Luke's aura was still dark, nothing he'd said had helped. Well, fuck. Jazz felt so useless and ugh, why weren't there any do overs in life. It seemed he only opened mouth to change feet when it came to Luke anymore. Was it always like this? If it was, why was he just now seeing it. Love is blind, that's why. But he'd grown since the last time he'd talked to Luke. If he realized it, it was the first step to healing, wasn't it? Well, at least Luke wasn't walking away for now, that was something.
The next words that hit the air had Jazz flinching a bit. Well, what else could he say? "Sorry, man... Old habits die hard," Jazz muttered a bit before falling silent. Luke continued on again, saying he didn't know what he was expecting from this. Heh, Jazz could agree with that. He'd been scared and might have played with the kid longer just to avoid it. "Yeah... same. I jis, I wanna be there for you. 'n 'm sorry." How many times had he said that today? It wasn't doing any good, not when Luke was like this. But... Jazz wanted to do something to help. He hated feeling this useless when Luke was hurting.

Luke sighed dryly. Some cynical part of him wanted to insist well you’re not helping back, but he didn’t even have the energy for that anymore. He just… vaguely needed some time, he guessed. Maybe more time. All the time. There was plenty of it, he guessed. He gulped, weakly, tiredly. “You wanna go up the street and get ice cream?” he finally offered a bit weakly. There was… no point in that either, but maybe it would give them both— him and Nilly— time to settle again, settle, recompose, relax, and just accept what came. He had other things he could be doing; that was still very true.

Watching Luke's aura there wasn't any drastic change but it still didn't look great. Sigh. Jazz really wasn't helping anything at all was he. Dammit. He was trying but he didn't seem to be helping at all. It was frustrating but what else could he do? Every well meaning thing Jazz had said thus far had blown up in his face. The offer for ice cream earned a small smile from Jazz. At least Luke wasn't just leaving? That was something, right? Maybe a break from all of this would be good anyway. "Sure, wonder if it tastes any different than the ones from Veria~," Jazz mused, grinning a bit cheekily, "Could be a good science experiment~" Yeah, that was a tease and his tone was obvious but well, berries could be used to make different flavors. Why not Alola vs. Veria ice cream. Hehehe, ok maybe it was just a silly thought.
Post by Luke Indigo on Jan 13, 2018 5:18:38 GMT -8
Wondered if Alolan ice cream tasted different from Verian? And probably different from Eran, though he couldn’t remember that as clearly now. “It’s the same Miltank but it might be creamed differently….” he finally decided with a small nod. “Not to mention the berries on the islands have their own unique properties.” He had plenty of those trees back home, though, being tended to by lab assistant after lab assistant while he was away.
Luke reached up and ran his fingers through messy red locks. A small note escaped from him before a smaller nod as he turned to look up towards the path that headed into town. It wasn’t too far a walk but could take some time. “Let’s go…” It was intended to have some sort of depth or joy in his tone, but instead it just sort of fell flat. Starting up the way, Luke’s hand reached for the wooden railing and felt over it slowly as he did so. “I should probably go talk to the berry master outside of Hau’ouli about getting some more specimens to take home too…” he muttered more to himself than to Jazz.
Nilly sighed deep inside. It worried but couldn’t do much now.

Jazz smirked quite a bit when it seemed that Luke took his little joke literally. Well, he hadn't exactly been looking for a scientific answer but that was Luke for ya. Still, this at least felt more normal and it was nice to just have a breather from the prior conversation. All the same, Luke didn't sound very enthusiastic about going to the ice cream parlor. If anything it sounded like a chore? Nah, he was just imagining things, that was all. Luke seemed tired still so that had to be it, right?
Falling into step beside him, Jazz didn't really say much until he heard Luke mention the berry master. "Well, why don't we stop there instead? I haven't been to Hau.... whatever before, or really many places in Alola. Maybe you could show me around? Show me what you like about it here? I mean, I can see why you were reluctant to leave, now." It was so nice here. Man, coming back here with Lucien would be cool sometime too. Maybe he could suggest something along those lines next time. Right now, seeing Alola sounded a lot better than boring old ice cream.

Luke’s brow quirked at Jazz’s suggestion before he gave a small head shake in return. “It’d require a ferry ride over to Melemele, and I don’t want to go all the way out there right now,” he answered allowing his gaze to flicker forward again. It was already late in the day, and while the ferry ride wasn’t long, going there and back again wasted a lot of time. He could probably go over the following morning and spend some time on Melemele rather than coming and going, yeah. He wouldn’t suggest that to Jazz immediately, however. Some part of him wanted to do that on his own.
“We could go through Heahea and down to Konikoni, though,” Luke went on, allowing his gaze to flicker up to the city they were vaguely walking towards right then. Heahea had some nice stores and the like, but it was mostly a research town (and part of the reason Miss Oriana and Mr. Abe had decided to live here. His father and mother actually lived a bit farther fof in Paniola where his mother could work with her plants and his father could commute into town. Konikoni, by default, however, was more touristy. It was built up as a place that one could see and get a feel for the raw culture of the island all in one place. The first time he had been had almost been overwhelming.
A golden eye flicked to Jazz. “There’s a lot of souvenirs and trinkets down in Konikoni as well as some interesting fossil stores,” he smiled a little at that remembering the various fossil Pokemon he’d seen there. He had Jazz had been fossil hunting in Veria too so…. Yeah….

At Luke's response, Jazz shrugged slightly and nodded. Yeah, it was pretty late anyway. Best to wait until they had time and wouldn't be getting back until after the sunset. He wouldn't press for more and had more or less resigned himself to ice cream when Luke went on. The names of the cities received a blank stare from Jazz for a moment. At least before they registered as city names and not an ice cream parlor or flavor for that matter. The prospect had Jazz grinning a bit more. That actually sounded like a lot of fun, getting to hang out with Luke and see parts of Alola? Hell yeah.
What really caught Jazz's attention was hearing about fossils. There were actual stores that had fossils? "Wait, there are actual fossil stores here?!? Hell yeah I wanna go. I'd love to see more of Alola too but fossils are fucking awesome!" Man, he really wanted to race ahead now and find that store but that would only get him lost... and leave Luke behind. Neither of which sounded like a good option right then and there. Besides, he had seen Luke smile at the mention of fossils. At this point, Jazz was gonna take what he could get, especially after the conversation they'd just had. He wanted to make things right between them, no matter what the cost.
Post by Luke Indigo on Feb 18, 2018 11:26:29 GMT -8
"They're limited to one per customer in most places, but yeah there are actual fossil stores here," Luke answered reaching up and rubbing the back of his neck. It had surprised him too, honestly, but apparently that was just part of the Alolan economy or something. Slowly getting up and stretching, Luke mumbled something under his breath before making a hand gesture for Jazz to follow.
It'd be a bit of a walk unless they got a ride Pokemon, so he headed down to the Pokemon Center first and had a pretty short conversation with the nurse and the office staff. Thereafter, a Stoutland was rented, and Luke found himself staring up at the massive creature. Orion's was about as big as this, but still it felt massive for some reason. Looking to Jazz for a moment, Luke took in a breath and climbed up on first. Right, he could lead it since he knew his way around a bit more.
After Jazz was securely on behind him, Luke directed the Stoutland down through the Diglett tunnel passage and into Konikoni. The brightness of the town shone even from the moment they appeared on the other side of the passage, and the sounds of music and high voices reverberated here and there. Luke…. Vaguely wondered if there was some kind of festival going on or if there was just some manic cheer given the Christmas spirit. Eh, he'd assume it was the latter. Riding the Stoutland down to the main street, he directed it over to a Pokemon center, got off and explained again inside before leaving it there for now.
"This… is Konikoni," he finally spoke making a gesture to all of it.

As Luke explained about the fossils, Jazz's grin grew that much wider, "That's awesome! Maybeh I kin take one back 'n have eht revived. Ancient Pokemon are so cool, I have quite a few of 'em already~." Man, it would be really neat to collect all the fossil Pokemon at some point in time. Maybe he could go treasure hunting again when they got back home.
Stretching a bit, Jazz followed after Luke, a little curious as to why they were in a Pokecenter initially. The Stoutland rental was something new though and actually pretty cool now that he thought about it. Man, Alola sure was awesome... maybe he could come back and visit more often. Yeah, that would be pretty cool, wouldn't it. As Luke looked at him, Jazz grinned back and watched as he climbed on. Right, they were doing this now it seemed and well, alright, it was a little too nice to have an excuse to hold onto Luke from behind.
As soon as Luke started directing the Stoutland however, Jazz was finding himself a little bit overwhelmed at all the new sights and sounds around him. There was so much to look at and the Diglett tunnel was so awesome! Probably even more so given that there seemed to be something going on no matter where he looked. Jazz almost thought he was going to get whiplash from looking around so much but whatever, it would be worth it. By the time they made it to another Pokemon center and left the Stoutland behind, Jazz's head was spinning.
This is Konikoni. Oh wow, oh Arceus this was something else entirely. Looking around with child-like wonder, Jazz honestly didn't know where to start first. There was music over there but then Luke had mentioned a fossil store oh but look at how much fun those kids were having! That food smelled amazing and ohh, what were those shiny baubles in the window down the street. Hhhhh, there was just too much and wow.
"Arceus..."Jazz murmured, still looking around at what he could see, "Where do we even start? 's so much..." Perhaps a little too much. Jazz didn't get struck speechless very often but apparently this was one of those times. The city was beautiful and he had wanted to say so much more to Luke about it but words failed him. That was ok though, wasn't it?
Post by Luke Indigo on Feb 24, 2018 8:02:28 GMT -8
Luke's lips quirked up as Jazz seemed to take it all in. Yeah, he liked Konikoni too. From the ancient Kantonian looking buildings to the numerous more distinctly Alolan ones, it was rich in culture and aesthetic. Where do we even start? That was a good question, and as he looked around, Luke tried to recapture the layout of the city in his mind. This had been one of the cities he'd spent most of his time in when living in Alola, but it had been more than a couple of months since he had been back (half a year? Or so? When had that happened), so the layout felt a little different.
Liiiiights! Oh, hello Nilly. It had been so quiet through so much of the afternoon that Luke had almost forgotten he was attached to a parasitic interdimensional beast whom he'd promised to get home without really understanding all the implications at the time. Shaking his head, a bit to clear it, Luke slowly stepped forward. "We could just pick a direction and go from there," he answered-mumbled. And if you want to stop in anywhere too, you can, Nil… Of course, the Nihilego was aware of this fact, had never been denied an opportunity since Nik's initial mention that it was technically a tourist in their world, but was nice to hear that it too could play tourist here.
Walking down the street, Luke allowed his gaze to flicker around the numerous stores and stalls. "That place has got a lot of jewelry and- Actually," Luke clasped Jazz's hand and pulled him to follow. "There's something you might like…" Stepping into the store, Luke walked over towards the back where a number of tiny toys sat out on the shelves. "They're mechanical but made of wood rather than metal," he explained reaching up to one.
Post by Jazz Johnson on Mar 13, 2018 15:48:33 GMT -8
Still amazed at what he was seeing around him, Jazz might have started a little when he heard Luke speak again. Huh? Oh, right. Picking a direction would be a good start. There was a lot in the city to look at after all but perhaps if they just started walking they could get to see most of it at least? Hhhh, Mom wouldn't mind too much if they stayed here for a bit, right? Maybe?
Nodding at the response, Jazz stepped forward, managing to keep up with Luke despite how often he was looking around. Honestly, it was a surprise that he hadn't run into anyone just yet but it seemed most of the people were staying out of their way. As Luke started to speak again, Jazz brought his attention back to the redhead. Jewlery, huh? That might be cool- huhwa?
Before Jazz realized it, he was being led along to some other place. He might have blushed a little at having his hand held but it was nice feeling almost normal again, really. Apparently the store Luke was referring to had something he liked? The store in question looked like a kids' store at first and Jazz looked skeptical before Luke explained what the toys were. He'd never seen anything like them before and soon enough, Jazz was carefully looking them over. How had they managed to make something mechanical with wood? It was more maleable certainly which probably meant that a lot more things could be done with it than metal.
"This is awesome," Jazz murmured, tracing some of the details etched into the wood. It was more lightweight than a metal toy would've been and yet surprisingly sturdy. He might have gotten too focused on the toy and was studying them for quite a bit before remembering that Luke was still there. Right. Oops.
Smiling a little sheepishly, Jazz put the toy back a little reluctantly. Did he have enough for something like that? What were the prices even? Maybe he could try doing something like that back home too. "Um... sorry," came the quiet apology as he dropped his gaze from the toys back to Luke. He'd gotten a little too focused there, hadn't he. Still, Luke really did know him, huh? "They're really cool though." That was the understatement of the year judging by the way Jazz's gaze kept drifting back to the toys. He really should just get one of them... maybe one for Vincent too.

Luke bit his lip vaguely hoping that Jazz would like these trinket toys. The way he seemed to look at them and the reply thereafter had him sighing just a bit. Good, good, yeah. After that, though, he allowed his gaze to flicker away from Jazz to the rest of the store. There were plenty of pieces made of different items, wood carvings, color glass-pieces, jewelry of all sorts for different occasions, and the numerous knickknacks all handmade locally. He stepped off for a moment to look at some of the detailed items under a glass casing and remained there until Jazz spoke up again.
As Jazz’s apology hit his ears, Luke looked up again and shook his head. “Ah, it’s fine,” he answered guessing that Jazz meant zoning out on him. He could understand the intrigue in such minute and detailed things, after all. In a way, that was his own art, his own mastery, after all. A couple of steps were taken, and he was back in regular proximity to Jazz again. “You should take one back with you to Veria… It’d be a reminder of a good memory.” Alola in of itself if nothing else, was a good memory to have.

Jazz had almost convinced himself out of buying the wooden mechanical toys when Luke suggested he should buy one. Ah, yeah... Who knew when he would have the chance to come back to Alola again. At least Mom and Vincent seemed happy here. Even his stepdad seemed to mellowed out... quite a lot. Apparently Abe had talked to him and well, that served him right. Really, Jazz almost pitied the bastard for having to sit through that but after what he'd heard from Mom, Jazz couldn't say he was sorry about it. "Yeah, prolly should. They're awesome 'n Vincent might like one too. Maybe I kin find summin for Mom 'ere too." That was a thought, wasn't it. But... what would she like anyway?
Right. He should pick some of the toys he liked the best, huh. Scanning the shelf again, Jazz ended up picking one... two... wait, since when did all those get in his arms? Umm, right. Probably should head to the checkout aaaafter he actually looked for something for Mom. Oh, and maybe for Luke later. Eh... but he was a bit harder to shop for considering he was right there. Well, that just meant he had to be sneaky, didn't it. No problem at all.
Ah, right. First he had to find something for Mom. Oh, didn't this store have other knick knacks? Hmmm, well starting in the jewelry would hel-lo look at those pressed leaves. They were beautiful and like nothing he'd ever seen before. He'd grab a locket and a few of the rings before seeing what else the store had. Umph, maybe he should find a basket or something first. This was starting to get a bit cumbersome. Ohhh, look at those leaves, weren't those neat and... exactly what Luke would want huh. Hmmm.... if he could just distract Luke for a second then he could figure out a way. Ehhh, he could always say it was for Mom and deal with it later.
By the time he looked through the rest of the store, he'd found more than a few things that... probably would be a bit harder to walk around with now that he thought about it. Ah well, hindsight was 20/20 now wasn't it. "'m jis gonna have one o' my pokemon teleport dis back home. Den we kin continue walkin'. Maybeh git sum ice cream 'r go see sum fossils~." An Abra would be released thereafter who would take most of the knick knacks aside from a bag 'accidentally' left on the counter. "Aw, shit. 'e fergot summin. Ehh, 's smol 'nuf 't won't hurt nuthin'." Jazz murmured, looking through it to make sure that it was actually the right bag. Good. He'd wait til a bit later to give Luke and Nilly this. It had to be just the right moment.
Inside the bag were several flower rings (123), a couple small pieces of pressed leaf art (123), and a handmade leather bound journal. Inside the journal, each of the pages were pressed with a decorative flower or plant as a border. Each page was unique but the journal just, felt like Luke and Jazz hoped that he would be able to use it as a sort of field journal. Perhaps he could even press his own flowers and such and write notes on them.

A small nod was given, and Luke found himself looking around again. He had a few things he wanted to get still, some jewelry items that had caught his eye, and a few things for Nilly to puzzle with as well. He would have shopped for his parents, but they lived there among other things, heh. He… guessed he could get something for Orion, actually. He wasn’t exactly there at the moment and all, so… yeah.
As he turned around and saw how much stuff Jazz had brought, however, Luke slapped a hand over his mouth. Arceus, don’t laugh. The mention of teleporting all of it had him nodding a bit, and that hand dropped from his mouth again. Ah, yeah, right. Most of that was probably for Vince and their Mom so… yeah made sense. The mention of a bag left behind earned a small shrug. “Ah well…” He’d carry what he had bought since it wasn’t nearly as much. Shouldering it easily, he walked out of the store and onto the street again.
Ice cream did sound good, yeah. He was pretty sure that parlor was around there somewhere. Fishing out his phone and checking the location, he remembered quickly after that. “Right, up this way is the ice cream shop,” he mentioned before starting to walk again. A yellow eye flickered around taking in all the shop aesthetics and artistry done in the meantime. Nilly was… vaguely fascinated all over again.
