I've noticed on site there are quite a few people who have some intriguing little tidbits that delve into a 'deeper layer' of pokémon beyond stats and evolutions and the like. Often taking the form of things like puns/allusions in pokémon naming or other little less than obvious easter eggs about pokémon or the world of the games/anime/etc, they tend to be little nuggets of knowledge that make you smile or give you a greater appreciation for the levels of detail put into the game.
I'd like to create a thread where people can put up the little pieces of pokémon information that they find interesting, though there is no obligation to contribute or comment on others info, though it is also not discouraged if you want to let a person know that you found their piece interesting!
To start us off with something that I found surprising recently, but I'm sure the more learned members of the site likely already know...
There has never been a Gym in the main series of games that Specialises in Dark-Type Pokemon. Whilst there have been trainers that favoured in Dark types, such as Karen or Sidney, the closest we've come to a Gym Leader with a dark flavour has been Island Kahuna Nanu of the Alola region...

Bit of bonus for the "no Dark gyms" thing! It's likely because in Japanese, "Dark-type" is literally "Evil-type" or "Sinister-type", which is why moves with "Shadow" in the name are Ghost rather than Dark, while Dark moves include so much like Beat Up, Sucker Punch, Bite, Fake Tears, Foul Play, Taunt, Thief, etc. Of course some have more thematic names (like Night Slash and Dark Pulse) but those are sometimes very different in Japan (Night Slash is "Crossroad Killing"!).
So given Gym Leaders tend to be kind of community leaders and role models for trainers, it makes sense that a Dark specialist isn't ideal. Meanwhile, since the Elite Four are meant to be symbols of supreme power, they can get away with being more questionable in how they achieve that power.
Some very very obscure trivia for some of my favorite games.
In ORAS, there's bad blood between Gym Leader Wattson and Captain Stern. In Sea Mauville, one can find a letter written by Stern accusing Wattson of being a traitor for intervening and getting New Mauville shut down, although the letter has different letters missing depending on version and takes both put together to read close to fully.
There's also implication that at least Team Aqua used to work for Sea Mauville, with a torn up blue suit hanging near a picture of a bunch of tanned workers in blue jumpsuits, both of which seem like pretty specific details meant to visually call Aqua to mind, especially with them being so close.
Given the whole deal with Sea Mauville and New Mauville was a massive falling out over conservation vs progress and how that affected the environment, it makes it very plausible that this was the old team Archie and Maxie used to be on together (the fact that they once shared one being another very off-hand thing mentioned in-game).
(As a muuuuch more extrapolatory headcanon thing, I like to think Wattson lowkey sympathizes with Aqua and Stern with Magma as a result, but that's definitely way more 'it's possible' than 'it's likely' lol.)

Short but yes:
Double Team's Japanese name is, quite literally, Kage Bunshin.
Does this explain why anything that uses Double Team in the original Japanese anime series sounds like they came straight out of the Naruto universe? Heck even the animation looks quite similar to the Kage Bunshin no Jutsu!

Heck even the animation looks quite similar to the Kage Bunshin no Jutsu! For the Japanese-impaired, Kage Bushin translates as Shadow Divide in Pokémon. In Naruto, it was localized as the Shadow Clone Technique/Jutsu.
