The afternoon sun beat down on the port as a tall, lean figure stepped off of a freshly harbored ship, thankful that his feet had finally touched solid ground again. Icy blue eyes surveyed the city-scape through dark shades that covered the scar over his left eye, but the edge of the three slash-esque marks still peeked out from the top and bottom of the shades. Red hair was parted down the middle, just hugging his stubble-covered jaw as the man just stopped, taking a breath of fresh air as he took in his new surroundings.
His new....home, be that as it may.
His hands were tucked into the pockets of his black jacket, fingers of his right hand curling tightly around a bit of cash he'd managed to swipe while on the ship. He wasn't a fan of crowds, usually, but he had to admit, he wouldn't be doing near as well without them.
Brushing his red hair from his eyes, he enjoyed the nice breeze that was starting to pick up, and he made his way to the city; a bar would be right up his alley right now. On the way, he accidentally brushed a bystander.
"Oh, excuse me," he said politely, discretely pocketing a bit of loose cash from their pockets. From there, his eyes lingered on the street ahead, finally locking on what seemed to be a decent bar.

What time was it? Still afternoon? Mm, Kai had assumed he would be working late today staking out a reported operation, but instead some dumbass gave the whole group away before lunch, and the whole thing had wrapped up pretty quickly. Kai didn't even know how to feel about that, honestly. Being stuck behind a desk most of the time drove him crazy, but it was good getting criminals off the street, and he supposed it looked good for his reputation if he cases he was personally involved in always went half so well, heh..
Unlike his other reputation, which uh. He wanted to think he'd done a pretty good job keeping most people from realizing how much a problem he really had, but Nalani was probably to 'thank' for more of that than any innate discretion on Kai's part. If his coworkers saw him drinking a lot, oh fucking well, as long as he got the job done. But Keone's disappointment and Nalani's unrelenting glare were enough to help motivate him... usually.
Tonight though? Tonight the kids expected him to be in Caravella all night anyway, and the odds of anyone even recognizing him here let alone somehow spreading word that'd reach the kids sounded extremely low. His head had been killing him for nearly two days, and a drink or ten sounded like just the fix.
The way he vaguely stumbled when he got inside (a by-product of his brain-fog and the change in lighting), some folks might not believe he was sober at the moment, let alone that he was a high-ranking official of Interpol. His scruffy hair, slightly unkempt beard, and clothes very much meant more for comfort than fashion would probably lean closer to "homeless man" than "officer", but that was fine by him, honestly.
He'd taken no particular note of other patrons yet, focusing first on just getting a decent drink in his hands.

It was almost amusing how quickly Ty was able to find a bar; it was almost like his superpower these days. As he casually strolled inside, he removed his sunglasses to reveal his scarred face, and smirked as he realized the bar wasn't empty. Good, he wasn't the only one day-drinking today; not that he had to have company, it just made him feel better about himself if other people were doing the same as he.
The young redhead knew he probably looked a mess. His hair was unkempt, he had a bit of stubble, and he was dressed from head to toe in black, even down to the tee shirt revealed by his open jacket. Once inside, his eyes adjusted to the dimmer lighting and strolled up to the bar, sitting down next to an equally as homeless looking man; the difference being that technically, the scarred redhead was momentarily without an actual home.
But he'd worry about where to lay his head later. He'd briefly glanced over at the other man before ordering his drink, but for now he stayed silent. It was best to get that all-important first drink down before bothering with small talk. Or better yet, not bothering at all, but he was aware that he looked suspicious, and as such needed to quell that as soon as he could manage. Maybe. Who cared, really?
Finally, a drink was set before the thief, and his fingers curled around the bottle, lifting it to his lips and taking in the cool, refreshing taste. That definitely hit the spot...

Kai was just starting to take his first sip when a young man pulled up a seat nearby. It would have been easy enough to ignore him, but he'd made eye contact for a brief moment, and that plus those scars held Kai's attention just enough to at least consider whether he wanted to bother with conversation.
He took a brief look around. Aside from the bartender, there was a woman at the far end of the bar who looked to be settling her tab and preparing to head out, another young man tucked away in a corner who honestly looked like he might live here, a woman with an interesting Lopunny nursing a drink in a booth alone, and... eugh gross, a couple making out in another corner. Not exactly a lot of options, and among them the kid who got here almost the same time he did seemed the best bet for talking.
Eh, why not. Business would pick up later, but Kai would either be gone or a mess by then, and some conversation might kill time a little faster.
Kai downed the rest of his shot, then ordered a bottle of rum to nurse a little slower. In the meantime, he considered how to start conversation with this stranger in all black. You come from a funeral? came one snarky thought, but a more reasonable You'd feel like an asshole if he did stopped him from saying it aloud.
"You always drink at 4pm?" ..... That was probably not actually better, especially given he was taking a pretty wide guess at the time, but oh fucking well, he'd long since resigned himself to the fact his mouth just Did This sometimes.

Ty was more of a slow, steady drinker who liked to slowly lose himself in the bottle as opposed to drowning his problems immediately. Not that problems stayed drowned, as Ty was learning the hard way. His dad was still dead, she was still gone, and people were still as a whole, assholes. Nothing changed, but the sting of alcohol made him feel better about it, at least.
Looking over at the older gentleman next to him, he wondered briefly if he was catching an odd glimpse into his own future. It made sense, though he really didn't know how he felt about that. But if that was what was to become of him--if he lived that long--then, so be it. There were worse things to become, after all, right?
He blinked as a voice interrupted his chain of thought, and he looked back over to the older man. "Not usually, but it's barely even lunch o'clock," the red-head said with a dry laugh. "Really though, I drink when I want one," he added with a smirk as he took a slow swig from his bottle.

Heh... Well at least the kid took it well, in spite of the obvious hypocrisy. Kai supposed he could relate, too... which was really depressing once he thought about it, welp. "That's a terrible habit to get into," he muttered, trailing off into a sound that seemed part scoff, part tired laugh. "Keep it up and you might even get lectured by a fifteen-year-old." His bitter tone held an air of self-deprecating amusement, it seemed.
He sipped slowly as he debated whether to prompt more information, but in the end decided to wait and see if the kid would offer anything on his own.

Ty gave a dry chuckle at the older man's advice. "You wanna be the pot, or the kettle?" he said with a slight chuckle as he put his bottle back to his lips and took a swig. His voice sounded equally as tired, but he wasn't exactly rude about it, just...matter-of-factly. His sarcasm was apparent, but it wasn't quite rude.
"Though luckily for me, I don't know any fifteen year olds," he said with a slight shrug, looking at his circumstantial drinking buddy. "Actually, considering I only recently stepped off of the boat, I'd venture it safe to say I don't know anyone right now." Instinctively he turned and gave the bar another glance-around, not that anything would change much. Not many people drank this early in the day after all, but that was fine by the roguish redhead.
That meant there was more room for him, after all.

A guttural snort emitted from Kai at that little quip. Yeah. Yeah he fuckin' knew. And that was literally why he could cast judgment, a 'don't be me kid' rather than something preachy. But that delivery was too good not to appreciate.
No fifteen year olds, huh? Kai was caught between 'do you want me to introduce you', 'any teen will do', and 'you lucky bastard' (playfully, of course; he certainly wouldn't trade her), but before he could decide the kid dropped a rather more interesting conversation hook. Kai's brows raised a bit. "Ah yeah? Where ya from? And moving or touring?" He took another quick drink, then went on, "I moved from Kanto late last year myself."

Ty had to admit, the older guy didn't seem to be half bad. Granted he could appreciate someone who seemed disgruntled enough to be drinking at noon. He looked into his drink as he exhaled a long thoughtful breath.
"I'm from Era, originally," he said as he took a sip, not wanting to delve too much into his past, but he figured some sort of exposition was necessary. "Left maybe a year ago after shit really hit the fan because of the war; spent some time just wandering the world. Literally just stepped off of the ship, honestly. Figure this would be as good a place as any to settle down and start fresh. Maybe actually make a name for myself."
He gave a light snort as he thought on that; what the other guy didn't know what that the only name Ty would likely have a chance to make for himself would be more dubious than not.

Kai's brows raised a bit when the young man said he was from Era. He had a lot of questions running through his mind. What things were like recently from a firsthand perspective, which side this kid had been on or if he'd just been a bystander caught up in everything, if he'd seen combat or been a civilian. He knew all that was too prying, though.
"Small world. Got a few friends from out there," he said simply instead. Just enough to say he was semi-familiar with it, but hopefully not enough to get questions about said friends, either. Particularly given Dasha may still have a price on her head. And Alex had probably made a few enemies on both sides given they'd switched partway through.
"Spent about a decade in the Kanto military, too, so." A corner of his mouth tugged a moment in a sort of sympathetic grimace. "Can't quite relate to having it in your backyard, and I definitely get it if you'd rather not talk about it. But I won't be scared off if you need to get any war stories off your chest, either." He hoped it was clear he wasn't trying to encourage that in particular, of course. It was more like... "Check your bags at the region gate I guess, heh."

"Sometimes I feel like it's too small," he murmured into his drink as he took another sip, looking down at the bar for a moment as he listened to the man speak about Kanto. Then, he looked up, exhaling a thoughtful breath.
"Yeah, I wasn't really involved in the war itself, but I decided to hang back, see what I could do for those other innocent folk caught in the crossfire. My then girlfriend had left long before then; she wasn't too keen on staying, but I'd thought I was doing the right thing. Helping people find themselves, protecting others from the inevitable bullshit that came up..." He exhaled deeply, taking a rather generous swig at that one.
"One day, I realized my efforts really weren't doing much of anything, and the region was going to hell fast. I protected a kid from some thugs, got this from a Persian," he motioned the scar on his eyes. "I gave the kid my Zangoose to protect himself, and then I got on the next boat the hell out of there."
He'd conveniently left out the part about his father's execution, but that was a story for another day. "So, I figure here's as good--and as far--a place as I can find to start fresh. Make a new name for myself and just...I don't know. See what the hell happens, right?"

Kai listened attentively, and nodded once as the young man pointed out his scars. If a Persian did that, he was lucky he could still see-- assuming he could. Kai didn't noticed any signs of blinding, but supposed not all blind eyes were as obvious as others.
"Mmhm. Certainly nothing wrong with that, especially since you never signed up to be a soldier. Everyone still fighting is doing so in hopes that people like you will get a fresh start, I imagine." He vaguely wished that story involved Ty bringing the kid he saved, but imagined said kid had parents and all that jazz, heh.
"I had to change professions after.." He tugged back one corner of his mouth for just a fleeting moment, then turned a bit on his barstool. "They say 'cool guys don't look at explosions', but I can tell you cool guys also don't think they can stop them on their own." He laughed bitterly, tugging a pant leg up just enough to show the prosthetic sticking out of his shoe. "Luckily still have even most of my shin, but. My kids were not keen on me going back once I stopped coming home in one piece," he slightly joked.

Ty did have sight in both of his eyes, miraculously; and he knew how lucky he was to still have the eye, much less be able to see out of it. Granted, any Pokemon that could leave a mark like the one Ty wore wasn't anything to sneeze at.
"I know. Sometimes I can't help but wonder though..." He took another swig of his drink. It was almost gone, and he was starting to feel its effects a little. Sure, the lad could hold his alcohol, usually, but he'd gotten stronger than his usual, and he wasn't exactly taking it easy. "If it didn't do much good anyway, maybe I should have left when she did. No idea where the hell we'd be, but it's bound to be better than downing booze in a bar in the heat of the--" he paused, shaking his head as he just cut that sentence short--for a number of reasons. The main one being, he wasn't the only one at the bar drinking this early.
"I don't really have a profession," he murmured as he looked down at the guy's prosthetic leg, listening him talk about cool guys and explosions. Honestly, he didn't seem like a bad dude. "Yeah, I guess that is true," he said with a snort as he waved the bartender over for another drink as he downed the rest of his first one.
"Though, I guess the next thing I need to do is figure out where the hell I go from here. I mean as much as I wish I could...my new life probably won't be found in here." Ty smirked a little at his own joke.

Mmm... Regrets about a relationship, huh? It took all of Kai's self control to resist at least a small comment, less but still some control to resist unloading fully about his own issues there. He wasn't nearly drunk enough for that this early, ha. Unfortunately.
Kai smirked a bit in turn at the joke. "No?" he asked. "Charming guy like you? You sure your destiny ain't findin' a sugar momma in a joint like this?" A single sniff of a snicker followed. "Or sugar daddy depending on your taste. No that wasn't an offer." The clarification came in a rather flatter tone and slightly faster than the rest, but not flat enough to wipe out the playful expression and not fast enough to feel like covering his ass, more just a genuine disclaimer. "I hear Ultimate Drunken Karaoke Champion is still up for grabs, too. Though I may have a friend who'd give you a hard time winning that." He chuckled lightly.

Normally Ty wasn't the type for bar-stool therapy, but he had to admit it was oddly refreshing to just be able to unload without any consequence, though again the booze was more than likely helping in this. He'd kept everything bottled up for years, and for some reason he choose right now to just let it fly.
He wasn't sure how sincere it was, but Ty hadn't been called charming in quite some time. "Heh. While tempting, my taste is a little more...complicated than that. And offer or not, I don't intend to take you up on it," he said with a shrug as he knocked back the last little bit of his drink. "Even in my naive stage, I wouldn't have been caught dead in Karaoke, drunk or otherwise," he murmured with a shrug as he waived for another drink. "Drunken bar fights, though? Been there. Waking up to my Arcanine standing over my unconscious ass? ....More than I'd care to admit." He gave a slight smirk.
There was still a lot Ty hadn't mentioned about himself, like what he did for a living. Or his name. But part of him felt...not better, but it was a start. "Name's Ty, by the way."
