juneau sola delaney
female / lesbian
Juneau is 5'2", small and short with a scrawny build. She was born sickly so she's as weak as she looks, accustomed though she is to physically stress. Her brown, often shoulder-length (though she sometimes grows it out) hair frames her rounded face, which have snub features that are typically characterized as cute. Her expression, though, is almost always set in a sneaky smile, which is dissonant with her otherwise innocent face. Her eyes are dark, but they flash red under light and in photographs.
Juneau's wardrobe consists of comfortable clothing that allow for mobility. She has a penchant for skirts, though, to Yakan's eternal chagrin. Her most prized accessory is a long, hand-knit red scarf. No matter the weather, no matter the event, it can always be found looped around her neck.
Juneau was born at the end of the world.
It could have been a war, it could have been a change in climate, it could have been a legendary's whim—it doesn't matter. All that matters is that it was a sudden, unprecedented cataclysm that felled civilization in an instant, just a couple months before her birth. Her father didn't make it out alive but her mother did, and she managed to join a group of survivors who set up camp in the ruins of Faraday. She was born there a sickly baby due to the stress, both physical and mental, of her poor mother. Most thought she would die within a week. She lived.
But she was always weak, weaker than the rest. As Juneau grew, she found that she wasn't able to keep up the rest in hunting, foraging, and fighting over supplies with other survivor groups. She came to be seen as a burden, especially since she was the youngest child in the group. Her mother, the only person who defended her, died from a skirmish, and then Juneau was left all alone.
Juneau's aura power manifested at eight years old. She could see traces of aura in the surrounding environment, and she could have grown to become a tracker essential to the group's survival if her abilities had been encouraged. When she tried to tell the others, though, she was laughed. No one believed her. Though resentful, she learned to shut up and practice tracing auras in her own time.
When she was ten years old, the camp was set upon by bandits. They were unable to overwhelm the camp, though, so they kidnapped Juneau as they retreated. They tried to ransom her for the camp's supplies. The camp refused the offer. No one wanted to bring Juneau back.
The bandits dumped her outside the ruins of the city and went away, looking for another group they could try to pillage. Night fell and, again, Juneau was alone.
And then Yakan came.
He didn't have a name at the time, though. He was just a feral, hungry Honedge, looking to absorb the life force from the few living beings he could find. He stumbled upon Juneau, who was sleeping fitfully on the ground, and wrapped his blue cloth around her wrist.
Her life force tasted like blood and rust and fire and ice. He pulled away immediately, stunned by the sensation, as Juneau woke up.
"Were you trying to kill me?" she asked. He tilted his body down in a nod.
"Well, everyone has to eat," she said. She was calm. "But I don't want to die. So, how about this? I know where a bunch of people are that you can eat. I'll take you to them, and in return you won't kill me."
He nodded again. Juneau traced the auras of the bandits, and within a day they were both feasting—the Honedge on the bandits' life forces, and Juneau on their hoarded supplies.
After they both had their fill, Juneau made another offer. "Why don't you come with me? I can find people and you can hunt them. We'd be a good team."
He accepted. And henceforth the two of them roamed the region side by side, their only goal to survive each day. Juneau named the Honedge Yakan and taught him to read and write, so that he could write messages on the ground for her. This was rarely necessary, though, as the two of them developed a sort of mutual understanding. Yakan quickly evolved to a Doublade due to the the daily fights he engaged in, and then to an Aegislash when Juneau scavenged a Dusk Stone from the ruins of another city. Life went on.
One day, on her nineteenth birthday (not that she kept track of that), Juneau and Yakan found a spacetime rift. It was tiny, almost too tiny seen, but Juneau sensed it easily with her keen aural senses. It shimmered in the air before them, pulsing with opportunity. Yakan took a gamble to rip the rift further with his blade. It worked, tearing large enough for the two of them to slip inside.
"Let's go in," Juneau said. "Whatever's on the other side, it can't be worse than here."
In they went, and here they are today.
Pokedex Name: Aegislash Nickname: Yakan Gender: Male Ability: Stance Change Moveset: King's Shield, Sacred Sword, Iron Head, Swords Dance, Autotomize, Iron Defense, Shadow Sneak, Brutal Swing (TM) Personality: Yakan is a control freak. He expects his sphere of influence to fall absolutely over every living being that comes his way, and he's surprised when everything doesn't go his way. He seeks to crush all resistance to his tyranny, no matter what the cost.
Yakan and Juneau have a well-oiled partnership that makes the best use of their strengths and covers their weaknesses. Juneau tracks and Yakan kills. This, however, is undermined by a constant power struggle between them where Yakan attempts to take control of Juneau and Juneau attempts to rein in Yakan. It's a dangerous game.
Faller (1) — Juneau hails from a post-apocalyptic version of this world, where civilization has fallen into ruins, the environment is a wasteland, and people and Pokemon alike are struggling and failing to survive.
Aura Tracking (major - 2) — Juneau has keen aural senses honed over the years from hunting down scattered, roving people and Pokemon in her home world. She is capable of seeing even the smallest traces of aura spanning several days, and she can also use personal belongings with strong aura deposits to sleuth out even an unfamiliar target with ease. She can distinctly identify the desired trail in areas with moderate traffic with minor difficulty.
Survival Skills — In a brutal world like the one she came from, a broad range of certain skills, knowledge, and smarts are key to survival. Even without Yakan's help, Juneau knows how to thrive in harsh environments and situations on her own.
Cool Head — If Juneau was the kind of person who panicked in a high-pressure, high-stakes situation, she wouldn't be here today. In her home world, pretty much every day was dangerous, so she has since learned to keep a cool head no matter what.
Clang. Clang. Clang.
It was so odd, seeing Faraday City well and alive. Juneau kept her head tilted up as she strolled through the streets, her eyes reddened with sunlight and glass and steel and clear, clear sky. There were so many people too, walking past her, talking into their oddly lit devices, stepping into and out of cars—working cars—and buildings. So much life. So much aura. Her vision bloomed with color.
Clang. Clang. Clang.
"What a clamor you're making," Juneau complained, glancing behind her. Her Aegislash, Yakan, glared at her with his solitary eye. He continued to bang his shield against the flat of his blade. "You want to hunt that much? You know we can't kill here, Yakan." This comment drew her some odd looks from passerby.
He clanged again, louder this time. "Don't be like that. We might not be able to hunt like we used to, but there's so many more wild Pokemon here. You can take just some of their life force and let them go alive. That's not so bad, is it?"
Yakan was so cute when he sulked. Juneau smirked.
