On the one hand, Alek was glad to be home. On the other, part of him never wanted to leave again. The lad had gotten his first major contest under his belt, and while it was nice to have exposure, and to finally be getting his foot in the door, the results had honestly left a bad taste in his mouth. In the Appeals category, he'd gotten third, which wasn't that bad, honestly. In fact, he was quite pleased with that.
But he'd totally blown it in the Battle and Performance rounds. Sure, he'd gotten third in the first round, but he didn't place in the other two, and he ended up dead last overall. But he didn't give up. He couldn't. Damn it, he was going to do this, it just meant he had a lot of training to do. And that's why he found himself in a small clearing. There weren't a lot of people around this part, so it was the perfect area to train.
Wiping his sweat from his brow, he took another breath as he tried to focus. Duchess and Athena were out of their Pokeballs, facing each other and awaiting Alek's orders as the trainer tapped his foot, keeping time to himself.
"Alright, let's try again. Sway, move together..." he instructed as the Shiny Ampharos and the Blue Combusken moved in rhythm, circling each other in unity. "Step, two, three, together..." he counted off. "Alright, now Duchess, Fire Punch, and Athena, Mirror Move!" The plan was that they both use Fire Punch in perfect time, the two punches meeting in a spectacular light show.
But that wasn't what happened. One of them missed a step or something, and in the blink of an eye, there was a mass of pink Ampharos and blue Combusken tangled together on the ground. Alek sighed as the two Pokemon pulled themselves up to their feet. And promptly stared each other down with gazes that could have melted ice.
"Easy...we'll try again later..." Alek said, quickly recalling both Pokemon as he slumped to a sitting position on the ground, head resting on his knees.
"Maybe I wasn't cut out for this after all..."
