An age-long tradition, the Spring Festival celebrates the commencement of the Lunar New Year, and fills the Veria region with bountifulness and energy. Originally a small tradition celebrated in a quiet little party, the spirit and meaning of the Spring Festival grew, eventually becoming a region-wide event, switching cities every year as the festival moves along, leaving behind excitement for the coming year, as the citizens hope that their city will be picked that year. Few remember how the tradition was starter, but now, it is a grand procession, filled with parades, Pokemon battles, rewards, decorations, fireworks, and most importantly, the Spring Festival Contest.
The colors of the festival are red and gold, considered lucky colors by the tradition of the Lunar New Year, and many people were elegant, traditional dresses as they go out into the streets, draped in those colors. The very buildings and scenery is chuck-full of red and gold decorations, all inscribed with various blessings, wishes for fortune, longevity, health, and happiness. Lanterns hang down from the roofs, their red glow shimmering in the night air. There is cheer and festivity all around, as people and their Pokemon party, open up stalls, serve food, make parades, and have sporting battles in celebration of the Lunar New Year.
This year is the Year of the Monkey! This year is normally associated with fire, and people born under this year are said to be clever and smart, like the monkeys they are. Unsurprisingly, one will see many a monkey Pokemon being paraded around this year - not only Infernape, but Primeape, Ambipom, Simisear, Simisage, and Simipour! In addition to all the traditional decorations, one will likely see many monkey-shaped decorations, and even ask wild monkey Pokemon to visit their cities, offering fruit in exchange for the auspicious visit of the Monkey during the Festival.
While there are many parades and decorations fly up in almost every city in Veria for the Lunar New Year, the main event is always the Spring Festival Contest, held in a different city each year, decided by a drawing. This year, it is to be held in Faraday City, in their classically-decorated Floating Stage, tuned to the artistic colors and flair of the Lunar New Year. This is a chance for any and all who desire to sign up (not just Coordinators!) to participate in the main event, and win the rare and coveted Spring Ribbon. The theme of the Spring Festival Contest is auspiciousness, bounty, and happiness! There is extra thematic flair for people who use a Monkey Pokemon or reference to the Year of the Monkey.
The Contest will be divided into three segments, starting February 8th with the Lunar New Year, and each lasting a week:
Winners will be announced the following day, and prizes will be divulged. Please remember that rounds will last only their defined time limits - judges will only judge Contest material within the timeframe of the round.
