Jaisen 'Jace' Aurelius
Jace | 21 | Male / Bisexual |
Aleal | Breeder | Breeder |
Appearance
Jace is somewhat shorter than average, standing at only about 5'5", but is quite athletic and works hard to stay fit. He is an avid runner and swimmer and is somewhat proficient at rock climbing, though he prefers that more as a hobby than an actual form of exercise. He is somewhat average in appearance and is what most people would call 'fair' rather than 'handsome'. He has medium length white hair which darkens to a light shade of blue at the tips. He keeps it cut in such a way that it's not in the way while he's working. His eyes are a lavender color, reminiscent of lilacs and he tends to favor blues and whites in his wardrobe, a bit of a cliche since he does tend to favor water and ice type pokemon in his team.
He has a few scars here and there, the sort any average young man with an adventurous spirit might get growing up. Most notably is a long scar on his left leg that he got while trying to climb the tallest waterfall in his hometown when he was ten. He slipped on the wet rocks and cut his leg, as well as earning a few broken bones in the process. That didn't stop him from trying again at age fourteen and managing to succeed, however.
Personality
Jace is analytical and relatively calm, thinking things through before acting; though he is quick to aid his friends when necessary. Hard working and determined, he practices and trains with his pokemon often in order to make up for the fact that he believes most other trainers have more experience than he does. This belief is due to the fact that most of his childhood friends went off to become trainers at age ten, while Jace was stuck at home after falling off the waterfall and unable to join them.
Jace has a deep an interest in ancient history and the mythology surrounding the various legendary pokemon in each region. Though he doesn't consider himself a scholar or archaeologist by any means, he does enjoy reading about ancient civilizations or mythical pokemon and he loves exploring ruins and places that are mentioned in different legends or where ancient artifacts have been located. Though he is well aware that it is very, very unlikely to happen, he does dream of one day discovering a legendary pokemon and, if possible, taming it. It is worth noting that he has a tendency to be annoyed by people teasing him and often gets flustered by it to the point of being unsure if he's being teased or if the teaser is being serious. He is also quite talented at preparing food, though he is particularly good at making desserts and things that are easy to carry and eat while traveling.
History
Growing up surrounded by the canals and waterfalls of Couriway Town, it was only natural that Jace became enamored with water and the creatures that thrived in its depths. As a child, Jace never held any fear of the water and had to be 'rescued' from falling into the canals or ponds on more than one occasion before learning to swim. And once he did, there was no stopping him. Jace would spend every moment of free time he had in or near the water; swimming, fishing and exploring alone or with his group of friends. When he was younger, Jace had never given much thought to what he wanted to do once he was old enough to get his first pokemon. He just knew that whatever it was, it would involve the water and that his first partner should be a water type. Beyond that, he assumed he had time to figure it out as he traveled and learned about what it was he could do.
Unfortunately, Jace's dream of going off on a journey with his friends when they reached the appropriate age was not meant to be. Days before they were supposed to meet the local professor and receive their first pokemon, the boys decided they should try climbing the tallest waterfall in town. Jace, by virtue of drawing the tall straw, was to be the first. He made it a decent way up before the slippery rocks and rushing water got the best of him. He was washed down the falls, earning several broken bones and a severe gash on his left leg. So when the other boys received their pokemon, Jace was stuck in the hospital and unable to join them. He was also denied a partner pokemon by his fretful mother who assumed a pokemon would only cause her son to try leaving home before he was fully healed. So Jace was left apparently trapped in Couriway Town for the foreseeable future. His friends were all too busy training their pokemon to worry about Jace and Jace still had a long way to go before he'd recovered enough to consider becoming a trainer.
During his convalescence, Jace began noticing a strange and altogether worrisome new phenomenon. A strange haze seemed to cloud his vision and even when he closed his eyes people and pokemon were visible as a hazy blue silhouette, appearing like light spots after he'd looked into a bright light and left him feeling lightheaded and dizzy or gave him headaches. When he'd told the doctors and his mother about it, they had run more tests and found nothing out of the ordinary. Since his mother seemed overly concerned that something was terribly wrong, Jace eventually told her that the strange vision had gone away and there was nothing to worry about. Though his mother believed his lies, he had secretly opened up to a nurse who seemed to have some insight to what was going on and she told him that the 'haze' he was seeing was likely the aura of the people and pokemon around him. While he was healing, she would stop in and chat with him, helping him try to learn how to look past the aura and see the world normally and how to lessen the severity of his headaches and dizziness. He struggled with it even after being released from the hospital and his grades in school suffered because he often had to excuse himself from class to go and lie in the nurses office. His mother fretted over him health and he assured her he was fine, and that trying to catch up after missing so much school was what was causing him to feel unwell and struggle with his grades. He continued lessons with the nurse who had originally started to help him, learning that her father was a powerful aura user and that he was willing to teach both of them the art of reading and channeling auras to various ends.
Years passed and Jace had fully recovered from his injuries, though he still struggled to 'turn off' what he had come to call his 'aura vision' from time to time. The lessons he had undertaken with the nurse and her father had helped him tremendously. It no longer gave him frequent headaches and he could see more details in the auras he encountered. Patterns of color stood out to him more and he could, if he tried, see auras through walls (though he could pick out fewer details). He had also discovered that he could 'see' emotional shifts in the auras he was familiar with and learned how to extend his own aura to influence others. This was particularly useful as he had learned quickly how to read his mother's aura and how to utilize his own aura to send her a calming feeling when she was being particularly fretful. But the Aura Master had, sadly passed away and his daughter, in her grief, had asked him not to visit for lessons anymore. Since Jace felt comfortable with what he could do, he saw no reason to press the woman for further training. If he wished to develop his ability further, he could find a new mentor.
He still didn't have a pokemon and was 'too reckless' for his mother's liking to be allowed to consider getting his first partner. Undeterred, Jace still spent his days doing the things he loved most. And one day he terrified his mother (and the rest of town) by deciding to face the waterfall again. At age fourteen, Jace was bigger and stronger than he had been and climbed the waterfall with ease, making it to the top and finding a vast plateau overlooking Vallée Étroite Way. He'd visited the route on several occasions with his parents or friends but had never explored the route alone due to not having a pokemon to protect him should he be attacked. Normally he'd have climbed back down to safety but an unguarded entrance to the old abandoned mine caught his eye and he couldn't resist doing a bit of exploring.
Knowing he was putting himself in grave danger, Jace tentatively entered the forbidden cave. It was quiet and he couldn't see very deep into the cave. But still he ventured forward, curious what he might find within and why the mine had been shut down. He'd heard rumors, of course, that some strange beast had been discovered there. But no one could tell him what the beast was or even what it looked like. Now Jace had a chance to find out for himself. He found a few things of interest, including a strange, rianbow hued rock that he decided to pocket, but was never able to discover what the 'strange beast' was. An Ariados saw him as potentially easy prey and attacked. A nearby Noibat came to his rescue, using flying attacks and Supersonic to distract and confuse the giant spider but not without getting injured in the process. With the Ariados confused for the time being, Jace grabbed the injured Noibat and ran.
He took the Noibat to the pokemon center where it was looked after by the nurses and healed up. He sat through a severe scolding from his mother (including threats of lifelong grounding if he ever did something so stupid again). He also apparently made a friend. The Noibat, though healed and free to return to the cave it had come from, refused to leave town. Even when Jace took it back to the cave and told it that it was free to return to the wild it followed him back home. Jace resigned himself to having the Noibat tag along with him wherever he went. It wasn't until she managed to sneak alone when he went on a trip to Ambrette Town to have his strange rainbow rock looked at by the experts that he decided he would offer to let her join him as his first official pokemon. As it turned out, his strange rock was actually a Key Stone which would allow a trainer to aid his or her pokemon to Mega Evolve. With no pokemon of his own that were capable of mega evolution, Jace decided to travel to Shalour City where he offered it to the 'Mega Evolution Guru' so that it might one day be presented to a trainer capable of calling on the powers of Mega Evolution. In return, they offered him a young Eevee that had wandered into the Tower of Mastery. Injured and weak, it had been captured by the Guru in order to nurse her back to health but he had no time to train the young pokemon and thus was unable to unlock her true potential. At first Jace was reluctant to take her, but when the Guru insisted that it was a thank you gift for bringing the Key Stone to him, Jace found it difficult to argue.
Now that he had two pokemon partners, Jace felt that he was free to roam as he pleased and explore the region in search of some path or purpose to follow. The first place he went was Snowbelle City and the nearby 'pokemon village' where he'd heard there were rumors of rare and powerful pokemon. As he explored the 'pokemon village' he was approached by the otter-like pokemon, Oshawott. The creature seemed to have taken it upon himself to protect the area and challenged Jace to a battle. He refused to fight it because he had no intention of capturing or harming the pokemon that lived there. The Oshawott continued to follow him, however, watching his every move. He did not find anything rare or powerful (at least not to the level the stories had led him to believe) but he did end up with one more pokemon. As he prepared to leave, the otter approached again, though this time he did not seem overly hostile or defensive. Unsure of what he wanted, Jace offered the Oshawott a pokeball. The Oshawott refused until Jace proved himself in a battle. After a brief fight, the Oshawott allowed himself to be captured. With his third pokemon now on his team, Jace did more exploring, visiting places where legendary pokemon were said to have been discovered trying to find proof of their existence. And he was also trying to decide what path he wanted to follow as a pokemon trainer. He still wished to work near the water but found nothing in Kalos that would fit his passions and interests. So he decided to travel beyond the borders of Kalos to a region where he might find what he was looking for. And that region was Veria.

Skills (3/11)
Minor Aura Sight: (1 Point)
The ability to see the world through aura is naturally possessed by everyone with aura power. With higher training, one can even see through walls, view the world while blinded, or even exceed the limits and accuracy of their own human vision. Once a user gains a sense of their own capabilities, aura sight can usually be switched on or off. However, this does vary, and some users may experience a constant haze over their normal vision that requires effort to tune out, while others might need to focus to 'switch it on'.
Minor Aura Sight grants the user the capacity to see the world from a more out of body perspective, being able to see around corners, through walls, and with their eyes closed with a low but discernible degree of detail. The greater the obstacles between a person and their target, the hazier things become, with human sized Pokémon potentially being mistaken for humans and vice versa. A Minor can strain for a short time to see about 50% farther with their Aura Sight than they can see normally (or than an average person could see if the user is blind). Additionally, a Minor's vision has become acute enough to notice distinct patterns or color combinations in a person's Aura. As such, they could easily recognize close friends or family from aura alone, though recognizing people with which one is less familiar can still be challenging, and auras with similar qualities may be impossible to tell apart.
Minor Reading Emotions: (1 Point)
This ability allows a user to detail the subtle shifts in a person’s aura and grasp their meaning in terms of emotions. Unlike a psychic Empath, an Aura Reader cannot experience the emotion, but only observes them, as if reading them from a book. As such, they can sometimes be more objective than an Empath, unbiased by sharing the feeling, but may also miss some more subtle distinctions, such as whether anger comes from offense or protectiveness, etc.
Emotion Reader Minors are those trained to see the subtle details and shifts in color and form of a person’s aura. They have the general knowledge and sight to detail broader emotions, but may miss the more subtle differences. Therefore, a sway of nostalgia could be misread as sadness or a streak of anxiety might be misread as irritated anger. One will not, however, mistake pride for fear or anger for joy; the proper direction and strength of emotion will at least be accurate. Subtle undertones may or may not go unnoticed when feelings on an issue are mixed.
Minor Aura Channeling: (1 Point)
The ability to expend and manipulate aura in positive or negative ways, giving it away or at higher levels taking it from others. Aura Channeling draws inspiration from the effectively-gods of Aura, Xerneas and Yveltal, giving off positive or negative vibes, healing or stealing bits of life. Expending it to heal drains the wielder's aura and requires time to recover and allow it to replenish. When aura transfers between two parties, the recipient sometimes receives a brief disorienting feeling and sense of "who" the giver "is", though it is only a flash of an impression and difficult to recall after just a few seconds.
A Channeling Minor can project an invisible field of aura (or visible if they choose to combine it with Projection, though having both doesn't necessitate visibllity) in order to give of an overall positive/calming vibe or a negative/unnerving one. These feelings are very subtle, but just enough to add or take off a bit of edge in many situations. This aura is not expended, merely extended out from one's body in roughly a 10 foot (3 meter) radius.
