It was a crazy idea; Muse knew it was a crazy idea, but the good thing about being so far from her family and not having any real friends to speak of, was that there was no one to talk her out of it Not that she'd have listened. Or that not having anyone to talk her out of it was a good thing.
The red-haired ice trainer had made her way to Old Pahala, but why? To explore, to search for treasure? Nope. For some reason, she felt like this would be the perfect place to get to know her newest addition to the team. Speaking of which, The Shellder followed right beside Muse as she made her way through the shallower part of what was left of the old city, a bottle-cap on a ribbon tied to his shell. The Pokemon wasn't as focused on the road ahead as his trainer; there were so many shiny things and pretty things to look at!
She smiled, looking back at the Pokemon; he was quite relaxed, and easily amused, and that she found adorable. Her outfit for the day was a far cry from what it usually was. Instead of her dressy, woman of authority outfits, she was wearing a pair of short shorts--the only pair she owned, as a matter of fact--a low cut tee shirt, and a pair of boots, just for the occasion. As usual, her red hair was kept in a high ponytail.
Besides, it's not like anyone would recognize her out here, right?

Strands of spider silk hug, glistening, from the ruins of Old Pahala.
They weren't a web. Oh no, they were most certainly not. This would be a sub-par hunting ground, really, with structures far too unstable and everything far too waterlogged. They were simply a transportation method, to get the many-legged thread-spinner from an elevated point A to another elevated point B. And there were many point As and point Bs, because there were a great variety of things Willow would do before she would let herself wade through water.
Faith had fewer qualms than her ariados, mostly because she had good, sturdy boots made with water in mind, as well as a pair of shorts. The deep blue colour of them matched her tank top, visible due to the black coat she was wearing being left open; the coat, both lightweight and water-resistant, was mostly there to protect her arms, paired with tough gloves there to do much the same to her hands. She wasn't here to go squeezing through tight passageways (though she was certainly small and slim enough to try) and digging through rubble for treasure, but a little something to ensure that she didn't end up accumulating scrapes and cuts from her surroundings had seemed like a good idea all the same.
But, you may ask, if she wasn't here looking for treasure, what was she here for? Well, she supposed that simple curiosity was high on the list. She hadn't been in Veria long, and wanted to know what all the fuss was about regarding this particular location. Not to mention, she was a novice Gym Leader and there was something to be said about being able to say that she'd braved the location and come out just fine...Plus, she figured there was a chance that she'd come across some idiot thrill-seeker who needed a little help getting out of trouble, which was also a very Leader-y thing to do and something that may help her build a reputation of the positive variety.
For now, Faith was walking through one of the shallower areas, not too far in, with a none-too-amused scizor at her right. Scarlet was hovering slightly to avoid contact with the water, her bright red metal carapace standing out starkly from the more muted colours of the ruins. While she stuck close, Willow had instead wandered off, as she tended to, but Faith didn't worry much, since the dark spider always made sure to stay within shouting range. The area looked to be mostly devoid of life, as well, so she felt that it was unlikely that Willow would find much trouble to get herself in.
Faith was very much unaware that she was in a position of soon needing to eat those words. Willow was currently resting at the top of a structure that had likely been some kind of business, now overgrown with plants and unrecognizable, and watching a lovely red-haired woman entering the district with a tiny little shelled morsel alongside her. Oh, if only the tasty little thing weren't with a human; she rarely indulged in seafood, and it would have really hit the spot right about now. There was a time when she wouldn't have cared and just gone for the meal anyway, but her time with Faith had adjusted her code of behaviour somewhat, mostly because Faith had gotten it through her head that eating pets was only one step below attacking people on the Serious Consequences Ahead scale.
Willow wasn't really hiding herself, and would be easy to spot if either the human or shellder caught sight of the spider silk and then looked far enough up, since even if her black body didn't stand out against her surroundings much, the gleaming white of her mandibles and horn, as well as the purple of her eyes, certainly stood out against said body. In fact, if noticed, she'd lift a front leg and wave in a friendly manner that betrayed none of her hunger-driven thoughts.

Muse found a dry patch, her glass-covered eyes glancing over the landscape, then looking back to the Shellder. "You ready for a little practice, Spike?" she said, small smirk on her face as she thought. But she noticed, the Shellder wasn't paying very much attention to her; he'd found something worthy of his attention, though given the bottlecap he'd grown so fond of, grabbing Spike's attention didn't seem to be that difficult of a task.
So, she followed his gaze, and saw the Ariados, watching from its vantage point. As black as night. That was...odd. Though it probably wasn't a wild Pokemon. At least, given the landscape, and the coloring of the spider, it was probably somebody's. "Spike. Snap out of it, love. We've got work to do. Let's see you go for a swim," she said, nudging him with her foot and he got defensive, almost snapping at her, but realizing where he was.
Making his way off to the water, he began swimming, picking up speed and showing off his aquatic prowess. "Alright, now show me a Razor Shell," she ordered, and the Shellder lept out of the water, striking the air with his shell and plopping back into the water, his eyes lingering back toward the Ariados.
"Good one, Spike. But focus. In the heat of battle, you can't be distracted by something shiny. Stay on guard." Pulling a ball off of her belt, she let Grim out of his Pokeball, and she instructed the Sneasel to watch the Ariados.
"Grim's keeping an eye on that for us. You focus on your swimming. Okay?" The Shellder reluctantly tore its gaze away and dove back under the water, soon splashing out of the water and landing right next to her, causing the ice trainer to giggle. "Not bad..."

With Faith, it was very easy to still be within shouting distance and not be within empathy distance, and in a place like this, not open enough for even the full potential of Faith's smaller-than-average range to be properly utilized, Willow knew that there was a slim chance that she, or the current objects of her interest, could be sensed right now. Which was good, because dear Faith might have tried to stop her.
Or dear Faith would have just laughed. It was a little hard to tell, sometimes. Her trainer was trying to get a rein on that cruel streak of hers, and the reason why she would ever want to do such a thing eluded Willow.
Not that Willow did much at first, simply allowing herself and her silk to be admired. The morsel had good taste, at the very least, even if the woman kept trying to distract him. Then a new morsel joined the group, and Willow's mandibles opened widely in the closest a creature with her anatomy could get to grinning. Not that sneasel were that appetizing, being all fur, feathers, bones, and sharp points, but she seemed to have the would-be guard's full attention, and that pleased her. It also gave her an idea of the wonderfully awful sort.
Willow anchored herself to the structure, and then lowered herself down its side by one of her threads with a leisurely pace. She stopped short of the water and dangled there, swinging left and right like a pendulum at roughly the sneasel's eye level. It wasn't the most alluring of poses she could be striking, truthfully, but she still gave her watcher her best sultry stare as she poured on all of the arachnid charm she could muster, beckoning with a front leg to try to lure him in closer.
Faith would someday regret allowing Willow to learn Attract. She may have already, if it hadn't saved their collective bacon in battle more than once.

The Sneasel kept his eyes on the black spider-Pokemon, arms folded intently across his chest as his eyes narrowed. The dark-type Pokemon held his ground even as the spider dropped and started swaying. He was going to protect his trainer and her new Pokeon no matter what. He'd followed Muse all the way to Veria from her childhood home, and he'd continue to stay by her side until....hey...that spider was honestly...kind of majestic...intoxicating, even... His muscles relaxed, though he never took his eyes off of the other pokemon. Now, however, he was merely infatuated with her...
Muse, meanwhile waded across, finding the water up to her hips as she found another dry spot to climb up to as Spike continued his swim. He was actually quite agile and focused when there wasn't anything to look at. Part of her wondered how tedious--and expensive--it would be to incorporate a changing landscape to the gym's arena, so the terrain would vary by round. Spike could make good use of a pool, once he evolved, of course. Her eyes darted back for just a second, and saw the spider had Grim in some sort of...trance. Great...
She called Solace out of her Pokeball, and the Abomasnow stood right by her side, waiting for a command. Besides, she knew full well Grim could handle himself. Meanwhile, Muse looked around for any sign of a trainer. If that Ariados didn't have one, she'd catch it. No use for it at the gym, but she was sure someone would be willing to trade for it.

Willow's mandibles opened in that grin-like way again as her new thrall's stare softened. Now, if she could just get him to follow her deeper into the ruins before his human took notice--
Too late. Willow's swaying took on a much more agitated quality as the abomasnow appeared, and she made a high-pitched, keening noise of frustration. Not that she feared a grass type, even a large one, but such creatures were wholly unappetizing, and this one didn't look like thrall material, either. This was just ruining her entertainment, and that was unacceptable.
The smart thing would've been to shimmy back up her thread, and skitter off to find Faith again. But let it never be said that Willow was one to do the smart thing when she felt slighted. As a brief search was made by the woman for her trainer, who sadly remained out of view, Willow stopped her swaying from side to side and rocked herself backward, instead, to touch her four main, walking limbs to the wall of the building, and stick to it in the way spiders tended to.
Willow focused on the sneasel, wiggled her abdomen not unlike a cat poised to pounce, and then did, indeed pounce, lunging right for him with all the force her walking-legs could muster. Which wasn't much, since ariados weren't exactly the jumping sorts of spiders, but she was counting on him not wanting to avoid her embrace.
The plan was to grab him, and then pull herself back up the silk with maximum haste. He'd make a useful living shield against any assault from his allies, and, oh, how she'd relish the panic of said allies...

Muse was now able to focus on Spike and his training, turning her back on the Spider. Solace could handle herself and Muse was sure they were all in good hands. The secret novelist noted that Spike was showing really promising potential, and would definitely make life hell for any aspiring challengers once she got the gym up and running.
Solace watched the spider as Grim was still utterly infatuated with the black Ariados, swaying hypnotically. Grim was almost ready to wrap his arms around the overgrown bug, but as she pounced, the Sneasel's giant Grass-typed guardian reacted, sending a Razor Leaf Willow's way. But the flurry of leaves wasn't aimed for the spider herself, no. The attack, while a couple may have hit the Ariados, was directed for her line of silk from which she was suspended. Cutting the line, they'd see how much of an acrobat the spider really was.
Meanwhile, one would notice it got mildly chilly. One thing that Muse didn't really account for because she was so used to it, was Solace's little side effect. When she entered battle, it would start hailing. So that would make things interesting.

Ker-splash!
How much of an acrobat was Willow? Not much of one, as the sneasel found out when her pounce, her momentum freed from the restraint of the anchoring silk, turned into more of a belly flop. What time her thrall had to enjoy such closeness with her would be short-lived, however, as she went about picking herself up with bout of ungraceful skitter-splashes of flailing spider legs. Though, who knew, maybe the fact that he'd been belly-flopped into water meant that he'd feel relief at the removal of her bulk even through the spell she had on him.
Unfortunately for Willow, she was not the water-walking sort of spider any more than she was the jumping sort, which meant she had to suffer the indignity of all of this moisture, and so someone, clearly, needed to pay. And, as it so happened, the source of her woe was right here for her to take her wrath out on. She shrieked in fury at the hulking abomasnow, the non-walking limbs attached to her abdomen flailing about in further expression of her rage.
The display, however, was not the tantrum in appeared to be--well, okay, maybe it was, a little bit--but a distraction, from the dark shape that shifted beneath the water before darting toward the abomasnow, only fully visible when it rose up behind its quarry to strike. Good old reliable Shadow Sneak.

The Ice trainer heard the splash, and turned quickly to see that Solace had hit her mark, and a smirk crossed Muse's lips. That was actually quite funny, but she knew Grim would be fine. Maybe the cold bath there would even help a little.
Grim made his way to his feet, still infatuated by the spider--especially after he broke her fall. Still goo-goo eyed, he watched Willow's every move. Solace was watching as well, as the spider threw a tantrum, and then hit her from behind with a Shadow Sneak that caught her off guard, but at the same time did a good job of pissing the Abomasnow off even more. But she shook her head, calming her nerves. The giant bodyguard Pokemon did not necessarily attack; no. She merely....started whistling. A soothing, lullaby type melody. Maybe now Muse would appreciate Grass Whistle.
Meanwhile, the hail in the immediate area was picking up, and Muse was regretting using Solace, as there was no place to shelter herself from being pelted by tiny chunks of ice. At least Spike had dove into a deep section of the water, but the rest of them were sitting ducks.Except her lucky as hell Pokemon, that is.

Willow was completely ignoring her infatuated thrall at this point, wrapped up in her thoughts of revenge. The first strike had gone off without a hitch, so now it was time for a follow up, maybe something involving venom...
...But that music was making it hard to concentrate. So were the hailstones, but for the opposite reason. In fact, the two were acting against each other, the melody hazing over her thoughts and the tiny impacts making for sharp little wake-up calls every time she got close to succumbing. Still, it started to look like the song would win out as Willow swayed from side to side.
"Willow what in the actual fuck!?"
Well, she was sure awake now. Looked like the party was over.
Faith was hovering a few inches above the surface of the water, having raced around the corner of one of the ruined building with the kind of speed she only would have managed in this place with telekinetic help. The fact that her head was ducked down slightly in an attempt to protect her skull from the hailstones she was being pelted with did nothing to diminish the murderous glare her glowing eyes were giving her wayward spider; in fact, each icy impact just made her face twist into a more intense scowl. Scarlet, also hovering, had her arms crossed in front of her thorax, her flat expression not shifting in the slightest as the hail bounced off of her metallic exoskeleton.
Willow had the decency to shrink down a little when she met her trainer's gaze, though it was mostly an act. The wince she gave when Faith let out the furious demand of, "Get over here," was more genuine, if for not the reasons that Faith would have preferred. She obeyed, skitter-splashing her way over to the floating woman and noting every bit of extra depth in the water with revulsion.
"Can't leave you alone for two fuckin'--Hey!" Faith jerked her gaze over to red-haired woman as she cut off her own sentence, acknowledging the presence of anyone other than her ariados for the first time. "Call off the ice machine, wouldja?" she barked, the concept of any sort of social niceties having left her entirely for the moment.

Shaking her head, Muse continued to attempt to train the Shellder, whom, after coming to surface, realized he wasn't affected by the hailstorm in the slightest, so that was cool. Looking back as she heard Solace's all too familiar song, she merely confirmed what the music meant;: the problem with the black spider was pretty much solved now, so she could focus more on Spike. After all, it'd be much more beneficial if the little guy were battle ready before she evolved him.
Suddenly, a sharp voice cut through the air like a knife through warm butter and Muse turned to see a rather petite woman hovering over the water. Okay, that was really interesting; she'd heard of people with certain abilities, but she never really had the pleasure to meet one, and this one was kind of cute. And feisty.
When the woman addressed Muse and her 'ice machine,' Muse merely shrugged, taking a pokeball off of her belt and calling back the Abomasnow. "Well, if my training hadn't been interrupted by a certain spider, I wouldn't have needed the 'Ice Machine,' would I?" she asked, her voice only dripping with a slight amount of poison.
"I have to admit though," she said, changing her tone to a more appreciative one as she looked at Willow. "The black is a very striking color, especially on an Ariados." As she spoke, the hail gradually began to subside.

Faith's lip curled in a silent snarl at the venomous reply, but before she could come up with a reply that had a bit more substance to it than a simple "fuck off"--that would normally suffice, but something about having taken on her new position made her want to put a little more effort into cussing people out--the shift in tone caught her off-guard and she found herself glancing between the other woman and Willow as her mouth shifted into a more mild frown. The compliment was ultimately met with a scoff and roll of the eyes. "Don't say shit like that. Her ego's big enough already."
Faith took the opportunity to recall her soggy ariados and, suddenly in the mood to show off, she did so by levitating the pokeball, activating it, and then putting it back without ever once touching it with her hand; much like with the abomasnow, Willow's effect on the area, or rather a certain sneasel, would likely start reversing itself with her absence. Then, glancing at the red-haired woman again with a small quirk of the brow, Faith decided that, while she could take off again--and with the hail not completely gone yet, it was sure tempting--she was...curious, about this lady. She wasn't sure if the curiosity was truly her own, but she going to indulge it anyway.
Faith glided closer, finding a bit of debris peeking out of the water to land on. She lowered herself down gently, and stood on her perch with her legs together and back straight, balanced on the balls of her feet in a subconscious attempt to look that tiny bit taller. The glow left her eyes, revealing their natural brown hue, as she asked with her usual bluntness, "Why would you train here?" A dry tone crept in as she couldn't help but add, "You do know this place is a death trap, right?"
She looked older than the idiots Faith was expecting to have to rescue out here, but, at a glance, looked no less prepared than they would be. At more than a glance...Faith's eyes slid downward without conscious direction, Might have poor judgement, but she's got nice legs. Eyes slid back up, not enough to reach the face again. But not as nice as her-- And suddenly Faith was staring very hard at a nearby building, silently cursing anything and everything she could think to blame for the previous thoughts.
Scarlet, who had followed her trainer and was now floating behind her like some big, metal bodyguard, recognized this old familiar song and dance and gave a slight tilt of her head that was as close to rolling her eyes as she ever got. Faith got so weird around potential mates and it was downright embarrassing.

Muse gave a smile at the woman's response to her compliment. Most people would have taken offense to the woman's attitude, but given what she saw of the spider-Pokemon...Muse could understand. She couldn't imagine having to put up with that every day. Muse's eyes flickered with interest behind her glasses as the ball levitated, her smirk widening to indicate her intrigue. Within moments, the hail would subside as the Sneasel snapped out of his trance, and she recalled Grim while she was at it. She could call any given Pokemon back out if need be.
About that moment, the Shellder surfaced beside her, and she looked down at it before she turned to look back at her new acquaintance. "That's what makes it the perfect place to train. First, there's not many who'd bother you. And second...well, a tough training situation brings out the best of you and your team."
She let her eyes wander over the woman's figure, since she caught her doing the same. Not bad at all...
"Muse Herrera," she said with a smile as she extended her hand. "Leader of Aleal's new Ice Gym," she said, not really attempting the professional tone, but the words were what mattered. After all, there was a certain sense of authority and capability that came with the title.
