Skye blinked in surprise at the girl's outburst, he didn't expect her to actually know what a prosthetic meant but he was wrong. He was sure there was more to her than what was presented, perhaps she was genius, or maybe she was a lot older than she appeared. It wasn't impossible but there are general cases of slow aging but if that was the case she would be the most extreme case of it. He shook his head and waved her spology off.
"It's fine, don't worry about it."
Then to change the subject she went into 'paranomal agent mode'? Although he wasn't too sure how much conspiracy was apart of the actual investigating. Most of the time the conspiracies are nothing but tall tales, but Skye would be stupid to say that none of those stories have merit. Sometimes there were truth to them as he is one of paranormal's many observers. It was quite ironic how he wa able to see these things but didn't believe in nonsensical conspiracies. And as he listened to Harper's theory on the gypsum what he has thought was previously true. It didn't make sense but there was something worth looking into, somethign truthful and that made sense.
"Hmm, well gypsum is a sedimentary rock/crystalline mineral. It's kinda chalk like in texture, it usually comes as white or even a grey color. Gypsum can be found all over the world, usually occuring as crystals or as deposits in beds. When we were in the sinkhole I observed how the walls looked like discolored layers, most of them were the same color that is exhibited by gypsum."
He flipped through a few drawings he had of bedrocks with a section labeled 'gypsum'. He brought the note pad down so that Harper could see it better.
"Gypsum is made of oxygen, sulfur, calcium and water. As evaporation occurs the sulfur is not protected by the water and oxygen contacts sulfur bonding with it to form a sulfate. The sulfate then bonds with calcium and water to create gypsum."
He paused for a moment to point to the other unlabelled layers of the bedrock.
"I bet you anything that these other deposits are left overs of calcium and sulfur. Gypsum tends to form in geologic areas that are called evaporation basins, as the climate changes from tropic to arid the water evaporates, concentrating the minerals it held. Gypsum can also form in tidal flats along coastlines, in lagoons, deltas, hot springs, volcanic areas, desert water tables and even on plant roots. And what's around Carrefore? Lots of dry arid places, and savannahs. A perfect breeding ground for gypsum to be formed."
Hmm yes that certainly explained why the gypsum deposits were there but even then, the ground was way softer than it should be. Harper weighed less than he did despite him being really thin. The ground opened up underneath her but not him. Why was that? Unless...he began to pace...
"Hmm I don't know about this being a testing site but terrain like this naturally attracts ground type pokemon. Pokemon like diglett, dugtrio, drilbur, exadril, and trapinch. Those types loves the underground, although I didn't see this there must be a lot of pokemon under there. If any of those specific pokemon do live under there they must be burrowing through the already soft gypsum and making it way more unstable than normal."
Skye nodded to himself, yeah that could explain the randon openings. Harper could've stepped in an area that was completely burrowed through and it collasped.
"Pokemon shouldn't be able to change the composition of the earth but they can be changed by it. Who knows how the gypsum is affecting their diet. But one thing you brought up is true, there could be more gypsum deposits around the town and yes even around the tower. If the pokemon like the taste of gypsum then there's more risks of sinholes opening. And the people should be warned, this area has no hope of being reformed but other areas might still have a chance."
