Orion snickered softly at Sera's words. He'd been about to say something about being there a little big early and not wanting to mess with the machines later, but Sera's pun had him snorting even harder. If you only knew-
Setting the bag down on the side, he stepped up onto the bad and stretched both arms slowly. His long legs would make hitting the buttons pretty easy, yeah? Let's see, one to the side then that side, then forward, yeah not hard- he told himself, anyways. Heh~? He… almost really did want to start with heavy and go downwards, but the thought of losing the game just because of that wasn't as appealing a thought~ "Let's try light and go from there," he answered dialing it back to light for now and then pressing the button.
The song started up pretty easily, but the actual pad directions would take another ten seconds to actually flow onto screen and then upwards. Right foot, right foot, left foot, left foot, front, back, right again. Yeah, this wasn't too hard since they were rather evenly spaced and hardly fast yet. Rather quickly, Orion had the first pattern down. How much longer to the second one, he wasn't sure. "Awh, maybe I should have set it to hard~" he teased a bit.

Sera found Light mode doable enough, as well. The steps were well paced, and the song had a fast enough tempo to keep it from being too dull. (Or worse, she'd found a few songs in the past so slow that it made them harder to time, because her usual sense of not wanting to miss them was swapped out for having to wait so much longer for them to reach the mark.)
At the end... it seemed Orion had actually done a bit better than her?? ...W-well, he was kind of big and bulky and once or twice his movements kind of got in her way. She hadn't thought it too bad but clearly it threw her off. (Or he was just more generally athletic than her and it gave him a slight edge in terms of agile movements but sssshhh.) Trying not to let the tinge of color on her face be too obvious, she decided to move forward, selecting a mode up even as she spoke.
"That was a pretty good warmup, yeah? Let's-- see what we can do here. Yeah." And give herself another chance to do better than him. What did you mean the combined score was the important part? She still wanted her contribution to be higher, okay?
The steps on this mode were much more erratic and came faster, but at the same time went with the music a little more faithfully in a way, huh? Once Sera realized the pattern, she managed to work up a sweat in the process but was able to follow along, landing a decent score.

As the next song started up and the faster beat hit his ears, Orion found it easier to keep up with mentally but harder to keep in step with. Like Sera, he figured out the pattern pretty quick, but it was keeping up with it that was harder. His legs wanted to move a certain way that just slowed down his overall reactions, and what no he wasn't a little bit frustrated with this no not at all. Gritting his teeth and focusing more on the steps than the sound, he found it easier to follow. His score would still be less than Sera's this round, and what no he wasn't a little bit irritated in response. "You're a lot more agile than you let on," he mused a bit after the fact.

Uh oh, someone isn't happy to have their high score debunked. Rather angry looking yet intimidating pair of dancers have been watching Sera and Orion play the game and claim it's 'beginner's luck' that they managed to beat their score. The pair challenge Sera and Orion to a dance off in which the winner is decided by the crowd that is slowly gathering. Time to add some flair to those dance moves and prove that it wasn't luck that earned the high score. 500 Words

Sera almost tripped at the end, and was left a little breathless, and swore Orion was just Too Big for this game and vaguely verging on being in her way and mildly irritating her in the process. But she was glad they did so well, and his compliment did have her grinning. "Thanks. You're not so bad yourself~"
Then came the apparent former high score holders.
Sera could hardly believe what she was hearing. Were these kids serious? How old even were they...? "...Kid," she replied dryly. "It's... Dance Dance Revolution. You know it's not.. like... actual dancing, right?"
The boy in the pair sneered. "Maybe not to some n00bs like you."
Sera blinked slowly. "...I'm a professional performer. I took second place in the Liggs Star Festival." Which was, like, the biggest contest she'd seen in the past year at least?? And a prominent recurring event as well. Like, surely if these kids had any real interest in dance they'd have at least heard of it even if contests weren't their main interest.
"But have you ever won first?" he jeered.
Sera's face went furiously red. Astrid's appeal had not earned the points it got, and she was never going to get over it. It occurred to her belatedly that the irritation the kids had toward them was probably not helping Sera's mood. "...Orion?" she asked, as calm as she could feign. "Why don't you go first." The game could only accommodate two dancers at a time, after all. So Orion vs one of them, then Sera vs the other, and possibly alternating a few rounds.

Orion stretched, about to suggest they try the advanced setting next just to see, but before anything went down, the pair of 'dancers' came over. SNORT. Orion could not keep his face straight at the sheer amount of anger that he was getting back? The way in which they both puffed up at Sera's insistence and the sharp rebuttal thereafter was hilarious??? He was very much snickering even as Sera was defending her title as a performer, but he became aware of just how red her face went right after that. Oh yeah, sore spot eh?
Before Orion could comment, however, it was suggested he go first. One yellow eye flickered closed, and he actually debated for a moment whether to entertain this dumb shit to begin with, but there seemed to be more than a couple of kids crowding around now. Wasn't like he could just walk away, yeh? "I guess," he answered surprisingly apathetically before shifting back up to the platform again. The young girl who climbed up on the 'stage' next to him gave a glare and then started messing with the settings for herself. Orion stared for a moment before snorting softly and waiting. Sure, sure, choose what you want kiddo.
As the music started playing, Orion mentally groaned. Wasn't this that meme song that had been on and off the radio for months now? Eh, at least it had something of a regular beat. One foot hit the right pad then the left, forward, back, shift forward step, back, yeah this wasn't hard. It was only when the murmuring of the kids started to become loud and whispering did Orion's eyes flicker over to his 'competition'. The girl was very much throwing as much flare and shift into her step that she could. Oh, lovely. That was half the battle wasn't it? Her choice of song suddenly made so much more sense, but heh it did nothing but piss him off<3
There was no way in which he could match that kind of flare, and he wasn't near invested in this to want to try. Still, every step did get a little more fluid, and yeah he did just bend his knees and stretch out a bit more to take up more of this 'stage' and ebb that girl a little into the corner. She was clearly frustrated, but he was very much amused all over again. When the song ended, he had won the steps, but she'd very much won the crowd's attention. Hah, whatever yeah?

"You call that dancing!?" jeered the kid who would be Sera's opponent. "My partner was loads better!" Two or three of the impromptu audience members exclaimed their agreement, and for just a moment Sera wanted to get angry. Fortunately, she was also feeling pretty pumped, mostly from absorbing that feeling from some of them. It helped her stay calm, and she shrugged flippantly, a very confident smile on her face.
"The scoreboard says otherwise," she noted calmly.
The kid frowned. "The score's not everything. It was a dance-off, not a step-off!"
Maybe you should 'step off', Sera thought but kept that to herself. "True enough," she agreed. "But unfortunately, dancing involves precise steps, and your partner was so preoccupied with flailing about that their footwork suffered for it." The partner in question bristled, and Sera gave them a 'sad but true' look. "Anyone can take a bath in glitter and pull a crowd's attention, but it doesn't mean they have skill."
There were a few contemplative murmurs and a few 'oooooooOOH!'s in the crowd, and Sera smirked. "My friend here is way out of his element and still beat you. But let's see how we do in mine~"
The kid huffed fiercely. "Why don't you put your money where your mouth is!"
Sera quirked a brow. "Are you suggesting we gamble in an arcade?" Wait actually...
"...50 Tokens," said the kid. Pfff, okay.
"Well then. If we're making a whole thing of it... We should have mascots, I think," she blatantly bullshitted as an excuse to release her Blaziken. A quick telepathic explanation was shoved at him, and he nodded once quietly.
"Okay??" The kid didn't see to care too much, but released a Toxicroak to be their own mascot and cheerleader.
The music finally started, and a hush fell over the crowd to help them get in the zone. When the steps started, Sera went through the first stanza of lyrics with a bounce in her step but little added flare, hitting every note but not building much hype. What she was doing instead, though, was drawing them into a false sense of security, and practicing her timing, and her mental synchronization.
Having gotten a feel for the rhythm of the song, the second stanza had her suddenly breaking out more emphatic upper body movements, still getting the footing nearly as well as before, though occasionally she'd misjudge how long a bigger step would take. The kid was doing well enough, but Sera wasn't done.
After the first chorus, she began adding some minor turns and head movements to her flow. Wait, was she not looking at the screen?
Up. Down. UpUpUp, LeftRightLeft, Down. Flash watched the screen on her behalf, telepathically sending her commands with as much precision as he could.
The second chorus hit, and Sera turned her back to the screen, even more bounce entering her movements as she danced for the crowd to the rhythm of the song. She blew them a few kisses, incited them to cheer along with her, and by the end, the kid caught sight of what she was doing and turned to stare, dumbstruck, enough that they missed a few steps at the end.
Sera's score was actually only a few points higher, and if anyone looked close her opponent had more Perfect steps while Sera's were mostly Great, but she'd landed more overall, and the crowd loved her. Turning to the kid, she grinned bright. "Beginner's luck~?" she sang.

Orion rolled his eyes at the arguments from the kid and the crowd. Least Sera seemed to handle it well enough. A small snort did pass his nose as he mentioned glitter and crowd attention, though. That was very true, and he commented as such right after her. He might have winced a little at Sera’s words, but yeah that was true too. Dancing wasn’t quite his thing was it? Heh.
The bet that came thereafter had Orion perking just a bit. His inner gambling spirit egged on the possibility of ‘rewards’, and he’d be lying if he said he wasn’t a little more invested than he had been before. His brow quirked as she released a ‘mascot’ but guessed she was just getting really into this???
The flow with which Sera moved had Orion shifting his stance some. She was…. really good at this, wasn’t she? And…. and not even looking at the screen for some of it??? Did she already know this song? Wow she could really catch the group now couldn’t she? Orion even had to admit he was more than a little impressed, and his hands may have raised up to clap a few times for her in turn. Her insistence and question thereafter had him snickering at the poor sap who had challenged her. Well, clearly they had a winner now didn’t they?

After having been debunked again, the pair of dancers seem to be even more livid than before. It had to have been a fluke, there was no way that they could have lost to n00bs twice! Time to take the dance off outside without the game pad's restrictions to prove that there was more skill than luck. Dancers will pair up with a partner Pokemon to win this dance battle where the crowd decides who is the winner. Don't be afraid to use the Pokemon's moves to your advantage. 550 Words

"You wanna what?" Sera could hardly believe her ears.
"You heard me!" her opponent insisted. "DDR isn't real dancing anyway! At best it's just footwork practice." Y...es?? that was.. very literally one hundred percent of the entire reason she and Orion had even been here but okay kid go off she guessed.
"So you think you'd do any better without it, or...?"
"There's no way you could've pulled that off without having memorized the song!" they insisted, apparently having decided this to dismiss their earlier moment of awe. Sera rolled her eyes, almost tempted to flat out tell them they picked the wrong kind of cheating to accuse her of, but of course she wouldn't actually do it.
"You said you're a Coordinator? So pick a Pokémon and let's do this! Double or nothing on our bet!"
Sera blinked slowly. ...Okay, if they wanted to get swindled out of more money, who was she to stop them? "Orion?" She turned to look up to him. "Wha'd'you think? You up for it?" Admittedly, she did worry just a tad that he might hold her back, but these kids did seem pretty cocky, too. Hopefully they weren't as good as they thought they were, and Orion would come through enough that as a team they could still wipe the floor with the both of them.

Orion stood there deadpan. These kids really didn’t know when to quit, did they? They were so very impassioned, and he just.. could not work up that kind of vigorous energy at that point. Somewhere in the back of his mind, he was tempted to tell them to fuck off or he’d snap them like the twigs they were but ehhh... That too required more passion and energy than he had for this situation heh.
At the second round of challenging, however, Orion’s brow quirked a bit. Yellow eyes flickered sideways to Sera as she spoke before flickering forward again to these kids. Actually, heh. He knew a certain someone who liked to ‘dance’ and would probably fuck up everything and everyone if they so chose and…. Man he might have actually been snickering at that point. “I wouldn’t mind taking it off the pad…” he answered slowly reaching to his numerous zipper jeans to pull out a special Pokeball. Enlarging the sphere with a gold design on it, he released the beast that was Mr. Fish into the area.
The female dancer squeaked stepping back startled by the sight of what was very much a hideous monster to numerous persons even within the Pokemon world. Mr. Fish, however, twirled about and then flew towards the pair, flashing their circular maw before spiraling back around to Orion and leaning hard against him. The latter chuckled softly, reaching to scratch and pet the massive beast that was his partner Pokemon. “Ready when you are,” he mused to the female dancer.
The latter seemed to stare for a minute or so looking from Orion to the Eelektross and then back again as if unsure if this was a joke or not. “Uhm.. I’m gonna need a moment….” She answered looking to her human dance partner. “You wanna go first?”

Sera grinned nervously as Orion's Eelektross was released. On one hand, FISHIE! On the other, this monster eel had literally taken a bit out of her boyfriend lol. But she was aware enough from Niso and Nik that Mr. Fish was Orion's favorite partner and might need to put a few finishing touches on their plush version later for a certain upcoming holiday, and she felt like Nik might have said something about his Gardevoir liking to dance with them? Though she might be mixing up which of Orion's Pokémon that was. Hopefully she was right, though, and this would go smoothly.
She considered countering the girl's request, or asking to switch opponents, so that she could end on a high note, but... Ah, she guessed she wasn't actually all that invested when she really thought about it. If anything they were probably accidentally hustling these kids so giving them an edge couldn't hurt too much. If they lost, she'd just have Niso pay Orion back for his tokens and quietly blame it on him rather than take it as indicative of her own lack of skill, heh.
"You up for it or what?" her opponent taunted. Sera didn't miss the slight fear in their eyes when they flicked to Mr. Fish, but she just shrugged and smiled.
"Sure, we can go first."
They nodded, and everyone headed just outside the front door to give the dancers room to perform. Once the crowd finished transfering and spreading out, they declared, "All right, so me and Toxicroak versus you and Blaziken!"
Sera considered it a moment, but shook her head. "Nah. I could dance with Flash, but..." On a mental queue, the two moved in sync, dancing a few steps with him twirling her about before dipping her, swooping her up, and shifting her up to his shoulder. Sera sat there a moment, smiling down at the kid. "It's too easy when your partner is humanoid~ So how about..." As Flash set her down, she released her Fennekin, Leyara.
"...O-okay, whatever." Sera grinned wickedly; they looked annoyed, but she could feel them starting to grow nervous, and the crowd's excitement was coursing through her. "Someone in the crowd, give us a song!"
A few volunteers cropped up until it was settled on a particular cut of the song Die Young. Sera absolutely hardcore cheated once again, giving Leyara mental instructions to keep them in sync. In her defense, choreographing in real time was still a carefully honed skill, and Leyara's love of dancing another skill to allow her to follow those instructions with precision. But as the tiny fox pranced about around and under and across Sera, it soon became clear they had an edge the kid and the Toxicroak simply didn't.
As the song ended, both struck poses with their partners, Leyara flipping through the air to land on Sera's back. Cheers of "SE-RA! FEY-NA!" declared a clear winner, and as her opponent finally started backing down, she winked to Orion. "Keep up the momentum~"

Mr. Fish watched Sera and the boy’s performance with a rather curious interest. How strange! How interesting? 8V They kinda wanted to take a bite of both the Toxicroak and the Fennekin to see which one tasted better, but alas Orion’s hand was on their back fin assuring them that they couldn’t right then! Oh well! Hissssss! What wonderful performancessssssss!!!!!
Orion, meanwhile, was settling watching the motions go down. Sera was as fluid before, and he had to wonder if she just… choreographed and practiced a lot of songs with a lot of Pokemon or what to be that generally skillful, heh. As the song finished, and it was clear who had won, he smirked looking back over to the girl who was patting down her Mighty- WHAT A GOOD BOY. Orion was immediately enamored and couldn’t help but grin on seeing such a friendly friend. He almost wanted to walk over and pet the good boy but had at least some reserve not to.
Someone had enough sense to start up another song, but The Cab’s Endlessly was certainly not conventional dance music. A couple exchanged a glance, but just as the same person was about to change the song, Orion clasped Fishy’s hand and twirled them. The latter hiss laughed, and the pair spun more. They may not have been the most coordinated or fluid as they fell into ‘step’ with Orion moving and Fishy kinda floating along with, but it was clear who was having the most fun right then. Not even the girl and her Mightyena could compare to the sheer energy. Perhaps Mr. Fish was even sparking? O-oh shoot nope they were actually doing so. Orion didn’t even seem to notice though even as the song ended and their hands parted.
Right after that, though, a Discharge was released from the Eelektross.
Oh. Fuck. Orion lunged to the ground as electricity exploded over.

What a weird song choice indeed??? Sera had to wonder if the person just had their playlist on shuffle or what. She'd be ashamed if she ever found out how many times Nik had this song playing on repeat during the house-buying process, or rather ashamed she'd had no idea that this was A Thing that would mean Orion was very familiar with the song. But-- OH! As they started dancing, she had to approved. It wasn't really dance club music or even slow dance musing, but those sweeping but quickish twirls suited the energy very well~
She was pretty confident in their chances of winning this little wager. Even if the crowd somehow liked the girl more (Sera doubted it?) it couldn't be by much-- not nearly enough to counter her crushing victory. They had this in the bag so long as nothing went horribly wrong in the next thirty seconds or so--
Red eyes grew wide as the eel crackled. Adrenaline took hold, and some part of Sera's brain faster than typical conscious thought raced to note where the light was strongest and the largest bolts were likely to extend. She wasn't sure her feet would move half this quick if she hadn't spent the afternoon warming up, but in some miraculous feat she managed to duck and dive into a clearer spot a fraction of a second before a dozen or more bolts shot off in various directions from the Eelektross.
Most of the crowd, their opponents, and even some of the games nearest the arcade doors... were not as fortunate.

The chaotic cries of numerous shocked individuals rolled through Orion’s ears. He’d hit the floor and was thankfully in close enough proximity to Mr. Fish that the lightning sprayed out beyond him, but that could not be said for the numerous individuals who were shocked in turn. “Arceus fuck,” escaped from his lips before he could even stop himself.
Mr. Fish, meanwhile, looked around confused at the numerous suffering individuals. The machines in the area were shot, the lights were shot, and everyone else in there was shot. Oops? They hissed a little in response looking back down towards Orion. He stared up at them for a solid thirty seconds before finally snorting. Oh hell. They were going to get reamed for this one hah… hah… hell. “Man Fish, you really know how to knock ‘em out…” he mused unwilling to let that pun go wastefully. The Eelektross hissed and clapped their hands. Yesss! They thought so as well!
There were groans of pain in response.
