was supposed to be doing there now. It’s a test… The thought hit him so profoundly that he tripped. He about smashed his face, but Nilly caught the ground right before bracing him with his hair before allowing him to slowly push up again with his own arms. The Gumshoos stopped briefly to stare back at them before turning once Luke had righted himself again. Grumbling a little frustrated, Luke dusted himself off before following after the Gumshoos again.
Coming to yet another room, Luke found his gaze slowly drawing over the contents. The walls had numerous symbols, forms, and pictures. However, it was the central pedestal with the glowing stone that captivated him. A step closer was given and then another and then another. Before Luke even realized it, he’d closed the distance with the strange glyph. His hands had raised almost ready to touch it before he came to himself again. What— It felt … like it was pulsing? Like he was pulsing…
Help! Help us!
Someone save us!
Free us!
Please!
We’ve done nothing wrong!
Help us! Help us! Help us!
Luke blinked, feeling his single eye watering. Had Nilly’s representation of an ‘eye’ been a true one, he most certainly would have been crying from that too. His stomach tightened, flipping and flopping over itself. Slowly, Luke’s head turned, and he found the Gumshoos staring at him quietly. Could she sense them? Could she feel this.. this anguish? This despair? I can… Nilly’s quiet voice whispered back, and Luke winced slightly. They are lost…. And hurt… and scared… and me… They are like me…. The Nihilego writhed against his skin, and Luke winced on feeling it. Lost and scared and tired… so tired… so tired…. Luke’s hair twisted up and was looping in and around itself. So tired… so scared… so tired… so—
Luke didn’t even realize his body had dropped until he found himself on his knees, a hand clutching his chest. It hurt… it physically mentally hurt. His eye closed, and he took in slow, sharp breaths. I’m lost… I’m tired…. I’m scared. I’m lost. I’m tired. I’m scared. I’m lost. I’m tired. I’m scared. Were these Nilly’s words changing in his head or his own thoughts? He couldn’t tell.
“Why did it have to be me?” Luke gasped out, his voice high, shaky, foreign to his own ears. “Why did anyone choose me?” He was sobbing. One hand clenched on the ground, the other had balled up at his face. “Why do you think I can handle this? Why do you think I should handle this? I’m lost and scared and tired…” He was choking back other thoughts even as they penetrated his mind.
I didn’t ask to be a part of then Eran war. I didn’t ask to be anyone’s doctor. I didn’t ask to be anyone’s keeper. I didn’t ask to be anyone’s savior. I don’t want that… I don’t want it… Hot tears were scalding his cheeks. Every bone in his body seemed to be shaking. “I just want to be weak…” he sobbed again.
An arm met his shoulder. Luke didn’t even register it even as the Gumshoos turned him around and held him to herself. He sobbed against her, and in turn, she pet him gently. Maybe this had been too much for this human— for this thing— Vaguely, she felt guilty for having pushed him too quickly. Clearly, he had skill but not…. The emotional capacity? Poor thing. Perhaps he could rest for a bit.
For a while, Luke only cried. However, slowly but surely his crying staved off, and he retreated far into himself, away from everyone and everything. It was only Nilly that was aware of the world around them still. It was only Nilly who was aware of the Gumshoos slowly picking them up and carrying them out of the tunnel again.
Laying in the strange nest that the Gumshoos had set them in, Nilly stared up at the high sky above. It had no desire to take Luke’s control from him. It had no desire to be the one conscious, but here it was, awake and alive when his fragile mind was not. I have been a burden… It knew that already. It knew from the moment that it had joined look, fused with him, taken up his senses as its own. It knew from the moment it pushed him to do things, from the moment he recoiled after. It knew these things but did not feel regret. Perhaps despair.
<You are not human, are you?> The Gumshoos’s words were audible to the Nihilego. It had come to learn the world’s Pokemon tongue at least in part. Tilting Luke’s head, the Nihilego stared at her with a soft frown. The Gumshoos simply waited.
“I am an Ultra Beast… humans call me Nihilego…” It knew this from Luke but had never considered itself a thing until having met him. “He has allowed me to stay… to share this body until we can find the light… my way home.” The Gumshoos stared and slowly nodded. Nilly looked upwards and sighed.
<I have never seen one of your kind… but your energy is similar to that of the ancient flow….> the Gumshoos commented.
“My presence is parasitic…” was all Nilly would answer back with. “He loses so much by allowing us to remain fused…” His League’s trust. His friend’s lives… His heart. Guilt, anguish, despair. The Nihilego knew all these feelings now. “He does not want to believe but…. is also aware that I may be the cause of his loss of life….” Luke did not want to think about these things. He worked tirelessly, relentlessly, anxiously, in order to carve a path home. Nilly blinked feeling Luke’s eye begin to water. Weakly, a tentacle raised and wiped that eye clean again.
<He is a caring child. I see it in his eye.>
“He cares too much,” Nilly interjected.
The Gumshoos laughed causing Nilly’s eye to flick sideways at her. <This world is filled with so many like that…> A soft sigh escaped from the Gumshoos. <When his mind awakes…. Please let him know I apologize for putting such an monuments task upon him. My intent was to challenge… not break….>
Nilly closed both eyes, and a slow sigh escaped from it. Reaching back into Luke’s mind, it waited for him to regain consciousness again.

Luke? Luke’s gaze slowly flickered open. His head was throbbing, and he felt vaguely nauseous now. Slowly sitting up, he’d find himself in a pile of soft leaves and soil. In the corner of the chamber, the Gumshoos was fumbling with something. Looking over her shoulder briefly, she smiled a bit (not that it could easily be seen), and turned back around to walk with a large leaf filled with water for him. Luke blinked slowly for a moment, but as the leaf was presented to him, he took it and took a slow, uncertain sip.
The water was sweet, and he’d drink the rest before finally coughing up the lung that was apparently trying to climb up out of his chest. The Gumshoos shifted and pat his back until he stopped. Rubbing his face slowly after, Luke groaned. “Someone was… they were…” Thoughts came back in a flurry, and Luke’s gaze flickered up to the Gumshoos again. “Those were people weren’t they?” he stammered. The Gumshoos winced and nodded slowly. Luke’s stomach did a flip flop, and he folded in on himself some. The cold, clammy, nauseous feeling had not quite left him for good. The Gumshoos says she’s sorry for putting you through that… Nilly commented quietly. Luke’s arms slowly slacked, his eyes focused downward.
“I need to help them…” Luke spoke, his voice tired and shaky.
Luke please rest… The Nihilego implored. You don’t have to help everyone… you don’t have to hurt yourself for just anyone…. Please stop… please… The Nihilego was writhing against his skin, and a shiver rushed through Luke. I do not wish to see you hurt by others anymore— myself included… please stop… The tone Nilly used was jarring, and for a few seconds, Luke didn’t move.
He knew… he knew he had to help everyone, to do everything for everyone. He had to make sure Orion was healthy. He had to keep an eye on Jazz. He had to keep an eye on the interns and work with the other professors. He had to be the first responder to calls about the Chroma cookie. He was the expert in that, after all. But… But…. it was… also so much… so much more than that… Luke’s eye watered immediately, and he reached up to rub it.
“I know… Nill…” he spoke aloud causing the Gumshoos to look up as well. “I know it’s not healthy…. I know it’s not what makes me happy… I know… I know…. But if I can’t… if I can’t help people… if I can’t do this much for someone … if I can’t……” He choked back a sob that boiled over in the back of his throat. “I need to……” He was crying again, quieter than his heavy sobs before. “Who am I if not? Who… who am I if I can’t….”
Memories, too horrendous and painful to deal with on a daily basis came to the forefront of his mind. He was back in Era, desperately working to save a dying soldier. He was in Era, unable to save a dying mother. He was in Era, watching as blood stained his hands for no reason. No matter what he did. No matter what he tried. He couldn’t do anything for anyone…. “I’m scared…. And hurt… and lost…. And I can’t even… begin to ….” He was pulling at the locks of hair that Nilly attached itself to. He was pressing finger nails passed Nilly’s membrane into his temples. He was the urge to scream as loudly as the screams in his head reverberated.
Nilly had no answers. It didn’t even know where to begin. Even with Luke’s memories, even with observational information, even with everything, it had no idea how to help— or what to say. The Gumshoos had shifted again and was slowly easing Luke’s hands away from the sides of his head and from hi shair. She encouraged him to lay down again, and as much as he didn’t want to, he found it pressed upon him.
I don’t want to feel like this… The thought rolled around in Luke’s head over and over and over again. I’m not lost… I’m not… broke. I’m not a mess. I’m a rational, reasonable human being….
Debatably… Nilly’s sarcasm had Luke blikning surprised for a few seconds. It is not just my fault that you …… act the way you do sometimes… Was that…. A hint of bitterness? Luke grimaced and rolled onto one side.
I’m— He knew it wasn’t entirely Nilly. He knew… that even with their power to augment things, his feelings were still his own… just buried and mixed up and mashed up. Sorry…. I know… I’m…. sorry…. I didn’t mean to make you a scape goat for…. For all this… His teeth grit, and he gulped slightly. I … I don’t think I’d… be feeling quite the same if you weren’t here, but… but I know it would have just… festered probably…
Nilly sighed deep inside. You are a good human… but you are human none the less…. Nilly commented. A small puff of air escaped from Luke. Yeah, he guessed that was true.
For about an hour, they conversed like that, going over numerous and varied topics, some related some not. After that, however, Luke slowly sat up. I want to try again… Nilly winced but would not ask him to stop now. Instead, they would find the Gumshoos, and she would lead them back to the room again. Slowly walking forward, Luke set his hands on the tablet again.
He could hear them, feel them, practically see them. So many, many souls tied up in this stone. How they had not become a Spiritomb, he couldn’t know. However, as he slowly began to talk to them, slowly began to recognize them, and slowly began to sooth them, he’d feel presences leave …. Here and there… one at a time or together…. Until none were elft. The glyph in his hands was empty, and he slowly set it on the pedestal again.
Looking back to the Gumshoos, he found her smiling.

Perhaps the boy had not been broken after all. Perhaps he only needed to lie down and rest. Sleep was good for most creatures, after all. Gumshoos was far beyond pleased. She was deeply relieved. She had challenged very few humans in her time here, but more than one, and none had passed that particular test. Some passed enough other challenges to show their worth regardless, but only Luke had been able to finally send those spirits on their journey. She could sleep easier knowing they would finally be at peace. Others had gone through numerous challenges more after attempting this, but with Luke, she needed to see no more. She moved closer, cautiously, and put a paw on his shoulder. Then, a few moments later, she drew him into a gentle hug. She'd hold him for at least 10 seconds if he let her, and when they parted, he signaled him to follow her once more. This journey would take longer, through tighter wound halls almost like a maze, a final measure of defense against those who would intrude without permission. Through this trek, some sounds would begin to echo in the distance, and as they journeyed farther, they'd pass by small areas where other Pokemon seemed to be going about their day. Perhaps they simply lived her in the ruins, or perhaps they would have been attacking had Luke not been led by Gumshoos. There was no real way to tell. Deeper and deeper, they entered a very long narrow hall, walking until another sound called their attention. Something growing louder, was that-- stone on stone? In the dark behind, a boulder became visible, heading right toward them! But with Gumshoos standing still in the path ahead, just looking at it, Luke couldn't move!? It-- was probably actually smaller than her but it could still crush them at that spee--........ The boulder stopped and popped out his arms and legs. The Golem offered a sheepish apologetic look to both before he and the Gumshoos traded a few words, and he nodded and rolled right back up the way they came. Finally, just down this hall, they came to a small chamber with more explanatory images on the walls. The Gumshoos would point them out in order as they showed how energy moved through trainer and Pokemon during a Z-Move. When Luke had seen that, she brought him to one last chamber, almost round and far larger. Eighteen pedestals stood perfectly spaced around the edges of the room, most holding a single small crystal of varying colors. Three were empty, spoils given to others she'd deemed worthy. Above all eighteen, there were different images of humans dancing, showing the steps to perform that type's Z-Move. Gumshoos showed them to Luke, pointing to the first, the Normal move, and stepping into the center of the chamber. She mimicked the movements on the wall above the crystal, then stepped aside and gestured to Luke and the center. She'd like him to perform all 18 dances, and when he has finished, she will present him with the crystal that she believes resonates best with his performance.

Something in Luke had shifted. Nilly could feel it, but even it could not tell exactly what. He seemed calmer, more collected, softer even, but it was more than that? As if perhaps a weight had been lifted off his shoulders in turn. Even as they journeyed further inward, he seemed to move at a slightly different pace alongside the Gumshoos.
Luke still very much startled as the body of the Golem came rolling down. He’d frozen, but Nilly’s tentacles had jerked up slightly— at least until the Pokemon stopped. A slow, weird breath escaped from Luke, and a hand reaches to his chest to calm it after. He watched the Golem and Gumshoos speak before following after her again.
Human and Nihilego eyes raised in unison as they came to the small chamber, reflecting over the forms and figures on the walls. This was… he had seen this before in Alola but never learned it. It was really here in Veria too? His eyes flickered to the Gumshoos, and again he recognized her size as similar to that of Totem Pokemon. Wordlessly, he followed on.
As they came to the last room, Luke found his gaze rolling around slowly. The Gumshoos’s motions, however, would catch his eye right after. Z moves… Yes, that was what they were, wasn’t it? He’d seen them before offhandedly from trainers but …. Again, his gaze swept around, and slowly he understood what she was asking of him. Hesitantly, he came to the center of the room as she had done. Both arms raised and flowed as he performed the first dance. The Gumshoos set a paw to her jaw. A small gesture after that, had him beckoning to go on.
With great hesitation now that the Gumshoos was not showing him the exact motions, Luke began to do the Fire move. There was something about it that made his face warm a little, but the Gumshoos’s nod in assurance had him continue forward. He liked the way the Water one flowed, but perhaps Nilly was growing a little bored and wanted in on the action as well for his locks of hair raised ever so slightly. The Gumshoos chuckled but continued to watch. It was as he clasped his hands together and thrust them up with the movement of the Grass power that the Gumshoos would smile a little harder. She would wait, watching him try each one in his own way.
Luke wasn’t quite fluid enough to make the Electric one impressive, but she nodded none the less. He felt almost silly doing the Psychic one, and warmth did come to his features on that. The lock of Ice was pretty nice, yes. The claw motions of Dragon had a bit of flare to them now that he was growing confident. Darkness and Fighting were about the same in motions. The Flying one had Nilly’s imput again. Poison was … something, and Ground and Rock too… As he finished up the Bug, Ghost, Steel, and Fairy motions, however, it was still pretty clear what one was for him. The Gumshoos nodded a bit to herself coming to stand at the pedestal with the Grassium Z in front of her. A small hand gesture was given, and Luke paused before slowly stepping forward. “For me?” he didn’t really have to ask. She smiled and gave a nod.
