Wandering through the streets of Caravella, Luke mumbled a bit to himself. A simple black messenger bag was cutting into his shoulder, and the surprising heat at the moment was doing nothing for him in a t-shirt, jeans, and lab coat. Ugh. And his hair was becoming more of a mess by the second. He probably shouldn't have even tried to brush it out given Nilly's existence, but here he was anyways.
A single yellow eye darted here and there, drawing in the buildings as he passed, before dropping again to the paper in his hand. Ok, it's somewhere around here then… Whether it was a gym yet or just a shop at the moment or something else entirely, Luke hadn't been able to look up online, but it was somewhere around here, right? I swear if the League info is out of date again I'll… Luke chewed the inside of his mouth knowing just as well that he didn't have as much power in the system as he would have liked.
Looking back down at the piece of paper again, he walked a couple more steps only to colldie with someone in front of him. "Sh- sorry?!" He took a quick couple of steps back and raised a hand to the back of his neck.

As it would turn out, Luke wouldn't have much farther to look. Upon looking at who he had bumped into, he'd notice that it was a slightly younger woman also in a lab coat, and that she matched any description that the league may or may not have given her. Additionally, were he to look to the side, he'd see what looked like a very simple clinic, attached to what a much larger building that could very easily be a gym. That said, one look was all it would take to tell that said Gym was still being set up; that much was obvious even from the outside.
As for the woman herself, she stumbled a bit due to the sudden impact, but had little trouble regaining her balance."No harm done...I should have paid more attention to where I was going myself." Her Venomoth, who had been hovering by her side, looked to the man with a defensive stare, as if ready to retaliate. However, all it took to calm the Pokemon down was a gentle tap on the head. "Easy, girl. It was just an accident." Apparently, this was all the Venomoth needed to hear. "Sorry about her...she tends to get a little defensive."
With that out of the way, Dahlia finally took a moment to take a good look at the man who had bumped into her, frowning slightly upon noticing the lab coat he was wearing. "...I apologize if this comes off as rude, but...if you're looking for a job, I'm afraid I'm not hiring at the moment. It's nothing personal...it's just, three people have already approached me looking for one, and I simply don't have the money available to hire anyone. At this point, I'd rather just nip the whole thing at the bud than get anyone's hopes up for nothing."

As his yellow eye actually settled on the woman he had bumped into, Luke would indeed cop to who he was actually talking to pretty fast. He'd seen her picture very briefly from a League file, and she was distinct enough among people (and weirdly reminiscent of someone he knew personally) that it was easy to put the picture and name with the actual face. He wouldn't, however, register her clinic or gym right then, ironically enough.
As the Venomoth shifted, Luke's eyes flickered over to her, drawing over the Bug's form and fashion. "Ah uh- it's fine," he answered a bit weakly if assuredly. Had he had his service Pokemon out, right then, he probably would have gotten a similar reaction (why hadn't he thought to let Spidey out while he was walking? Where was his brain these days, ugh.)
The apology, however, had him fidgeting slightly. Oh, that was- she was- ah. It clicked pretty fast, but he was left feeling strangely embarrassed anyways. "No I'm- I'm-" He paused, took a breath, and calmed again. "Luke Indigo, actually, the Berry Professor here." Yeah that was a little smoother. A hand reached for the lanyard that was normally there only to stop on remembering that he'd packed it in his bag. Ah whatever, he'd pull it out later if need be, Luke guessed. "You're Dahlia Althea, though, right?" And right after that, he registered just what these buildings were that she was standing outside of.
…Oh.

Dahlia blinked at how shy the man seemed, slightly raising an eyebrow as he stumbled over his own words a bit. Though he seemed to collect himself once it mattered. When he finally introduced himself, Dahlia's eyes widened as she name realized just how wrong her assumption was. "Oh...I see. Please forgive my rude assumption. I had heard quite a lot about you, of course...it's just this is my first time actually seeing you." Feeling a little embarrassed, over her blunder, she let out a heavy sigh. At least this can't get any worse.
That said, she was in for an even bigger surprise when he asked for her by name, to which he nodded. "Yes, that's right...as I'm sure you're aware, I just recently moved here and became the Poison-type Gym Leader. Granted, my Gym isn't quite ready to accept challengers yet, but I'm hoping to have everything up and running within the next couple of weeks." She then, with a small smile, looked towards her clinic. "If you'd like, why don't we continue this inside? I've got a small apartment in the upper levels of the clinic."
She paused for a bit, and continues "Oh, and if you're thirsty, I can make some tea or coffee...I might have some Berry Juice leftover as well...it's not often that I entertain guests, but I can at least do that much."

Luke was… more than a little grateful that Dahlia recognized his name so quickly. Some vague part of him almost wanted to be offended that she didn't recognize him in turn, but that was silly (or Nilly actually) and unreasonable to assume. At least he'd gotten her name right, though. As she reaffirmed what she was and her Gym status at the moment, Luke gave a small nod, his gaze flickering to the clinic and Gym thereafter.
The offer to continue inside had him nodding briefly before actually verbalizing a simple. "Ah, yes thank you." But as she paused and continued, he couldn't help but feel more invited in that way? His lips curled and then warmed even more into a simple smile. "Thank you… tea or coffee, whichever is easiest, would be nice as well."
As they presumably started to move, Luke allowed his gaze to flicker over the area again, taking in the details and trying to pin down the location in his mind for later. Briefly, his eyes laid into the Venomoth again before looking forward. "I was hoping that we might collaborate on some different medical projects together, eventually," he commented as they went on.
Poisonnnnnn.. Nilly's voice reverberated in Luke's mind, and he couldn't help but smile a little. Yeah, Nilly, but they turn into medicines. It knew that about a well as Luke did but was still vaguely amused for whatever reason.

Once they were inside the clinic, Dahlia would lead Luke through a door in the back, away from the public waiting room, with lead to a small case of stairs. Up those stairs was small apartment on the second floor. It wasn't very big, but it was perfect for someone living by themselves. Plus the living room was still large enough to accommodate at least a few guests, so long as they weren't planning on staying overnight. It had some pretty basic furnishings; a couch and a couple chairs, a coffee table, a couple bookshelves and a medium-sized TV.
As Luke settled in, Dahlia was preparing to make something to drink. Since he didn't appear to care what she made, she defaulted to tea, as that personally sounded better to her at the moment. That was when he dropped yet another pleasant surprise. He wanted to collaborate with her on some projects? With the way he worded it, it sounded like it wouldn't be an immediate thing, but the offer almost sounded too good to be true. "I...I would love that, actually. If you don't mind my asking, what kinds of projects will these be?"

Dahlia’s set up was vaguely similar to Luke’s own in a way, business on the bottom floor living quarters above. He guessed that was the standard with any business of that nature, though. In most cases, especially personal ones like this, it just made the most sense. On entering the living room, Luke hesitated momentarily before situating himself on the aforementioned couch. He never did ascribe to the whole ‘make yourself at home’ philosophy but could afford to sit back and at least try and relax a little.
Surprise did flicker into Luke’s gaze as Dahlia spoke, however. She’d love that? He had no reason to not believe she wouldn’t but— hearing it so frankly was incredibly nice? Despite himself, Luke smiled a bit warmer thereafter. “Currently an area of research that I’ve become interested in is changing the clinical concentrations of different medicines,” he started out slowly. “And also using different combinations to heightened different drug effects rather than raising the concentration. My lab has been studying this predominately with the Chroma Cookie research that I’ve been doing for months now, but …” He took in a slow inhale and reverberated with a slower exhale. “I believe a lot of medicines can be amplified and modified in ways that would reduce their active ingredient requirements by adding a less expensive passive ingredient.” It would make medicines cheaper, for sure, among other things.

As she continued to prepare the tea, she listened quietly as he explained his current line of work, and it sounded quite impressive indeed. She heard heard about the so-called Chroma Cookie when it first hit the market. Admittedly, she had no personal interest in such a thing; she was very much comfortable with being a female, and she wasn't nearly curious enough about what it was like to be a male to bother with it. That said, she couldn't deny that it was an amazing achievement in the medical field, so she greatly admired it on a professional level.
Either way, the tea was finished just as he was done explaining. Pouring a cup for him and herself, she quietly placed it on the coffee table in font of him, before taking a seat herself in one of the chairs. "I see...that does sound very interesting. Admittedly, I have given such a thing some consideration, though my own research tends to keep me quite busy, so I haven't had much time to pursue it...to be perfectly honest, even if I did, I wouldn't even know where to begin. Either way, if you're serious about a collaboration, I'd be more than happy to help."
Normally, this would be the part where she wakes up and this whole thing turns out to be some sort of dream. It almost felt too good to be true. Either way, she was already a little excited at the prospect. "Of course, I'll also have to take my work at the league into consideration as well. My gym isn't open yet, but there's no doubt my responsibilities will greatly increase once it does. Still...I'm confident that I'll be able to balance the various workloads efficiently. It will hardly be my first time."

Shifting to clasp the cup as it was set before him, Luke breathed in the steam briefly before exhaling over it. Warmth and a pleasing scent eased Luke and Nilly in turn. That was certainly very nice. That and how interested Dahlia seemed in the overall prospects of such collaboration and work. Her skills and pharmacy background would certainly add a lot to …. Just about every project he was doing aside from one highlight in particular— Nilly.
A small nod was given as she mentioned the various workloads and going-ons she had to attend to. Yeah, their work was slightly different especially when it came to the nature of Poekmon in conjunction with it. “That’s understandable,” Luke answered briefly before she went on. “Balancing work is a skill that takes practice but gets easier with time.” He knew that from experience— even though he was testing that experience by working as much as he was right then.
That brought about a slightly different thought, however. “I don’t battle Pokemon often but have some Poison types as well…” he mentioned offhandedly. “Most of them provide me with samples to use in antidotes among other things, but they’re very powerful Pokemon in their own right.” Especially those with a Dark typing attached considering how it reduced their weaknesses. “Is practicing pharmacy part of why you chose to raise the Type?” Or had it been the other way around that had attracted her interest? Or something else entirely.

Dahlia nodded quietly, smiling softly at his understanding her concerns. She was used to balancing multiple responsibilities at once, so she wasn't too worried. If she wasn't confident in her ability to do so, she never would have considered taking the Gym Leader position. All the same, it was an admittedly daunting task. Soon though; once she was able to get her gym fully set up and establish a routine, things will hopefully go a lot smoother. "Indeed it does. If all goes well, I should be in my own personal groove within next month."
Following this, the subject shifted to Poison-types, which made her quite happy. Being a specialist of them, she was always more then happy to discuss them at length. "Indeed. What they lack in raw power, they make up for with their ability to weaken the foe. Whether it be through afflicting status ailments or lowering their offensive and defensive abilities, they can be surprisingly devastating, even if not many of them can be considered a heavy hitter." She smiled fondly as she spoke. It wasn't often that she got to geek out like this.
"Of course, that lack of raw power is one of their main weaknesses. Not to mention a lot Pokemon being able to learn powerful moves like Psychic and Earthquake." When she heard his next question, she paused for a moment "...well, that's not inaccurate...to be perfectly honest, I didn't have any intentions of becoming a trainer at first. It was a bit of a happy accident that I discovered how useful Poison-type Pokemon could be in medicine." She glanced at her Venomoth with a fond expression. This brought her back.
"To make a long story short, I found Dusty here injured when she was still a Venonat, and, as a reflex, unleashed a cloud of Poison Powder when I approached her. I managed to avoid breathing it in, but some of it stuck to my coat...on a whim, I gathered a sample and put it under a microscope, which ultimately lead to a breakthrough for a medicine my mother was working on. After that, I found myself a lot more interested in Pokemon...thus here I am."
