Dawnson pushed up his glasses and double checked his assignment. Look for and (preferably) capture a Turtonator. To what ends that is to meet, he isn't sure. But none of the assignments Dr. Sal Pine has assigned have been anything less then on the up and up so he has no reasons to suspect this to not be more of the same. Maybe it's because of that odd Tirtouga he showed her that piqued her interest in more "turtle based" Pokemon. Whatever the case, he was in the right area. Was just pure coincidence he was only a five minute walk from Roxanne's home. Totally.

A metallic clinking was heard and Dawnson turned and saw a metal ant approaching. It seemed rather displeased with his intrusion into their nest and clacked their mandibles at him. Not sure what to think or do, he sent out a similarly metallic Pokemon. With a happy squawk popped a small four-legged metal coated dog like thing. She waggled her tail and with a simple command leaped into action and pelted the ant with rocks. Stopping in her tracks, the Durance was not expecting such a strong attack from the tiny Pokemon. Taking advantage of her pause, Dawnson ordered another Rockslide and cheered as Shimmer knocked the Durant back against the wall.
The Durant scrambled back and appeared to be moving faster now. Far more agile than before, the Durant bit Shimmer, lighting coming from its jaws. Shimmer yelped and headbutted the Durant to little effect. Dawnson ordered a Mud-slap to get the Durant to let go. Digging her paw into the earth, she flung a spread of dirt right into the attacking Durant's eyes. Blinded, they let go and scampered backward from the Aron, shaking its head wildly to try and clear its vision. Distracted once more, Dawnson went with what worked and ordered another Rockslide. Aron headbutted a nearby wall and caused a large rock to dislodge itself and land right on top of the pesky ant. It grunted and lay flat, glaring angrily at them both.
Dawnson heard something peculiar. They turned, distracted by what sounded like more electricity. Like it was coming from a path right next to theirs. It almost sounded like. No, it couldn't be her. What reason would she have to be here anyway? Had to be a different trainer exploring the caves, that's all. He has Roxx on the brain and on his shirt. He will have to deal with that later. Something more pressing was on his mind, the sound of the Durant struggling to get out from under the rock and failing. Dawnson was uncomfortable leaving the Pokemon there, under a large rock for an unknowable amount of time. So, he pulled out a Pokeball and tossed it at the defeated Durant.
Battle Breakdown Shimmer(Aron) used Rockslide. Durant flinched. Shimmer used another Rockslide. Durant used Agility and Thunder Fang. Shimmer used Headbutt then Mud-slap. Shimmer used another Rockslide and trapped the Durant under a large rock.

The Durant captured, he continued into the cave. He made sure to praise the Aron for her victory and made sure she was following close behind. This place was way too easy to get lost in, the cave's paths twisting and turning. He made sure to keep the GPS on his Pokedex on so they wouldn't get lost. Dawnson hoped that would be the case. Shimmer seemed more assured of her steps, practically leading the way. Dawnson remembered hearing that Aron originate from caves. Not that he would know, having purchased the egg containing this particular Aron leading him forward.
Shimmer paused in her path and Dawnson stopped as well. They listened and Dawnson swore he heard something but couldn't place it. It sounded like static from a poorly tuned radio. This cave did have a population of Aloan Geodude. Maybe that explained that strange phenomenon, however unsatisfactory that felt? He nudged the heavy metallic Pokemon forward and she obeyed, a faint look of apprehension in her large teal shaded eyes. A distraction from his thoughts appeared in the form of an angry puppy. A small brown puppy sniffed the air and barked at him and Shimmer, warning them off.
The Rockruff was right in his path and preventing them from moving forward. So, he really had no choice but to battle the dog. He commanded a firm Rock slide aimed at the Rockruff and the pup was covered in a mini avalanche of rocks. She leaped forward and bit the steel coated Pokemon, to little effect. She leaped back and kicked up a batch of sand. The now sand coated the Aron and she kicked up like a Ponyta and scampered back as she blinked furiously. Trying to clear the sand from her eyes as the Rockruff growled angrily.
Shimmer managed to clear her eyes and summoned more rocks to bury the attacking Rockruff. She leaped and avoided the rock slide. She was a wiry spritely Pokemon and Dawnson felt admiration for the wild Pokemon's tenacity. It only lasted so long before she was blindsided by the rocks and tumbled to her side. He tossed a Pokeball at her and crossed their fingers.
Battle Breakdown. Shimmer(Aron) used Rockslide. Rockruff used bite then sand attack. Shimmer used a series of Rockslides as the Rockruff dodged. Shimmer struck with a Rockslide.

Dawnson stared at the Pokeball now in his hand, brow quirked with worry. He hoped that his Lyanrocs will accept the Rockruff. He heard a loud bellowing and saw a Bouffalant charge into the cave. Dawnson lacked words for what he just saw. He only recognized the Pokemon because of the old safety videos his pop used to make him watch staring a Bouffalant named Safety Bull Bill. Past that, he didn't know much. He wasn't sure how to approach the beast and sent Shimmer back into her ball, not sure she would be able to battle such a Pokemon.
He sent out the first Pokemon he could think could stop the potential rampage prone Pokemon. A small yellow sheep appeared and bleated happily. He patted the sheep's fuzzy head, a small static charge greeting him. Manna was a good Pokemon through and through, an absolute doll. The bull stomped his feet and Dawnson ordered an Electro Ball. Manna bleated again and summoned an orb of electricity and struck the Bouffalant dead on. Stopping in his tracks, the bull looked around for the source of the attack. Dawnson urged Manna forward, and she shot another ball at the lumbering beast.
The Pokemon charged forward, his target located. Before the beast could strike, Dawnson ordered Thunder and the beast roared, static charge zapping from his body as the beast fell. The Bouffalant tried to pick himself up from his tumble and Dawnson commanded Power Gem and the buffalo stopped, roaring and shaking his head as the gem-like rocks exploded in the Bouffalant's face. It picked itself up and glared at the sheep, trying his best to scare the tiny electric sheep. But she wasn't phased and neither was Dawnson. Dawnson pointed straight at the Bouffalant and ordered a final Thunder. Manna loudly bleated and a giant bolt of thunder struck the beast dead on.
The buffalo bull was not expecting this, not at all. Let alone be defeated by such a tiny thing. With a final stamp of his feet, the bull ran out of the cave. Dawnson listened and heard the hoof beats fade. But then a different noise caught his attention. This time, there was no mistake what it was. They felt it in their bones and followed, the happy sheep following shortly after.
Battle Breakdown Manna(Mareep) used Electro Ball. Manna used a second Electro Ball to catch Bouffalant's attention. Bouffalant dashed forward. Manna used Thunder and Power Gem. Bouffalant used Scary Face. Manna used Thunder and Bouffalant fled.

A vulture stood in his way and Dawnson was not going to let the cranky bird get in his way. Their trusty sheep Pokemon battle ready, he uttered an electro ball at the bird. To that it did not react favorably. The vullaby attacked the mareep furiously. The mareep cried out in pain. Dawnson bit his lip and they commanded a signal beam at the belligerent bird. It had no reason or business to be bothering him. This want anywhere near wat it's nesting area would be. He could tell by the lack of scratch marks on the walls and the absence of any bones anywhere even near this area.
The vullaby plucked at Dawson's mareep and the mareep retaliated with another electro ball. Much to its surprise. It was not expecting the mareep to be such a hearty foe. The ball of fluff did look the opposite of menacing, even to the intern who indeed the adorable mareep. The vullaby appeared to weigh their options. Even in its rough state, it didn't wat to leave such a tasty looking thing behind. But it was proving far too much effort. Wth a funk hyff and angry squawk, it flapped off in the opposite direction they were headed.
Dawnson was secretly, or maybe not so secretly grateful the battle was so quick. Along with the all too clear sound of Roxaane screaming in fright, he heard a more worrying noise. Like a great amount of water was rushing in from somewhere. Wth a cave like this, it was too risky chancing it being "just" some Pokemon battling or something of that nature. He wss concerned of some far worse reasoning for that watery sound. A Pokemon of any kind would be welcome over a potential flood in of one of the paths in the cave. According to the map, this particular cave was close to a nearby ocean.
And that meant he had to hurry. The mareep was not able to keep up with his long stride so they did the only thing that made sense. Dawnson tucked the sheep under his arm as he continued down the path.
Battle breakdown Manna (Mareep) used electro ball. Vullaby used pluck. Manna used a second electro ball followed with a signal beam.

Under his arm, he felt the sheep wriggle and make aggravated noises at being held. With a loud bleat, the sheep freed herself and landed on the ground. Unable to leave his Pokemon behind, they turned and was confused for a moment at what he saw. Manna had completely changed her appearance. His small yellow and blue cloud like sheep was now pink and even less cloud-like. She stood on two legs and urged him onward on newly evolved legs, the mission still in mind. Dawnson remembered why he picked up the sheep in the first place and dashed onward with the sheep keeping pace now.
The caves turned and twisted but like he was being guided, Dawnson found the source of the noise that caught their ears. There! A girl was backed against a wall, tears streaking her face. Her ears were sparking and it appeared a Slakoth's careless swipe was responsible for the now malfunctioning equipment. Dawnson pointed at the Slakoth and ordered a Signal Beam. The green-tinted beam hit the Slakoth and caught it's attention AWAY from the girl. Moving faster then a sloth had any business to be moving, the Slakoth chipped away at a rock, flinging the shards at Manna. With an angered bleat, the Flaaffy shot a large bolt of thunder straight at the Slakoth.
He tossed a Pokeball at the freshly shocked Pokemon and rushed to the girl's side. She smiled at him upon realizing the Slakoth was gone. He helped her up and the girl wrapped her arms around him. If not for his preexisting feelings for the rescued Roxanne, he would have froze up. He still did, actually. But it wasn't because of the sudden contact. He just wasn't expecting such a strong reaction from Roxanne. But at the same time, they were not surprised at the hug. Well, kind of. He did just rescue her. They just weren't used to such open affection. Manna the Flaaffy bleated to get his attention and pointed out the Magby that had taken the Slakoth's place.
Dawnson regretfully freed himself from Roxanne's hug and focused on the battle. Acting more confident then they felt, he pointed at the Magby and commanded a Power Gem. He flinched at the stammer on the order and at the clear chuckle from Manna as she did as she was told. The Magby was knocked back and huffed in indignation. It dashed forward, feinting an attack left before smacking the Flaaffy from the right. Manna went head over tail but she picked herself up quickly and got back into the battle.
Dawnson ordered an Electro Ball towards the Magby. With a bleat, Manna obeyed and a large orb of electricity hit the bulbous fire Pokemon. The now defeated Magby fell to the ground, electric charge zapping from it's small body. Making a conflicted noise, Dawnson pulled out a Pokeball. He heard that Magby were territorial if they came from different areas. Maybe he could find somebody who wanted one to buy later. It would be cruel to leave the defenseless Pokemon here. So he threw another Pokeball, hoping his luck held true for both captures.
Battle Breakdown Slakoth Battle- Manna(Flaaffy) used Signal Beam. Slakoth used Chip Away. Manna used Thunder.
Magby Battle- Manna(Flaaffy) used Power Gem. Magby used Feint Attack. Manna used Electro Ball.

Regrettably, the struggle to get out of the confusing cave was not over. A Vigoroth appeared, along with a Graveler with yellow nodules around their body. Dawnson attempted a reassuring smile towards Roxanne and sent out a partner for Manna, knowing the typing against the Alolan Graveler was not advantageous for the Pokemon at all. So, he sent out Rockstar. The Larvitar winked at him and nodded as he commanded her to distract the Graveler with Dragon Dance for as long as possible. She went and did as she was told, leaving them to deal with the Vigoroth in relative ease.
Dawnson focused on the Vigoroth, the easier of the two. The Vigoroth seemed rather eager to fight the Flaaffy while the Graveler kept their eyes close locked on the other target's obvious distraction. Should make this somewhat simpler in a way. Dawnson commanded a Signal Beam. The Vigoroth is knocked back, green lights surrounding the angry ape. Swinging forward, the ape seemed to be focusing. Without skipping a beat, Manna shot a string of powered gems at the ape. Stunned, the ape shook their head. Manna took advantage of the momentary distraction and shot a ball of electricity at the ape. The Vigoroth fell to the ground, stunned.
With a practiced motion. Dawnson tossed a Great ball at the Vigoroth and returned his attention to the Graveler. The Graveler had yet to figure out how to feel about the small dragon Pokemon dancing around them. They seemed to be charging themselves for something, but could not make up their mind on what.Rockstar was raising his attack and speed, dragon dancing his way around the Graveler as a distraction. She was named well, enjoying the attention. Dawnson felt they had distracted the Graveler long enough and ordered her to use Dark Pulse.
With a gleeful noise that seemed to disturb Roxanne, Rockstar bathed the Graveler in a dark aura. The Graveler flinched noticeably. Ignoring her response, they ordered an Ancient Power. Large rocks hit the Graveler and knocked it back. The Graveler was still disturbed by the Dark Pulse and was not given a chance to react to Rockstar's Outrage as ordered by Dawnson. It fell and curled tight into a ball, defeated by the tiny Larvitar. Feeling bad for the Pokemon, Dawnson tossed a Great ball at them as well.
Battle Breakdown- Vigoroth Battle- Manna(Flaafy) used Signal Beam. VIgoroth attempted Focus Punch. Manna disrupted with Power Gem. Vigoroth was stunned. Manna used Electro Ball.
Graveler Battle- Rockstar(Larvitar) used Dragon Dance x 2. Graveler used Charge. Rockstar used Dark Pulse. Graveler flinched. Rockstar used Ancient Power followed by a series of Outrage.
