Residual psychic energy… A cup just to the side of her steadily seeming to give off whisps of steam and a sweet aroma as she gently scrolled through a report on her phone, Sophie Sequoia’s brow arched a little as she looked over the details that one of Arcadia’s field agents had prepared for her, sitting in a small but comfortable café on the other side of town from her office. The hiss of a barista and their steaming machines tending to be the only thing that broke a largely quiet and easy going atmosphere of people reading books or playing with their phones with a warm drink next to them, the relaxing venue had seemed the perfect place to greet a person whom this blue eyed beauty had greatly looked forward to meeting. A busy woman usually but today seeming to be afforded a moment or two to relax, her purpose here was one of diplomacy and hospitality, really. Hoping to meet the latest addition to the Pokémon League’s scholarly team, though Miss Sequoia had seen fit to go into a more private form of practice and study, she couldn’t help but feel a keen interest in the new minds to take over her old post. Those with similar expertise as her a rare and busy bunch, Sophie had found she had not spent nearly enough time in the company of her peers of late, and relished the chance to indulge herself a bit more. Today was exciting for her. Sightings of Solrock, Baltoy, Natu.. Shifting slightly in her seat as she browsed the list of Pokémon that had been sighted by her agent, the pink haired girl found that’s was curious about both the cause and effect that the location in question might have on those who frequented this region. An avid researcher of all things ecological, whilst it might have been rude to be doing a little work whilst she waited for her guest, the intrigue that it presented Miss Sequoia was something she found hard to avoid. Besides, with the subject matter at hand, Sophie might just be meeting the perfect person today… Katie Cooper

you'vegotabigheart THAT'S THE WAY YOU SEE THE WORLD Pondering the contents of her print-out Professor Cooper made her way from the League’s home office and labs to the local coffee shop around the corner. One of the office assistance had informed her that there had been a release of new Parapsychological articles and research findings. Being the eager reader, she had engrossed herself accidentally in the work when her alarm had gone off alerting her to her scheduled appointment that afternoon. She had been pulled out of her work quite suddenly and becoming frenzied and flustered realizing the time she hadn’t bothered to set her appearance in order. A messy bundle of red curls still massed at the back of her head, fastened by a couple of pens, and a few miscellaneous highlighter marks randomly placed on her chin from aimless fidgeting. The fledgling Professor walked quickly but unfocusedly as her mind tried to juggle more tasks than she ought to have.
It didn’t help her cause any being surrounded by the affective and telepathic noise of Faraday; the general frenzy of a bustling crowd and the emotional waves that echoed through it battered against the young psychic’s own emotional processing as the telepathic noise drowned her senses in the peripheral of her mind. A ‘normal’ individual, had they been exposed to the sensory overload, would have been left stunned and in need of a session in the sensory deprivation tanks. However, the redhead was used to the constant barrage and though she didn’t process it all too well she knew how to manage within ‘normal’ parameters.
At least until the sidewalk raises itself up to meet the bottom of one’s shoe to yank them unsuspectingly into a state of imbalance where an embrace with the concrete becomes imminent.
With a sharp gasp Katie didn’t have a chance for anything else as her papers flew out of her hand and she made contact with the concrete—right outside the front of the coffee shop.
Well this was is a fine way to make an entrance

“What in the world…?” Thumbing through another, slightly less engaging report when she heard some sort of cry beside her, Sophie turned her head to discover that someone or something had created a blizzard of paper next to the window she was sitting near. Has someone tripped over? Following one of the sheets that danced in the air to the ground and spotting the form of someone who seemed to have dropped to the ground, the sight of fiery auburn hair intrigued the blue eyed beauty and she stood up, smoothing out the ruffled blouse and pencil skirt she was wearing before striding outside to see if she could offer some assistance.
“Goodness, seems that you have experienced a sharp decline in your day~” The long legs of Miss Sequoia making the high and sharp set of heels she was wearing strike the ground like chisels as she made it to the pavement, with a playful comment the pink haired lass stepped over to the strewn papers and bent at her knees and waist, squatting nearby the figure and putting her hand upon the shoulder of the fallen girl. Using the other to fish up some of the papers that had been scattered around and taking tiny steps whilst remaining in her crouching positon, Sophie flashed a smile toward the fallen figure and then realized there was something familiar about those bushy, orange locks.
“Oh my, we’ve only just met and I’m already on my knees…” Giggling and laying out a little flirtation toward the fiery haired figure as she realized that such a defining feature was familiar to her thanks to the quick look she had taken over the Pokémon Leagues online profiles, Sophie realized that almost by accident she had found herself upon the woman she had been meaning to meet.
“I hope I haven’t given you a bad first impression, Professor.” Shining with a soft and welcoming smile as she lifted herself back up to her full height and offered the girl a hand in greeting, as she scanned the features of the redhead’s face Miss Sequoia couldn’t help but find herself happy to see how cute she looked…

you'vegotabigheart THAT'S THE WAY YOU SEE THE WORLD Feeling a gentle touch on her shoulder, Katie flushed immensely as she gathered her pride and sat herself up. A wild mess of curls had dislodged itself and lay about her left shoulder as she grabbed at other papers.
Katie picked up the last few pieces of paper that had been pinned underneath herself and took the delicate hand offered to her “If anyone should be worried about bad first impressions I suppose it would be me getting knocked off my feet,” she dusted herself off avoiding eye contact for the moment still flustered at her lack of grace. Katie was quite prone to being klutzy and it always seemed to strike at the most inopportune of times.
Her embarrassment was tempered by the soft waves of confidence that radiated from the woman in front of her; though the red head didn’t identify the source or cause of the emotional change. She chuckled, smiling brightly up at the pink haired woman as she pushed the haphazard lump of curls back and pulled out four different writings pens from her hair letting the rest fall as she tried to pat them down.
She then offered her hand in a handshake for a proper introduction “I am Professor Cooper but please,” she smiled sincerely hoping that her informality wouldn’t be seen as precocious “call me Katie.”
In truth Katie still wasn’t used to the formality of being a Professor by her education or her job title(s). If someone called her Professor she was usually delayed in responding because she immediately assumed her old mentor or one of her employers where being addressed.

Eyes like pristine spring water… The large gems of Katie’s seeming to immediately grab the attention of Miss Sequoia, whilst her own eyes were blue they tended to be more the colour of sapphires, and the young woman found a quiet appreciation for the paler but no less pleasing tone that her new friend possessed.
It seems she is every bit the beautiful fair maiden her picture implied… In fact, maybe even prettier than I thought? The smile of Sophie carrying a little bit more of her pleasure as she took in the attractive features of the woman she met, the Arcadian Professor couldn’t help but feel a little dazzled by them in person. Her hair a little wild but certainly only improving the girlish looks of the woman opposite, while the ‘style’ of this girl somewhat contrasted her own sleeker emphasis, Sophie found a sense of subtle appeal in it that she envied. It was modest, but had a youth and elegance that felt she had lost herself.
“O-Oh, nice to meet you Katie!” Distracted a little by her envy for the looks of the other woman, with a slightest hint of colour building in her cheeks, Miss Sequoia giggled and corrected her earlier greeting in a friendly manner. “You are, of course, welcome to call me Sophie as well… I don’t much like formality, and I sense from your comment you don’t either?” Largely being playful with her use of the title earlier anyway, Sophie cocked her head to one side as she indicated she too preferred a little less stuffiness between them.
“It is wonderful to finally meet in person, by the way? I always worry if I’m being a little too forward with the ‘gifts’ that I send out, but I can confess to being a little charmed by your reply~” Running her hands up the sheets that she had gathered for the girl and then lightly tapping them on the window nearby to straighten them up, the pink haired girl offered what she had managed to gather with a little more flirtation, showing off perhaps a little of her interest in both the beauty and brains she had seen in Katie so far.
“Now then, how about we forget about that little accident and head inside? I’m sure you could use a drink after coming all this way…” Feeling a kind of impulse to take the lead with her guest, perhaps because she was older or knew her way around a little better, Sophie gestured to the door of the café now that the scene outside had been dealt with for the most part. A hand of hers almost unconsciously moving an inch or two behind the waist of the shorter redhead to kind of guide and steady the girl as she headed inside, a part of Miss Sequoia felt keen at the idea of having this cute and fiery haired femme all to herself…

you'vegotabigheart THAT'S THE WAY YOU SEE THE WORLD Telepathy is a fun little quirk at times and at others it’s incredibly inconvenient; especially when meeting new people and one has not disclosed the characteristic that made the young professor an oddity. The way Katie’s telepathy worked was a constant flow of noise coming into her reservoir and no way for her to shut the gates. On the rare occasion she had met one Subject who had a stable control of their telepathy and they were able to close their mind off from the flow, Katie had been unable to open if from outside. Non-psychic individuals were unaware of the network of information flowing from and around them, and as one such person that was unable to disconnect Katie occasionally, accidentally had front row seats to some of the intimate thoughts of the people around her. She did always make a diligent effort though to shove the noise into the ‘peripheral’ so that it would blend into a cacophony of mental garble.
However, in the instance of being flustered and meeting Miss Sequoia, what control Katie did have on her telepathy had been released and Katie had a momentary front row seat to her new companion’s mind and thoughts. Katie’s flush grew mildly redder but as she respectfully pushed Miss Sequoia’s presence back into the recess of her peripheral she didn’t outwardly show any signs of awareness. It was perfectly normal human psychology to appraise an individual upon meeting them. Katie found herself admiring the young woman’s beauty herself as she took note of the soft flush to Sophie’s pale cheeks and how her sapphire eyes made a brilliant contrast.
She nodded eagerly to the woman, taking the offered papers “Yes, the formalities of the professional environment can be quite tedious and I haven’t grown accustomed to my own name being tossed around with the rest of the academic field just yet,” she explained being distracted by a fifth pen that she had missed becoming tangled in her curls
“Pardon me,” she said mildly aggravated at the pen and fished it out “guess that is what I get for forgetting my hair clip at home,” her nervous chuckle was light and vibrant.
“It is a pleasure to meet you in person Sophie, your gifts are nestled warmly in my lab overlooking the meadow near my back yard. Their hatch day is eagerly awaited and I hope they appreciate the serenity of my little haven,” she let Sophie take the lead and gently guide her inside, silently grateful for the steadying hand.
She did a good job of playing her disoriented state off but paired with the mild hints of pleased appreciation and perhaps a hint of wanting Katie’s overall state of balance was off. Not knowing the emotional affect, the woman beside her was having upon Katie’s own emotional physiology.
“Yes, let’s put that little kerfuffle to rest…I hope I didn’t interrupt you from anything?” she asked taking a seat across from where Sophie had sat before the commotion.

“Ah, nothing that can’t wait, I’m sure… The matter of making your acquaintance seemed a far more urgent need, Katie?” Smiling confidently as she slipped into her own seat and looked across the table toward her coffee companion, Sophie pressed the back of her fingers against the outside of her mug and was pleased to feel that it had kept rather warm whilst she had been away. The coffee house seeming to have been hardly disturbed by the little accident outside it, people seemed to continue their introverted tasks and quiet conversations as Miss Sequoia beckoned for one of the waitresses toward her to take the order of her redheaded friend.
“Whatever Miss Cooper wants can go on my tab, Marissa~” Flashing a smile at the young woman who approached them and showing her companion that this was not the first time that she had visited this particular place since moving to Faraday, Sophie quietly tried to restrain her excitement and the urge to begin chattering away as Katie was offered a menu and the chance to order a little bit of refreshment. Choosing instead to take a moment to marvel at the girlish features of her fellow femme again before their attendant wandered off with her notepad, the pink haired one of the pair brought her elbows up to the edge of the table and wrapped her hands together, resting her nose on her bridged fingers as she tried to remain patient.
“Heeheehee, so… How are you finding your new position? Are you from Veria originally or did you move here?” The enthusiasm of Miss Sequoia finally breaking free now that the matter of their drinks had been settled and their temporary company had departed, with a grin of elation Sophie delved headlong into a spot of small talk with the amber haired maiden in front of her. Feeling rather giddy and perhaps part of that due to the knowledge that she had the chance to make friends with a fellow femme, the Arcadian woman felt a little bit like a schoolgirl suddenly and had an urge to be a bit gossipy with her new companion…

you'vegotabigheart THAT'S THE WAY YOU SEE THE WORLD Both the young women at the table where unaware of how Sophie’s confidently giddy excitement absorbed into the vivacious red head. Katie listened to Sophie with wide blue eyes with a soft admiring wonderment. She was graceful, she was poised, and she was eloquently articulate.
She flushed a little more at the woman’s suggestion that meeting her was viewed by her peer as an ‘urgent’ matter. There hadn’t been many people in her short life thus far that had found making Katie’s acquaintance an urgent matter. If she were to ruminate on the feelings Miss Sophie’s sentiment fostered it would have been realizing that it made her feel special, even valuable in a way. What a novel concept?
“You are very kind,” she said with a gentle smile “I too was eager to arrive and…well we know what happens when I get a little distracted and am in a hurry,” she let out a soft nervous chuckle at the self-deprecating comment. The nervousness again was washed away by a wave of confidence and she graciously accepted Sophie’s offer.
She skimmed over the menu for a moment and found a beverage that caught her eye “I would like an Earl Grey Latte please…extra hot and extra sweet.” She handed her menu back to the young woman; Marissa, was it? “Thank you, Marissa,” she said offering up a pleasant smile in exchange for the young woman’s attentiveness. She adjusted her black blazer, making sure it wasn’t crooked and then clasped her hands in her lap, resting back against the back of her chair.
Katie was dressed in a smart looking black blazer that rested atop a burgundy blouse with a low neckline, however what would have been revealing on the young woman was modestly brought up with the suggestion of black lace. She also wore a pair of black slacks finished off with a pair of black ballet flats. Fortunately, her earlier stumble had not disheveled her ensemble too much.
Katie looked back up at the soft laughter of the woman in front of her “Oh, well…it’s all both familiar and foreign at the same time. I came in with some mild research proposals but now it’s at the stage where I begin to flesh them out more for the second stage of appraisal.” Not wanting to potentially bore her companion she moved to the next question…which sort of informed the first one. “I have only been in Veria for a little over a month now…I moved from Kanto upon completion of my Master’s degree. There are some other details but it can become a little tedious.”

Rarely the type of person who tended to dress casually and at times showing somewhat of a sense of vanity, Miss Sequoia enjoyed the odd spot of retail therapy spent in nice boutiques and usually liked to wear things that emphasized some of her finer assets such as her long, slender legs and pert behind. Arriving for this friendly meeting looking like she might have come straight from the office, she sat in the casual setting wearing a black short sleeved blouse with a ruffled feel around the shoulders and neck, a white pencil skirt that had a ruffled edge along with a light pair of stockings that were barely noticeable and more there to keep her long legs warm, along with a cute pair of black stiletto shoes that had a bow just above the bridge of the foot. A black satin ribbon worn in her hair to keep the majority of her locks back, aside from the long bang that often obscured her right eye, it was tied at the back of the neck and looked rather like an Alice band, lending a hint of girlishness to her more mature choice of outfit. “Oh yes, I can certainly understand how one can feel a little taken aback at first? You start with big ideas but then the task of justifying them and the funds they may need with research proposals can make things feel like a rolling snowball, can’t it?” Never one to rush through issues, especially when she found herself with the impression that the experience she had might be helpful to an ‘underclassmen’, Sophie shone a gentle smile at the girl sympathetically as she sensed she might be feeling a little out of her depth. Leaning back a little way in her chair as she continued, the situational sempai lightly rested her index finger on her lip as she remembered her first days and weeks in a similar position to Katie’s. The corner of her lips curling as she restrained a small giggle, Miss Sequoia felt a little bit proud as she remembered the way she had found herself out of depth back then and how far she had come now. “To be honest, one of the reasons that I switched to a more ‘private’ sector was because it lessened the red tape and that sort of thing? At Arcadia, in many ways I’m my own boss, so I have a bit more freedom, though perhaps the contrasting factor is that the buck tends to end with me if things go wrong?” Shaking her head a little as she recalled a time not more than half a year ago when she was in much the same position as her friend, the Arcadian Professor leaned a little a little closer and spoke a little more lightly as she explained her more recent career choice, feeling a sense of intimacy already with this girl despite barely knowing her. Resting her cheek on her palm gently as she looked into those deep eyes and felt a little compelled to spill a detail or two more than she might with a stranger, she laughed off the little remark about feeling the heavy weight of responsibility as she had thankfully not made any huge mistakes so far. “So, a Kanto girl by birth? Do you mind if I ask where you’re from in the region?” The flow of the conversation interrupted when Marissa returned with the drink that Katie had ordered for herself, Sophie licked her lips lightly as she considered the region which the redhead called home, and was rather excited by what she had been told. “I spent a time touring both Kanto and Johto a few years back, so who knows… Perhaps we passed each other in the street once upon a time without realizing?” The memories of the time that Miss Sequoia had spent in the region flooding her mind, the pink haired girl slipped back a little way into her chair and lifted her head up as her head was flooded with images of places like the cities of Celadon and Viridian as well as the great bicycle bridge and Mount Moon. Giving a light hum as she scoured what she could recall but could not managing to conjure an image of that brilliant hair and beautiful eyes back then, Sophie found herself a little disappointed that she might have ‘missed out’ on meeting this girl at that earlier opportunity. “Though, I hope you don’t mind my being bold enough to confess that if we did, I’m now regretful to think that I hadn’t remember those pretty eyes of yours~?” Forgetting that feeling of minor dissatisfaction quickly, however, now that she had that same person if front of her, with a small and girlish giggle Miss Sequoia found herself being playful with the woman in front of her. Perhaps emboldened by the slight feeling of control that she held over the conversation and maybe wondering how the cutie in front of her might respond to some gentle teasing, Sophie bit into her lip a little and then grinned at her intellectual companion, hoping she hadn’t been too forward with her cheekiness…

you'vegotabigheart THAT'S THE WAY YOU SEE THE WORLD Katie’s shoulder’s relaxed as she realized the established woman in front of her was able to relate with the stresses that came with role Katie had found herself extraordinarily in. An orphan from the Viridian Forest raised in a foster home and then swept up into the academic field based on the talents she possessed. Katie was still trying to collect herself after the metaphorical whirlwind her life had been for the last 6 years and it was still going.
Though sitting here in this little café with Sophie, Katie felt that frenzied storm yield. If she had to think about it, it was as if the energy from Sophie quieted the peripheral noise…this was probably something the young redhead would reflect on later. There was just the peacefulness of the moment, connecting with a person that felt familiar and yet one had never met before. It comforting thinking that she might have found someone in this massive sea of new and unusual that might be able to steer her rickety boat into a harbor. Katie listened and nodded in agreement as Sophie spoke, enjoying the lightness of the woman’s voice as well as her eager engagement. Katie found it reminiscent of when she would get swept away on a tangent and she appreciated the young woman’s fervor.
“Yes, I would imagine that the private sector would allow for such liberties but also carries that risk factor should something go wrong,” she tilted her head to the left appraising the woman playfully “though Miss Sophie, I wouldn’t be too terribly surprised that, should something unfortunate befall you or your practice, that you would be the best one suited for handling the ordeal with a finesse that most corporations only wish they could obtain.” The statement bore both a playful suggestion as well as a vote of confidence in her companion. It was blatantly clear to Katie, through her intuition, that Sophie was a proficient and talented authority in her field and in the handling of one’s personal affairs; she exuded a naturally authentic confidence that Katie only wished she possessed. Maybe someday?
Katie thanked Marissa as she returned with her beverage and Katie wrapped her fingers around the base of the cup to both test the temperature as well as warm her fingers. She frequently found her fingers to be cold, especially with the soft winter chill still clinging to the air. It was the perfect temperature but Katie would wait for the teabag to steep a little longer for a deeper brew.
As Sophie sat up a little pondering the Kantonian region, Katie again brushed the telepathic connection away finding that she had slipped back in from a subconscious curiosity, and leaned in to the table as she fiddled with a napkin ring. It was almost as if there was an unspoken pull between the two, if Katie sat back Sophie seemed to lean into the table and if Sophie withdrew it tugged the red head in closer. “Hmmm, it is possible…I was studying at the Saffron University about three years ago for my undergrad then moved to Lavender Town to work with the newly established branch of Conscientiology and Paraphysiology while I studied for my Master’s…I was a professor’s aid and heavily involved as a subject in some of the research there. Before attending University I grew up in Viridian City on the outskirts of the forest.” As she spoke Katie’s tone was more reflective, she was aware of the light flirtation but she didn’t immediately address it; finding it to be a playful stringing along of sorts as the subconscious empathy applied Sophie’s teasing to Katie’s own temperament.
She then paused, picking up her cup and taking a cautionary sip as she made eye contact with the woman in front of her, those sapphire eyes had an intriguing mischievous glint that Katie’s own light blue mirrored, a flushed smile spreading across her lips as she returned her cup to the table.
“I think if you had come across me during my earlier days I would have been too oblivious to notice…its better that our first meeting is in the present…I was an awkward little bird with my head buried in too many sources. Now I can appreciate the company of such a bodacious, intellectual mind without being distracted by a Professor burying me in assignments.”

’Bodacious’, eh? The brow of Miss Sequoia arching and the corners of her lips curling a little bit higher at the words her companion chose, perhaps it was a little vain of her but the stylish young woman couldn’t help but feel a hint of happiness that her good looks had been noted. Blessed with a beauty that on some level she thought of as a shame to waste, the knowledge that this factor was being noticed brought Sophie a share of happiness, as did the redness that coloured Katie’s face.
She’s even cuter when she blushes… Staying quiet for a moment as she looked at how the redness that shone from her fellow professor only seemed to offer the amber haired maiden a stronger sense of appeal, for the moment Sophie fought the urge to ‘continue’ down the naughty little path she had created as she didn’t want to press her luck.
“Goodness, such kind words… No wonder you managed to make such a good impression on your teacher with such talent in flattery~” Giggling lightly as her own cheeks shone with colour, Miss Sequoia opted to be coy with her companion as she brushed away the compliment that had been offered. Knowing that they were largely here for ‘business’ rather than pleasure, the pink haired girl had to remind herself not to get too carried away with the playful behaviour she found came so easily to her.
“It’s possible we did cross paths in Saffron then, it was about three years ago I was there… After leaving University I decided to take a gap year that became a couple of years longer than that?” Absentmindedly pulling her hand up from her cheek and behind her ear as she opted to focus on other details to distract herself, as Sophie recanted a detail or two of her own past she found that she was lightly toying with the hair before resting her hand on her neck gently.
“And Viridian? Is the forest where you found your first Pokémon? I remember how big it is, I hope you didn't get lost there?” Intrigued by this young lady without ever even considering the subject in which she specialized, Miss Sequoia found herself carried away by the small talk before even delving into the ‘meat’ that was her professorship, keen on finding out everything that she could about the delicate dish sitting before her…

you'vegotabigheart THAT'S THE WAY YOU SEE THE WORLD Katie again pushed Sophie’s mental connection away, mentally taking it and placing it within a box. This sort of exercise helped Katie focus more on the person than the curiosities that popped up within a mind, it wasn’t fool proof but it helped.
At Sophie’s playful insinuation of Katie’s merits being based around flattery she shook her head worried she had given the wrong impression. “Oh no nothing like that…usually I stumble over my own words and I seriously doubt they would have given me any attention based on what I said,” she tapped her left temple “I was usually there to be seen and not heard due to the nature of the work.”
For a moment the subconscious impact of her affective empathy receded giving Katie a reminder of her own nerves and awkwardness; due to the nature of the conversation though Katie didn’t make the connection that her emotional shifts where due to this interaction. The shifts happened seamlessly without any indicators, though from time to time Katie was emotionally aware of her own state of being that she was able to place shifts if there was a blatant display from another party nearby. It didn’t dawn on her that Sophie’s coy, confident, playfulness fed into her own personality and the two blended together in such a way that the mild flirtation occurred. Katie may have thought it on a typical day but her own shyness would have never permitted her to speak it. It was all truly genuine expression on Katie’s part though.
Katie’s nerves soothed again watching the woman in front of her engage in the relaxed idle fidgeting of her hair. It gave Katie the affirmation that she had not acted excessively brazen…that was a relief.
She focused again on Sophie’s straining her memory…the woman did seem familiar in a way, like the passing of a familiar face on the street but not entirely knowing the person the face belonged to. “Your face does have a shred of familiarity to it…I had so much crammed in my head though at the time…and there were certain…uhm…tests…that make those years relatively foggy. Sometimes I wonder how I remembered my assignments.” She shrugged lightly sitting up straight again “three years seems like such a short time but also feels like it was an eternity. “ her eyes dropped to her hands that where clasped on her lap, a reflective expression on the young woman’s face
Katie didn’t go into detail about the case studies she had been the subject of while she attended college, those studies with the Doctors left memory gaps and it really was a miracle that she had maintained college in the way that she had; those experiences where what encouraged her to pursue proper study applications instead of taking blank shots in the dark. The mention of Viridian drew her out of her mind and back to the woman in front of her, a gentle smile spread across her lips again; but when she spoke her voice had a tinge of sadness to it.
“I didn’t travel into the forest if I could avoid it. There were some unnatural occurrences of pokemon that were not native to the area appearing within the woods over the last two decades. The rangers did their best to keep it rather quiet though…the Professor’s where unable to determine the cause except for maybe a shift in migratory patterns. However, it is Viridian Forest and I wouldn’t be too surprised based on its ferocity that it may just be the change of a biome.”

“Goodness, you must have rather the powerful memory if you can pull up the image of a passer-by, even one as fetching as I am~?” Somewhat sceptical about the ability of the girl to recall her but impressed if she was telling the truth, with a giggle and hint more playfulness Sophie lifted up her own cup and took a sip of the warm contents. Not the type of girl who went in much for coffee and actually sipping on the sweetness of a foamy hot chocolate, the young woman dragged her bottom lip across the top one after she had finished drinking in order to mop up any possible ‘moustache’ that her frothy choice of beverage might have inflicted upon her before she continued.
“Oh? Did the forest have different specimens before that?” The notion that the fauna of the woodland through which she had once travelled had been altered in some way news to Miss Sequoia, the information made her regret the fact that she had simple slipped through the green realm and not paid more attention to it. “Goodness, as a student of ecosystems, I am embarrassed to have not looked into that!” Possessing an expertise in ecology, while she wasn’t exactly a professor during those times, she certainly would have liked the chance to study what had brought about such a change. Largely, she had assumed that the bugs and birds she found were the natural inhabitants of such a land; after all, they hadn’t seemed particularly out of place?
“Though I suppose having made your acquaintance, perhaps if I ever wanted to visit the region and needed a guide, I could always take you along as my local expert?” Smirking to herself as she imagined a scene of herself and her fiery maned peer delving through the woodland with nets and magnifying glasses, Sophie chuckled gently to herself at the notion and shook her head.
“Although it might be a bit of a waste of your talents, I suppose… Heeheehee, forgive me, you’re so cute and unassuming that I almost forgot that I'm not talking to a prospective new assistant or something!” Suddenly realizing she might have been making light of Katie’s ability and advancement into academics, Miss Sequoia offered a small apology for her playfulness. Perhaps fooled by the youthful looks of her companion and not quite realizing that little more than a year in age separated them, it seemed easy for Sophie to forget she was talking to a full blown professor and not one of the modest young assistants she had back at her lab.

you'vegotabigheart THAT'S THE WAY YOU SEE THE WORLD “It’s more like a muscle memory or a…a feeling of familiarity. If you ever have a dream and recognize a face from it but you quite can’t place where you saw them it’s usually a face your subconscious memory picks out from a crowd. The subconscious psyche is truly remarkable in the details it remembers… a deja vu if you will.” She sipped on her drink thoughtfully “But again…I cannot be too certain,” she felt the inclination to tease again but she let it rest for the moment as the conversation turned to more scholarly matters.
“I honestly wouldn’t be the best person to know, I was four when the first incidents started to occur and then my family was so large I was kept busy until sixteen when I left for Saffron; though if you ever did need a personal guide I would be obliged to accompany you.” She highly doubted she could be of any particular use in the forest. She hadn’t returned in recent years to know how much the stress of what happened there would affect her. She hated to admit there might be one place her fear might prevent her from going but there was a reason why she was so far away.
She had her Munna recently to help with the resurfacing of the trauma and to take away the dreams that plagued her some nights.
Sophie’s girlish laugh centered Katie back again and she flushed her own genuine shyness peeking through “Ah well, it hasn’t been more than a couple of months since I transitioned from the position of assistant. I wouldn’t be surprised if I still carry those habits with me. So I can’t really fault you for that…it was what I was known most for, along with some other oddities.”
She looked at Sophie with a keen interest going back to her mentions of being a student of ecosystems. This intrigued the new professor as some of her research was tying back to environments and their impact on psychic traits. Thought she wasn’t sure just how specific her expertise was. May as well do a little digging that had been the purpose of their afternoon meeting after all.
“So just what exactly does your area of expertise and research cover? You mentioned that you studied ecosystems…I am curious if you apply that to just Pokemon or if it goes beyond that.” She paused for a moment thinking it sounded a bit…presumptuous? Well maybe not but Katie felt the need to expound a little “What I mean is my own research is trying to synthesize environmental effects as well as psychological effects that might inform how the psychic traits manifest, not just in pokemon but people as well…”

“Heeheehee, all the same… I feel like it diminishes what you have made of yourself a little, so for that I feel I should apologize…” Happy to discover that Katie once again hadn’t taken offense to one of the more foolish parts of her conversation but still feeling that she should be taking the woman in front of her a little more seriously, Sophie lowered her stature a little and bowed her head to the blue eyed cutie opposite her, hoping her often seen playfulness did not undermine the sincerity of her gesture. Knowing all too well the difficulties one might find when finding oneself in a position of power at a young age, the pink haired girl wanted her peer to know she held in her a much higher level of respect than so far she had shown.
“My expertise? Well, I study matters of ecology and how that affects the development of Pokémon? The natural assumption is that the many, many species of Pokémon we have now once stemmed from a single breed that diversified for a variety of reasons, the most logical of which being to suit the environment they choose to live in?” The question of her companion seeming to flip a switch in the mind of Sophie, in an instant she moved away from the more playful and flirtatious sides of her personality and into something more suited to her intellectual standing.
“I’d like to see if this process of diversification is ongoing? The scientific community seems to be discovering new species of Pokémon all the time, even new types of Pokémon… Is that because we are simply overlooking things or is something about these creatures as a whole compelling them to continue to adapt and change.” Gushing orally as she vented notions that she tended to keep largely contained due to the fact that a great many minds couldn’t keep up with them, while Miss Sequoia retained her smile and sense of charm, it was added to with a much greater sense of enthusiasm than she had shown so far. Seeming a little like a child who had been asked by a parent or teacher about their favourite toy or television show, Sophie’s eyes were wide and words seemed to spew from her mouth almost uncontrollably as she spoke about her scientific specialization with quite a bit of gusto.
“The evidence presented by regional variants such as those seen in Alola seems to imply that these creatures have a supernatural capacity acclimatise to their surroundings, so it makes sense that their speciation is a matter of ecology… If we can identify the factors that influence them, we may not only be able to predict some of the outcomes but maybe even guide the development of certain Pokémon? Imagine being able to breed out undesirable traits such as aggression or help at risk species survive by providing them with the right traits needed to make them successful again?” Pausing only to lift her sweet drink to her lips in order to wet her mouth and throat before she continued again, Sophie didn’t even notice the fact that she was now practically leaning all the way across the table as the full degree of her mania for the subject of Pokémon development was revealed.
“We might even be able to create our very own brand new species if we can make sense of the mysteries! Pokémon with perfect tendencies to shape the world! Once we figure it out, we’ll certainly be in for some exciting times!” Arms spread wide like she was giving a talk to a classroom full of bright eyed students or something, Miss Sequoia was practically shaking with fervour when the flow of her words finally began to ebb away, sinking back into her seat in a more energized mood than ever as she eagerly awaited to see what Katie might make of her speech…
