A glow of light, and Gamma, Dasha, and Nik were in Faraday. The Gallade straightened and stretched, not sure why exactly they were there when he was pretty sure it was their off day but whatever, right? Dasha, meanwhile, seized Nik by the hand and was pulling them up the street. This was the residential area now, and she knew it semi-well at least from her motorcycle directions.
"I am 23 years old," Dasha stated as if she and Nik both didn't know this. "I am a long-term member of Interpol, but I am hardly a senior member. I am ranked but only in the Eran branch." Was she walking a little faster now even? Gamma looked apologetically at Nik before Dasha came up to stop at the house. Her hand would not release Nik's wrist right then. "I will not shoulder the burden of this. I cannot, will not, keep this from my commander. He's shown too much care for my well-being for me to do this behind his back." She paused a moment, staring Nik in the eyes before looking at the door of the Kaimana house. A hand raised, her knuckles ready to knock.

Come with me. Nik startled, but indeed had no time to protest. For all their experience teleporting, the suddenness on top of how fried their nerves were left them queasy and off-balance when they hit the ground, but Dasha didn't give them much time to recover or process it. Where even--...was this Faraday? ... Oh no. Oh-- oh fuck...
They were barely processing Dasha's words but got enough. They... They were still crying and didn't even know whether they should be breaking down harder or shutting down completely. But as she paused, Nik's mind raced for options.. and found none, or none viable. They had no Pokemon. They couldn't fight her, they couldn't run. They had been a half second from finishing their earlier sentence, 'or you may as well walk out that door and not come back' but they were too afraid she genuinely would and didn't think they could have lived with themself.
If worse came to worst.. Mia would survive. She was the capital city's favorite daughter. Even if she lost her job she had so much going for her and always overcame every obstacle put before her. Her life might be negatively impacted but she could still thrive easily. And.. as much as it would hurt Nik and Mia both, Nik would not see Orion go back to jail, and would not abandon him like this. With Mia and Orion both hanging from a cliff, Nik only having time to save one, they'd probably lunge for Mia. But here, with this, they were already considering how quickly they could flee the region with Orion and probably Jazz, though he was actually clean in all this so if he cooperated with Interpol he could happily live in Pahala or aboard Sinclair and do whatever if he wanted. It would beyond suck to lose everything so soon after pouring all their funds into the house but Nik could live so long as they had one person who genuinely loved them by their side.
Sera.. might have to just deal but this was her fault on several levels, and Nik didn't care what happened to Marcie when push came to shove.
"Okay..." they managed to murmur. Their only actual 'choices' were to accept her terms and pray they could get the Commander on their side, or refuse and basically guarantee she spilled everything and fucked over everyone with no chance to defend. The latter was not an option. So...
Inside, the old cartoon version of How the Grinch Stole Christmas played softly on the tv. Keone lay on the couch fidgeting by finger-weaving some yarn while listening to it. Nalani and Kai were both in their rooms. So as the knock sounded, Keone straightened up a bit. He'd have shouted 'I'll get it', but wasn't sure they'd even heard and didn't want to wake them if they'd passed out for the night. He did hesitate for a moment, but Sable lay sleeping in front of the tv stand, and he knew she'd jump to his rescue if anything went down.
So, he slowly cracked the door open, then opened it wider upon recognizing the woman. "Oh~ Hey Dasha." Only then did he register the woman next to her was crying?? "O-oh uh. What's wrong? Should I go get my dad?"

Dasha took in a low, shaky breath. Even as she had mentally committed to this, some part of her had no desire to follow through with it. This could hurt Nik- would hurt Nik- but she couldn't, wouldn't, put her future at risk for this. Not when Nik had made their choices.
As the door swung open, Dasha's gaze dropped from where she'd expected to see Kai down to Keone. It was only in this moment that she was aware of what she probably looked like. Her makeup was water proof, but her eyes were still vaguely glossy as were her cheeks. She pushed this thought aside for now and tried very hard to smile for at least a few seconds. "If it's not too much trouble, please." She didn't even know what she'd do if it was, but here they were.

Nik didn't know what they had been expecting, but a frail child in pajamas was not it. ...He's like a tiny palette-swapped Luke. Ffff brain no. Just because he had an eyepatch--... and long hair currently pulled back in a ponytail and from what Nik could see he looked like a light breeze might break him okay yeah he was a small palette-swapped Luke but. Nyeh. Not really where their mind should be right now, was it? Keone just nodded at Dasha's request. "I can wake him if he's not still up. .. Uh, you can come in too if you want." He opened the door farther to let them in, and followed up with, "You can sit wherever, just watch for my yarn on the couch."The floor was very open. To Keone's right, Dasha and Nik's left, there was a large tv pushed against the wall with a sleeping Furfrou in front of it and a coffee table and then couch a few feet farther back than her. Along the wall that ran down that side, a bit farther from the tv than the couch, was a door that seemed to be Nalani's based on the decorations on it, then a bit of an inlet with another door that was likely a bathroom or closet [it was a bathroom], then continuing down the normal wall another door to a room, open enough to glimpse it was clearly Keone's. The area behind the couch was pretty open, save for a medium Christmas tree in the back corner on that side. To the other side of the front door was the kitchen area, running long along the walls, with a small dining table and chairs set close-ish to the far end, just far enough from the counter that someone could easily walk between them without a squeeze. The far back wall was mostly windowed, save for where stairs ran across it, and a nook disappeared around the corner from the far side of the kitchen. Nik and Dasha wouldn't have any indication from here what was up or downstairs, but the nook seemed to contain at least Kai's bedroom door, as that was where Keone headed to knock. "Hey dad, you up?" The guests probably wouldn't hear a slightly delayed questioning groan, but Keone did. "Dasha's here with... maybe her friend or her sister? But it sounds important."--!? Well that got Kai focused. "One sec." He briefly grabbed and checked his phone, but nothing? Why would she show up on his doorstep unannounced? He.. guessed it could be some friendly surprise but with Keone's words he was far more concerned than hopeful. Friend or sister? Why would she be with.. Ilya was it? Illia? Iliad. Odyssey. Something. Or maybe he meant Alex if Keone talked to them first who knew. Kai stumbled-- okay tripped-- out of bed. Where did his pants g-- okay there they were ugh. He wouldn't even bother if Dasha hadn't seemed uncomfortable at certain things in the past and he still didn't bother with a shirt, but at least this was better than just his boxers, right? He.. may have pushed instead of pulled his door for a second, too. Fuck he was not sober enough for this. But at last he emerged, squinting a bit at the suddenly brighter light, gait a bit unsteady, hair a disheveled mess, but here and ready to deal with whatever needed dealt with. "Hey, wsup?" Okay he still sounded groggy too but he'd get over that in another minute tops. ...Wait was.. that Nikolai? He briefly squinted at Dasha's companion. That.. face was definitely what he remembered from the hospital and the one time prior they'd talked, when Kai bought Drason and Beam, but... Ya know he wasn't gonna question right now why Nik looked different unless that was part of the issue. Nik, meanwhile, was feeling... more than a little intimidated. Kai was, apparently, not quite as built as Orion but damn close to it, and probably had about as many scars even if none Nik could see were as big and obvious as Orion's worse ones. Much later, in retrospect, the thought 'oh shit her boss is kind of hot' might cross Nik's mind, but in this moment their thoughts could not be farther from it, and the impression was pretty firmly rooted in 'holy shit this guy could probably kill me with his bare hands without breaking a sweat ahaha,,,,,,,, 8');;;;' "C-can we talk somewhere private?" they squeaked, spouted rather quickly in their rush of nerves. ... "Mm--yeah." Yeah, Keone was still here, and Kai could send him to his room but his room was kind of right there so... "You can go back to what you were doing," he told Keone, ruffling the boy's hair lightly. "You two can come up to my office."A brief trip upstairs-- during which, in following not far behind Kai, Nik was starting to think they faintly smelled whiskey, which was not really helping calm their fear-- led them to a small hallway containing two doors. The one on the far end looked to lead out to a roof patio, while Kai led them in the second to a medium-sized study. A desk and computer, several chairs, a number of bookcases-- it had a nice atmosphere but nothing too remarkable. Of course, should Dasha have spoken on their way up, he'd be listening intently, and if not he was very ready to hear once they got inside. [Layout ref]

Dasha stepped in right after Keone, her hand never quite leaving Nik's arm. "Thanks," she answered not quite sitting down even as Keone shifted to Kai's room. As Kai emerged, she felt herself tense a little for a few seconds. Arceus, Kaimana could you not put on a shirt or-Whatever for now. Dasha had been about to preface what she was going to say when Nik spoke, and her gaze flickered back to them instead. Right, right.
She'd be quiet until they entered the study. Once in there, however, Dasha straightened as much as she could before starting to talk. "Kai, I need your help." Her hand may have tightened a little on Nik's arm but not by much. "Nik's gotten in over his head and…" she paused for a moment biting her lip but keeping a pretty hard eye contact with him. "I need you to promise to hear him-er out- and to do something productive with this information." The corners of her eyes were glossy again, and her breath was shaky, but her words were not. "Please." Ok, maybe that tone was a little desperate.

Nik winced slightly as Dasha's grip tightened, but Kai didn't notice her change. He was busy taking a seat by his desk-- pushed against the wall, unlike his office at work, so his back would face the desk rather than it being between him and the Laskas. His eyes did move right back to Dasha's after he sat, though, shifting over to Nik only once as she spoke and then after. Once his arm did gesture to some more comfortable arm chairs nearby but even then he held her gaze.
Just how deep are you in...? he thought, dreading the response. But his answer aloud would be calmer. "I'll listen."
Hhhhhhhhhh Nik half wanted to just... black right out. Check out of consciousness for a while and deal with this later. This was... not how this evening was supposed to go. Ugh, they were never gonna be able to invite friends over again, if they even had a house to try. "I... should I just.. infodump everything or... did you want specific things or input...?" They had thought they were doing the best thing just cutting all the bullshit and being straightforward with everyone before but that got poor reactions from most and Dasha pissed and draging them here so they didn't trust their sense of judgment anymore, and didn't want to say too much without her-... 'permission' made this feel especially stupid but that's what it was, huh?

Dasha breathed a little easier when Kai spoke, and her grip on Nik had eased some. What did she want, though? Ugh, she wanted… she… Ugh. It had been reasonable for months, but now she regretted not explaining at least some of this to Kai sooner. Perhaps her mistrust of him passed the Genesect incident had kept her from it but even then…. "Just… let me explain some of it first," she finally answered letting go of Nik's arm entirely to press fingers into her temples.
"A couple months back, during the incident where I was pushed out of the van Niso Konto had stolen, I also learned Konto knew something of Nik. When I confronted them about it, they explained to me they had a friend who was dating Niso," she shot a glance sideways at Nik not quite for confirmation before looking forward again. "Apparently rather than turning him over to local authorities, they're attempting to reform him themselves- or rather she is and Nik tolerated it."
"I…." Dasha's voice waivered, and she stopped for a second to catch it before going on. "Decided to give them this chance in exchange for information regarding others that are high on the Verian lists including Top Hat." Her face tightened a little. "As was noted before, since then there has been a decline in Konto's outbursts, something that might be attributed to this." She doubted it, and it may have hung in her voice a little too obviously, but it was out there.

Konto knew something of Nik. Kai's eyes pierced through Nik at that remark. So that explained why they-- (she said they now? okay they worked)-- were in over their head, but how how deep was certainly still a question.
A friend who was dating Niso. ... The fuck. ... Well, that did align with the "girlfriend" vandalism incident a while back, didn't it... Any lingering skepticism toward reports attributing that to Niso could probably be put aside.
Attempting to reform him. Niso Konto? ... Well, he'd give points for ambition and optimism, but probably subtract just as many for stupidity and recklessness. Kai's jaw clenched and he leaned back a bit deeper in his chair, arms crossed.
As Dasha confirmed she'd been hiding this for some time, Kai breathed out slowly. He wanted to be disappointed, or angry, or something, but his head was a little too foggy to decide exactly what and settled for a vague 'negative'. He wasn't happy but that was about the most he could pin down.
She had a point about the outbursts, but that begged a pretty simple question before anything else: "So what changed that you're telling me now?" Showing up at his doorstep after dark without warning dragging her brother-sister-sibling in person and looking like they'd both been crying recently and might get back to it at any second.

Dasha's nerves were already shot. Some vague part of her wanted to turn around and put a hole in Kai's wall or maybe punch Nik's ribs in for ever having made her debate agreeing to this at all. The question, however, was enough to keep her going as best she could.
"Today I found out this one's boyfriend's boss," Arceus that was a mouth full and she was taking an extra breath in there before speaking again. "Was the same woman that cut my face at the Rose Gala incident earlier in the year. She claims to have been mind-controlled by Konto but I-" She didn't need to say how little she believed it. It was plausible, yes, very plausible in her mind after how Marcie had phrased it, how she'd reacted to it, how she'd anything to it but…
Dasha took in another breath. "I don't know how far this goes and-" Her hands tightened and relaxed a couple of times. "I don't want to hurt Interpol by acting alone." Her jaw clenched, and she shot Nik another look briefly. "Even for my sibling." She was… rather disgusted with herself now, actually, and rather vaguely angry at Nik all over again.

Ah...
Kai rubbed his face. This was only the.. third? probably? (he shouldn't have trouble keeping count at that low number but ha...) night he drank at home since the kids got here, and he'd only started letting himself at all when they were winding down for the night to help stave off his withdrawals and help him sleep. So of course they'd come drag him out of bed just as he was getting settled... Sigh. How did they expect him to process this level of information?
But it wasn't like he had a choice, was there? This was hardly the sort of thing you could just casually ask to discuss in the morning.
"Anything to add to this, other-Laska?" ... Did his mouth just say that? Was that some vague cynical humor or what even? Okay...
Nik balked just slightly at the title but quickly refocused. "The arrangement was that I try to use Niso to find other criminals, or give you guys a heads up if I heard him planning anything extra stupid." What of Niso's wasn't extra stupid? Uh.. "I mean like... Robbing a bank versus like, causing a scene at McDonald's. I doubt I'd hear the small shit in advance anyway." Yeah, that was clearer, they guessed... "P-..point is, if it turns out Marcie's a crook then...? I just came through on my word, right? Like.. if the goal is to find criminals and we found one then that's.. a good thing, right?"
Not for Orion. Hhhhhhhhhhhh yeah... Nik didn't know how deep her shit ran but they knew, Orion's feelings aside, working for her had been a good outlet for him and Nik had been watching him shift into a healthier mindset over the months and... as much as Nik thought he'd be 'fine' finding another job at this point they did want him to be better than fine.
"...B-but.. Right now all we know for sure is she had at least one encounter with Niso and was involved in the Gala. Former Gym Leader Elena Benoit was hypnotized into helping him during the Life Pillar incident; I've heard details on that from both the League when I was a Gym Leader and from her little brother who's a personal friend. We know her story aligns with what he's capable of and..." Oh they were about to lie to the face of one of the most powerful men in the country and their own twin to protect someone they didn't even like. Orion if you ever questioned for a moment how deeply Nik loved you they might just punch you again. "From what I know of her--"
"Name," Kai prompted.
Ah, right they'd only said Nik's boyfriend's boss so far. "Marceline Labele, founder of AZOTH. So if she's dirty they are too--" Arceus they weeerrre most likely ugh poor Jazz was gonna get in over his head and poor Luke and hhhhhhhhhhhh-- "and so far they've been working with the League and striving for advances in human and Pokemon quality of life. She treats her employees incredibly well and helped fund my boyfriend's kid cousin in custom building Gym Leader Mia Kearney a customized prosthetic arm. It's really hard to imagine her being some secret evil mastermind and really easy to imagine why she wouldn't want to admit she'd let Niso use her back when she was first starting to build her public reputation..."
Kai took all this in as well as he could, but Nik's words made a lot of sense... even if he was about 95% sure Mia was Nik's girlfriend (or had been? he couldn't keep up with celebrity news), so Kai recognized personal bias involved. Slowly, he sighed. "All right... I don't think any of us wants to run to the office right this second, but tomorrow morning we'll open an investigation into Ms. Labele's history and dealings, and AZOTH's connections. If she's as innocent as you believe, she shouldn't have anything to worry about."
Inside, Nik was quietly screaming. They knew all they had to do was insist she'd thoroughly fooled them if she wound up caught, but stiiiill... Hopefully, at the very least, their vouching had helped buy her time and would make Kai and Dasha a little less skeptic, a little less urgent.
"As for Konto..." Kai's eyes moved to Dasha. "What is your personal opinion on the matter?" This may have been about half valuing her input and half deflecting having to put so much effort into the decision himself, but it didn't mean he wasn't going to have something to say either.

A small, shaky breath escaped from Dasha as Nik spoke. Yeah, that was true. Perhaps roping them all into one room and calling it Friendsmas wasn't the best way to go about it, though. She frowned a little harder at remembering Elena but let Nik and Kai speak. Dtskskjdlakdjalsdj Nik did you have to defend her at all??? Dasha's teeth grit behind her pressed lips. But…. Hhhhhh if it was true, if she was just… caught up in this mess the way Nik was describing…. Hhhhh. She was weirdly thankful Kai would at least open the investigation tomorrow. Not that she expected him to do much different.
The mention of Konto, however, had her frowning a bit. "I'd personally prefer we stick him in a cell and have a Chandelure burn his souls out." Well that was straightforward and morbid as hell. "He's ruined enough people, and I have no desire to protect him from it." She'd been the one to interview Elena Benoit after all and had enough sense of what happened to Thomas. And hell, she'd been at the Gala. She'd also been pushed off a truck. "The only one I care about in this mess is Nik."

DASHA??? Nik startled at just how immediately dark that went, and couldn't help but wonder how much thought she'd given this over the months.
Even Kai was a little uneasy, though he couldn't place why. Maybe just how fast she went to that? But he understood where her feelings were coming from, both in terms of punishing Niso and protecting family...
"...Those souls are innocent victims in all this..." Nik murmured, and a sharp, even slightly sobering chill ran through Kai. Oh... Yeah.. that was sure a reason to feel uneasy about that plan. Though... if tales of Chandelure's abilities were even true, and those burned by it were trapped wandering the mortal plane, was that... actually worse than being stuck with Niso? That was hard to say...
"...Any other input..?" Kai asked Nik.
Nik's mind raced. They couldn't read this guy at all. Was he leaning toward Dasha's plan? Was he looking for a way around it? Was he really indifferent even still? Nik had no idea and didn't want to take any chances. "His girlfriend saved my life," they sputtered. "It's.. not just I owe her but-- she did that just by... She's light??"
Kai raised a brow, face scrunching a bit in confusion, and Nik flustered trying to find words. "She just.. I can't--.. It's hard to explain but this is her calling. I've never seen her get along with a happy normal person for very long." Oh uh?? They'd never actually put things in quite these terms directly before even though this was info they 'knew' in separate pieces for ages. "She's drawn to miserable people, to assholes, to darkness, and she floods those people with light. She's... a psychic empath, and she can physically force you to feel things you never thought you could feel." It occurred to Nik they'd never shared this with Dasha but.. "In.. my limited personal contact, and a lot more in hearing her gush about him, I have every reason to believe she's making huge strides in teaching him empathy... The non-psychic kind I mean." Deep breath Nik.. Deep breaths.
"She... pulled me back from the edge and she's kept Niso from killing anyone for 8 months and counting. She's petty and immature and naive at times, but when it comes to specifically this, I don't believe anyone will ever be more qualified."
Psychic, huh...? Kai was going to have to do more research into that, he supposed... But... Ugh, he couldn't tell if Nik was genuinely compelling or if he was just vaguely emotional at the moment, or even just on some level hoping they could somehow save all those souls Niso had bound... "You'd bet Veria's future on that?" he asked, a bit sharp despite his contemplations.
Nik startled but quickly forced themself calm. They took a deep breath, and answered evenly. "I've sheltered and defended the kid who slaughtered thousands of innocent Pokemon, blinded my friend's sister, held people hostage for fun on more than one occasion, broke into my apartment and personally threatened me and my partner Pokemon, ruined the closest friendship I'd had in my life up to that point in a way that's never fully recovered--" deep breeeaaath-- "threw my twin out of a moving vehicle, threatened my boyfriend's cousin and his partner Pokemon, and on a very personal level just straight up grates on my nerves. I quit the best job I can ever imagine having. I've risked alienating Dasha knowing the years I spent without her were such a huge factor in my suicidal streak. I've admitted the involvement of my romantic partners in this. I'm not protesting you investigating the woman who helped pay for my new house and has been massively instrumental in helping my boyfriend heal from all his own past issues. I'm standing here talking to you risking everything I have and everything I've worked for because I believe that strongly that Sera can do this, and that Niso repaying the world for his crimes is better and safer for everyone."
Kai thought over everything, and opened his mouth, but it seemed Nik beat him with one more afterthought. "If I'm wrong, you can always switch to your plan later. If you're wrong, trying to kill him and failing is only going to make him more vengeful when not if he eventually escapes. I want to fix the problem, not just try and risk failing to get rid of it."
Kai sighed. "...Give me... a few minutes here."
He wished he could afford to sleep on this. But the more he thought over everything... The bitter justice-seeking and frankly jaded part of him agreed with Dasha... but both his pragmatic and sentimental parts agreed with Nik. Or maybe not all of Nik's spiel about how amazing his friend was, but.. the part about being able to give up on penance but not come back from the damage they might do trying punishment. The depth of Nik's conviction here was honestly pretty compelling as well, even if quite a few parts of Kai suspected they might just be a fucking moron for the efforts...
Finally, "You were a League employee, right? And.. fuck some noble rank in Era? Know your mom was a baroness but you did something on your own, mm?"
Nik didn't know what this had to do with anything but... "...Yeah?"
"So you know how to do paperwork." ...Yeah?? "I want.. as complete a report as you can put together as soon as possible. If it takes you longer than a day or two, drop off what you've got and keep working so I can start reading, but don't leave out the smallest detail."
Nik shifted uncomfortably. "...You just mean on Niso, right?"
"Everything," Kai clarified. This was admittedly also a bit of deflection to keep from being up listening to it for hours tonight, but paperwork was better anyway for several reasons. "Everything related to this. A thorough account on personal encounters with Konto, on interactions others have had with him to your knowledge, on... Sera-was-it? Sera's character and your knowledge of her background. Everything." Kai didn't like the look on Nik's face, and challenged, "You got something to hide?"
....... Very quietly, Nik mumbled, "Ikindausedtosleepwithher..."
Kai deadpanned hard, then slowly ran a hand down his face. "...Kid. What the fuck."
"It was befo--" Kai held up a hand, and Nik's mouth clamped shut.
Kai rolled his eyes and sighed in exasperation, but droned, "Obviously you don't have to go into--.. When I said the smallest details I don't need your daily shopping lists and shit either, I meant... any detail that might have significance." Some of the tension seemed to slip out of Nik as they nodded, and Kai groaned a bit to himself. "For fuck's sake..."
Arceus where was he. "RIGHT. So. Want that report and detailed, regular reports on other interactions moving forward. If I don't hear from you or Dasha, I'll assume you're neglecting this duty you've begged for and take action. If I don't see progress in your reports, I'll take action. If I find out you've lied to us, I'll take action."
Ahahahaahahahahahahha Nik was a dead person hahahaha oh Arceus help them ow oh um. Their face would not show this panic at least.
"If your methods don't get results, I am very willing to rain a full force raid down to apprehend him, chain him down, and test methods of death until we find something that does get results. If we can't even oxygen deprive or sedate him somehow, I'm sure locking him in an waterproof box and burying it in the bottom of the sea would keep him out of our hair for a few centuries minimum, and I'm willing to accept that. Or figure out what part of him is the core of his regeneration and cut him down to just that, lock it in too small a box to let him regenerate. Have a feeling that'd work."
Holy?? SHIT??? This guy was... very fucking scary and Nik wanted to go home and hide for a year. The idea of him and Dasha working together was only that much more terrifying, heaven help everyone...
"But..." Oh thank Arceus. "I do agree a peaceful resolution would be best if it's possible... And you are very lucky that just the right stars aligned to come to that agreement, because even now I'm questioning if it's worth the effort. Do not disappoint me." Nik had no words, and simply swallowed before nodding several times.
Deflating slightly, Kai turned his attention back to Dasha. "Do you find those terms acceptable? And... if so, do you want to keep playing Nik's keeper or distance yourself from the case? I don't have a problem giving you cliff note updates if you feel too close to everything to handle the full details, either indefinitely or just until you've had a chance to recover more." For all the threat in his tone a few moments before, it was clear now he was genuinely fine with whatever would make Dasha more comfortable, so long as the job still got done.

Dasha's features didn't change even at Nik's murmur. The souls of the victims had been long since dead as far as she was concerned, or worse in this case: tormented by being part of Niso anyways. They were his unwilling captives in yet another hostage situation. And she'd rather be dead permanently than deal with that herself.
Dasha balked, however, as Nik moved to defend Sera again. Her hands balled into fists, but she didn't say a damn word. A psychic empath? Teaching Niso empathy by forcing it on him, then? But she certainly wouldn't bet Veria's future on that.
…..And her eyes were stinging again as Nik spoke. Not from their words, no. But from the situation. She did, however, just remember she'd never mentioned Kearney or Verdi specifically and put that to the back of her mind for now. However, as Nik went on, something in her tightened again. She wanted to snap back so hard, so bitingly, but it was Kai's words that had her stopping short.
That was…. part of why she came to Kai in the first place? To handle this- or help her handle this. To maybe not completely make it go away but ensure she was not alone in it. And that was what he was doing so? So. PaperworkDasha's lips twitched, and for a second she almost smiled. Everything, thank Arceus. But- she slapped a very audible hand over her face at Nik's admission. Nik??? Really???? How many partners did you have and why. "What the fuck…" she echoed Kai quietly.
But…. as Kai slowly started to speak again, something in Dasha started to settle. Kai's forwardness, assurance, and whatever else was actually a huge comfort. This was akin to one of her Eran branch commander, and Arceus, she missed that more than she realized. She missed the heavy structure, the intense orders, the- Even if Kai was threatening her twin, Dasha here was having a nostalgia moment, apparently.
Test methods of death until we find something that gets results- that too. She missed that too. But Kai's levelheadedness also …helped. His willingness to work with this even after all of this was weirdly validating, and a slow sigh would escape from her at that.
As the question was turned to her, however, Dasha gave a small nod to the first part- only to pause at the second. Did she want to remain so closely tied to this? Blue eyes finally switched from Kai to Nik. "They are acceptable. And-" she paused a moment trying not to second-guess herself too much but more giving herself a moment to consider anyways. "As much as I would like some distance, I…. want to see this through." If she could put herself between Kai and Nik, act as any kind of cushion for Nik specifically, she was willing to do that.
Everyone else could go to hell at this point, honestly.
Slowly, Dasha deflated thereafter. The visible exhaustion in her gaze was palpable, but if nothing else, there was something akin to catharsis from all of this. Even if Kai gave her hell for it for the rest of time, even if he suspended her from going to Era for a while, it was out now rather than later.
"Thank you for listening," she finally spoke, her gaze on Kai again. And for everything else she realized. Her lips parted but then pursed again as she suppressed the urge to bring up more information right then. "I'll write my own report out as well." That would make it easier for both of them right then. "And if you have any specific questions I can answer them." As best as she could. She or Nik, she supposed she could have said, but again maybe that cushion between was pushing her.

Kai nodded as she said she wanted to see it through. "Understandable." He'd be lying to say he wasn't at least a bit relieved, too. He was very willing to take the burden from her, but only after she'd assured him he wouldn't have to did he realize he may have resented being stuck with such an overwhelming thing he'd had no hand in starting, if he had.
Thank you for listening. "Always," he answered, tired but sincere. If he'd been... he didn't know, in intensive care from a drunken motorcycle accident or something (wow gee brain that was what you jumped to? ow) he'd still do his best to hear out and aide any agent willing to come to him. That was what it meant to be in command, wasn't it?
"I'll... work on coming up with questions when the morning." He almost said 'when I'm sober' but switched last minute. "Is.. that good for the moment, though? Do either of you need anything?"
Nik quietly, very subtly nodded at the first question, then hesitated before shaking their head at the second. They were.... shaking lightly, and holding back tears, but they just wanted to run home and bury themself in Orion's arms and hide.

A small nod was given at Kai's words. Coming up with questions and continuing this later was good. The last question, however, had her reaching up to her temple, trying to go over everything that had happened to try and assure herself. "I think that's it for now," she answered pausing a moment before smiling a bit weaker. "We'll get out of your hair now."
She'd take a couple steps before reaching a hand and clasping Nik not by the arm but by the hand and kind of pulling them along out as well. She'd give a final nod to Kai once they reached the door and started out onto the street again rather than immediately teleport back to Nik's house.
Finally, though, she spoke again. "I'll take you home and drop you off but I'm-" Never setting foot in that house willingly again. Still angry at you. Disappointed in you. Tired of all of this bullshit. Vaguely teetering at the corners of depression. None of these things made it to her lips. "Going home too. Alex is watching a Pokemon for me, and I don't want to be away too long."
