Once again, Val found themself wandering through the ruins of ancient Carrefor, scouring the area for anything of value. A few of their Pokemon walked by their side, but Val still felt alone amidst the ruins, knowing that the odds of encountering another human being all the way out here were slim to none.
It wasn't a bad feeling, though, all in all.
It was a gloomy day, but Val didn't mind that, either--less chance of a sunburn that way, and Val had learned their lesson about sunburns the hard way before. (They weren't sure if they were more susceptible to sunburns than most people, or if it was just that they were especially prone to losing track of time and staying out in the sun too long, but either way, they had had more sunburns than they'd care to admit over the years.)
The weather was cool, and there was a slight breeze blowing... it really was a perfect day to spend searching the ruins.

(Claiming Sablenite)
Val's Rowlet, who had been flying here and there in search of treasure, suddenly darted into a pile of rubble, then darted back out and flew over to Val, holding something in her beak.
"Did you find something?" Val asked the Rowlet.
The Rowlet responded by dropping what she had been holding, leaving the shimmering purple stone laying at Val's feet. "Row."
Val bent down and grabbed the stone off of the ground. "Nice work."
"Lettrow!" The Rowlet flew off again, apparently off to search for more treasure.
Val stopped and took a moment to examine the stone closely. Perfectly circular, with strands of red and purple twisted around the center... They were pretty confident in identifying their Rowlet's find as not only a Mega Stone, but a Sablenite at that. Not only did they have a Key Stone, now, but also a Mega Stone that one of the Pokemon they frequently kept around could use...
All they needed now was to learn how Mega Evolution actually worked... and after all, they did like to learn...
Val pondered the Mega Stone in their hand and the possible future laid out before them for a long moment before pocketing the Sablenite and moving on.
