Mission name: Healing Pains Participants: Lucien Spawning?: 3 situations in the hospital where Lucien has to use Aura Channeling (750-1000 words) Mission details: While he was in the hospital, Lucien made friends with quite a number of the physicians and nurses that were there, and he has since asked Viola if he can't spend some of his training time working there. It would force him to use his Aura Channeling more and maybe give him more control in time. She's agreed on the stipulation that she sees actual results- which is gonna stress him out for sure.
New Skill: Old Skill:: Aura Channeling (Minor, 1): With his aura, Lucien is capable of projecting positive/calming vibes as well as negative/unnerving ones up to 10 feet in any direction. These feelings are very subtle but can often add or take the edge off of a situation. Lucien's main focus is on positive emotions / calming vibes. He can even expend bits of aura to heal small wounds such as scratches, scrapes, and mild bruises either on himself or a single person. Notably, he needs not only to be calm when doing this but also focused in a particular way.
With his Aura Sight and Aura Tracking powers on top of his advancing knowledge of Aura Channeling, Lucien is also actively aware of when Aura Channeling is occurring in his 'sight range' and can pinpoint the projector and receiver even from a distance. Due to his Aura Mediated Emotion Reading on top of this, Lucien can even get an understanding of what emotions are being channeled without necessarily feeling them for himself. To Lucien, Aura Channeling often looks like waves of aura moving out like ripples of water, sometimes linking people together and sometimes not. A heavier recipient of the feelings will often glow with another person's aura for a little while as well, and Lucien can 'sniff out' the giver rather easily thereafter.
New Skill: Aura Channeling (Major,2): With his aura, Lucien is capable of projecting positive/calming vibes as well as negative/unnerving ones up to 20 feet in any direction. These feelings are less subtle than his Minor form but still most often add or take the edge off of a situation. The closer in proximity one is to him when he's using Channeling will often affect how they are affected.
Lucien's main focus is on positive emotions / calming vibes. He can expend some aura to heal small wounds such as scratches, scrapes, mild bruises, and deeper aches either on himself or a single person in a short timespan (upwards of 30 seconds). Larger wounds are possible to heal but take longer amounts of time (upwards of a few minutes). His limit is ameliorating a couple of deep gashes. He can speed this up, however, by taking small bits of someone willingly giving him aura. Notably, he needs not only to be calm when doing this but also focused in a particular way.

"You're looking a lot better today, I see~" A nurse smiled. Lucien smiled and shrugged his shoulders nonchalantly before explaining why he was actually there. "Oh?" the woman blinked. "I'll have to ask my supervisor, but … I'll see what I can do. Just wait here, ok?"
It had been three weeks since the incident that had hospitalized him, and while he was still hurting now and again, Lucien had found that rest was the biggest answer to everything. He did his best to… really consider and focus on his physical needs, and that had helped in ways he wasn't even expecting. Who knew getting an extra couple of hours a night and not drinking so much could refresh him like this hahahah~! It…. Kind of did sicken him that he kind of had to give up a lot of stuff he'd been focusing on for this, but…. but he had time, right? Even if he wasn't immortal.
Now, though, he was aiming to do a bit of repayment towards the hospital. Sure his dad was wealthy and had footed all the bills with no problem, but these people had also become Lucien's friends of sorts so…. So yeah~? Maybe help them out and train himself in the process, hah. Something like that.

Aura channellers aren't miracle workers, and its not recognized by everyone with a medical degree. While the friends Lucien made trust him they won't take too large a risk right away. You've been put in the free clinic working alongside a nurse, try and heal a few cases of nausea or aching limbs, even if you just soothe them, it'll lend some credence to your capabilities and maybe you'll get to look at some more difficult cases.

Lucien was… pretty thankful that he didn't get asked to do anything major right off the bat. He was just as pleased to be taken at least somewhat seriously too, though. Shadowing a nurse and being given a couple orders here and there was about as much as he could hope for at least at first, and that was what he spent the morning doing for the most part. He walked around the clinic, did some heavy lifting here and there with the help of his aura, but for a while, he just sat around lazily. This probably wasn't what Viola had intended, but it did make Lucien feel pretty good. At least he could do something.
It would be later in the day that they came in with a child complaining about pain. The doctors couldn't really find anything wrong with the boy, but he was insistent he hurt, and his worried mother was insistent that they do something. After several of the nurses tried various different things, one of them finally suggested having Lucien try whatever crazy magic he had up his sleeve. Looking up from the magazine he had been reading in the office, Lucien blinked at the nurse's words. O-oh yeah? This was… totally a chance to show off then, maybe. If nothing else, he knew he could get the kid calm with aura.
Coming into the boy's room, Lucien flashed a smile at him and his mom. The boy's mom raised an eyebrow at him, but she was willing to do anything at this point. The boy, meanwhile, had holed up in the bed corner making faces. He was hurting! They couldn't do anything about it! And he'd been poked and prodded and was now distrustful of these adults! Even Lucien looked like an adult to a four year old. His bright red and orange aura tinged with some deep blue was very vibrant in contrast to his mother's somber bluer color. Even without knowing them, Lucien could understand there was more than just physical pain going on here.
Lucien hesitated for a moment. He… was supposed to be helping with physical stuff, not… er… Well, he supposed it was all part of aura in the end, yeah. Slowly starting to draw up that calming energy, he approached. It spread outwards in gentle waves, slowly filling the room. Both the mother and the boy seemed to slowly start to lull, relax. Lucien shifted a little before climbing up onto the bed and sat down. "Dun worreh, ah'm kinda magical," Lucien explained. "Ah c'n fix anything." The boy looked at him still a bit skeptically but slowly gave a nod. Ok, he kind of maybe believed in magic. Slowly, the boy would let Lucien clasp his hand, and the sense of touch would increase the vibrations all the more.
After ten minutes or so, the boy slowly started to crawl into Lucien's lap, folding in on him and mumbling softly. Instinctively, Lucien folded his arms around him. The way his aura had settled and moved now looked so sleepy by comparison to what it had. Luci simply pat him gently for a while. It would be after that, however, that the woman slowly set her face in her hands. She cried quietly, tiredly. The muscles in Lucien's stomach tensed, and he didn't really know whether or not to acknowledge her.
It seemed he wouldn't have to as she started talking of her own accord. "It's been so hard…" Lucien might have asked 'what has', but the woman went on before he even needed to voice it. "We just lost his father… I …. I couldn't stand to lose him too…" Lucien couldn't understand, but he didn't need to. The way that her aura rose up and shrunk down made her feelings obvious enough. "So when he said he was hurting I just… I couldn't take it…"
"Oh…" Was all Lucien would answer back with. The woman looked up at him, her gaze searching his face for something, anything.
She was speaking again anyways. "I know it might just be a tantrum but…. but…"
"E iz hurtin'," Lucien answered. The woman blinked surprised. Lucien offered a weak smile and a small shrug. "Iz aura is…" His soul was. "Yer nawt tha only one who feels… loss ah guess…" The way in which the woman's aura rose up and stretched to touch the boy in his arm's made it evident enough that she understood his meaning. Slowly, she too would stand up again reaching her arms out for the child. Lucien handed him to her. "Yer gonna be ok." What was he saying? How could he say that? The woman just nodded a bit and thanked him before finally heading to the door.
The nurse that came in after that seemed surprised- warry and surprised. She asked him what he'd done, and he shrugged for a moment before finally explaining what he had gathered. She seemed to od slowly to herself. "Well… maybe you can help us out more in the coming weeks…"
And he would, actually, do quite a bit here and there assisting emotional patients and slowly healing those who had minor issues. A couple days would turn into a week, and Lucien found how much he just enjoyed it in general.

A mother with her son rushes into the area. The son has cut himself, and the bleeding is profuse. While Aura Channeling, especially at Lucien's current stage, won't quite heal the boy's wound, it can, however, be used to not only calm the panicked boy, but also alleviate some of the bleeding, not only helping the doctors treat the wound, but demonstrating the effects of Aura Channeling on a surface level.

Another week passed, and Lucien was becoming a normal face among the staff. While he had little to offer in the way of technical knowledge or clinical experience, he had come to be reasonably respected as someone who was good at calming others. The staff was still skeptical of Aura Channeling even after some had felt its effects here and there, but that was just fine with Lucien. So long as he could help out now and again, that filled the gap he was otherwise left with. Now if only his shoulders and back would stop fucking up from time to time, heh. Damn he was hurting, and there was only so much he was willing to do with Channeling to deal with it. He needed at least some for work, after all, heh.
He was sitting in a tiny little desk space he'd been given, reading a magazine he'd bought recently, when a shrill cry reverberated through the area. Every muscle in Lucien tensed at once, and he found himself on his feet before he even realized it. Several nursed were rushing passed him headed to the front. Lucien wouldn't even make it to the front before a cart came back around with a child screaming and crying on it. A woman followed passed the nurses, her eyes wet with tears. She didn't even see him as she ran passed.
Lucien hesitated for only a moment before taking after them as well. They were back in a hospital room, and several people were moving everywhere at once. "Where is the doctor?" "He stepped out for just a minute." "Go grab him, now." A woman came running out as Lucien was stepping around, and they nearly collided had it not been for her swift actions. "We have to stop this bleeding!" "He's just bleeding straight through the gauze though!" "Keep padding the wound!" Arceus. Lucien looked on in horror for a moment as the staff moved about and the child writhed and cried more.
The child's mother had been pushed into a corner and told to remain where she was. Her eyes flashed to him in terror, and for a moment, he wasn't even sure she was looking at him so much as through him. Her lips moved, however, and the word 'help' escaped form her in tandem with a scream of the child. Help… help… help he had to help. What else am I here for, even?
Before he even realized what he was doing, Lucien was stepping inwards, summoning up his aura and blasting it through the room. An unnatural calm flooded the area, and even the nurses took a moment to breathe easier, move slower, and refocus. The child's cries lightened a little into gentler sobs that rebounded along the walls. Lucien's golden eyes fixated forward, not on the nurses or the mother, but on the child. One of the nurses looked up right in time to see the glow of his power, and a chill went through her very briefly. Lucien took in a strange breath before brushing passed her, raising a hand over the gauzed wound, and focusing as much as he could. Calm… stay calm…. Stay calm and stay focused… A glow of green flooded over his hand down onto the wound. It'll be alright. It will be alright… The child was easing even more now, settling with a small couple of choked noises.
The doctor was running in now, elbowing several out of the way. As he came, Lucien stepped back into the corner with the child's mother. "How's the bleeding?" "It's slowed but still progressing." "Alright, we're going to have to check how far it is before anything." "Right." It was the doctor's and nurse's turn to take care of things, but Lucien stayed in the corner, his eyes aglow with the power of his aura. The room remained calm, forcefully slow. Ten minutes passed, and finally the child was stable again, calm, soothed. He needed a blood transfusion, but they had the care and management for that at least. Everything was fine now.
Thirty minutes passed, and finally a nurse came over to Lucien. Her hand touched his face, and he came back to the world once again. Blinking several times, he was suddenly aware of just how exhausted he was. A small, frustrated, tired noise, escaped from him. "Thank you, Luci, you can relax now." He nodded and would follow her out into the nurse's station where he sat down finally and set his face in his hands. Ugh that level of focus was painful now. He rubbed his face a couple of times and mumbled some words to himself over and over.
As a hand touched his shoulder again, he looked up to find the rather uncomfortable doctor standing over him. "I would like to have word with you." Lucien nodded a bit, and the conversation that transpired was one of intrigue and uncertainty. The doctor had found that the deepest part of the wound had already started to close by the time he was there, that everything looked like a much shallower wound than it probably should have from the amount of bleeding that had been incurred. Lucien explained again how aura worked, and the man finally admitted to believing it. Lucien grinned weakly. Good.

The next couple of weeks were strange for Lucien. It was as if overnight, he had gained the full respect of every staff member, and while he understood just why that was, it was hard to cope with.
Some of the nurses that had been otherwise teasing him now and again, seemed a little stiffer, their aura more reserved. They were careful to not say anything too condescending, and while some part of him appreciated it, another part worried that he was… losing something with that.
The medical residents including a trainee surgeon he had become friends with, were now quicker to use his surname rather than his given one when addressing him. Even after explaining that “Mr. Benoit” was his father and he’d prefer Lucien, they kept using it time and time again. It would be a couple weeks into this that it clicked that this was also how they addressed one another. As peers. As individuals. As equals.
It was only the chief surgeon, the one who had actually pulled him aside during the incident, that still treated him roughly the same. They did, however, become a little closer because of this fact. Lucien felt he could be more open, more honest, more straightforward, and the chief brushed him off as he pleased or took his words as he pleased. It was… honestly nicer than Lucien knew what to do with at that point.
In all of this, Lucien found his responsibilities were starting to increase as well. In almost every case of a hysterical patient, he was asked to come calm them, and each time, he would slowly find he could also heal them. Deep wounds couldn’t always be healed, but smaller ones were not hard to mess clean up. He became something of the go-to for child patients and the elderly that came in who couldn’t afford to be bandaged or stitched up very well, and …. It was very rewarding, honestly.
His reports to Viola were always positive, and she was very proud of him to say the least. It wasn’t until email in particular that he had to stop and realize that… he…was good at this, really truly good. If he continued his education, became a formal doctor or nurse, he could really make an impact. It… was a strange concept, and he wanted to brush it off immediately considering all the other work he had as a breeder, but…. It never did quite leave the back of his mind. He could do a lot with this, a hell of a lot. He really, really could.
And then it happened. A telephone call full of worry, and suddenly the staff were on high alert. They were a small clinic, an urgent care clinic, not quite a fully functioning hospital, but another hospital in their area had overflowed. They had to transport the most stable patients to this clinic. There was no other choice. The staff was already stressed when the first patient was rolled in, an unconscious girl with a deep gash wound on her side. Lucien had stepped towards her only to be told to wait as a young man came in right after. He was conscious, and the terror in his eyes was evident. “That one,” was all the hospital staff stated aloud, and Lucien understood. Following after the bed, he stepped into the room, adjusting his scrubs, pulling over a face mask, washing his hands, and getting ready to go.
He’d be positioned at the head of the patient, the young man’s eyes flashing up to him in distress from all of this. Lucien smiled weakly only to remember the surgical mask covered it. “You’re going to be fine,” he murmured before drawing up his power and closing his eyes. A green hue began to make the elastic of his gloves glow in turn. The patient, a teenager much like himself, seemed to take in a slow, shaky breath in response. Stay calm… stay calm… stay calm… He could do that. Even in the most stressful of situations, he could do this. It was all impersonal, really. he could succeed at this. It was good. He was good. He just needed to focus a little more.
The surgery would go on for some time. Even with Lucien inadvertently sealing some of the minor wounds and starting to heal the major ones with his calming vibrations, it was still a tough go. The surgeon and his group, however, would also begin to feel the calming vibrations of Lucien’s effects. Maybe not to the same extent as the patient, but they felt them none the less. They worked calmly, focused on what they needed to do at all costs. It ran smooth, fluidly, and in ways that could only have happened with such a mindset. Lucien would never fully know exactly what he was doing to them at the time, as his focus remained on the patient.
Through all of this, however, Lucien was starting to tire. He could feel the aura leaving him as exhaustion threatened, and as much as he tried to stay focused, his mind was starting to wane. Perhaps the others could feel it to as someone stepped in and had him sit down for a bit to recoup. He’d stay for an hour before slowly forcing himself up to try again. They were worried, but he promised he was ok. He just… wanted to work as best he could. He did it, though, truly and fluidly, he did it. He kept focus, kept working, kept doing what he could. He pushed himself but would only grow from it, not break. He took breaks now and again, but with each, he’d push himself a little more, grow a little more. He could do this. He could do this!
