What is this feeling? A sense of looming dread, surrounded by hope. Despair eclipsed by a sense of accomplishment. This foreboding sense of simultaneous defeat and triumph. A sign of what lay ahead, and what may be put to rest. Pulling on a new pair of white, insulated gloves, Rikkan would find himself preparing for the inevitable. He had put it off long enough... There was an Ice gym in Aleal, and it was time to challenge it. Rikkan wasn't normally one to take a hard advantage into battle, but Rune and Azria had been pining for a challenge for a long time, and he had yet to fight with Bertha at all ever since reuniting with her. No doubt this gym leader had some kind of counter for fire types though. Not that he didn't have his own countermeasure for that. "Alright, Bertha..... Let's see what you've learned all those years."--- At the Ice gym, the sound of a motor would become increasingly louder as Rikkan pulled up on his bike, slowing down as he approached the courtyard outside of it. Here he was, the Verian League Ice Gym of Aleal. Of course it would be in the coldest inhabited region of Veria. Swinging his leg over the seat, Rikkan would dismount the bike and pull out a pokeball as he headed through the courtyard. Opening the ball, an Arcanine would appear beside him, immediately shaking out his fur and releasing heat near him. This protective layer of heat would only last so long, however, as Rune wouldn't be sticking by his side for this battle. Instead, Rune would get his first taste of combat in some time. Wintry SuspenseRune would keep pace with his trainer, but his usual grin was replaced by a serious stare, fully aware of what lay in wait for him, eager to reach the event. They would reach the doors without further ado, the Ranger opening one wordlessly. He would enter into an interestingly familiar setup. It almost seemed to be inspired by a Pokemon Center's waiting room, which was likely the case, as both center and gym are League funded. The secretary would direct him toward the field in the back, where he and Rune would head to. The field was interestingly bare, save for the simple necessities, as well as some benches for spectators. He hadn't brought any friends along, though, so he wouldn't be needing them. Staring out across the field, he wondered what the gym leader here was like... Made by Maelys

Aleal Ice Gym – AreaThe latest challenger of the gym would not even have to wait moments; she was itching for a fight just as much as he was, and she heard him coming, watching him from a window just to make sure that he was coming in. Aurora was already waiting for him in the battlefield, barely standing out from the snow and ice thanks to her clothes, but as soon as the challenger took his place on the field, she put a hand to her heart, waving that heart towards him in a warm Aleal greeting. “Welcome, challenger, to the Aleal City Ice Gym. I’m Aurora, and I’m glad you could come.” Her warm smile turned into a determined smirk before continuing. “I’ve been itching for a fight. I hope you’ll provide one!” She adjusted her coat, looking over at the side of the field, smiling as the judge took his position, reaching into her coat and pulling out a Great Ball throwing it high into the air. It opened, releasing in a gush of blue light, a white, woolly crab Pokémon, which slammed down on four legs onto the battlefield, roughly enough that Aurora could hear the ice under it break. She didn’t pay it much mind, though; there was plenty of that to go around. “You ready, Rime?!” Aurora yelled out to her Pokémon, and he cried out, opening and closing his mitten-like claws as the judge looked over to the challenger, waiting for him to release his Pokémon before hoisting his flags up and yell, “Let the battle commence!”

His gaze met the gym leader's for a moment. As he stepped up to the challenger's box, she would react with a greeting, welcoming him to her gym, plus a bit of a taunt. Excellent, someone who's down for a challenge. Rik is definitely going to enjoy this one. "Rune, you and Bertha are up." With a grin, the Arcanine would step forward as Rikkan pulled out another pokeball, Rune's paw slipping a bit on the icy surface, causing the wolf to glance down in alarm. "Claws. Keep low to the ground, move your momentum forward and down, don't float too much." The Arcanine would nod in agreement, his claws suddenly extending outward, digging into the icy floor as he stepped forward onto the field.
As the judge started to signal the beginning of the match, Rikkan held up his hand. "Hold on. Your receptionist said that doubles is an option." He held up the other ball in his hand, keeping an eye on the gym leader. "My pokemon prefer to fight side by side, guard each other's back. Is this alright?" The sooner Bertha got to fighting alongside the rest of his team, the sooner she would add to its effectiveness. A fighting team is only as effective as the bonds between its members. Made by Maelys

Aleal Ice Gym – AreaAurora blinked when the challenger paused the match. She was taken aback a little by the Fire-type, but she had expected that – after all, Fire was the traditional counter against Ice, even though the type was weak to a fair amount of things. The thing that caught her was him stopping the match to hold up his other Poké Ball. She looked over at the judge in surprise, then smiled as he shrugged and did the same. Looking back to the challenger, Aurora responded, “Of course it is, I love a good double battle! It’s fun and it’s great practice for teamwork!”She reached into her pocket, pulling out another Ball, revealing it as a Dive Ball when she clicked the button to expand it to its full size, tossing it into the air. A light blue, split between much smaller bits, spinning around the revealed Pokémon before disappearing, leaving a Dewgong to land gently in the snow, twisting with surprising grace as she let out a few cries. Aurora smiled as she caught the returning Dive Ball, putting it away and smiling gleefully at her opponent. This time, the judge waited for Rikkan’s signal before announcing the battle officially, letting Aurora motion towards Rikkan, waiting for his opening move. Aleal City Ice Gym - Battle!

"Thanks. Alright Bertha, here we go."
Rikkan tossed the pokeball into the air, and as it opened, a beam of light would slam down to the ice, revealing a hefty Magmortar. She would open her eyes, gazing across the field at the opponent, a grin slowly widening on her face. Pulling her arm across her chest and lifting a foot, she would swing it back around, stomping down her foot with a loud roar, turning her arm toward the opponents, ready for battle. This Magmortar was pretty large for its kind, and numerous scars adorned her body, some more visible than others. "Remember what I told you, Bertha." The Magmortar gave a nod, signaling her understanding.
"If you're ready then. Let the battle commence!"
"Bertha, set us up." The Magmortar quickly aimed her arm up to the sky, blasting out a large yellow orb that would fly up above the field, stopping about thirty feet above center field, expanding into a fairly large orb of heat and light. As Bertha used Sunny Day, Rikkan would snap a finger, and Rune was immediately off and running. It took the Arcanine a moment to get a good grip with his claws, but the rigid ice wouldn't prove too much of a difficulty, especially with his trainer's advice. Rune's target was the Crabominable, rushing toward it recklessly, leaping at it at the last moment with a harsh Close Combat,
Meanwhile, that Dewgong would certainly prove to be an issue. Even with Sunny Day, its powerful water moves could devastate his fire types. The sooner they could handicap it, the better. "Bertha, cloud the Dewgong, then wisp it. I don't want it hanging around too long." With a nod, the Magmortar would rear back before throwing an inky blob toward the Dewgong, hitting the ground just in front of it and releasing a billowy, dark cloud of smoke. She would then hold out her arm, small red embers beginning to appear around her before flying towards the Dewgong in an attempt to burn it.

Aleal City Ice Gym - Battle!Aurora smirked softly at the sight of another Fire-type Pokémon. It wasn’t a surprise, honestly, and in fact, it was a little bit disappointing that he went straight for Fire-types. But then, she’d have to get used to it, wouldn’t she? Besides, she had more than a few ideas to take care of Fire-types. Her eyes launched up with the ball of light that ‘Bertha’ fired into the air. Sunny Day... that would make things a little more difficult, but that was expected, too – after all, most trainers would know that Ice-types were more powerful when it was Hailing, so it would make sense to get rid of that right off the bat. Her attention was caught by Arcanine suddenly scrambling, giving her just enough warning as the Arcanine charged in recklessly to yell out an order. “Slide away with Drain Punch!” Rime let out a cry of recognition before slamming his fist against the ground. He might be slow when it came to walking, but he was pretty speedy when he slid, using his momentum to continually keep out of the Arcanine’s reach. But then, Drift was suddenly surrounded with smoke, Aurora’s split attention seeing the spewing coming forth. At first, she was caught off guard, her Pokémon yelling out in surprise, but then she heard Rikkan’s order, and she smirked. “Status infliction incoming!” The white-blue flames of Will-O-Wisp rushed through the smoke, disappearing within, and at the same time, her Crabominable glittered gently, as if the light had caught his white fur like snow. Ignoring the worry that she had cried out just a little too late, Aurora ordered, “Wet the field, then start making some pillars!”From out of the smoke, great splashes of water cascaded over the field, almost like a rain, just a few steps above very energetic splashing. Then, the smoke finally dispersed when Drift unleashed an attack, a frigid beam of cold shaped like three interlocked beams, first firing between Rime and Rune, suddenly creating a pillar between them, a barrier, separating the two. But then, she continued, firing repeatedly, causing very thick ice pillars seemingly at random. - Crabominable used Drain Punch to slide away from Close Combat. While hidden by smoke, Dewgong used Safeguard, protecting against Will-O-Wisp, and then Water Sport, then used Ice Beam, creating thick pillars around the field and putting some space between Arcanine and Crabominable.

As Aurora gave her orders, Rikkan watched how her pokemon underwent them. So the crab pokemon was using the ice to skate around... Is it unable to move quickly on its own? Perhaps Rune should switch gears then. The Arcanine slowed down, managing to keep his grip on the icy floor, waiting to see what his own orders are. "Rune, hit it hard and fast." With a nod, Rune's claws dug down into the ice as he lunged forward, suddenly vanishing in a burst of speed, reappearing once more right in front of the Crabominable, dashing toward it with an Aerial Ace.
This crab pokemon could become a problem if it stayed out too long, as well. Drain Punch would give it decent sustain, even though Rik had no pokemon that it was strong against. On the other side of the field, it seemed that the Dewgong was also putting some space between Bertha and itself. Bad move, Bertha's specialty is long range, and this Dewgong would soon realize this. As the Will-o-Wisp would have collided with the Dewgong, a shimmering barrier would suddenly light up for a brief moment around the crab pokemon, a telling sign of a status power. This Dewgong might be a little more trouble than he had anticipated.
"Bertha... You got this." The Magmortar would roll her head around before stepping forward, arm out at the ready. "MAAAAA!!" With a shout, a torrent of flames would erupt from Bertha's arm cannon, engulfing the ice pillar that stood before her. The humid air dampening the flames would conflict with the heat being poured out by the sun orb above the battlefield, negating the dampening effect, although the opposite could also be said. Either way, it didn't take long for the icy pillar to be little more than an icy stump, Bertha pulling her arm back as the Dewgong was once again in view.
"Check." Bertha leveled her arm cannon at the Dewgong, a whitish energy charging within her arm as the sun orb began to brighten slightly, feeding energy to Bertha's attack. Within seconds, the Solar Beam was fully charged, and the beam of white solar energy would blast toward the opponent.

Aleal City Ice Gym - Battle!Aurora, despite her back being pushed to the proverbial wall, was smirking. Her back may have been set against the wall, but she was slowly building thigs up to be her advantage. "Iron Defense!" She yelled out one of the two moves that would help Rime's defenses, and she was legitmately making an educated guess on which one, based on the fact that Arcanine was famous for its running speed. Thankfully, though, that turned out to be the right one, and just a hair's breath from being struck by Arcanine's attack, Rime crossed his arms defensively, a metallic sheen gleaning over his body in a wave. He took the attack, and with his increased defense, took the attack tremendously well, so well that he moved his arms down and laughed at Rune - playfully, of course. "Counter with Crabhammer!" Rime, while not too fast with moving around the field, was plenty fast enough as he reared a fist back, opening his claw to let water pour out and bubble his fist, swinging it forward towards his opponent. The Gym Leader turned her eye towards the Magmortar as it charged Solar Beam, but she only smiled, smirked even. The Solar Beam fired, the sideways pillar of light streaking across the field... but Drift was sitting behind one of the several ice pillars on the field. The Solar Beam hit it, and then, with a roar, suddenly split; the sunlight-fueled beam suddenly refracted, splitting into several, much smaller beams shooting across the field, their strength splitting with it. Some of them even hit a few other ice pillars, refracting even more, and creating a beautiful display of light. Of course, Solar Beam was more than simply life, and the main ice pillar melted considerably, but it was more than enough to defend Drift. While the massive beam was roaring, though, Aurora yelled, "Drill Run at your target!" Drift suddenly sped out from the pillar, her body spinning so fast that she was hovering above the ground as she shot towards the Magmortar, but even as she flew speedily, she zigged and zagged, making sure she was a toucgh target to hit as she flew towards Magmortar, trying to get close. As Drift flew in, Aurora's eyes darted up, and she thought, "Just a little longer...."- Water Sport [2/4] Safeguard [2/5]Crabominable Defense +2 Crabominable used Iron Defense, taking Aerial Ace, then used Crabhammer! Dewgong blocked Solar Beam with an ice pillar, then used Drill Run!
