The world gave me a second chance

She seemed a bit confused at first by his remarks about her sense of timing, judging by her expression, but after a few seconds she seemed to get it. He hoped, anyway. It was always awkward when his jokes went over someone's head! Just, so so awkward! If she were an observant type, she might have noticed the light frown that spread across his face in the moments before she figured it out, in those few moments a look of clear anxiety being present. He wasn't the best at making conversation, at least when it wasn't with Izumi. Izumi he was used to just speaking at length with, and could respond as long as he liked without her judging him for speaking too long, since Izumi did similar. This was something he was beginning to realize the more he worked more directly with people as part of Interpol, and admittedly it kind of terrified him. He could jump into the heat of battle without fear, but apparently he had a fear of his own social anxiety. Go figure, huh? Perhaps he had accepted a little too quickly... But he'd have probably ended up having a few drinks at home anyway after the events they'd just gone through. Regardless, his thoughts right now were primarily on making sure to clock out and note to Kai that Dasha was safe. Dasha would bring up the bar she had in mind, and in an interesting display, flick it over to his watch to look at. It took him a moment to realize that it was now on his watch, and he looked from the watch, back to Dasha, then back to the watch and back to Dasha with a look of bewilderment on his face. "Holy shit, I didn't know that they could do that" He would admit, letting out a sheepish but hearty laugh in turn. "I really should have mom walk me through some more of the functions, I thought I knew everything about how this worked by now, but clearly she's snuck in a few things I didn't know about" He cracked, shaking his head and chuckling a bit to himself for thinking he'd figured out all the functions of this thing by now. It hadn't occurred to him that he'd never actually told Dasha that it was his own company that made the HoloWatch, nor that his mother was the manufacturer. It never seemed like it was an important enough thing to mention, though. Their conversation about the watch had been based from her interest in it when he was using it as a personal device, and he just imparted what knowledge he knew. Stuff any consumer could find out with research or messing with the watch, really. "That looks great though" He spoke as he would bring up a tab to make a note on the address, then slide the picture and information on the bar back to her watch. He didn't -have- to but he just kind of wanted to test it out and try it, and his eyes visibly lit up when it actually worked and it slid back to hers. "I'll meet you there, then. I'll try not to take too long, I promise" He spoke softly as he would turn the watch off and gingerly wave farewell for now, walking quickly in order to get back to the office. Not that he needed to, his height did help for quick strides either way. Longer legs meant more distance could be covered in a shorter amount of time and in less bounds, right? With his Typhlosion following behind him, he realized he'd completely forgotten to return Inferno to his Pokeball in the rush of everything before leaving. He'd left the Typhlosion out of it's ball to graze the area before he left, but it seemed he'd forgotten to put him back in. Eh, it was alright. The Typhlosion didn't seem uncomfortable with keeping up with his stride, and he did like letting his Pokemon see the sights when he was out here. He had so many that it would be impossible to let them all see the sights all the time. Before too long, he had clocked out, given a quick briefing and promise to write an incident report when he had time, had splashed some water on his face and done his best to look presentable in a short time after all the excitement, then he was on his way. Inferno had been returned to his Pokeball, though odds are he would treat the Typhlosion and Pikachu to ice cream or something on the way back home. It was a habit of his, he liked taking his active party out for ice cream if they'd had a particularly active day. It was his way of saying "You guys did great and I really appreciate the work you put in" and in some fashions, his way of exemplifying that to him, his roster was all part of the family. Josh would walk through Faraday until he found the address, and soon after found the bar that Dasha had described. Looking around, he wasn't sure if Dasha was waiting for him outside, if she was inside, or if she'd gone to take care of something while she was waiting for him. He sincerely hoped he hadn't taken too long, she'd been nice enough to offer, he didn't want her to think he might show her up. He'd feel horrible if he did make her think that.

Blue eyes blinked a couple of times slowly at the remarks. Wait what really? Wasn’t Josh supposedly a huge part of RaiCorp? Not that Dasha expected him to be an engineer or something given his placement also on the team but. “Yeah?” Yeah. Oh wait? Oh huh. So his mom did all that kinda stuff? Was he just loosely associated then? A small half-breath escaped from her. “I use it a lot when transferring files now a days,” she explained. “It’s made it much easier to do things.” It had been more than a good investment into getting one.
Her attention fell back to the location, however, and a small nod was given. As it was slid back, she smiled a little and lowered the screen again to the regular part of the watch. A small nod was given at his promise. “Sounds good.” Thereafter, she reclaimed her Pokemon again, assured they were all good, and briefly went home for a bit. A quick shower, hair dry, swap of clothes, and a teleport to the bar, she felt pretty comfortable coming walking in and sitting down at the end of the bar. The bartender was quick to come over, ask her what she wanted, and procure the otherwise simple drink: rum and coke.
She checked her phone only once before Josh presumably stepped in, and a hand raised to wave him over. Shifting a little, she set an elbow on the bar and half turned to the seat next to her half expecting him to sit down. Her more prim and proper clothes had been swapped out for a pair of red sweat pants and a simple t-shirt reading “I’m an Ace Trainer” on the front. Her hair was still done up pretty nicely, and she wore a lot less makeup but all together, she was well put together. “Glad you found the place,” she commented. The bartender would also notice Josh and ask what he wanted right after that.

"Mmm. My job's more based around set-up. I secured the HoloWatch's funding through an investor, and then I let my mother work her magic. Seems the investment was far heftier than I had imagined, she was able to go all out if there's features I didn't even know about" He would admit, and with that a grin started to spread across his face. "That must have made her incredibly happy too. She seems happiest when she's able to exercise herself creatively without much limitation or worry."His mood had clearly improved at the thought, and the care he held for his family and his concern for their happiness was evident in his expression. Even just the mere mention of even the idea of his mother being happy in some fashion had left him absolutely beaming. Though he remembered right after he was supposed to be keeping it short while informative, and he tried to keep from frowning as he was already pondering just if he had done it right, or if he had messed it up. This whole thing with Sam, and now with some others, had completely killed his social confidence in some ways, but he was trying. Either way, he'd have to note that data transferring thing... That looked really useful. He and his fiance both owned them, so it might help out when they were chilling at home. He'd have to tell Izumi all about this when he got home. He would ask his mother about any other tricks he missed, but... Thinking about it? She was mischievous. She was a little imp. She'd suggest he play with the HoloWatch and find out for himself. Not in a harsh matter, no, more a playful one. She liked to encourage use of it, it was how she was. She was clearly very proud of her handiwork, and had been from all the way back when she'd given he, Izumi and Yumi prototypes years ago back in Veria to mess with. The pride on her face had clear. Her work clearly meant a lot to her. He remembered the anxious look on her face when she first gave them to them for Christmas, and he remembered the fact she was beaming when they tried them and had been incredibly impressed. That was happiness he did not forget. He would never forget. Nah uh. Not ever.
So he would arrive, and quickly look around for Dasha. It took him a moment to recognize her when she waved him over, but he would walk over and take a seat. He would greet her with a warm smile when he did. "Place looks nice" He spoke. "Might have to visit it again sometime."It occurred to him that he had never seen Dasha like this before. It'd always been prim and proper, workplace attire and makeup. Here she seemed more... Normal, more relaxed. He liked it.

Dasha smiled and shifted forward again as Josh approached. "It's got a very calming atmosphere," she agreed. That was the major reason she liked it. Aesthetically, the dated twists of the wood and the smell of oil mixed with old ale reminded her very much of home. If she closed her eyes, she could almost imagine the old one she went to out in Sonata, perhaps without the cultural ambiance that was native to the city.
As if on some unknown cue, the entertainment of the hour had started up with some thin young man playing a violin on stage. It wasn't the best or most complex thing she'd ever heard, but for Dasha right then it was certainly something deep enough. She was exhausted, but these feelings were nice. Maybe… it would be alright to share just a bit.
"There's a place sort of like it back in my home region," she murmured taking a slow sip of her drink. "Granted I suppose there's only so much one can do with a bar." Hah, yeah. The base structure was a literal bar and ale after all. "But everyone is always singing and cheery." She'd heard Aleal was full of friendly folks, but this was Different and would always be. "It was a lot less expensive than here too." Hahhahahah. The bartender raised an eyebrow at her, but she smiled nonchalantly before he turned around again.

The world gave me a second chance

The wooded atmosphere of the place was nostalgic to him. Almost like he’d lived in a place with this sort of atmosphere thruoughout much of this life. It reminded him of the first ranch that he had lived on, back in the Rihon Region, far, far away from here. He didn’t remember too much about it, he had rarely left the ranch back then, he had been far too young before they had moved. But he’d spent most of his days taking care of the Pokemon, caring for them, feeding them, bailing them out if they wandered off and got into trouble... That rural sort of feel here reminded him of it, and it relaxed him. His shoulders would visibly lower as it hit him. “It does” He spoke softly, with a light smile in return. The nostalgic feel of this place warmed his heart, though the alcohol was a new touch on what was familiar to him... It was the rural, wooded feel and even some of the oil, over the smell of drinks that brought it about. Regardless, he felt his worries melting away as he sat down. Once the two had gotten settled with their drinks, he would watch as the entertainment would come on. A small part of him wanted to get up there and perform himself, bring laughs and entertainment to the crowd. Maybe that was why he’d taken up entertainment as a sort of hobby-career? He just couldn’t resist. He listened as Dasha would explain that she knew of a place such as this, back in her old region. The more she spoke, the more he realized how little he knew about Dasha. She was a hard worker... Seemingly kind in nature, great and caring with Pokemon... Even if she was fairly quiet. But he didn’t know where she was from, just her work habits and that she seemed to shop quite a bit judging by all the new clothes she came to work with each day, and when she was so eager over finding out about the HoloWatch... Hmmm... Though he couldn’t help but laugh heartily at her last comment and the look that it got from the bartender. They didn’t seem happy about that. “The rural atmosphere takes me back” He admitted quietly as he would take a sip of his drink, bringing a hand over to brush the head of the Pikachu, who let out a coo of “Chaaa~” in turn when he did so. Moving to scratch behind Lightning’s ears, he just began to say what was on his mind. “Things were a lot simpler back then. Just living out in the country, taking care of Pokemon, not a worry in the world. Just dreams. Lots and lots of dreams.”
He took a ginger drink and then looked toward Dasha. “What’s the name of your home region, Dasha? What’s it like? If I might be allowed to ask?”

In a vague, distant, and fleeting way, Dasha felt kinship for a moment. Perhaps it was just the residual feeling in the air or Josh's resonance with it. Either way, it was nice to know he understood those feelings if maybe not all of the details behind them. The thought of being out on a ranch in her Eran Mountains all alone aside from her Pokemon and the things happenstance brought before her could move her in ways that others simply couldn't.
As the question came about, she glanced sideways at Josh and offered a smile. "It's known as Era or the Eran Kingdom." Or any number of things since it had gone to war with itself. Dasha took a sip of her drink. "It's huge and expansive, and we have every kind of terrain imaginable." Another sip of drink. "In the north, we have the huge mountain ranges including Mt. Everesstone. In the south we have expansive savannah and desert areas. In the east, we have plentiful waters, a giantess lake with an island in the middle of it, and beaches for miles… In the east we have huge woods of all kinds. And there's so much much more in between all of that." Her voice was lulling a little, an air of distance and exhaustion undercutting her otherwise passionate tone. A blue eye flicked sideways to Josh, holding his gaze for a moment before flicking forward again. "I lived in the north and spent a lot of time in the northern cities, but once I got to traveling, I saw all over."

Josh had grown up on a ranch, and now he owned one himself, sort of. It was a nice coming to full circle kind of thing to him. Though he could admit feeling a bit nostalgic about the time at home, spending his days caring for Pokemon on the ranch. Of course... He would never want to replicate the feeling of not having a Pokemon of his own. It was a feeling that he couldn't imagine now. It had become his entire life almost. But his interest was perked when Dasha would bring up somewhere called Era. Or the "Eran Kingdom" as it was short for. The word "Kingdom" got his attention, as when he was not busy as a child, the fantasy of kingdoms and knights battling with sword and shield and Pokemon for their kingdom had been fascinating stories to him. It was just a knee-jerk reaction when she said the word kingdom - and particular when she said she was legitimately FROM somewhere that was called an actual Kingdom. But that aside, the fact was he had never heard of Era, not once. He'd never heard of the region, and a region unknown to him? That was something he wanted to hear about. So his interest was piqued and his focus was wholly on her and what she was saying. He listened in detail, invested in what she had to say, gingerly sipping his drink as she went on. The more she talked about it, the more he wanted to explore it for himself. His curiosity had gotten the better of him. In that moment he wasn't the officer that had jumped into the fray at the bank, no. Now he was back to being the wide-eyed Trainer who had wanted to explore the world alongside his Pokemon for most of his life. "I'll have to find time to head over there and explore it myself" He would admit with a warm smile. "It sounds fascinating. And like an adventure. I never did get to explore my home region, admittedly, so I don't... Know much about it. But getting to explore other regions has been an amazing experience that has more than made up for that. Couldn't hurt to explore one more. Era sounds like a place I'd love to visit."He thought about it a moment, before asking a question then. She'd been so passionate when talking about it, it had brought something to his mind. "You miss home, then?" He would ask, his curiosity bubbling up. "Is there a reason you came here to Veria? If you're comfortable with divulging, I mean."

Dasha’s blood pressure immediately dropped as Josh spoke. Color left her features, and that sparkle in her eye diminished. She couldn’t blame him for not knowing the situation of her kingdom (or she could but she didn’t particularly want to right then), yet it still stung to think that someone could just… say something about going there. Her stomach did a flip-flop as he went on asking about it, and her gaze fixated instead on her drink.
A slower, weaker breath came and went from her as she took a sip. “It wouldn’t be safe to go right now,” she started slower, a bit more guarded than before. “It’s been in a state of civil war for years now…” Five years since the conflict started? Or maybe a little more considering the lull of power. Dasha had lost track at some point, honestly. “My kingdom tore itself apart trying to restructure itself… There are several groups involved all trying to ‘save’ it… restore it… or otherwise.”
Her voice trailed off for a moment. She was biting her lip hard enough for it to change color. I should be there… I should be fighting. I should be protecting it… These thoughts had not stopped circling since she had come to Veria. They waxed and waned in intensity and vigor, but they were always there, in the back of her mind. Never mind that Interpol had been the group to move her out of the chaos once they had realized what a target her bloodline was. As much as she wanted to blame them for taking her away from the fighting, another part was still ever so vaguely grateful.
Ugh, who was she kidding? She’d run back in a heart beat if allowed to.
