MY ACTIONS WILL SPEAK FOR ME AND NOTHING YOU SAY WILL BE MORE LOUD ☼ Malik stepped through the stones outside of carrefor as he made his way deeper into the wilderness. He'd always been told to add more variety to his team, so he supposed he could catch some more Pokemon. As for trusting them though, that was a different story. Not minding the heated rock at all, barefoot, Malik made his way to the top of it and looked around, dark feet standing out from the stone beneath him as he double checked to make sure his sandals were well secured to his back pack.
With his pants rolled up to sit just below his knees, and a black tank top on, he looked more than prepared to deal with the weather, but in reality, he wasn't used to it. It was nothing like Orre, and adapting to it had been a bitch. To his left, a Yamask flickered back into existence and made a small noise towards his young master. By the sounds of it, he hadn't found anything either.
He lived in a real desert, how hard could it be to find Pokemon here? It was much more hospitable than Orre had been. Frowning, he squat down on the rock and took a moment to think. He knew exactly where he was in relation to Carrefor, so he had to plan his routes carefully to make sure he'd make it back before nightfall.

When Sinclair had rounded its way back to Carrefor again, Haiiro couldn't help but take the day off and go into town. There was something very calming about the rustic city, whether it be the terrain that it sat upon or the people that mingled there. Even with his last encounter there being less than "fun", he couldn't help but be drawn again. He'd wander around the city for a while, checking into stores and looking at goods before exiting with some Pokeballs and a fresh pack of supplies. Wandering alongside him at her own pace, Shadow, his faithful Umbreon, seemed vaguely amused. She couldn't help but love the terrain as well, after all, it was the closest it could be to home.
As they moved out further ways from the town, through the stilted brush and broken ground, Haiiro took in the sounds of this rocky prairie. On the wind, somewhere far off, Pokemon were. Shadow, meanwhile, was bounding this way and that. She felt so free here, so alive! If only they could stay longer! Or all the time! It wasn't until that made it around a bend, however, that Shadow noticed a human and Pokemon with him. "Bri," was the brief word. Haii stopped walking and allowed his gaze to focus on what had caught her attention.
Ah… Did that man look lost? Or perhaps he was just refocusing himself? Either way, such things could easily do a lot of damage away from civilization. Haiiro bit the inside of his mouth before slowly fishing out a pen and paper, scratching out a couple of words as he drew closer. The Umbreon, meanwhile, sounded herself a couple more times.

MY ACTIONS WILL SPEAK FOR ME AND NOTHING YOU SAY WILL BE MORE LOUD ☼ Just as Malik went to stand and continue moving forward once his mental mapping was finished, he was stopped by a sound he didn't quite recognize. Looking over, both he and Mojave noticed the trainer and the Pokemon. An Umbreon? And was he getting out a pencil and paper?? Curious and not quite daunted yet, Malik tilted his head and watched the other individual approach.
Mojave let out a soft 'yama?' as he did his best to observe the Umbreon from a save distance. Stepping down from the stone he was on, he at least made an attempt to approach as well, even by a step or two. "...uh..... hello?" Malik asked softly, both of his hands resting by his side, wrists braced by heav bandaging should he need to climb anything. He his self looked more than prepared to be out here in the desert, and from what he could make out, this trainer seemed the same way.
He gave Mojave a quick glance before his eyes returned to the trainer, curious about what he was doing with a pen and paper. Was... was he mute? He remembered a kid with a family at an orphanage that talked with his hands, sign language, but that was it. He'd never seen pen and paper. Maybe this was his courteous way of communicating where others could understand? Oh god was he overthinking this?

Shadow came to a small stop a little in front of Haiiro. Her eyes flickered from the man who had also approached to his Ghostly Pokemon nearby. "Bri," she greeted again very briefly, a physical acknowledgement of the other's presence. Her ears twitched, taking in the extra sounds around her, least a wild Pokemon sneak up that needed a good pouncing. Granted, it wasn't like she needed to train all that much being both fully evolved and beyond her peek years.
Haiiro gave a small nod in return greeting before finally finishing up his note and turning it around.
-- Sorry if I'm disturbing you, but I wanted to make sure you weren't lost--
The words were written plainly, in an almost print-like font style. Haiiro's handwriting was on point in every sense of the word. And yes, even if the man before him looked well prepared for the desert up close now that he was there, the prospects of actually being set adrift in it were not as promising or kind.

MY ACTIONS WILL SPEAK FOR ME AND NOTHING YOU SAY WILL BE MORE LOUD ☼ Malik blinked when his Yamask decided to hide behind him, but he couldn't blame him. The other Pokemon across from them was a dark type after all. Looking over his shoulder to Mojave, who was now dangling on said shoulder, he shrugged to the ghost, and the ghost shrugged back.
The trainer across from him turned the paper around and showed the note. Well, at least it was easy to read, and he wasn't writing in the same chicken scratch that his doctor wrote in. "No. I'm not lost." he shook his head before furrowing his brow, digging his feet into the dust to try and find comfort, but it wasn't the same as the deep sands outside of Phenac. "Are you maybe lost?" It didn't seem likely, but he didn't want to blow off that possibility either.
His eyes looked around the sharp rocks, ears listening for any crumbling that may show that there's a pokemon around, but so far, nothing. It was silence... and the wind. Same as when he started. Oddly quiet day, unless maybe they just weren't out yet.

Dark blue eyes blinked, and a small nod was given. Well, that was good at least. Now he felt vaguely awkward for asking in the first place, but a small shrug would dispel that. It was as the man's legs moved that Haiiro's eyes dropped and regarded his bare feet. Out here? As the question was returned to him, his gaze flickered up again, a small shake of head given. He hesitated again before turning the paper sideways and writing along that edge as well.
-- Just out looking for Pokemon both to battle and catch.-- This was probably more information than was necessary, or maybe took more words than was necessary, but Haiiro wasn't one to change his speech patterns for efficiency's sake. After the man had read it, a differnet thought came to him, and he flipped it back and wrote a bit faster before turning it around again. While the Common phonetics were clear to read, the symbolic language above was clearly Kantonian in origin. The language itself had long since been lost to him, but there were some things he did not forget. -- Haiiro Navi is my name -- his own name given they'd already reached several words.

MY ACTIONS WILL SPEAK FOR ME AND NOTHING YOU SAY WILL BE MORE LOUD ☼ Ok, well they were out here for similar purposes it seemed. Malik didn't know the different phonetics in most languages so he noticed no differences in anything unless it was a glaringly obvious accent. "Same." He answered simply, blinking as he quickly turned and began writing again.
This was different... but it was nice. He wasn't being overwhelmed with strange words or voices with no tone control. "Malik." He returned as he turned the page back to him and revealed his name. He didn't have a last name his self, the name he was born with was no longer his when he was plucked up from Pyrite with no next of kin that could legally take him, much less wanted him. But he didn't know that, for as long as he could remember, he was just 'malik'. Nothing more nothing less.
Looking to his Yamask in silent question, Mojave seemed to understand it and floated forward, slightly in front of Malik. "Group up?" You could never be too careful in an area like this. He honestly had no idea how prepared the other trainer was for battles, if he was as under equipped Pokemon wise as Malik was, but it never hurt to ask. Just like back in Orre, the last thing you wanted to happen was to bump into angry dune Pokemon out there on your own. Or a group of Cacturne roaming the desert as the sun set.

Malik- It was a nice enough name, one Haiiro would commit to memory if he could. Perhaps he even scribbled it out on a page to himself for later. Things like names and faces were worth remembering, after all. At the suggestion, however, he blinked. Blue eyes flickered to Shadow, and a small click reverberated from him. The Umbreon looked back and then forward again before uttering a small 'Um' in response. She wouldn't mind wandering the wayside with this extra human for a bit. Safety in numbers was something she understood.
As that was decided, Haiiro allowed his gaze to flick back to Malik again, and a small nod was given. Since they were both hunting Pokemon, might as well see what there was to offer. Hm, actually. Fishing out a Pokeball from the pocket of his coat, he released a Skarmory up into the sky. The metal bird, coated in old battle scars, glistened in the light for a moment before he climbed upwards, searching for anything of particular interest. Haiiro nodded a bit softly to himself again.
A page was turned, and Haiiro started writing again as he moved a bit. -- The Umbreon's name is Shadow. The Skarmory's name is Steel. -- It was probably evident by that alone that he might not have been the most creative of persons.

MY ACTIONS WILL SPEAK FOR ME AND NOTHING YOU SAY WILL BE MORE LOUD ☼ His flat expression lifted into a small smile as he looked to the two Pokemon, shadow and steel. Grabbing another Pokeball, he let out his Trapinch, one of the main Pokemon he needed to train... and learn to trust. He was obviously still a little wary of the Pokemon, but after a moment, he looked back to the other human in the group and pointed to the respective Pokemon as he said their names.
"Mojave, Sonoran." He didn't get much time to say anything else though, as Mojave let out a low, ominous noise, hands balling into fists as the sounds of buzzards finally took over the skies. Malik blinked and looked up, eyeing the shadows in the sky right.. before. Oh, that Mandibuzz was diving at him and it didn't look too happy. "Sonoran, Hyper Beam."
His intention was to hit it with something powerful enough to blast it off course, and if this didn't do it, he didn't know what would. And it worked too, his Trapinch firing off a powerful beam of energy, clipping the Mandibuzz's wing, causing it to crash to the ground on the other side of Malik, missing him by just a foot or so.
His head swiveled back and forth to the two Vullaby on one side and the Mandibuzz on another. He had no time to acknowledge the Slakoth properly and found his self ducking down, but not entirely out of the way of a Feint attack from one of the Vullaby. "Mojave, Will-o-wisp" He should probably use a Pokemon more effective than this, but suddenly switching out wouldn't do him any good. Both him and his team had to learn how to fight against the odds, and that meant battling against their weaknesses. He ignored the burn in his shoulder from where he was scratched easily as he focused on his Pokemon's positioning and conditions. Besides, his Trapinch was back there getting harassed. They all were, from various angles! These things were bad no matter what region you were in, it seemed. Maybe they were just protecting the nest? But they weren't near one he didn't think, why go to such extent? Maybe this is just how a mom takes care of her kids.
Violently. With incredibly high levels of territorial aggression. No that didn't sound right. Moms were supposed to be loving, yea? Well, not in all cases. He was getting distracted! No, bad Malik.
Flames whipped out from the Yamask, ghostly fires licking at the Vullaby that had attacked while another stayed back and considered how to jump in without harming mother on the other side, or her sister diving in without warning. Sonoran was letting out a low growl as the Mandibuzz came back in for a feint attack on him, knocking him back but not before he grasped one of the bird's legs in a crunch, jaw locking and crunching with pressure for just a moment before he had to let go. That or get carried up and off the safety of the ground. He didn't have his wings yet. Mojave, Hex. Sonoran, Rock Slide." There was no point in risking Shadow or the other person here in a Sandstorm, so he'd just have to hold back giving his Trapinch a small advantage and besides, Mojave may have been from the desert but he wasn't immune to the damage either.
The Vullaby that Mojave had burned was now finally focused on him instead of Malik, it began flapping it's wings violently, blades of cutting air coming towards the group but not before it got caught up in Mojave's Hex. That looked like that hurt, making a frustrated face though, he turned back to his Trapinch snapping at the Mandibuzz, who was flapping her wings wildly, trying to find a position to dive in towards the violent and aggressive Pokemon.
'Must suck to meet something just a mean' Malik thought as he watched before relaxing his face back into it's flat expression. Rocks had appeared from seemingly nowhere and moved in, striking the Mandibuzz, sending it into a bit of a daze at how something so small could hit so hard. "Sonoran, Rock Slide one more time." The loud, crunching noise of rocks forming and flying towards the Mandibuzz were followed by a thudding noise once again as they struck home, effectively knocking the buzzard from the sky. "Nice job Sonoran, now come help Mojave." The ghost was in a horrible position.
Not a single super effective attack and if the Pokemon used feint attack again, it was going to hurt and there was nothing he could do. "Sonoran, again. On the Vullaby in the back." Crunch and Feint would just be a waste of energy, and Hyper Beam was too risky to use again in such a short amount of time. So he just decided to stick with the super effective attacks. "Mojave, Hex." He was in just a bad a position. As Malik went down a mental list of moves that his Yamask knew, he shook his head. Not even Energy Ball would do them any good here. He really didn't think through his defense against dark types with this Pokemon and he hated it.
He could be such an idiot at times. As the Rock Slide struck the second Vullaby and knocked it backwards, not another noise of protest coming from it as it lay on the ground, he could focus on Mojave much more. Hex may have been not very effective, but the extra damage he was putting out with it matching his own type and with the Vullaby being burned seemed to be doing the trick.
Mojave faded out of the way of a clumsily aimed airslash and took it upon his self to use Hex again. Three times now, it had to go down- There, it finally went down. With a heavy sigh, he pulled Mojave to his chest, turning to look at the other male with him to see what was going on down there. "I'm sorry Mojave. I should have prepared you better for dark types." He spoke under his breath, just to the Pokemon. Thankfully, he got a quiet, reassuring 'yama' from the Pokemon as well. It was almost as if Mojave knew what to say at all times.

Blue eyes shifted over the Pokemon as they were named, and a small nod was given to each. Haiiro wasn't sure he knew how to spell those exactly, but he could remember their phonetics at least in his own head. And then just like that, sounds reverberated in his ears. Shadow hissed, drawing a bit closer to him protectively, but as it became apparent what was coming, Haiiro shifted, a hand going to his coat.
…. At least until the blast from the Trapich had both him and Shadow jolting some. That was… a very powerful move. A small series of hand signs had the Umbreon waiting for now. If the other trainer and his Pokemon could take care of this, they would certainly let him. Still, Shadow was quick to Screech at a couple of the birds to keep them away from her human. Thankfully it seemed as though Malik could take care of them all for the most part.
Steel, however, was having a rough time elsewhere. A Skarmory in an unknown land would normally keep other Pokemon at bay by its sheer force alone, yet the power of a Flygon was not to be challenged. Soon enough, the cries of an aerial battle, a vicious nasty scene, would catch Haiiro's attention, and as much as he wanted to see the resolution of the other battles, he would not abandon his duty as a trainer. Steel. The Skarmory clashed wing for wing against the Flygon before cycling back around just in time to dodge a Dragon Breath. How long he could keep it up, however, was questionable at this point.
A flash of light, and a Fraxture was on the field. Dragon Dance the physical sign was given, and the creature was quick to do as such. The sharp eyes of the Skarmory already registered what was happening, and rather quickly, he flew lower, inadvertently drawing the Flygon down with him. Dual Chop came another sign. Summoning up the draconic power, the Fraxture leapt upwards just as the Flygon was coming down. CRACK. CRACK. A sharp cry burst from the Flygon who'd been chopped at the neck and then at the back. Slamming to the ground unceremoniously, she fainted immediately from such a nasty powered up move. Steel caught a gust of wind upwards and elicited a cry of showmanship. Even if he had led it there, it was the Fraxture that had managed to get it down.
Haiiro allowed a subtle smile to come to his features before fishing out and tossing an Ultra Ball at the creature. Heh… it was almost just like another one he'd had….. almost……. The poor Slakoth, meanwhile, would go ignored by both humans.

MY ACTIONS WILL SPEAK FOR ME AND NOTHING YOU SAY WILL BE MORE LOUD ☼ Was... was it over? He watched as Haiiro wrapped up the last of his battle as well, still holding onto the Yamask, careful not to hurt him too badly... even if he was a ghost. Looking to the Fraxure and Skarmory, Malik seemed to be a little intimidated by both, but at the same time he seemed to be in a bit of awe at the sight.
Stepping over a few paces, he looked at the all around damage, letting the Slakoth continue to mind it's own business or whatever it wanted. "Are you and your Pokemon ok?" He felt the need to ask, that was the proper thing to do, right? Manners and what not? He finally relinquished his hold on Mojave to allow the ghost type to go about his own business. Sonoran in the meanwhile, sat down with a soft thud, watching the other Pokemon with his usual, almost blank looking expression.

As the Pokeball dinged in capture, Haiiro let out a slow breath he hadn't realized he'd been holding. The Fraxure at his side uttered a cry of pride while Shadow sat down and allowed herself a moment to relax. Steel, meanwhile, was continuing to circle. Blue eyes raised upwards, reflecting his centripetal path. The sheen of the Skarmory's blades reverberated even up at that altitude. He could cut just about anything with that metal.
Are you and your Pokemon ok? Blue eyes dropped again reflecting the dark skinned bright haired man. A small nod was given. They were a little rough for wear as he could tell from Steel's motions, but the Fraxure had not been touched, only done the touching, and Shadow hadn't been part of the battle exactly. His gaze, however, did draw over the Yamask and Trapinch. A hand shifted to his pencil and paper, and a quick note was written out. -- They will be fine. Steel was my first Pokemon and can take more than he lets on. Thank you for your concern. Your Pokemon look like they might need a rest, though. - He flipped it forward again looking just a little concerned.
The Fraxure, meanwhile, stretched and looked around, starting to stray just a little ways. Shadow glowered a little irritated that she was wandering off but wouldn't say anything just yet.

MY ACTIONS WILL SPEAK FOR ME AND NOTHING YOU SAY WILL BE MORE LOUD ☼ Malik nodded some when it was affirmed that his Pokemon were ok. "Good." He looked down to Sonoran and the Yamask draped over him, frowning a bit. "Yea. They ... they deserve a little rest." Malik was used to the sun, so he was easily capable of sitting down on a rough, desert stone, crossing his bare feet under him as he reached down to scoop up the two Pokemon with ease.
Sonoran let out a small croak but relaxed in Malik's lap, his Yamask doing the same. He was still wary of the Trapinch in his lap, but he was going to have to keep making these bolder efforts to trust strange Pokemon. "It's nice when a Pokemon is a long time friend." His voice was lower than earlier as he pat the ghost's head, earning a 'yaaa' from the Pokemon.
Both of the Pokemon continued relaxing though, taking this opportunity to relax and get their energy back. While they did that, Malik lifted his head to regard the lighter skinned man, avoiding eye contact, but taking in what he could. It was kind of nice to be around another person that didn't chatter his ear off.
