It was a quiet day in the old, mildly un-loved city of Carrefor, the cheery vibe in the air that was ever present seeming almost unsettlingly absent today as Niso walked through the city, a thick fog from a recent rainy season doing him a tonne of favors as he walked through the town with little more than a stetson hiding the features of his face, the rim dipped forward in aid of this, and all of his pokemon following invisibly behind him, cloaked in the illusions of his Zoroark. He'd found out about a fun little theme bar here the other week, and wanting to reeeeeeally let loose, he decided he'd have some fun!~ Pushing open the swinging doors of the old west styled bar, the dark child flicked his eyes left and right from under the rim of his hat. So a lot of the patrons liked to fit the theme huh? Fuuuun. That would make this all the more delightful when the fake cowboys started to wet themselves in fear. He found himself at the bar, head turned low as he slid into a stool, the bartender toying with his suspenders as he walked over. "What can I do ya for lad...look a bit young to be drinkin' outside of Liggs."
『Oh don't worry I won't be drinking, I'm just here for the entertainment~』The bartender narrowed his eyes, cleaning a glass idly to keep up the aesthetic of the bar despite the glass being completely clean. "Kiddo if you're here for Karaoke that's fridays. If you want I've got some soft drinks I can getcha?" Niso tipped his head to the side with a sigh of dissapointment, drumming his fingers along his cheek.
『No entertainment huh...?』His dark aura enveloped him rapidly, the thick coating taking in even his hat as his sharp eyes pushed through the darkness with only a piercing white, his grin growing to an impossible width as he lifted his head.
『Guess I'll be making my own then!~』The bartender recoiled, mildly fearful but mainly stunned and shocked, but the fear grew as Niso climbed over the bar, grasping his suspenders and slamming his head down into a half empty glass that had been left on the bar, the glass shattering as it dealt a swift knockout blow to the front of the older gentleman's skull, the entire bar now eyeing this little fight. Some had risen from their seats and grasped their pokeballs, only for a series of pokemon to appear as if from nowhere, slamming them and pinning them into their tables, Bruce the zoroark visibly drooling as he enjoyed the first bit of action he'd had in a long, LONG time. Watching the bartender harmlessly fall behind the bar, Niso lifted himself up upon it, his aura fading slowly as he pulled his hat from his head, over his face, and ultimately threw his arm out to the side as he addressed the bar in a theatrical manner, those that recognized him giving gasps of fright and looks of confusion as he opened his arm out to address the crowd.
『Good evening hostages!~ I havn't taken any of you in a fair while so I say we have some fun today!~ What say you?~』Of course they had no say in the matter. Another patron made an attempt to reach for a pokeball subtly under the table, but in an instant he found his wrist gripped, and bent back to an unnatural degree by a black and red lucario, the aura pokemon sensing his motions, and with an extreme speed, punishing him for it. 『Now don't worry ladies and gents!~ Behave and you'll all be fine!~』He'd lift the unconscious bartender by the back of his shirt almost like a puppet, pulling his face to his own ear whenever he needed a 'reply' 『Hey buddy I'm gonna use your phone. You mind? No? Oh fantastic. Whats that you say...anyone else tries to grab a pokemon and I'll have that lovely Zoroark cut out their tongues. Oh bartender. You do tell it how it is don't you?~』Dropping the bartender without much care, Niso slid into a small spinning stool kept behind the bar and pulled up the reciever of a small turn-dial phone, putting in 911 and waiting for an answer with the cheeriest of tones. 『Hello? Interpol wannabes?~ You're gonna wanna get your big brothers on the line. There's something here i think they'd looooooooooove to get in on. Just tell them four things. Niso Konto. Hostages. Where you got this call. And, if they don't play fair, I...well I won't kill anyone, but it'll be hard for them to ever get a good nights sleep again?~ Okay? Bye bye~』 Niso proceeded to hang up the phone and kick back, his feet resting on the bar and his hands behind his head, looking at all the lovely, terrified patrons.
『Don't ya just love mondays?~』

Off in the corner of the room, Haiiro had been sitting with a group of men playing poker (Or rather Texas Hold’em if anyone was sure what Texas was). The nature of the game and the way it fell out with only a bit of conversation here and there, he was rather comfortable honestly. Words had failed him for weeks on end, and the less he had to portray, the better. Briefly, blue eyes flickered up to the young man as he entered, but with Niso’s hat the way it was, Haiiro wouldn’t recognize him immediately. Blue eyes lowered again, and Haiiro set a hand on the table. All three men groaned and threw down their chips. Haiiro only nodded briefly.
A shout rang out, and Haiiro and the other men jerked sideways to see what was going on. The bartender’s crash onto the bar had several of them standing up. The three other men at the table would stand up, grabbing their Pokeballs and ready for a brawl. Haiiro remained seated, frowning hard. What came next, however, had people squealing and yelping. The fighting that transpired had Haiiro’s eyes growing, and his brain circled around over and over taking in what was going on. Hostages?? Niso Konto. This kid was Niso Konto from TV. The question that came after had Haiiro setting down the poker cards he’d still somehow managed to be holding. Mondays… Yeah.
Haiiro’s mind stimmed with thoughts, questions, concerns. What Pokemon did he have? Did he even have a viable means to defeat this kid? No, probably not with how vicious he supposedly was and the nature of his Pokemon from what he’d seen. Elayne’s safe, at least… At least, at least. Elayne and Felis and everyone else were safe at least. His hand moved, not for a Pokeball but for the holowatch on his wrist.

Pulling a rolled up manga out the inside of his jacket, the dark child leaned back in his stool behind the bar, humming along to a tune he had stuck in his head. Sera had showed him a song she thought might work well with her next contest and somehow he manged to get it trapped in his head, which was surprising because it wasn't electro-swing. He wasn't even sure if he even understood the lyrics, it just had a catchy tune to it...then again that was most electro-swing in a nutshell which explained why he liked it. Bruce and Niso's other pokemon however were prowling the bar, Bruce especially trying to intimidate anyone who didn't look like they'd swing for him if he got too close, climbing over their tables and sniffing at their hair, drooling onto the table infront of an especially scared young woman, before chuckling like a hyena as he moved on. About a minute managed to pass before Niso was checking his own watch. He didn't expect an instantaneous response time but he thought he earned at least a call back from a hostage negotiator...
『Guess Carrefor really is unpopular...Interpol dosn't even wanna come here』He gave a light shrug and gave himself enough of a kick out of the chair he managed to vault from the arms of the stool to the top of the bar, walking along it as he tried to look for something fun to do, smirking as he spotted the poker table in the back and jumping across the tables to get there, Karlak and Bruce dragging the others who'd been playing there off to one side and leaving the mute boy. Not that Niso knew that as he picked up one of the tossed hands and knocked the small stack against the table to even it out.
『Well you just volunteered to help me kill time!~ Howd'ya play?~ Is it go fish? I always hear people playing that but i never learned the rules...』

From his Holowatch, Haiiro was texting— kinda sorta. He’d opened a messenger and started writing out what was going on under the table. The men being dragged by Karlak and Bruce kept shooting him looks, but Haiiro did nothing, just stared quietly. Elayne wasn’t here. Felis wasn’t here. Ryan and Kitty and Rosa weren’t here. He had no one to defend but himself, and as selfish as that was, he would not endanger himself for strangers. He’d done enough of that in life already.
Suddenly, however, footsteps forward would have his eyes raising. Wait what?! Niso was coming his way?? Why— what had he done to draw attention to himself? Haiiro’s hands fidgeted under the table, releasing the HoloWatch’s dials and interface so that it’d fall back to normal again. As Niso picked up the hand and smacked the stacks down, Haiiro involuntarily flinched. Just volunteered to ki— Kill time. Kill time until what? Until the police showed up or until he got bored with the situation? Until he killed everyone in there? Haiiro took in a slow shaky breath.
He had… no voice right then, and even if he did it would have been shaking which would have prompted him not to speak anyway. Could he do anything but stare back at Niso silently? Distract him… The thought was so obvious but so unuseful. His entire plan had been to fall by the wayside until it was duked out… A small shake of head was given, his lips parted slightly only to seal up again. Nope, nothing, apparently.

...Nothing? Guy had a right to be stunned by fear but usually there was at least a nervous squeak. Ah well~ He was shaking his head but it's not like Niso actually gave him a choice. He didn't seem in a fit state to play go fish though, so Niso decided to teach him a game instead, sweeping the cards on the table up into one deck, and rather expertly shuffling them. Surprisingly well actually.
『My pa' used to play a game called 'bloody sevens' with me, but that might be a bit complicated...ever played sevens?~ Much simpler but gets boring quickly. Bloody sevens was some weird mashup of Sevens and Othello if you could imagine it. Apparently he and his friends made it up in coledge. Was weirdly fun to play, passed a lot of time if you were clever too』Fanning the deck in one hand he'd idly perform some shuffling tricks as he let his gaze wonder in thought, shuffling the deck from one hand to the other and humming the tune that was still stuck in the back of his head, crossing one leg over the other and tapping his foot idly to the tune.
『Your parents ever do that? Make up games you'd never heard of?』He began dishing out the cards without telling Haiiro the game he'd decided on yet, Karlak slowly moving in behind the human sitting opposite his trainer, just staring down at him, the dragon having to hunch forward to even fit in the room.

Dark blue eyes watched the cards shuffle in Niso’s hands. Distantly, Haiiro was impressed by the maneuvers. As Niso spoke, however, Haiiro’s gaze raised to his eyes. He had, in fact, played Sevens, but that had been years ago now. He had not played Othello nor did he know that it was reminiscent of a game that he did, in fact, play.
Instead, Haiiro was left imagining a strange game with a strange old man in it instead. Some part of him thought to say these things, but of course his jugular had sealed up, and welp here they were. As Niso bounced around, Haiiro shifted a little uncomfortably. He would have looked out on the bar had he not be warry of taking his eyes off Niso— but then now of course a Dragonite was sitting behind him and that was impossible to account for. He wished Shadow was out. Or Steel.
The question did have Haiiro stopping, however. Niso was… asking about his parents, and the strange straightforward intimacy of it caught him off guard. Keep him distracted… his thoughts ordered again. Haiiro shifted a little, his hand going up to a pocket. He’d freeze if he felt the Pokemon or Niso move erratically, but should they let him, he’d pull a small notebook out of his pocket and set it down on the table. Pulling the pen from the sleeve, he’d write down a couple words and turn it around for Niso to read.

Niso flicked his eyes over to Haiiro, about halfway through the whole deck and noticing the motions of the boys arm. Quick enough, Karlak spotted it too, laying a heavy hand down on his shoulder, thick claws lightly pinching into the boys flesh, growling through his teeth to the point a rather heavy droplet of saliva hit the floor beside Haiiro's chair. 『Let him get it.』 Niso gave a casual shrug and a smirk. 『If it's a pokeball you can slam his head into the table』Checking what remained of the deck as Haiiro wrote his little note, Niso read it briefly before his eyes focused on Haiiro, wondering why he'd written it out rather than say anything...was he too scared to speak? Possibly. Nevertheless he seemed game for conversation even if he wasn't capable of it. Niso placed 4 sevens out on the table, red black red black in a vertical line. If Haiiro looked at his cards he'd notice he had all the red cards and Niso had all the black. 『Any interesting games? Surprised you didn't say your dad or something.』 Niso clicked his tongue as he fanned his half-deck over the table infront of him. it wasn't like he had to hide them with the hands they were dealt being so huge and obvious. 『Actually you live here? Veria I mean!~ Unova myself, parents have no clue what I've been up to here!~』 Namely because they were dead but- Haiiro would have some time to react before Niso explained the rules of bloody seven, though it wasn't anything to bore either rper with since they wouldn't be expected to keep up with the game, niso taking his turn to place a red 8 down beside a black 7, drumming his fingers as something hit his mind, looking to his ditto not far away as it slowly oozed into someone's hair, much to their discomfort.
『Hey go fetch that karaoke machine the barman was talking about!~ I wanna have some music while i wait for the fun to show up!~』The ditto sprung off of the poor man's head, and quickly took Niso's form, saluting before springing off into the back of the bar.

Haiiro only internally flinched at the Dragonite’s response. Niso’s words, however, had him grimacing a little. He was glad Shadow’s Pokeball was in a different pocket. Slowly his gaze fell back to the cards, and as he picked them up, he scanned over them. Niso’s words, however, had him shaking his head. No dad. The man hadn’t been in his life since he was very small, and even then nothing good came of it— aside from him, his older brother, and younger brother, probably. Shifting his hand, he picked up the pen again. The question right after, however, had him fidgeting. Flicking up a pen he wrote out a couple words.
-- From the Orre -- he wrote out briefly flipping the pad to Niso and then flipping it back again. If nothing else, he hadn’t had ties to the Orre in almost seven years, so hopefully… it wasn’t like he could be tracked. Niso has parents though… from Unova of all places. He wondered if the police knew this or …. What exactly they knew even.
As Niso explained the rules, Haiiro did his best to keep focus and follow it. It wasn’t hard, but he was also on edge as fuck so…. Thoughts were difficult at best. The Ditto had Haiiro visibly alarmed for a second as he watched it assume Niso’s form and head off to the karaoke machine. He’d… quite possibly forgotten how fucked up Ditto could be, apparently. Well… well.
One hand on his cards, the other on the pen, Haiiro hesitated before writing, somewhat backtracking but still just… trying to keep Niso distracted until someone showed up and settled all this. ugh.
-- I play Go, Shogi, and a couple of other things. And card games of this nature-- Obviously, but still. There was a pause before he continued writing. -- Is this just a game to you?—He had to wonder but would never have bene able to ask aloud.

『Orre huh?~ Bet you're glad not to live in that shithole anymore eh? Though I guess I havn't made Veria a very welcoming option in comparison hm?~』
Niso didn't actually have much experience with the region himself but he knew enough of the stereotypes that were associated with it, humming along as he placed a card down, trapping a black 8 between a red 7 and 9, thus turning it over to claim it as a red. In the back he could hear his ditto struggling to push out the Karaoke machine he'd found, only having the relative strength of Niso himself, and thus finding it near impossible to push along the hefty piece of musical machinery, not that any of Niso's other pokemon bothered to help. Bruce himself just snickered and giggled at the display till the ditto rolled it to a spot he could plug it in, getting 2 seconds snippets of songs as he cycled through what it could play. Niso's eyes stayed on the game for the most part, just watching Haiiro write idly between plays, ignorant of the situation they were both in, 'trusting' his pokemon to keep an eye on everyone else, hearing an idle head slamming into a desk as Bruce slammed someone down just for a laugh. They hadn't even made any attempts to move or grab for a pokeball, he just wanted to see their faces. Niso's eyes just stuck to the man infront of him, a quiet smile always on his lips, perking up a bit at the question.
『Of course it's a game! I told you it's called bloody sevens!~』He snickered for a moment but shook his head, his smile growing a little more. 『But yes. This is just a game. It's monday!~』He idly placed another card as he spoke 『I walked in here, wanted to have some fun, and I created some fun. That's not to say anyone here is some pawn, not at all!~ They're all their own players. Everyone can stand, fight back, do whatever they like, they just have to be aware that I'm my own player too!~』
『It's just a fun little game!~ I mean what's the worst that could happen to you people? A bloody nose, a severed tongue, a traumatic memory.』 『Death?』His aura faded away from it's thicker form, leaning onto the table with a brighter, less devious smile.
『Your turn!~』

Haiiro frowned a bit softly. The Orre was certainly something but … he didn’t dislike it at all. Certain parts of it were still his favorite place to be even if he hadn’t been there in seven years. Actually… he kind of wanted to go sometime. Maybe whenever his brother decided he was getting married, they’d choose to do it over there in Agate. This thought got cut off at the sound of someone being slammed down. No time for day dreaming when faced with a murder and hostage situation. Right.
…Even if said murderer might or might not have been taking it all that seriously? Uhm… Haiiro’s eyes narrowed softly at Niso’s words. Everyone’s a player capable of standing up and fighting back… Haiiro frowned a bit. What’s the worst that could happen to people? He frowned a little more. Niso’s aura might have scared someone with less gal that Haiiro, but he’d seen some worse shit than a kid who could make darkness flash up around his face. The thought of death even was just…. A small roll of eyes was given and he’d place down another card rather strategically even if his author couldn’t think of one.
Shifting the pen again, he scratched down more words.
-- That’s a very nihilistic way to put it --
There was a pause before he wrote down more.
-- What’s the point of playing when someone else has such a huge advantage anyways?--
His gaze flicked to Niso’s Pokemon before back to him again before down at his cards once again.

Oh. That was a good move. Haiiro managed to claim 4 of his cards in one move and he hadn't even realized. Oh well, he just had to play a little less hastily next time. He was running out of some numbered cards though, but since they both had the same viability to play to the very end that just meant he had to be careful about his placements, eliminating some of his higher number cards to set up some future traps, eyes flicking to the notebook whenever it was turned to him.
『My my. Aren't you a brave one asking me that?~ Besides, I'm anything but Nihilistic. Life is the only thing that matters. Why else would I gather so much of it?~』The random 2 second snippets of songs would stop as the Ditto found one he knew his trainer liked. It wasn't even a song one could really do well singing, but it was something that had Niso idly tapping his foot as he collected his remaining cards into his hand, idly shuffling them to keep himself busy.
『You are right however. The deck is clearly stacked in someone's favor. I have Pokemon out and no one else does...but I'm here in a bar full of people, with, at the very least, the police informed I'm here and likely on their way. You people also have a trump card I can't tell you about. You have numbers on your side...why, if everyone were to try at once to fight back, I wouldn't stand a chance now would I?~』He made no efforts to lower his voice, eyes remaining on his own hands and briefly flicking to the game as he continued to toy with his cards, humming along to the music now playing behind him, his eyes seeming oddly more vacant than usual.
『Ultimately the deck is always stacked against the individual, and as a player of life's game you can either go on with it and surrender to Arceus' whim, play the game like everyone else. Day in day out, same old same old. Eat work sleep repeat. My deck was stacked that I would be a normal kid with grades far above average without being exemplary. I would have Piano lessons, maybe master the instrument. I would grow up, graduate, and live a life of eat, work, sleep, repeat. I might have met a girl. Maybe like her they'd have helped me get over my fears too. Maybe I'd have grown old, become comfortable with my last fear, and passed away, a snippet of time filled with mundane trivialities someone would describe as a life...But no. I came here, I battled practically an entire region depending on how you look at it, and I became immortal. I beat the player we call Arceus and now I'm inviting others to beat me. To see if they can. To see if it's fun. To see if they can do what I did and say fuck it to the rules they feel are holding them back.』Niso was growing more and more distant in his eyes despite the open nature of his words, almost as though he was talking more to himself...really he was. The question had been a catalyst perhaps, but the storm usually inside his head was pushing to the outside. His foot mindlessly tapping to a beat he couldn't even fully register as the world outside his own words became a swirling blur, collecting the quarter-deck he still had remaining and slamming his fists down on the table as the storm pushed back inside his head, looking this odd little mute fellow in the eye.
『Life is a game and I'm the only one who cares enough to play and to win so excuse me for saying I have EARNED my advantage here! I have earned the right not to be bored by the mundane lives you all think are so fulfilling!』Niso breathed slowly as he stared down at the faintly shaken cards on the table. Bruce was almost licking his lips, unsure why it had happened but just seeing that old part of his trainer starting to slip out of the cracks. Niso couldn't lie...it felt good to snap again...!~
『Rule change!~ Police don't want to play hm?~ We'll have to compensate!!!~』Head lifting up with as bright a smile as ever, Niso casually flipped the table to the side and stepped forward to Haiiro, grasping his hair and dragging him out of his chair, attempting to make his way back to the bar and specifically the phone behind it should the man not stop him.

Haiiro deadpanned as Niso tripped into a spiraling rant that nobody asked for. He… probably should have been more scared, more uncertain, more anything but Arceus fucking damn it if he hadn’t heard this “I’m a villain” spiel from entirely too many people in the past. He took in some details but…. meh??? This kid… just sounded as crazy as the last. Haiiro had to wonder who poured soda in his Cheerios or whatever. Probably Arceus, apparently. Maybe just Life In General. Yeah, apparently with that whole immortal shit. Arceus, he was so ranty. Haiiro glanced down at his watch and checked the time. Hmmmm…
Fists slamming down on the table had Haiiro looking up again. Earned the right not to be bored by the mundane? Haiiro blinked slowly. His features stayed flat, unflinching. The table flipped sideways, but as Niso reached for his hair, he’d find a hand on his wrist gripping it firmly but not crushing it. The other hand raised up, reaching forward, and would flick Niso hard in the forehead if he or his Pokemon didn’t do something quick. “Enough,” his voice came out low, and already he felt exhausted form it.

『...』
Really....Really!? Enough!? He had the GALL to tell him enough!? To flick him like that!? His Pokemon turned silent as he himself was briefly staggered, his eyes sharp but staring at nothing as he felt his arms somehow turn limp and tighten in the same instance. Enough. Enough. You didn't get to say when it was enough!
『Hah...hahahaha....hahahahahahah!~』No thought. He stepped forward, hands grasping around the boys throat and pinning him back against Karlak, the dragon pinning his arms as Niso pushed his thumbs against the center of his throat, eyes still staring at nothing, not even the general direction of his face as he added more and more pressure. Oh he missed this...!~
『...Enough...』Back in reality, Niso took a slow breath through his nose, held it, and exhaled heavily, the tension in his muscles from the flick relieved somewhat. He could hear Bruce rushing up behind him but as the Zoroark passed him to try and lunge for Haiiro, the dark child raised a foot and stamped down on the Pokemon's head. Bruce yelped out and took it as enough of a sign to stop. He may have had more a mind of his own but the rest of Niso's pokemon weren't exactly afraid to tear him apart if Niso gave the order. With the lifting of Niso's foot, Bruce would scamper over to climb on the bar, growling deeply as he wondered what was going on. Niso himself snatched his arm back with as much strength as he could muster, staring at the floor for a second before he turned around, popping his neck once to either side to get a few cracks out of it as he let his hands settle into his pockets.
『Everyone go home』Niso's pokemon looked to eachother confused as did most of the hostages. Some started to break for it once their nerves let them, and others followed suit. Soon enough Niso's few pokemon were roaring and hissing at those who stayed behind to make sure they got a move on. Niso himself pushed himself back over the bar, rolling over it and falling on the other side behind it with a light thud. He barely even felt it. With a light push he forced himself to sit with his back against a bar under a small inner-shelf of beers, easing his phone out of his pocket, flicking through what few apps he had as he found a specific recorder app, the screen turning a mostly pink and red hue as the image that came with his preferred sound file filled the screen. He turned the volume down to the point only he could clearly hear what it was saying, and held it against his ear. "I loOOOOoooove yooou~~"Why did she have to be so damn cute when she did that... "I loOOOOoooove yooou~~"Niso heard his pokemon were surrounding his spot behind the bar...the police were likely still coming afterall so he needed his Beheeyem close if he wanted to teleport away...Haiiro was the one who jolted him like that so his pokemon didn't make any special effort to scare him out if he wanted to stay. "I loOOOOoooove yooou~~"She shouldn't. "I loOOOOoooove yooou~~"He wanted to do that. Bad Niso. Bad. One rule. One rule you follow. "I loOOOOoooove yooou~~"

As Niso deflated, Haiiro deflated. Everyone go home. Yeah, alright. His grip released when Niso pulled away, but he remained sitting for a couple extra seconds even as the other patrons were forced out by Pokemon. A hand shifted to his pocket finally, and a Pokeball burst forth.
The Umbreon that appeared imminently pressed up against him and glared at the other Pokemon present. Her Pokeball was the clear type, and she had just enough sense as to guess what had been going on. Haiiro’s hand, however, felt through her fur and had her looking back at him. O-oh… Oh… The Umbreon sighed, and Haiiro finally stood up and started out of the bar of his own accord. The Umbreon followed suit without a word. The police could deal with this. It wasn’t his job or his—
Haiiro stopped walking right in the arch way. Looking over his shoulder, he frowned at the bar that Niso had disappeared behind. That kid could be some serious trouble if left to himself. But… Something registered as ‘strange’ and he wasn’t exactly sure of what. Shaking his head, Haiiro walked out. He’d think on it later.
