Nothing Ventured; Nothing Gained
As the two continued on their way into the trees, Valorie felt that... something was off. This caused her attention on Steven to waver as she attempted to determine why it felt strange. She couldn't even figure out why it felt weird. Nothing looked strange. She didn't hear anything weird. It was... almost like the hair on the back of her neck was standing on end. Was there danger?
As she looked around more carefully, the answer would come apparent. There was danger. It just wasn't actually to them, initially. Even so, as she saw the Teddiursa being harassed by a Zorua and its gang, Valorie frowned. She took two Pokeballs from her pouch and released Efe again, but this time with Tali, her Makuhita. "Fake Out, both of you. Each target a different Zoroark." This managed to momentarily incapacitate two of them. "Tali, use Sand Attack on a third." The Pokemon did as instructed, rustling up almost a little cloud of dirt and dust by shuffling her feet. Then she clapped, using the force of the sound to cover another Zoroark in sand.
With three now distracted, their attention turned to the Zorua and the last Zoroark. The basic form barked orders at this remaining one and it dashed in toward Tali to use Foul Play, waiting for her to react to its closeness before it used her momentum to throw her to the ground. It didn't waste time, following that up with a U-turn to switch with the blinded Zoroark which was recovering a bit. This left Tali reeling and Valorie gritting her teeth.
The Teddiursa, now realizing that these people were helping it, teared up a little before throwing a bit of a tantrum. This tantrum manifested as a Thrash attack and she gunned it for the Zorua first. Tali watched this as she brought herself to a stand, Efe observing carefully, and Valorie looking surprised. All four Zoroark, however, growled and started to turn on the Teddiursa. "Efe, Helping Hand! Tali, Arm Thrust!" Valorie wasn't going to let the poor Teddiursa get hurt any more than it already probably was.
The Tyrogue moved forward to touch his partner, letting his energy flow into her as she prepared her multi-part attack. Before the dark-types could consider moving in to attack the Teddiursa, Tali was attacking the one that had hit her. Four slaps sent the Pokemon sprawling and again the attention of all of the Zoroark were back on Valorie's party. "Finish it off with a Heavy Slam and a Tackle from Efe." Her Pokemon did as instructed, but their attacks weren't as powerful as she intended. Still... it was good enough. She threw an Ultra Ball to absorb this Zoroark at least to keep it occupied momentarily.
The Zoroarks retaliated. One scoffed at Efe, Taunting him to prevent another incident with Helping Hand. Another used U-turn, smacking the Tyrogue in the face before retreating to a safer distance. The same one that had Taunted him moved in to Scratch at him too, causing the Tyrogue to retreat a little. Meanwhile, the Teddiursa was still Thrashing about and went after one of the Zoroark. Efe followed suit, Tackling the same one. And then came a Heavy Slam from Tali, causing Valorie to grin a bit.
"All right, use Arm Thrust," came the instruction. The Makuhita wound up and punched at the one that tried to keep its distance, but it didn't hold nearly as much power as the first, only hitting three times now. This time, when the Zoroark came in, both Pokemon were ready. Efe dodged this U-turn attempt and Tali was able to defend herself against the Scratch somewhat. Although it was clear that the little bear was slowing down, she had one more Thrashing attack left in her before she collapsed, dizzy and confused.
"Finish it, Tali. Arm Thrust on both of them." The Makuhita did as instructed with no hesitation, smacking down both of the dark-types. Again, the woman produced more Pokeballs, catching the entire group of illusionists unless something went wrong. Then, she walked over to the Teddiursa and gently picked her up, helping to right the small Pokemon so she could stand on her feet without falling over. "You did great out there, you know? You saw them attacking us for defending you and you didn't hesitate to use one of your strongest moves, I'm guessing. One that had a downside for you too! I'd be honored if you'd join us."
