LIGGS CITY
[Old Information]
Introduction & History The Height of Veria as well as its Capital, Liggs is divided into two layers. Surface Liggs stands on a mountain top 9,182 feet above sea level, while Under Liggs is situated inside the mountain in a massive cavern. Numerous elevators can be found all over to travel between the two. Under Liggs is the most prominent mining town in the region, while Surface Liggs is one of its innovative centers. Liggs has thinner air than at sea level. Pokemon Centers and signs warn people of the conditions that can occur because of this. Long ago, individuals who grew tired of Caravella's intercity politics affecting the rest of the region voted to move the capital to a new location, choosing the highest peak in the region to be able to overlook all of it. As one of the oldest cities in Veria, Liggs soon after its founding hit a mining boom that would continue into the present day. While initially individuals lived above ground and dug out the tunnels below for the treasures that lay below, as decades went on and the tunnels were more firmly established, people began to live below as well. A strong rivalry formed between the people above ground and those below it that continues to this day. |
Population & Culture Above and below the surface, Liggs is filled with hard working, passionate people who seek like-minded individuals. The surface is particularly known for inventors and researchers, while down below many miners and rougher individuals carve out the region’s precious fossils and stones. Surface Liggs is highly technical. Hover technology has become fairly common even in the underground. Brain over brawn is the mentality carried by most, as well as the mantra, "work smarter, not harder". That isn't to say the people aren't willing to put in immense effort to achieve breakthroughs that will reduce future workloads. There is a certain level of "elitist" vibe prominent in a few of the scientific communities, and at times an assumption that those from outside the city (and especially those from Under Liggs) are "dumber" by default, but there are also plenty of warm, welcoming people to be found; and even the worst might grow quickly attached to anyone they see prove their merits. Under Liggs values physical strength and have a yearly event known as the Strength Games which includes a lot of strength-based displays. Winners have high status in the city. There is a fierce community bond among the people, and it is not uncommon for folks to have very extended "families" encompassing all their workmates or other close friends. There is a bit of "roughneck" vibe to many of the people, and minor crimes are common here, but they tend to be handled between individuals rather than the police. The combination of most folks not wanting to cause their neighbors too much trouble and the threat of being dealt with by groups of large burly miners rather than the judicial system both worth to help keep crime mostly petty to moderate. The rivalry between the surface of Liggs and underground can get quite out of hand at times, but rarely seeps into actual politics. Pranks gone a bit too far are a bit more common than either side might like to admit, however. At the same time, pranks gone just far enough might be a point of bragging rights. |
City Structure Above ground Liggs has a variety of buildings ranging from rustic earthen architecture to incredibly hyper modern technical spaces. A prevailing theme, however, is to keep the appearance of growing out of the rocky ground that it stands upon. Many small shops find their way right in between big buildings, but there are a couple of residential and commercial areas that are more specific for living and shopping. Underground Liggs is composed of several massive caverns connected by ant-maze-like tunnels, with numerous buildings and shops pressed up against the walls of the tunnel spaces. It’s easy to get lost with so many connecting routes, but one will never be out of bars and places to eat when looking for them. There is a widely varied array of architecture ranging from traditional housing to places carved directly from the stone in the caverns. Under Liggs' passages run right into the Verian Tunnels, and a few subways even make their way through Under Liggs itself as public transportation. Travelers are asked to be careful in the mines and certain stretches of tunnels. While most are structurally sound, there are some older ones still prone to collapse. |
Points of Interest The Liggs City Fighting Gym is located underground to the 'back' of the city, and maintained by Mia Kearney. The Liggs City Flying Gym, also known as the Skydome, is located above ground at the city’s highest point and maintained by Damian Moreau. Morgause Laboratories is a lab where one can revive fossils find in numerous ways. It is run by Michiru Morgause. You can also revive fossils without RP Here. Liggs houses the Pokemon League HQ building. The building rests at one of the lowest points on the surface and descends down through the earth, with its bottom floor setting on the highest point in Under Liggs overlooking the rest of the lower city. In this way, neither can be said to be more important than the other (although citizens of either might say otherwise). Float City is a sector of above-ground Liggs where specialized inventors buy, sell, and produce new hover technology. Liggs Mines and Fossil Fields: The consistent amount of mined ore, fossils, and evolutionary items makes it a place for people searching to get rich. Liggs’s has a world-renowned Museum of Paleontology near the Fossil Fields. |
