A small girl, one who looked like they were still looking forward to reaching to her first double-digit birthday, was tapping away at a reasonably nice looking laptop on a park bench. The sight itself wasn't a particularly strange one, these days children of all walks of life carried around tech that would have seemed an extreme luxury not too long ago. Perhaps far more strange was honestly the couple of books that were also set nearby. "Carrefor and the Occult", "At the Doorstep of Infinity", and a particularly well worn smaller title called, "The Festival of the Dead!" Despite the morbid sort of title, the third seemed to be a children's book in comparison to the other more dense reads, and it was this book that was wide open. Harper, the "kid" in question looked away from her computer, sighing a bit at the contents of the book. The page was open showing an illustration of children all marching in line, walking in colorful costumes with fun looking decorations about. A sweet and playful was written on it, but the girl didn't seem to be reading it. No, in fact she didn't seem to really be even truly looking at the book. Her elbow was against the table, her hand pushing up against one of her cheeks as she leaned over the picnic style table. Someone was in a mood now, wasn't she? A few other people were in the park, but it was otherwise still decently early in the morning. One was an old woman who had smiled wide at Harper and waved, but she had missed it while she had been busy brooding. She glanced up and sighed a bit. The trip to Carrefor so far was a bust. She had met with two contacts already and neither had proven much use. The only useful tip she had gotten was from the old lady who smelled of too much incense. She rubbed her cheek a little bit, remembering the first time she had met the cooky fortune teller. Cheek pinching should be illegal. "A strange girl who fell, huh.." She had heard whispers of people, thrown from faraway places and ending up far away from home.. this old woman, in particular, had been fond of the stories. Her father had always taken stock in them, and she had been pouring through his notes... but he hadn't really come to anything conclusive. No, just a lot of interviews with potential people and statements from a few people like the lady with wandering fingers. There wasn't anything particularly substantial to note.. they really only had the word and hunches of people. It had been enough for him. "She probably isn't here anyway." Although a few people she talked to mentioned the strange sight she was looking for. A girl wearing cat ears.. the idea was kinda.. cute.. Harper really wanted to see her. Roxanne Doppelganger
(Was originally going to have her spot you, but decided to do that next post so you could set up anything you wanted. I'm super rusty and still working out some of the kinks of my portrayl of the character, so bare with me. ♥)

(Roxanne sighed, dragged here against her will. But Dawnie wanted to come here. To this park, that weird woman's perfume still in her nose. Roxanne petted the brown bone baring beast. The quicker she finished with this, the sooner they could get home. And get back to cleaning the cabin.
The blue eyed woman looked around. A lock of rose gold hair fell into her vision and she groaned. Getting it back out of her face WITHOUT moving the ears is tricky. Too tricky for her limited patience so it's left where it is. The Cubone gestured over at someone settled on a bench table.
Roxanne peered over, shielding her eyes from the sun. That can't be right. That girl can't be more than ten years old. And even that is stretching it. A stack of books on offputting topics confirmed what the Cubone already knew. The Vulpix that had finished her investigation of the park barked in excitement. She bounced up and down on the grass, grass frozen in her excitement.
"Sybel, calm down," Dawnie said, cheeks flared under the skull. "But I'm so excited," Sybel chirped. "Roxanne can find out more about her past and we can become BETTER friends." "We don't know that," Dawnie growled. "Could be a bunch of-"
Roxanne grabbed his muzzle, silencing him before he gathered MORE attention. Having learned the hard way, people refused to believe the Pokemon are only talking. Roxanne knows the two are like a couple of siblings. That they are not about to battle and cause damage to the park.
She knew that public places frown upon battles. Her duo have yet to learn that. Their friendly discussions believed by humans as battle cries. No matter how she explained it. Roxanne dragged the belligerent beast over to the table. Roxanne offered her hand out to the youngster, a friendly smile on her face.
"You....you wanted to meet me? I guess?"

She practically jumped out her seat on the park bench, apparently so busy brooding that she missed the very person she was hoping to see walk right up to her.
"H-Hey!" she stammered out more excited than nervous, reaching and gripping her hand with both of hers and shaking it. She seemed to light up a bit, getting out of whatever doldrums she had been in just now.
"Uh-huh! That's me! Please sit down!" she energetically pats the seat next to her, grinning in a goofy and full manner. "It's so cool to see you, this is literally like, the best thing I could have hoped for." She transferred her big ol' smile to the Pokemon next to her, giving them full attention for a moment. "Aw, cuties! They look really friendly too! I really like the hat!" She seemed to be looking right at Cubone when she said this, at least giving a clue that their bone helmet is what she meant. Attention quickly shifted back to Roxanne without much of a break to get a word in before she energetically pat the seat next to her, again offering for her to take a load off.
Her voice hadn't betrayed her true age, it sounded every bit the same chirpy, small, and slightly nasally voice that one would expect. She leaned forward on the rather large picnic table and made small stretching sounds as she gathered her books and devices strewn all about and collected them a more organized pile. The formerly wide-open children's book was still open on the same page, however, if she had wandering eyes. Still enthusiastic as she excitedly cleaned up her toys, before turning to the girl she hoped had taken a seat by now.
She didn't waste any time. She looked up at her and asked, "So are you really from another world!? Miss. Terious said so!" She gave a amused little giggle. It probably wasn't actually what she was called, but it had been the name that her and her Papa the kooky soul with the probably too intense love of Dragon's Blood. The look on her face was intense and full of desire like she had spotted a toy she MUST have.

Roxanne was startled by how fast the girl moved. Dawnie and Sybel stood in front of her, ready to defend her. Roxanne silently tapped their tails, intertwined as usual. She never made a big deal of it, and hoped nobody else would either. Roxanne was not expecting the enthusiasm from the girl, but smiled regardless.
Roxanne took the invitation and sat across from the stack of various supernatural themed memorabilia. Dawnie looked at Roxanne, an eyebrow raised in concern. And bemusement, considering this is the one day he wasn't wearing an actual hat. Roxanne didn't say a word about them and focused on the girl. Roxanne doesn't recall being told the girl's name. Just that she was "invited" to meet at this place. The longer she waited, the more awkward it would get to ask what her name was.
"I don't know about that. I don't even know your name. Or the fortune teller's, really."
Roxanne noticed the look in the girl's face and her brow furrowed. She can't be that rare of a case. There are Pokemon that can wipe minds all over. Those nightmare-like visions are just side effects. Of what, Roxanne didn't know. She tried not to think too hard on all of it, a sense of dread overtaking her every time she started to poke around her past.

"Oh!" her faced turned red and she put a hand over her mouth. "S-Sorry. I'm a little nervous." Her giggle was certainly a bit jittery and fluttery sounding, and she looked down at her croc covered feet all shy. "I wasn't actually expecting you to show up really..."
She took a moment and regained her composure, trying her best to put on a serious looking face. It was at the very least earnest.
"Harper! Harper Haile! I work for UPIN, the Unidentified Pokemon Investigation Network... " a pause, an ever so slight hesitation, and her little prideful grin would weaken. Her hand moved up and rubbed her shoulder. "Actually, I'm the lead investigator, currently!" She chuckled a bit sheepishly again, her eyes not meeting Roxanne's for just a moment.
Her enthusiasm quickly returned once again, however, seeming far from exhausted. "I'm just here on a tip is all, thanks so much for meeting with me."
"Is um.. everything okay?" She tilted her head, having noticed the way the way Roxanne had grimaced.

Roxanne nodded, listening to the young girl ramble. Hey eyebrow quirked up, an artificial ear quirked up as well. She smiled, grateful that the girl is just as nervous as she was. Her attempts at professionalism don't hide her enthusiasm, much to Roxanne's amusement. At the mention of her name and Harper's work, Roxanne's smile faded.
The name sounded familiar, but in a strange sense of the word. Like, the string of words are to be heeded with skepticism and a hefty grain of salt. The way the girl introduced her position in the business only lended to that worry. Her childish attitude made Roxanne think it could not have been a job she had for long.
Roxanne looked at her two partners for assurance. The two weren't even pretending to pay attention to the conversation. A pout on her face took over the smile that was struggling to stay in place. She sighed and brushed her hair aside. She leaned forward on her elbows and closed her eyes for a moment.
"I....don't know. Honestly, I just don't know. It's all weird. "

Well then! Harper was fine enough with the response honestly, because she had already gotten past the first hurdle. She grinned at her current companion, almost wanting to thank her for taking seriously at the moment. Some people didn't even get this far before she had to have "the talk" with them. This person was willing to consider that this girl worked for a place actually and not argue. Anything else really wasn't important, right?
"Well, I'm sorry you don't know, honestly I do! If I can say so myself, you look really okay to me! Healthy and like you've eaten today, I'm glad you're managing! And.."
Her face turned a bit red. "T-Those.." she pointed to the ears, which she had noticed twitch a bit. It had gotten her attention and she had stared a bit. "They are.. adorable. Really just, super terrific." She beamed again and sighed a bit.
"I hope you don't feel like I want to push you. I already appreciate you meeting me... miss?" She giggled a bit, thinking it funny that this girl had made a point of asking Harper for her name without offering her own still. She flipped back on her laptop from its sleep mode, tapping away at the computer. "Just meeting you has been, seriously, more than I could have asked for today. If you want to talk about what you remember at all or feel at all about your experiences, I'm here to listen. Or if you have any questions for me? Or maybe just wanna talk about your day!" She grinned. "I'm up for literally, anything. A perk of being my own boss."
She cleared her throat a bit, breaking up her excited rambling again. Harper truly wanted to say quite a bit more and started pondering how to go about getting her to come out of her shell.

Roxanne blinked in surprise at the girl's cheerful answer. Not the part about her ears being cute. She is used to that. It's one of the more....POLITE responses to her ears. Some people would make lewd comments. Then she'd have to have her Pokemon take care of them. Nasty business, that. She hasn't heard somebody sound so positive about her lack of knowledge before. Maybe this girl had more hidden under the surface?
"Uhm. Thank you. I made sure we three ate before heading here."
(Roxanne nervously chuckled before realizing that Harper just asked her a question. One that was not meant to be anything hard or complicated. And yet. It was, for her anyway. She bit her lip for a moment. It can't hurt to tell her about that. Nothing too major, explaining her name.)
"I go by Roxanne Doppelganger. It's...the best I have. I don't know my birth name, but it feels right?"
(She shrugged, then Roxanne looked away, eyes not focused on anything in particular. Thinking about her past made her head hurt. And a strange tightness like she is missing something Important overtook her chest if she thought too long about it. Something about it all felt too much, but she didn't want to disappoint the girl. Explaining that she doesn't remember much of anything until she awoke in a field would be just that. And that finding out was not on her priority list at this time.
Roxanne furrowed her brow. She looked at the girl in front of her. She seemed so earnest and Roxanne didn't want to dismiss her right off the Zubat. She weighed the offer given to her. It's low pressure, something that shouldn't be a problem for her. And this park was rather pretty and the weather was lovely at this time. She leaned on her elbows, lip bitten once more. Nervous habit.
"We could....talk about our Pokemon and maybe work from there?"

Listening to Roxxanne's words made Harper realize something new.
She really missed her Papa.
Well, that wasn't new. It was pretty much the only thing she had been thinking about since he left actually. No. The new bit was in realizing yet another aspect of her dual dynamic that was no longer there. Harper cataloged information, she helped ease tensions sometimes, sometimes she helped get peoples guard's down. Her father always did all the talking... and she had been doing a lot to try to emulate his way of handling people.
But she hadn't really thought about how sitting on the sideline with each case had sorta made it all blend together sometimes.
Sure, she was often right there with her Papa and caring about their clientele.. but her Papa had a great way of helping her understand. He always took people seriously and really cared about people...
Harper was way more nervous around them. They were great and all but she didn't understand them much. Even if she wanted Roxanne to feel comfortable and happy... up till now she really just wanted information. That was just a part of getting it.
But it really did feel more real right now... it just hit her that she was doing this all wrong.
But how to do it right? What could she do? She wasn't like Papa who always had the right thing to say...
She rubbed her shoulder and gripped the Poke Balls out of her bag, ignoring for a moment her awkwardness around them. Ignoring for a bit that she honestly didn't understand why so many people found themselves in these things that seemed to want to evade understanding themselves.
"T-This is Max.." she sent The Elgyem out. "He's.. well, he's scary alien who wants to take over and I'm keeping my eye on him!" Her squeaky voice put on an adorable show of intensity, not quite managing a true serious tone. She rubbed his large cranium playfully, gentle-like. "He's always doing really wierd stuff when I'm not looking but standing still when I am!"
"And this.." She giggled, gently sending out her little dark colored Gothita on the table itself, where it was sitting and continued to sit... not moving much. "Is Dana! Um.. she likes to sit... and... stare... and..." She softly poked the Pokemon but it didn't react much. "She gets hungry sometimes, I guess. She likes to eat a lot and she's nice really. If she wants to just relax a lot that's totally okay."
She smiled a bit weakly. She wished she had more to say about them honestly. She was still getting to know them on some level, but on another she felt almost like she never really would.
But maybe she could understand Roxanne?
"And um..." she looked down at her feet for a moment, her face turning red. "You know, I would be super okay if you wanted a hug. D-Do.. you wanna?" She held out her arms and looked up at her, her expression looking silly and very bashful.

Roxanne sighed, trying hard not to drag the mood down. She knew that she was a little "strange" but that didn't mean anything. She swore she saw a wistful look in the girl's eyes. Wishful thinking. Just a reflection of her own emotions. That's all. She was aware that she needed to make some friends. Human friends, not just Pokemon. And while Harper is, rather young looking, it's better than nothing. A start, if nothing else.
Roxanne's eyes widened at the sight of the two Pokemon shown to her. She kept a close eye on Dawnie, known for acting before thinking with strange new Pokemon constantly. Sybel woofed a hello to the two, always more friendly than the Cubone. Whether it was because of personality or because Vulpixes just are more friendly then Cubones, Roxanne has yet to figure it out. The two Pokemon looked attached to their owner, in a weird sense of the word. Like, even though they were still getting to know one another, as the short introduction implied, the two would be willing to fight anybody who wanted to hurt their owner.
A weak smile formed on Roxanne's face, her freckles hidden by a faint blush forming. It's odd, but this whole situation is odd and confusing. And she could use a little bit of comfort. So could that girl too in Roxanne's opinion. She nodded in agreement and pulled the girl close. It was a little difficult, with the table and the various things in the way, but she found a way to make it work. She heard Dawnie mutter something about "Soap opera nonsense" and Roxanne rolled her eyes.

Harper helped to make things a little less awkward logistically, jumping out from her table and giving a hug. She was a bit surprised about how good it felt, even if the whole thing made her feel a bit silly..
"T-Thanks.." she said, kind of trying hard to not get choked up..
After a few moments passed she pulled away and blushed a bit, turning away and shaking her hand a little in a bashful manner... but there was a pretty happy grin on her face. "Thank you, uh-huh..."
Gawsh... Papa...
Trying to think of anything to talk about, she scratched the side of her head and tried to adjust herself back in her seat. Her Pokemon in the meantime was reacting to the two new friends. Dana took a few moments to seem to realize what was going on... but once she did she was pleasant enough in her response, saying something in the manner of a wistful-sounding long-form hello, saying something to the manner of it being a good day for a chance meeting. Max's, on the other hand, hello was more awkward and robotic, GREETINGS like, but lifted up his hands and shined a few lights as if to add character to it... but it was very unlikely either spoke "lights" speek.
Harper noticed the exchange and giggled. "That's honestly really great for them! I'm happy they are making good friends!" she beamed at them and sighed, stretching a bit.
"So... umm.." she scratched the side of her head, not wanting to jump right back into questions after that hug but not really having much else to talk about. "You find a job? What kind of? Remember some stuff that helps you?" It was... a roundabout way of asking again, at least. It also made her feel better... because she was still worried about that and all.

(Harper felt nice to hug, like a small child looking for affection. Thinking about it made Roxanne's heart ache for a moment, so she discarded that thought. She looked at the texture on the bench, not wanting to think more on such topics. It always made her feel choked up. Whenever Roxanne saw a little girl with pig tails or muddy cheeks, her heart ached. Like she was missing something incredible important. But she couldn't, wouldn't, shouldn't think about it. She happened to over hear what the Pokemon were talking about. She couldn't help but giggle at how different the two Pokemon were. The Elgyem was like an old robot toy, programmed to entertain with a few sayings and movements. The Gothita was like a royal of a forgotten era, waxing poetic of long gone traditions. Which was kind of adorable, considering her(?) diminiutive size. Dawnie seemed to be more of a spectator, letting Sybel tell the duo all about them. Roxanne's blue eyes widen and she grabbed Sybel's muzzle, silencing her. Sybel was about to tell the two about how they met and that.....is something she knew she was not supposed to talk about, least of all to strangers. Silly girl, always telling more then she should. Roxanne uttered a short barking answer, telling the ice vulpix she is not allowed to talk about such things. The Vulpix looked scolded but continued chatting about something unrelated the moment she released her muzzle.) "Sorry about that. Sybel is a bit mouthy sometimes." (The fox snorted at the description, continuing on her tale. Roxanne returned to the questions at hand. At first, she gave a detailed answer. But upon asking about memories, she got evasive. Something that is clearly not in her nature, her ears twitched nervously all around.) "I work at a cafe. It's part time work, but it gets the bills paid. I...don't remember things. Nothing clear anyway..." Harper Haile

It took a moment for the Pokemon to truly process that they were indeed being communicated with. Although certainly, Harper had been the main one affected by it, their shared Pokemon also felt the effects of their missing father. In the end, Max and Dana were her father's Pokemon and had been with him for some time.
Max's language was still scattered, and confusing. The light show he made and the sounds he did were largely unintelligible, even to the confusing shared language of Pokemon. It managed a blunt expression of sorts once in a while. Lost. Home.
Dana on the hand was more attentive at least towards the Vulpix's attempts at conversing. Although she didn't even turn her head towards the Pokemon, she did respond. She shared the Vulpix's desire to reminisce about the past. Her own companion's visage was ingrained her dreams as of late. She felt truly felt there was something wrong. She saw him clouded in darkness and fog. Harper, like a niece to her, could sense it as well. She tried to shake a feeling that she would never see him again. But he felt so faint...
Alas, time moved ever on.
She listened to the rest of what her new friend, fellow traveler of the cosmos, had to say about her own meeting with her own companion as attentively as she ever did. Truly only expressing a fragment of her worries to the Vuplix. Harper for her part tried her best to listen her own new friend in turn.
Not as in tune with the dance of Pokemon as Roxanne she didn't quite understand the problem... "It's um.. fine. Pokemon are always making noises, I guess? Right? Well... Max only makes a lot of noises on Friday nights usually. And Dana doesn't. But people say!" She grinned a bit sheepishly and rubbed the back of her head. Her lack of experience with Pokemon made her struggle to relate to people sometimes.
She... would have to fix that. Maybe.
"Well if you ever do.. um.. oh gawsh, nevermind." She drooped a little but didn't lose her smile. "I guess I was hoping for too much! I'm sorry!" she grinned. She still didn't have the magic touch her Papa had.
"Is the... cafe nice? Do you guys have yummy stuff?" She could use something tasty after all her disappointment. A cafe brought to mind coffee, which she never really got the taste for... but she always tried to and always pretended to like more than she really did. It was just the time of year for peppermint wasn't it?!

Roxanne smiled at how happy Harper seemed. Happy might not be the right word, but she was enthusiastic. And it was kind of nice, having somebody so genuinely excited and well-meaning. Her adorable Pokemon was icing on the cake for her. Her Pokemon shifted back to safer topics, chatting about standard Pokemon things. Good berry places and where some good garbage cans around town were. Roxanne rolled her eyes, knowing full well that the Vulpix and Cubone were not giving up their garbage digging habits anytime soon.
It was a lighter topic than the one that the duo of Harper's Pokemon had on their minds. Roxanne stopped eavesdropping, assured the conversation is not going to get too heavy once more. Roxanne didn't want to be rude to the girl. And she did almost reveal her ability. Something she knew would not go well for most people. She only wanted to have a simple uncomplicated life. Something that she felt was becoming less and less possible. Strange things kept happening to her, with regular consistency.
Harper's attempt at being friendly suddenly sunk in. Telling the girl that her two Pokemon actually were very chatty when given a chance felt like an unneeded cruelty and Roxanne leaped onto the topic at hand. She smiled, eyes softened in an almost maternal fashion. Roxanne knew the cafe was open late for the holiday season. There are so many lost souls needing some comfort during this season. And the cafe workers didn't mind staying a bit late to be a comforting ear if needed. Roxanne stood up and gestured towards her duo to follow suit.
"If you want, we can go and check it out. My treat. I have an employee discount. "

"Yes!" She grinned. Although there wasn't much of a chance of very much more, Harper couldn't help but be interested in hanging around. Harper was very vocal as she stretched about and put her things back in order, collecting her laptop and slipping it into her bag and making all sorts of stretching sounds and the like as she did. It was organized chaos, but quickly got tied up and tucked away. Once it was all tucked away she giggled, practically dancing on her feet. "I'm gonna go to cafeeee~" She grinned a lot. "They are so grown up! And pretty! Papa never lets me have coffee~" Well, now she was going to have it! Her Papa had a thing against being dependant on anything, including caffeine, so avoided it as much as he could... but honestly, he just knew his daughter's palate hadn't grown like the rest of her. No matter how often she tried it, spicy and bitter foods reacted the same as if she was trying them for the first time. Which just made her feel even sillier, so eventually he sort of often would convince her to get something else. She had noticed, however... and didn't quite understand his reasoning for doing it. She held out a Poke Ball and returned Max, not really thinking much of it. Max had responded a bit enthusiastically to the talk of garbage cans and berries, exclaiming lots... but not adding much otherwise to the conversation. He at least seemed impressed by their know-how. He mentioned a general feeling about tonight though... would he be checking it out once it got dark? For the moment though, Harper didn't really like waiting for him to follow. Dana, however, was small enough to pick up and hold snuggly in her arms, but not too firmly... and right now the contact was nice. After they had started moving towards her destination, Harper would spend a good deal stealing glances in Roxxanne's direction and looking bursting full of desire to say something. Which she would eventually get around to. "Umm... Roxxy?" her voice sounded so shy and small, "W-Where did you get those... those ears?" Her face was so deep red at this point, she was soooo embarrassed to ask. "I..." she didn't want to admit she wanted them. Her interest in cute stuff and feeling cute was always getting her in trouble. She was so sure she was going to look so silly in them but... 'I want some..." Roxanne Doppelganger
