{Mission Details} Mission name: Aloha from Alola! Participants: Sophie SequoiaCatching?: Nope, spawns will be trainer mon Spawning: 3X Wordcount Spawn Enemy Monsters (600 Words+) All three should follow an Alolan Theme, be fully evolved with the final being a rare Alolan Pokémon that has a neutral 'match up' with the Water/Fairy Primarina! The second and third 'round' should able to exploit and use a fitting Z-Stone/Move. Mission details: Meet Makana, a friendly rival of Sophie Sequoia's from the days when the young researcher visited the region to study and capture Pokémon! Having arrived in the Veria Region on a trip, the two women have met up to reacquaint with one another, but what sort of meeting between former competitors would be complete without a little battle to see who has made the most of their time apart? Having a friendly three round competition with Sophie, after unleashing a Z-Move in the second round, Makana notices that Sophie has seemingly been holding herself back by not using her own Z-Skills and takes a quick break from the match to find our why this is. The truth being that Miss Sequoia happened to lose her own Z-Ring in the intervening years since they met, in order to make the last round a truly fair contest Makana will offer her a new Z-Ring she had planned to give as a gift to her anyway, equipped with a Z-Stone for the Primarina Sophie would use in Alola, along with a little refresher on how to use it properly. Sophie will then use Primarina in the final bout, hoping to overcome Makana's own Signature Alolan Pokémon! (There is no strict need for Sophie to win any of the rounds, provided she meets the required post count, however my plan would be for her to win round one, Makana round 2 and decide round three 'in the moment' so to speak.) Reward: Z-Knowledge & Primarium-ZIC: Sophie will be given a new Z-Ring to use since she lost her old one, as well as the ability to use Z Skills again after her skill set had become 'rusty'. (She already has a Z Charm in an OOC sense) I’m actually a little nervous, surprisingly? The tip of her finger running across the row of scarlet topped spheres that were attached to her belt, Sophie Sequoia flicked her hair gently as she moved along one of the quieter street of Faraday on a late-winter afternoon. Dressed in a pair of slender legged jeans and a turtleneck sweater, the weather around her was far from severe and warm enough that the long cream coat she had carried was currently slung across her arm. The mind of the woman more focused on the task that was before her than the weather, however, as she turned a corner and headed to a place that looked like a playground the young woman felt a little reassured to see a familiar face waiting in front of her. “Hey, hey! You’re running a little late girl! I thought you’d gotten cold feet?” A caramel coloured hand waving from side to side from a person that Sophie knew much better than most in the area, as the lively character of an old friend warmed the young woman even more, she gave a short chuckle before cocking her head to one side and coming to a halt a couple of feet or three away from the bronze skinned beauty opposite her. “Have I ever been one to let you down, Makana?” The slight stiffness with which Miss Sequoia spoke seeming all the more pronounced as it contrasted the casual fashion which the friend of the femme seemed to prefer, all the same the pink haired one in this duo shone with confidence and just a hint of excitement. Feeling a little bit younger and more reckless to be reunited with someone from her past, Sophie shone with a smile before stepping off again and heading toward a small gate that broke up a fence in front of the pair. “Oi, oi, don’t be calling me that hun, you aren’t my mother!” A wry and fiery look being sent to Sophie as the exotic woman she had met up with followed a step behind, heels seem to hammer the ground almost in unison as this dishy dup slipped through the gate and marched toward what looked to be something like a sports pitch. White lines creating a rectangular box that was divided into two, at the centre was a double pair of circles, one broken by the dividing line whilst the other not, all on top of a pitch that had likely seen better days. The colour of earth being highlighted by these bright markings, while the area had a few clumps of grass sticking out from it, for the most part it was barren and would likely have been a poor choice for anything that demanded turf. Luckily, what these girls sought did not have such a similar want. “Fine, fine, Kana~” The pink haired woman shaking her head as her companion followed her, as they reached the space that was a little bit bigger than a tennis court, Sophie’s mind filled with images of times that many days now separated her from. Splitting from her companion as they each went their separate ways up and down the odd pitch, Miss Sequoia remembered herself with a little more fire in her eyes and the woman she had met up with brimming with even more passion. The both of them surging with youth and the spirit of competition in that image, the scholar was suddenly made aware of just how long it had been since she had last battled another trainer simply for the pride and prestige of victory. “Now, don’t expect me to go easy on you cause you’ve spent most of the last year in a lab!” Maka seeming to pipe up again as they both drew near to their respective ‘command posts’ for what was to come, Sophie smirked toward her old friend and shook her head, feeling far cheekier than she had for a time longer than she cared to consider. “That’s good, I’d hate you to feel too bad when you lose to a lab girl!” Pursing her lips in a kind of cocky grin as she shot back a playful little barb back toward the other woman, Miss Sequoia found that she enjoyed the feeling of excitement and adrenaline that seemed to be spurring them both on. Talking trash but the two of them knowing each other well enough by now not to take the comments overly seriously, it was nice for Sophie to let loose that old trainer spirit she tended to keep more contained these days. “Big talk, brainiac! You ready to see how well your battle skills stand up to your book smarts?” The dark haired dish opposite her seeming to be having just as much fun as Sophie was, there seemed something about the thrill before a battle that brought out the performer in both of these women. Shining with grins and likely to share something of a chuckle if they saw someone else carrying on this way, there was something immensely amusing about the grandstanding they were doing…

“Let’s do this!”“Show me what ya got!” Both of the women calling out excitedly as they let loose an orb each into the field, their common action called for by the spirit of fair play so as not to allow one or the other an advantage, Sophie and Makana let loose their opening array of Pokémon. The orbs splitting apart to reveal a duo whose endearing appearances did not diminish their effectiveness, Miss Sequoia showed off a Pokémon she had acquired in the time since leaving the Alola region more than a year ago. A graceful ‘lady’ of a partner stepping forward who was decorated in the same pink colours as her trainers hair, the fairy Eeveelution known as Sylveon hopped down to the ground with a playful yip and looked across the battlefield toward the opponent she would be facing today. “Surfs up even this far in land, is it?” Sophie letting loose a little playfulness as she sized up the foe across the field from behind her ribbon wearing lass, in front of Makana hovered a Pokémon that rode the air itself thanks to its tail and psychic powers, and sported a set of brilliantly blue eyes and curly golden ears; Raichu. The sight of this thunderous mouse perhaps a familiar one to most in the world, what really set the choice of the Alolan apart was the form that her former Pikachu had evolved into. “Well you know how us Alolan’s love to hit the waves! Now I think about it, I might have to rent out a couple of boards for us while I’m here, eh?” Taking advantage of the strange ecology of her homeland to bring about what was almost a completely separate ‘branch’ of development from what had once appeared to be a straight path, this more unusual finish of the fork boasted potent psychic abilities in addition to the lethal levels of electricity it could produce. Fluid in motion and as fast as the lightning it could create, this island alternative might look more relaxed than its mainland equivalent but was no less ferocious for the image it gave. This would not be much of an easy win for Sophie to earn. “It has been a while actually… Hopefully I still have my beach body?” The pink haired woman still not showing much intimidation though as she giggled and propped her hand behind her head suggestively, as the woman opposite snickered it was plain that this contest was going to be a friendly one, but that did not mean it would be lacking for aggression and desire for victory. The two friends but also rivals once upon a time, while they could laugh together now, both were itching for the bragging rights none the less. “Well, I’d have to get you in a bikini to be sure, but you still look damn fine from here, girl!” Their Pokémon much the same, while neither the Sylveon nor the island Raichu seemed to growl as they looked one another over, when the battle started they showed that the smiles they carried were wore because of confidence rather than playfulness. The tension between the trainers and their partners building to the point where it was practically palpable, fire began to shine from the eyes of all four of them and the battle finally begun in earnest. “Fay, that Raichu is far too fast to have a hope of outmanoeuvring, so just let it come to you and wait for the chance to strike back!” The experience that Miss Sequoia had gained in Alola helping her strategy, whilst the young woman often liked to have the chance to lay out the first strike, in this situation she had to concede a slight superiority in the foe she faced. Warning her pink lady in order to help her not be overwhelmed by the speed and agility the tail-riding rodent could command and instead getting Fay to focus on her own strengths, with a small growl the Sylveon of Sophie nodded and stood her ground, watching the movements of their enemy. “Just because you know how my Raichu can move, doesn’t mean you can wrong foot it!” Makana hearing the warning that Sophie gave her partner but apparently undeterred by it, as her surfing Raichu launched itself forward and began to circle the Sylveon, it seemed to practically toy with the professor’s partner. Dipping forward and teasing Fay with feint after feint before slipping out of the way of all the paw strikes and lunges that the feline fighter could offer up, it definitely seemed in this regard that the mouse had the upper hand. “Now, use Psychic to tame this girl!” The alolan native sliding around on its tail and practically chuckling as it swerved out of the way of Fay’s attempts to ward off its attack, at the urging of its trainer the golden eared mouse spun around on the spot and began to glow with pink energy. The aura that it gathered as it spun on the spot like a top suddenly seeming to jolt free of the creature, the Raichu hopped away from an orb it had created made of pure psychic energy and then used its tail like a club to send it shooting forwards like a baseball. Miss Sequoia’s Sylveon by this point a little confused by the moves it had shown, she tried to dodge the blow but moved a moment too late and took a hit that sent her rolling across the stony ground on which they fought with a yelp. Damnit, Sylveon is hardly sluggish and still it’s hopelessly outpaced… The young woman with pink hair wincing as she watched her partner pull herself back up on shaky legs, with a slight crease in her brow Sophie looked at the grin her opponent wore and squeezed her fist tightly. The carefree Makana letting her Pokémon show off a few smooth surfing moves as she waited for the battle to resume, in the heat of the moment the professor found herself a little annoyed by the cockiness her friend was showing and decided to let loose a ‘trick’ of her own. “I know that hurt Fay, use your Moonblast to even the score!” Shouting out an order to her Sylveon a little bit ruthlessly, Sophie figured that if the Alolan warrior woman had time to show off, she had time to try and dodge a move of her own. The words catching the attention of their enemies as Fay gathered her own aura together and let loose an attack, whilst they seemed surprised by the quick reply, neither Makana nor her Raichu appeared particularly worried by it. The woman opposite simply waving to command her partner to dodge the attack, with a big of a smug grin the surfing rodent lurched to one side as soon as the attack was launched by Miss Sequoia’s fairy fighter, seeming to have read its path in an instant and adjusted itself to avoid it. It had, however, made a mistake.
“You’re not the only one with a sweet move or two, Makana!” Sophie calling out to her rival to rebuke her for such a blasé approach to battle, while the duo she faced seemed to blink in confusion, after a second the professor showed her some fruits of her Sylveon’s training. The path not a simple flat trajectory but rather one that had been concocted with a little of the magic that Fay embodied, the blast of lunar energy that had been unleashed arced around like a crescent and slammed straight into the side of their enemy.
“Seems the professor is taking you to school today, honey~” The surfing Raichu screeching in pain as it was punched by fairy force and then thrown off the ‘board’ it rode around on, whilst it was perhaps a little bit lacking in politeness, Sophie couldn’t help but feel a bit of satisfaction in unseating her opponent. Winking at the woman opposite her as it was now the turn of the Alolan to feel the sting that their heated confrontation could give, Sophie shook her hair out gently as she felt herself a little more assured of what she could do, even if she might have tipped her hand with one of her trump cards for this encounter. After all, it wasn’t like this was the only little quirk she could create with her sublime Sylveon.
“That’s what I get for showing off, huh hun?” Makana running her hand through her hair and letting out a sigh as her psionic Raichu dragged itself back up, while her words carried far less fire than that of Miss Sequoia’s, the blue eyed battler could sense the frustration underneath that calm surfer tone. It looked like the warm up was over. “It's starting to get interesting, but let's see how she handles your Thunder, Raichu!” The Alolan amazon letting out a sigh before taking on a slightly sterner image, as the eyes of Makana sharpened Sophie knew that the proverbial was about to hit the fan and she braced instinctively. The order that the islander called for playing wholly to the strengths of her partner, after using its tail board to propel itself into the air, an almost menacing quantity of energy seemed to surge all around the creature.
“Brace yourself, Fay! If it hits, it will hurt!” This aura golden and seeming to cracking where the edges of it touched the air, while Miss Sequoia knew that such a surging strike was lacking a little in accuracy, the realism within her compelled the girl to air on the side of caution. Calling out to her pink partner a moment before the mass of electricity was unleashed from their enemy, though the Sylveon of Sophie’s tried to duck out of the way of the thunderous volley that was unleashed, the offensive proved too overwhelming. A branching mass of lightning unleashed from their opponent that looked like a waterfall that flowed along rather than into the floor, with a cacophonous crack the attack struck Fay and made her howl in pain as her trainer shuddered at such a frightening blitz of bolts.
If this has gotten the better of you, you did well none the less, Fay… The onslaught that the previously placid Raichu had levied leaving a large black stain on the ground with Sophie’s Sylveon at the centre of it, as the girl continued to shiver despite how warm the attack had made their surroundings, she clutched her chest and wondered how badly hurt her partner had been. The fur of Fay singed by the attack and its pink and white colour now dashed with a pattern of blackened tips, the professor held her breath as her Pokémon quivered from the shock it had suffered, and finally let out a loud gasp when she saw her friend pull herself back onto her feet.
“That’s one tough gal you’ve raised there, hun…” Makana the first to break the silence as a wobbly Sylveon forced her feet back underneath her, Sophie smiled and nodded, appreciating the compliment even in these circumstances. However, she wasn’t about to be held back by it either.
“You have no idea…” Flicking away a small bead of a tear that had built in the corner of her eye as Fay shook herself and while wobbly looked keen on continuing, Sophie turned her attention to the Raichu who had come close to ending their battle. Seeming to have thrown everything it had behind the attack and panting almost as hard as Fay was, no longer did it hover above the ground upon its golden tail and instead looking weary as it rested on all four of its limbs. This was a chance Miss Sequoia could not afford to waste.
“Hit it with Double Edge while it’s tired, Fay!” Feeling guilty for forcing her already agonized partner into a reckless action but knowing that the thrill of victory might just abate any pain the move gave her Sylveon, Sophie snapped her hand outward as she gave a rather stern command to end the battle. Knowing that a big part of the smooth speed and evasion that the Raichu could command relied on its surfing manner of moving, with it being ‘grounded’ for the moment and also temporarily drained by the attack it had just thrown at them, this was the chance that the professor had been waiting for.

I just hope this doesn’t wipe Fay out too… Crossing her fingers and hoping that her pink partner had enough left in the tank after the onslaught she had received to recover from the reckless charge that she embarked on, with a grunt the girl of Sophie’s flung herself forward and shone with the same colour she had used like a curving cannonball earlier. Another of the little trump cards that Fay held the ability to charge her ‘normal’ moves with her fairy might, this rare skill set her apart from the average example of a Sylveon and Miss Sequoia hoped to use it in her own favour, even if her method was a little brutal.
Please hold on… Sophie wincing so hard that she practically jolted as Fay ploughed into the body of the weary surfer with everything she had, the crunch that the clash created sent another shiver through the woman and she found herself panting as both Pokémon ploughed into the ground. Raichu knocked over but her Sylveon throwing every drop she had left in her tank into this attack, the professor balled her fists up and felt her heart race as she watched to see who might get up after the clumsy crash. Her faith in Fay would be rewarded, however.
“Yes!” Letting out a shout as she saw the Sylveon she had called upon weakly pull her paws back underneath her, though Fay looked like a lamb taking their first steps when she rose back up, she was the only one. Makana’s Raichu flat on its back and not appearing to have the ability to move from that position as Fay wobbled away from it Sophie threw her fist into the sky excitedly. "Great work, Fay..." Only having won the first round of their little contest but elated as if she had gone for six thanks to the intensity of the encounter, as the fairy feline of the femme stumbled over to her Miss Sequoia couldn’t help but throw her arms around her cute companion, her victory affording her a moment of respite from the tension between herself and Miss Makana…
Makana chose Raichu (Alolan)! Sophie used Sylveon!
Raichu used Psychic! 30% Damage! Sylveon used Moonblast! 50% Damage! Raichu Thunder! 40% Damage! Sylveon used Double Edge (W/Pixelate STAB)! Raichu was Wiped out! Sylveon took 20% Recoil Damage!

“Not bad, girl… Seems textbooks and microscopes haven’t ruined you completely, eh?” The routed Raichu recalled by the woman opposite her, Sophie gave her Sylveon a small squeeze of affection as her ‘enemy’ offered a little bit of praise for what they had done. Makana smirking as she placed the ball that her first fighter had been returned to on her belt, she gave a gentle and jokey applause to Miss Sequoia as she stood up and withdrew Fay, taking a moment to indulge the peace before the next clash commenced.
“You should know me better than to think I spend all my time behind a desk, Makana! My ‘office’ is the long grass!” The pink haired professor smirking in return, she cocked her hips to one side and laid a hand upon her waist as she returned a little sass of her own, which was rooted in truth. Tending to spend far more time in the field than cooped up in some stuffy office, Sophie had battled Aerodactyls and all sorts of monsters both individually and en masse; Veria had a habit of summoning up small armies to combat invaders in the wild.
“Well, the real battle starts here, I suppose… Let’s get it ON!” Makana appearing to have been hardly deterred by the loss she had suffered and rather spurred on by it, the moments of respite ended in a rather short fashion as the Alolan woman lifted up a new Pokéball in front of her and prompted Miss Sequoia to nod in return. The professor pulling one of her orbs from her belt almost at random, since they had agreed to throw their Pokémon out in unison, there was little strategy to be found in choice of partner when one had no idea how they would size up against their opponent. Instead opting to choose a balanced team and hope luck was on her side, the pink haired girl hurled her ball forward and hoped her friend wasn’t packing another electrical powerhouse.
This time it seems to be a ‘grave’ matter… Smirking a little to herself as the shape of her enemy revealed itself to her, Sophie grinned as she saw a rather stern looking enemy who looked like its head had lost everything but the skull beneath its surface. A glaring fellow with golden eyes and scaly skin that looked fresh from a blaze standing in front of Makana, the bone that it carried was a big give away as to the identity of the Pokémon known as Marowak. It’s dark colouration and the blue flames that danced at either ends of the ‘weapon’ that it carried implying that once again the Alolan native had stayed ‘local’ with her choice of partner, this semi-spectral opponent was of an entirely different breed to the sandy coloured variant that was more common around Kanto bluffs and bad lands. Yet the choice that her dark beauty had didn’t intimidate her, and didn’t make her worry for her own choice.
“I feel as if we're back at Wela Volcano~” Giggling lightly as a crested bird gently flapped its wings near her to keep itself aloft, as the owl that Sophie had chosen exchanged an equally severe glare with the Marowak of Makana, the pink haired girl couldn’t help but reminisce about her time in Alola. Remembering the trials presented to her and a monster much like this one being involved in her the ‘test’ of fire, there seemed a sense of poetry in the choice that her caramel-skinned competitor had chosen. It was like the islands had come back to challenge her again.
“I just hope your Noctowl can stand the heat… He won’t fall asleep at this time of day, will he?” The femme’s friend shaking her head at the comment with an expression that seemed to imply equal degrees of reminiscence, she shrugged a little and sent a playful tease toward Miss Sequoia and her avian ally. “She has senses sharp enough to get the better of this fiery savage even if she did!” Sophie shaking off the friendly jab as well as her hair, she returned a little ‘lick’ of humour to her island acquaintance as the pair sized one another up and waited to see who would make the first move. Once again their choices seeming to have little advantage in terms of typing, it seemed another interesting encounter lay ahead of the dishy duellists.
“This time, we’ve got the advantage since we have air superiority! Make sure it can’t knock you down with that club, Minerva!” The pink haired of the duo coaching her partner as both of the monsters moved forward, with an effortless display of aerial agility her Noctowl twisted in the sky as soon as their enemy drew its arm back and tried to line up a strike on her. The eyes of Minerva never seeming to leave the flaming bone that the Marowak carried as she swept through the air in loops and turns, the ability of this usually nocturnal huntress to twist her head around near of 360 degrees proved invaluable. Watching the path that the flame tipped bone was aimed upon and making sure that the skull sporting spook knew it, she took advantage of the hesitation her steely glare gave the lizard to swoop forward and try to strike at their enemy.
“Use Extrasensory, Minerva!” Sophie piping up behind her avian ally with a command that turned the dive that Minerva had engaged in into something of a feint, while she considered the manoeuvre of her partner a boon, she decided to use it more to throw her enemy off balance a little. Well aware of the strengths and weaknesses of her ally and deciding that a special attack would suit her Noctowl’s abilities much better, as the Marowak was left stunned by the fact that she spun out of a near-certain strike, after a moment the body of bone-wielder was rocked by a sudden blast from behind. Their adversary stumbling and steadying itself with the weapon it carried as a ray of mental energy was unleashed from the beak of Minerva, Miss Sequoia took the first ‘blood’ of the fight and pumped her fist subtly as she enjoyed that fact. She didn’t have much time to celebrate, however.

“Channel the spirit of your fallen friend with Retaliate, Maro!” Makana calling out almost immediately after the attack that Minerva had imparted, Sophie looked across to her fellow trainer and saw that in this round the woman seemed a whole lot more focused. Shaking off the casual approach she had taken to their first clash likely because of the sobering loss she had suffered, the Alolan woman looked almost strict as she commanded her own combatant, or as stern as a surfer girl could.
Severe… But effective! The order she offered proving invaluable though, after a moment to gather up further spectral power and strengthen its weapon with it, the Marowak swiped with a weapon that seemed far more potent than it had been even a few moments before. Engulfed fully in the eerie blue flames that had previously only clung to the tips of the club, with a mix of a lunge and a lash the vengeful lizard let out some wrath upon Minerva, who struggled to avoid the blow. Slipping away from the club but unable to escape the flaming ‘blade’ that the technique had created, the Noctowl screeched as her feathers were scorched by an otherworldly heat and she was sent skidding across the battleground, before drawing to a halt.
“That was a nasty one, but don’t let yourself be grounded too long!” Sophie calling out to her partner as the bird tried to push her wings underneath herself and stand back up, while it was a little ruthless to compel a wounded partner into action again, the urgency of the moment forced the hand of the professor. “Fend off that attack with an Air Slash!” The Marowak of Makana sprinting toward Minerva now that she had lost her airborne advantage, while Miss Sequoia was relieved to see her ally in the air again, she knew she wouldn’t get enough elevation in order to avoid a smack from their enemies club.
Advising her avian ally to try and buffet their enemy with her powerful wings, the Noctowl gave a curt nod before drawing her forelimbs back and cracking them together like a pair of lashes. Opponent right on top of the owl practically by the time a wicked wake of wind was unleashed, to the relief of both trainer and her Pokémon partner the split second of haste that Minerva had exploited seemed to prove a big difference maker. The bone wielder wincing as its body was blasted back by the attack that it hadn’t had the time to brace against, Sophie let out a sigh of relief as she watched their enemy flung far enough back that it couldn’t follow up on its attempt, and her partner was given the chance to set into the air properly.
“We may get on better attacking from the sky, Minnie! Hit it with another Air Slash if you can!” Giving a small nod of self-assurance as she saw that she might have accidentally come upon a situation where she had the advantage, with her owl hanging in the sky it seemed there was little the Marowak could do to respond to the range that Minerva possessed. Throwing it’s club into the air a couple of times ineffectually but finding that the agile wings of a Noctowl were more than enough to avoid the attacks, after another whipping strike sent straight down on top of the stern skull wearer, Sophie found herself wondering if the battle was over. A blow falling down like an executioners axe and leaving the body of her opponent bruised and bloody, while it struggled back to its feet despite the fact it looked about to faint, Miss Sequoia found the contest rather a cruel prospect to continue and looked over to the oddly quiet Makana. And then she saw it.
That pose…! Jolting as if someone had thrown a bucket of ice cold water over her body the second that she spotted the silent woman from Alola, the stance that the islander had assumed sent a wicked chill through the body of Sophie and she gasped aloud. “Minerva, look out!” Moving from a feeling of pity toward her enemy and into something more akin to terror as she looked back to the wobbly but defiant Marowak, Miss Sequoia called out desperately to her ally even though she knew the action would likely be in vain. Energy swarming around the nearly but not quite beaten beast and building like a feverish frenzy, the air around Makana’s monster suddenly exploded with a wicked flame that shot up into the sky as if someone was trying to create a second sun.
"INFERNO OVERDRIVE!" A massive fireball unleashed with size enough to dwarf Minerva, whilst she tried to shoot through the air away from the attack, there was no hope. Screeching in agony as the flames passed over her feathery form and left her blackened by the blast that Makana had unleashed, the eyes of Sophie widened as her flying guardian was brutally robbed of both her vigour and the victory she had come so close to earning. The eyes of the professor stinging as she watched her winged warrior woman go limp and drift downward, after shaking her head Miss Sequoia pushed her Pokéball forwards and sent a laser light to ‘catch’ her comrade before she slumped to the ground.
Makana chose Marowak! Sophie chose Noctowl!
Noctowl used Extrasensory! 25% Damage! Marowak used Retaliate! 45% Damage! Noctowl used Air Slash! 35% Damage! Marowak Flinched! Noctowl used Air Slash! 35% Damage! Marowak used INFERNO OVERDRIVE! Noctowl was wiped out!
Makana won the second round! 1-1 Wordcount: 1984

You were fantastic, Minerva… The performance of the Noctowl sublime and certainly there being no shame in losing to such an overwhelming force, Sophie clutched her spherical ‘nest’ close to her chest and let out a small sigh of relief that she had managed to catch her bird in time. The score made even once again and the professor a little but dejected by that, she was afforded a little bit of time to contemplate her loss and the wellbeing of her ally as Makana panted from the strain of what she had just done.
“I’ll get you taken care of as soon as this final round is finished…” Unsure of whether the woman opposite her was merely playing possum to give her a moment to process the lost or was genuinely so worn out by what she had done, a small part of Miss Sequoia would lean toward the former but for now she focused on her fallen friend, whispering gently through the surface of the orb she held to try and offer comfort. Placing Minerva’s Pokéball to her chest for a moment before pecking the top of it gently, Sophie closed her eyes and let out a long sigh as she cuddled her Pokéball regretfully, and wondered what the next ‘round’ might hold for her mon.
That’s one skill that’s probably gotten rusty since I left Alola… Not having used Z-Moves in all the time she had been in Veria, until she had seen Makana taking up the pose of blistering flame the professor had largely forgotten about those potent technique boosters, and without a Z-Ring on her arm right now would be at something of a disadvantage in this fight.
“Whew… You pushed me so hard there I had to pull just about everything I had out of the bag!” Makana finally managing to even out her breath after the spiritual exertion she had just endured, she spoke with a sense of humility and consideration in her victory. Not gloating because of the round she had just won and showing a bit of grace that seemed to go a little against the grain of her frank and playful style usually, she smiled and recalled her own woozy warrior before running the back of her hand across her brow and mopping up something that glistened from her brow. “Gotta say, surprised you didn’t whip out a Z-Move in this round, or the last… Figured you were saving them as trump cards, but did you just get caught off guard toward the end there?” The sunlight only making the exotic, dark colour of Makana’s skin look even more lustrous and lovely, had the subject matter been a little less intriguing, Sophie might have found herself rather more distracted by the woman opposite her as she dabbed away a little perspiration that the heat and sun had created.
“Not… Exactly. The truth is that I uh, can’t use them right now?” Instead being prompted to address an issue that she had largely been ignoring since before she had arrived in Veria, whilst she didn’t understand exactly why, Miss Sequoia found herself a little nervous as she gave an admission. Rubbing her arm gently and assuming her feeling of anxiety was largely for sentimental reasons, the best guess that Sophie could offer would be that it felt a bit like losing something like a friendship bracelet or token of a person. Z-Power was, for the most part uniquely Alolan, and to lose it felt a little like betraying her experiences and the bonds she had made there.
“Whoa, hey, what? Nah don’t be kidding, girl… I know you did a fair few trials around the islands, ya can’t have forgotten how to use it, can ya?” Makana cocking her head at the news as if she was being told a joke she didn’t quite get the punchline for, with a brow raised the island beauty paused for a moment and shook her head in disbelief at the ‘loss’ that Sophie had suffered.
“It’s not that, rather… Well, I lost my Z-Ring! A case of mine was lost and the ring was in it… Probably ended up in Kanto or at the bottom of the sea or something?” Miss Sequoia herself seeming oddly subdued by the ‘failure’ she had endured, while she was usually quite confident and outgoing, currently the professor felt rather humbled and a little vulnerable by her revelation. Almost expecting Makana to scold her like an angry parent for what had occurred, one might have expected the sudden sense of anxiety to prompt a fidgeting action like rubbing her fingers together as she blushed. Thankfully, Sophie’s sense of esteem hadn’t been cut back quite that far, however.
“Jeez, and ever since you’ve just not been using them? Damn girl, you’re better at this than I thought… Man though, if ya’d let me know you’d lost your ring, I coulda sent you a new one?” The Alolan woman throwing her hands up in the air and laughing at the news, Makana offered a response that seemed to entirely defy the image that the pink haired girl had been hoping to avoid with her usual splendour. Sophie’s unease lifting a little as she looked at her carefree friend and gave a gentle smile, she rubbed the back of her neck and then ran her hand through her hair gently as she felt herself relaxing once more.
“Ah well… I haven’t gotten into a pinch where I’d regretted not having it, and there were Z-stones and such in the caves here, so I figured eventually I’d get my hands on another?” Shrugging at the offer that her island friend gave as she tendered the hope she had been supporting ever since discovering Veria was one of the few places in the world that had a commonality with Alola, while Sophie had managed to retrieve various replacements for her lost Z-Stones through exploration of ruins and finds at markets, the tool to use them had largely eluded her. Seeming to have adapted to life without the ring and had it more as a kind of bonus to her arsenal should she ever find one, it wasn’t until the professor had been the ‘victim’ of the Z-Move in the minutes before that she’d really given the matter much though, at least not for a good long while. Her friend, however, seemed keen on making that small ambition a reality.

“Eventually may be sooner than you thought, ya know? Here, catch!” Pulling something from a pocket and fidgeting with it for a moment, after a second Makana send something round that looked like a mix of watch and ornament spinning through the air, with Minerva’s ball in one hand Sophie stepped forward and snatched the item that the islander had tossed between.
“Huh? W-Wait, this is…?” Bringing the strangely ornate bangle in to her in disbelief for a second and turning it over, the eyes of Miss Sequoia grew wider as she recognised the familiar inscriptions upon the face of the item, and then eyed the strange blue diamond that had seemed to have been inserted into it.
“It’s nice, right? I picked it up before I set off and was gonna give it you before I left as ya know… Something to remember lil ol’ me by? Seems like you need it now though!” Staring at the blue fragment that resembled a Waterium-Z so closely and yet was not one, Sophie looked up from the gift to see Makana looking just a hint of embarrassed as she explained why she had been carrying something that the professor had struggled to find in the past year or so. A little redness in those bronzed cheeks making her look all the more endearing, the pink haired one of the pair gave a small giggle as she saw her usually carefree and casual friend seeming a little cuter than usual. It was nice.
“What? Well… Heh, its lovely but you know you’re kinda giving up a big advantage you had going into the last round, right?” Sophie looking over what she had been given a second time, she noticed the subtle patterns of that had been carved into the battle bangle, it looked far more elegantly designed than the run of the mill ring’s people received from Kahuna. A lot more care, attention and dare she say it love gone into this, the pink haired girl silently wondered if this was something that Makana herself had made? That was certainly a sweet notion and would support the bashfulness that the beauty opposite showed having handed it over, but whatever the case, it would certainly be something that Miss Sequoia treasured and compelled the woman to find something equally lovely to impart before her friend left.
“Ahahahaha! Nah, what would be the point in winning if you weren’t at your best? That would be no fun for either of us to rub your nose in!” Naturally the relaxed Alolan girl unlikely to ever fully confess to the sentimentality that the gift presented, Sophie could see a little bit more joy in the smile her fellow femme wore than her usual carefree smirk. Makana certainly could be cute when she wanted to be, or more accurately, when she tried not to be!
“Heheheh… Well, all the same… Thank you, Makana. I’m glad that you are as good a friend as you are an enemy!” Miss Sequoia herself unable to fully exploit the odd vulnerability that her casual comrade showed with a spot of teasing because of how taken aback she was by the gesture, after swallowing down a bit of a lump in her throat, she shone with a smile and dipped her head toward the generous island beauty opposite her. So humbled by the sweetness and generosity that Makana had showed that she felt compelled to bow all the way to the ground, though the distance between them on the battlefield allayed such a notion, the mental note to thank the girl as best she could was imprinted upon her mind. Intent on making this trip the best of her friend’s life, Sophie giggled gently and wiped a little hint of a tear from her eye before she slipped the Z-ring onto her wrist and let out a slow sigh of satisfaction. It fit like the proverbial glove.
“Damn straight! Now, how’s about we get this thing going so you can take that thing for a whirl?” The mild unease demonstrated by her rival easing away now that Sophie had put the ring on, the islander shone with a broad grin and showed a little more energy and enthusiasm than she usually did. A fiery fondness for fighting lying under the more relaxed Alolan attitude she usually showed, as Miss Sequoia knew all too well, she nodded at the suggestion of Makana and slipped the ball she had returned Minerva to back onto her belt.
“Well, with this locked and loaded, there’s only one choice for me, isn’t there?” Aware that the only way to do justice to the gift she had received was to use it properly, while the glittering gem guiding her act, the professor chose the very Pokémon in her party that could take the fullest advantage of it. Knowing that Makana would never be as underhanded as to use a piece of Primarium in some sneaky-minded act of strategy, even if she had done Sophie wouldn’t have really minded too much. Some of her competitive feeling tempered by the sweetness she had just enjoyed and the woman honestly quite excited at the chance to use Z-Power after such a long time, the notions of victory of victory or defeat seemed to have lost their sway, and she was more focused on making this fight a good one.
“It’s up to you, Poppy!” Lifting up the Pokéball that contained a partner she had trained well and yet had not used terribly often of late, the time ‘apart’ only seemed to make her Primarina look more majestic when the ball split apart and released her. Beating her long lashes over her brilliant blue eyes and flicking her long, pearl wrapped hair, even Sophie herself felt a little bit envious of the beauty her siren had. Perhaps finding just a tiny hint of allure about the mermaid-like being she had just set free and smiling as her lady of the ocean let out a sweet note in place of a battle cry, Miss Sequoia shook her head and tried to ignore the way the sun highlighted that smooth white skin and focus on the fight that was yet to come.

“It seems fitting that our final round should be an all-Alolan affair~” Smirking as she saw the shape of the watery warrior whom Makana had called upon, as one rare creature of renown in the nation of islands looked over another, Sophie felt a little thrill at the idea of seeing how they might clash. The Alolan Amazon calling upon a colony of small fish that came together to make something terrifying, an ocean juggernaut that was the size of a whale dominated the side that the dark skinned beauty had chosen for the battle. “Shame we didn’t choose a nice beach for the battle, eh?” Wishiwashi’s school form something that was certainly intimidating but not a challenge that Miss Sequoia felt like backing down from, with the contrasting styles held by these two ocean dwellers the contest looked like one between brawn and beauty but the pink haired professor didn’t feel like she was coming up short. “Heehee, you trying to get me to slip into a Bikini again~?” What Poppy lacked in size and strength she more than made up for in grace and ability, so as far as Sophie was concerned these marine monsters were pretty well matched. Both armed with Z-Power they could exploit if they needed to and their common water type cancelling out any advantage in that area, while the schooling fish probably boasted a little more depth in their abilities, the Primarina’s dual type gave her an area of expertise above what this mass of fish could call upon. The victor would be a hard one to call. “Can’t say I’d be against the idea at all~” Naturally the women behind the watery warriors unable to hold back their playful natures whilst the two sides of this final contest sized one another up, as the tension between both trainers and the two Pokémon began to build, electricity seemed to fill the air. Both girls looking from the faces of their friends to the partners they had summoned and waiting for the other to make the first move, with a smirk to one another at last did this deciding round get underway when they both shouted out to get things started. “Show her an ocean queen, Poppy!”“She'll bow to the strength of the school, Washi!” The calls of the respective commandants compelling the combatants into action, as the gigantic mass of Pokémon lurched forward to try and claim the first attack, Poppy showed her skill and speed with an effortless-looking dodge out of the way. Sliding across the arena on her flippers like the ground was made of ice and she was a figure skater, the Primarina gave a small cry as she slipped out of the way of the opening charge and around the back of the group she faced, looking to perhaps attack from behind. Her tactic falling flat however when the school of fish simply reorganized to face her and lash out again, while Sophie’s partner once again slipped away from a possible attack, it appeared that simple strategies would not be enough to overcome the differences in strengths these entities possessed. “Poppy, try and use your Hyper Voice to rattle the group!” Miss Sequoia calling out to her gliding ally at the sight of her failure, after a nod the Primarina slipped across the ground again and began to harmonize with a sweet tone of voice. Rolling onto her back and then looping around like a twirling ballerina to rest on her curled tail, as Poppy found the perfect note to use, she unleashed a sudden sharpness in her music that rocked the battlefield. Rings of destructive sound bombarding the formation of fish and slowing it down, the siren of the sea made the school quiver with her attack but could not overcome it. Perhaps her special ability hinders her a little when up against fellow water-types? A rumbling growl seeming to erupt from the oceanic pack as their shape began to ripple before growing rigid again, the brow of the blue eyed beauty tightened a little as she surmised that what usually proved a advantage seemed to work against her partner this time. The Primarina gifted with the ability unconsciously charge her vocal emissions with hydrokinetic force, or in layman’s terms give a water typing to moves she used her voice for, whilst this factor often boosted her attacks it appeared to work against creatures that were used to fighting against waves in a formation like this. “Use Beat Up, Washi!” The Wishiwashi group shaken but far from beaten by the attack that Poppy had used, as the mermaid-like mon panted a little from her exertion she made easy pickings for Makana and her own monster. The clever rival of Miss Sequoia taking advantage of a move that worked best for beings that liked to team up, this mass of dozens if not hundreds of individuals seemed to benefit the most from such a technique. Who needs water when you can flood a fighter with bodies alone? The school splitting but on its own terms now, Sophie winced as she watched what looked to be a bombardment of tiny fry shooting toward her partner like a swarm of hornets. None of these individuals having the power to stand toe to toe with even the least evolved form of Primarina but together making a barrage that even this powerful pinnacle of a Pokémon couldn’t fight off, when the onslaught ceased the white skin of Poppy was marked with several bruises and abrasions and she was left whimpering gently. Miss Sequoia needed a potent counter to this move. “Watery moves might not work so well, but it isn’t your only type! Use Moonblast to punish these bullies!” Sophie calling out to her injured partner and deciding to use a move that Makana had already seen today, she reckoned that if the nippy Raichu had struggled to avoid the move her Sylveon had called upon, this sluggish school would fare even worse. Poppy shaking off the hurt she had suffered so far and then pushing herself back toward the edge of the battlefield as the goliath she faced reformed, with another sweet note she began to hum and create a pinkish hue around herself that only made her look more beautiful and elegant. The Wishiwashi seeming to sense immediately that they’d struggle to slip out of the way of this particular attack, as the aura that the Primarina had given off began to rush toward her mouth, the sylph-like swimmer gave a sharp cry as she unleashed a sphere of energy toward her target. The attack looking like someone was using a pink bowling ball to strike down a massive collection of blue pins, though the vocal technique of Poppy’s had failed to break the mass earlier on, her fairy-born blast held up much better in this regard. Smashing straight into the school of fry and then exploding like a firework inside it, a dozens of tiny voices hissed and screamed all at once as fish went flying everywhere. Raining not cats nor dogs on the battlefield but rather big eyed blue sardines, Sophie shot a smile and a thumbs up to her partner as the school was shattered, but did not realize the battle wasn’t done just yet.
“Nasty, hit them with an Earthquake while you reform, Washi!” Makana wearing an expression of determination despite the setback, she swept her hand across the battleground in front of her as her troupe of fish looked toward her with pleading eyes. The command of the Alolan girl seeming to make the wimpy collection take on some of her resolve, without even forming up as they once had the squad surged toward one another in a heap and then let out an even louder and lower rumble than they had before.
The pile of puny Pokémon quivering even more than they had when Poppy had bombarded them with the sharpness of her sweet voice, from the mound came a quake that made even Sophie stumble to the side. The result even worse for her partner as the Primarina bore the brunt of the attack, the ground beneath the white lady of the sea seemed to toss and turn like the tide in a storm, but not one this watery woman could ride. Thrown around violently and left simpering on the ground when the attack subsided, as the siren lifted herself back up shakily she found that once again the juggernaut had gotten back to its collected form, but not without issue.
The blackness of burns scarring some of that blue surface and the group seeming to quiver gently, while Poppy was rather woozy from the injuries she had suffered, so too was the goliath she faced. Both the lady of the sea and her brutish enemy seeming to be approaching their last legs, it seemed to both trainers that the next move would decide the fight and neither Makana nor Miss Sequoia planned to hold anything back.
“It’s been a while but, let’s throw everything into a last Oceanic Operetta!” After placing her hand on the bangle that she had been given and letting out a long, controlled breath, Sophie rolled her arms at once side and then swept them across herself to do the same on the other, mimicking the flow of the tide. The movement a simple one but one that carried great power when combined with the Primarium-Z she now had access to, Miss Sequoia felt energy surging within herself before being passed onto Poppy who knew exactly how to use it. Water seeming to swell and surge seemingly out of nowhere as the siren sang with a slow but beautiful melody and guided the blue liquid with her flippers into an orb that dwarfed even their goliath opponent. The pink haired professor, however, wasn’t the only one to command Z-Power.
“Let’s see if your Primarina can outrun a Hydro Vortex!” On the other side of the battlefield the beauty opposite also performing a similar motion to call upon the power of water, the giant Pokémon she had chosen began to surge with power and fluid as well, creating a contained flood that began to swirl around itself before shooting forwards. Each of them choosing a different Z-Move but the common watery element seeming to make the attacks mix, as the orb that Poppy had created was dragged into the enemy attack, it only seemed to add to it. The sphere seeing to twist and turn and suck up the flood that Washi had created, all of a sudden the battlefield was overrun with what looked to be a gigantic water spout that surged into the sky. Liquid turning and twisting like a tornado as both the Primarina and the school of fish were dragged into the attack, both trainers could only look on as both their ally and adversary were undone by this combined attack.
I-Incredibly… I wonder if Z-Moves could ever be used in tandem? The school of Pokémon torn apart by the torrent and the blue liquid suddenly flooded with the bodies of dozens of dizzy eyed fish the size of sardines, Poppy did not fare much better as the marine merry go round spun faster and faster and left her both woozy and exhausted. Eventually the turn of the tide finally seeming to reach its peak and then ebb away, the tower of turning water lost the force with which it was being compelled and collapsed all of a sudden, like a waterfall that bad been created out of nowhere.
“W-Wah!” Sophie crying out as a brief but severe torrent surged in all directions from their battle as if a building-sized bucket had been emptied above them, with a shriek and a grunt she found herself being knocked to the ground, landing on her side and knee but ignored the discomfort that this act caused. Where is Poppy? Is she OK? Shaking her head as she found herself on ground, though the fall and the drain on her energy that the Z-move had caused left her feeling rather woozy, Miss Sequoia still shot up because of other concerns on her mind. Immediately thinking of her partner who had been right in the middle of that chaotic clash, the professor had little time to laze about on the ground no matter how shaky she was feeling.

“Thank… Goodness…” Scanning the soaked battlefield for a sign of her Pokémon partially out of concern from what had gone on and also because she wanted to know what the outcome of the clash was, after a second or two of panic at the thought that her Primarina might have been washed away to god knows where by the move, she let out a breath of relief as she spotted that white skin glistening in the sun. The battlefield laden with dozens of blue bodies that were flopping around with no intention of reforming for the time being, with a wince as she realized that she had grazed her knee just now, Sophie slipped forward to check on the condition of Poppy and then gave a smile as she saw her girl looking dizzy but otherwise unharmed.
“Guess we’ll have to call it a draw, then?” The siren also seeming to not be looking like she could offer much of a challenge until after she regained her equilibrium, Sophie giggled lightly and then looked around at the equally limp fish, then the trainer who had called upon them. Makana looking even woozier than she was but giving her a grin as Miss Sequoia called to her, while this battle didn’t technically have a winner, something told the wet professor that somehow they had both been the victor today…
Sophie chose Primarina! Makana chose Wishiwashi!
Primarina used Hyper Voice! It’s not very effective… 20% Damage! Wishiwashi used Beat Up! It’s not very effective… 30% Damage! Primarina used Moonblast! 50% Damage! Wishiwashi used Earthquake! 45% Damage! Primarina used Oceanic Operetta! Wishiwashi used Hydro Vortex! BOTH POKÉMON WERE WIPED OUT BY THE WATER SURGE!
The Match ends in a draw!
