So, you really like Horizons and want to help out? Well, we don't hire full Staff very often, but Summon Mod positions are always open, and we're always open to at least considering an upgrade from there! In order to apply, you simply need to meet the following criteria, and send a PM to @staff or message us elsewhere to express your interest!
To be a Summon Mod, one must:
[/b]To be a Summon Mod, one must:
- Have been a member of Horizons for at least 2 months. In rare cases, we may consider someone after only 1 month if they seem exceptionally qualified and/or we are currently struggling to keep up with Summons, although at the time of writing the latter has not been a problem for quite a while.
- Show a thorough understanding of the rules. While Summon Mods are not quite Staff, members still inherently see the rank as holding some weight, and Summon Mods should be able to answer questions accurately at least a fair amount of the time. Deferring to Staff is always preferable to giving wrong answers, of course, though.
- Get along at least fairly well with most members, and handle conflict reasonably well. Having issues with one or two people or a few select moments where something touched a major nerve are not disqualifying, but a Summon Mod should not regularly bicker, make prolonged vent rants in the box, make people uncomfortable, etc.
- Maintain good RP activity. Everyone gets busy sometimes, and an off month will neither disqualify an applicant nor be grounds to lose the position once hired. However, in the long run, you should be a Writer first, Summon Mod second. If an applicant is struggling to keep up with their characters, we don't want to add even more work onto them.
Once hired: If you see a summon that has been waiting longer than usual, please grab it! If doing a few summons when you log on helps you warm up, feel free. If we are experiencing a big increase in activity and/or other mods/staff have been busy, and we're struggling to keep up with summons, prioritizing summons becomes a good thing! However, during times when summons are rarely if ever going a day or more between answers, grabbing summons but consistently neglecting your RP will be grounds to lose the position. We have an entire team that can work on summons, but only you can write your characters and progress your plots!
What a Summon Mod can and can't do:
Summon Mods have a few restrictions compared to Staff in what they can mod.[li]Do treasure, training, and catch spawns and confirmations.
[/li][li]Do mission Pokemon spawns and written prompts.
[/li][li]Breeding rolls.
[/li][li]Gem Trade-ins.
[/li][li]Salary/payment/winning claims. (Not Research Allowance.)
Summon Mods cannot:
[/li][li]Approve bios.
[/li][li]Approve new missions or confirm mission completion.
[/li][li]NPC mod in missions.
[/li][li]Confirm evolution requests.[/li][/ul]
To become Staff:
Staff are hired from Summon Mods who have done a good job, show initiative and insight, and are interested in the position. If a Summon Mod is being considered for a promotion, Staff will likely start inviting them to weigh in unofficially on discussions as a sort of trial period. Potential Staff should compliment the group well-- not necessarily agree all the time, but be able to communicate effectively, get along reasonably well, etc-- and show that their priorities are with the good of the site as a whole.
