Ah, cool, cool! "Let's see..." he murmured to himself. Which exhibits were most fun or interactive, at what would be the best path to hit some good ones without detouring too hard? Hrm... Maybe this way?
As they started to walk, Orion's question drew his gaze back over to him. "Mm?" He grinned. "Ah, nah~! Sorry, I guess I didn't fully introduce myself before. I'm K-" Right, they did it backwards here, he was still getting used to that. "Er, Hiroto Kaimana, a new League Professor studying oceanography-- particularly aquatic Pokemon ecology as far as the League goes, but also some related stuff."
Nik blinked. "Oh yeah??? Neat." She debated whether to mention she was ex-League, but... eh.

Orion blinked in turn. Huh, what were the odds? What were the odds considering he had just said his studies included oceanography and this is literally a museum for that. Right, thanks brain, he heard that one loud and clear. So his full name was Hiroto and nickname or whatever he had introduced before was Hiro, got it. He’d probably be doomed to forget this soon enough, but he’d try and stick it down at least for the time they followed him around at least. “Huh, you find out anything new and interesting?” he asked reaching back and stretching one arm before doing the same to the other. “Find Lugia or Kyogre even…” Or any number of other mystical Pokemon attached to waterways.

Hiro grinned so much wider than he should have at Orion's presumably-tease. "Oh, totally~!" he chimed, giving Orion a wink. "Why just last week I had a surfing contest with Kyogre." His chest swelled proudly, and his hands moved a bit to emphasize his words. "My Mantine totally had the edge in terms of flexibility, but it's hard to beat a cheating bastard who controls the waters." He huffed loudly, both fists moving to his hips a moment. "Crying shame, if I won it was supposed to let me show it off to everyone, too. Suppose I'll just have to devote more time to studying the fine surfing arts, eh~?"
Nik blinked at the sheer energy this man seemed to exude, but was fighting a grin. The nonchalant confidence with which he told the story was certainly trolling, but wow it was fun trolling. "...Anything on Manaphy?" she baited.
Hiro crossed his arms. "Snobby bastard won't return my tea party invite. My daughter thinks it's super cute but appaaarently," he rolled his eyes, "when you're Prince of the Sea," his made sort of 'jazz hands' mockingly, "you don't have time to attend tea parties. And here I thought they were pretty classy affairs."

Orion’s lips curled up into a sneer as Hiro spoke. That overwhelming confidence even when bold faced trolling was almost infectious, and he might have insisted that they should have a Mantine surf-off sometime had Nik not spoken right then. Manaphy? As Hiro ran with it, however, Orion snorted softly. “Well that’s not very fair,” he mused softly. “Maybe you should have had your daughter send the invite then~ We all know little girls have a special way of getting what they want.”
But…. Hiro looked too young to have a kid? Never mind that he actually couldn’t guestimate age for shit or that his preconceived notion of when you were supposed to have a kid came from a preselected ‘standard’. “How old’s your daughter?”

Nikki pressed a hand loosely against her face to stiffle the sputter of giggles and snickers at Orion's analysis of little girls. All she was picturing now was Lexi 'beating him up' over Christmas and fuck oh no she was thinking again about how damn cute Orion would be as a dad someone please send help.
Hiro too grinned, sighing a brief, "Guess you're right," before Orion went on with-- Ah. That grin tempered a bit. Fortunately his complexion was dark enough the slight heat in his face shouldn't really be visible. "Sseven," he quickly answered.
Just after his previous energy would resurface as he directed their attention to an exhibit. "Hey, look at these!" Two varieties of shells and fossils of those shells were laid out behind glass cases, including one of each type that was split down the middle to show the insides. Charts above each case explained some facts as well. "Ammonite versus Omanyte shells. It's a pretty interesting look at how Pokemon and animal life differed even in ancient times~! You can even see some differences in the fossils and the modern versions, even for as little as has changed."

Nikki loosely covered her mouth to stifle some of the sputtered giggles and snickers that arose at Orion's assessment of the power of little girls. Oh no, now she was just imagining Lexi 'beating him up' and thinking again about how fucking cute Orion would be as a dad, she did not need to be entertaining this thought someone help. No Starry you were not helping either get out of her thoughts right now missy.
Hiro grinned wide at the suggestion, too, sighing "Guess you're right~" But that grin soon faltered a bit at the follow-up question. Ah... Fortunately his complexion was probably dark enough that the slight warmth in his face wouldn't show. "Sseven," he answered quickly.
A mere moment later, the previous energy returned as he redirected their attention, "Oh over here!" He led them to a display where two cases housed two varieties of shells, each with one shell that was split down the middle and open for the museum patrons to see the insides, and graphs explaining more above each case. "Ammonite versus Omanyte shells! You can get an idea from these how animal and Pokemon life differed even in ancient times, and you can even see some minor differences in the shells of ancient Omanyte compared to these two from Omanyte that were revived a few decades ago." An ancient and revived Omastar shell were housed in another case a few feet to the right of the main display, seemingly a later addition.

Seven, still young enough to be babied but old enough to be more independent. What a cute age. Gosh, wait no so she was around Lexi’s age then— They would be such cute friends. Orion wouldn’t have long to focus on this, however, as Hiro directed them over to a display. Stepping over and leaning up to it, Orion looked inwards.
Ooooh. The patterns of the shells and the knowledge of what they were was pretty neat. Orion actually had an Omanyte, in fact, but it was a hatchling of a breeder’s, not a first ‘generation’ revival. They were pretty different even from his less detailed memories, and entirely too many questions on how they made their shells crept up in the back of his mind. Did they mimic the sea animals or did the sea animals mimic them? Heh. Or was something akin to convergent evolution? Or something entirely different.
…He almost kind of wanted to touch them even if the glass made that impossible. “Fossil Pokemon are pretty interesting,” he commented. “It’s hard to believe we can just science them back into reality heh…” Science or maybe magic. He had looked at the schematics for those gene machines before, and it just didn’t add up as far as he was concerned.

"Damn right it is!" Hiro enthusiastically agreed. "I took a class on them in school since so many of the species with large numbers of usable fossils are ocean-dwelling. The logistics of why it works were lost on me even then, but the mechanical process is so fucking neat."
Nik fidgeted a bit with her hair. "Mm... Kinda makes you wonder about the ethical stuff though. Like... are we playing God?"
Hiro blinked. "Maybe??" He shrugged pretty heavily. "But honestly, if we keep pursuing this, who wouldn't want to bring their partner Pokemon back someday? Or even human loved ones."
Nik bit her lip. "Ah... But... Do we know if it's really 'them'?" Hiro tilted his head, and Nik explained, "Like... Is it the same Pokemon who died, or are we basically raising zombies that eventually take on their own new personas? Like... I lost a Smoochum a few years ago. If I revived her, would it be my Natasha, or just her body being puppeted by some science-induced force of will and instinct? Or like a whole new soul being born in her body?"
Hiro... looked a little paler. "Honey I'm not that kind of doctor.." he eventually said with a weak laugh.
