Hiro still wasn't quite used to Faraday. He missed being able to look out the window and see the sea in the distance-- something he'd had not only back home in Vermillion, but when he'd studied abroad and pretty much everywhere. Uncle Takeki was here, and more jobs were here for mom and the others (better just he commute than everyone else have to), and it was a beautiful city in its own right, and at least Veria's subway system made commuting very easy. But even still...
Today should be nice, though~! Everyone was finally pretty settled into the new house, and he and mom both had the whole day free, so she'd agreed to come look around Old Pahala with him. Hiro'd been out a few times already, but not ventured too deep just yet, more scanning the perimeter and doing some research on how much the wildlife changed between the more natural areas nearby and edging into the city ruins. Today would be a more thorough survey, as well as a chance to get some insight from one of the smartest people he knew~
Once Miyuna was off to school, Hiro went to find Mizuki. "You ready to head out?"

Hehe, it was looking to be a beautiful day. Mizuki had been a little skeptical she'd get a week day off within her first couple of weeks at a new job, but it turned out her senior head was about as laid back as one could imagine and her secretary was nice. With this little blessing, she'd decided to spend the day out with Hiro investigating the remains that had caught his eye. It should be fascinating to see…
She'd been pulling on a messenger bag full of extra things one might need for a day out when Hiro came around to her room and spoke. Turning back, she gave a small nod in response. "There are lunches packed in the refrigerator. Can you grab them?" she asked before turning back to the mirror briefly checking her complexion before deciding a hat was worth it today anyways. Fishing up a baseball cap, she'd pull it on and start to the front door. Once Hiro was there, she'd start out.

"Mm? Yeah, shore thing!" Hiro may have had a bit of bounce in his step as he headed toward the kitchen, and may also have been moving fast enough that he almost passed the fridge before catching the door handle and pulling himself back a few steps to open it.
He was excited, all right? He hadn't had a ton of opportunities to just Hang Out with mom since he graduated, let alone since the move. And getting to show her such an ecologically interesting habitat? It was like Sea Mauville, except it had been there nearly four times as long and was hundreds of times the size if not more. (He was a geologist not a geographer, hehe.)
Most of the trip to the subway station and a good amount of the subway ride would be dominated by rambling about the ruins and a lot of the things Hiro had read and observed so far and theories he wanted to test about the deeper areas.

Oh wow, oh goodness, Hiro had already looked into Old Pahala quite a lot, hadn't he? Of course, Mizuki had expected as much with how interested he had seemed to be on learning about it (and wasn't that the main objective for his research grant? Or was that something else.) The ride over was spent with her smiling entirely too much and listening just as intently as he described everything.
As they finally got to the edge of it, however, Mizuki's eyes would grow large. It … it was huge. Even at a distance, it looked like t could go on for acres and acres. They had really built it up and let it get destroyed, huh? Her eyes would flicker back off towards the offshore platforms that were also easily accessed at this junction point. It… might be nice to check in town and see what was there, after. They were here to see the ruins right then.
Hmmm, actually. Fishing out a Pokeball, she released her Togekiss up into the air. "Aya, would you take a look around?" Not for anything in specific- yes she was messing with her phone, shifting it to camera view, and handing it up to the Togekiss. Who was asking? The plane bird rather quickly took the phone and started flying off to snap some pictures.

As they unboarded and headed toward the ruins, Hiro watched as mom gave her Togekiss her phone. "Ooh~! Recon work, yeah?" He needed to get some birbs so he could do stuff like that probably, eventually. For now, his Mudkip, Aloe, would be released to walk with them. A lot of the Pokemon he'd seen so far were complacent enough, but it was always good to have at least one out when heading into wild territory.
"While Ayame's doing that though, over here's one of the most solid entry points I've seen." He led her down the remnants of an old street, which would eventually head toward a broken stretch of bridge. While it didn't go as far as it used to, it was quite large and what was left seemed very sturdy, offering them a good view of below that stretched for quite a long way in some places before rising buildings blocked it here or there.
"Seems the ground past here dips slowly downward, but it used to be more level."
As they surveyed and Hiro tried to decide the best route to take deeper, Ayame looked around, eventually coming across an oddly shaped stone. ...Oh? Oh it looked kind of like a crown. She wondered if she could fit it over her head fin....
While she did that, some other Pokemon caught Hiro's eye. "Oh! Mom look!" He pointed down below, along the bank, where a few Sealeo had gathered and were bouncing Spheal and various objects around between them with their noses. "They migrate around the shores, but you don't usually sea this many this far south!" Or at least that was true in other warmer regions, and from what he'd read of Veria. What a treat! And they were so entertaining!
He was so busy watching them he only barely noticed an even stranger sight in the distance, and had to do a double take and squint when it caught his eye. "--Wh.." He lifted his glasses trying to see a bit farther but... "Mom is that two Slakoth riding a Wailmer...?" About the time he asked, the Sealeo down below were taking notice, too... and at least one or two of them looked almost hungrily at the new arrivals. That was such a big ball....

Glancing sideways and offering a smile, Mizuki nodded. Just enough recon to get a general idea of the overall feel of the area, yes. Ah good, she didn't need to let out another Pokemon after that with the Mudkip out. Following after Hiroto, she carefully scanned over the area they were walking. She could almost imagine what the city had been like before the destruction. The bridge's stance offered quite a view, and she took it in slowly.
Ayame, meanwhile, flew out and along through the buildings, snapping pictures and the like. However, as something shiny caught her eye, her bird instincts took over. Swooping down to see what it was, she would snatch up an Up-Grade in her birdy feet and continue on along for now.
Hmmm? Oooooh. "Look at them!" They were so round and happy. What cute dears. She too watched them with interest for a while, as mental images of circus acts and performances came to mind again. She hadn't had too much interest in actually performing at any point in life, but the prospects of watching and enjoying it were easily filled. "Do you think they might me migrating, maybe?" The shift in the seasons was starting to occur after all. "Or-" What? Mizuki's head turned, her own eyes squinting with much more clarity.
What was…. what??? "They're rainforest Pokemon- what are they doing riding the…" One of the Sealeo had slipped into the water and was floating under the water towards the big ball. Neither the Wailmer or the Slakoth had seemed to really take notice, however. Another Sealeo started towards the water right after. "They're- shoot they could drown." Already Mizuki was fishing out another Pokeball, releasing a Noivern. "Kazue, don't let them fall in the water!" The Noivern was briefly confused before seeing what was happening. Flying at the Wailmer, she swooped in and snatched up both Slakoth just as the Wailmer was knocked upwards by one of the Sealeo thereafter.

Shoot, they could drown. Ah ship, she was right. Eyes flitted down to his Mudkip before considering what other Pokemon he had, but thankfully mom was already on it, and Hiro breathed out in relief as the Slakoth were scooped up. "Nice save."
A moment later, the Wailmer went flying, letting out a distressed but long and quiet "Waaaaaaiiiiiiiii... D8" as it moved almost in slow motion, like a giant beach ball, through the air. Despite everything, Hiro had to hold back a fit of laughter that wanted to come out. "G--guess we should probably get them to stop, too, huh?" The Wailmer didn't look hurt, just very uncomfortable, so Hiro didn't waste time but didn't rush either, safely tucking his glasses in his bag and fishing out his goggles and a Dive Ball. From the latter, he released his own Wailmer into the water below, drawing the Sealeo's attention enough to drop the wild one; it landed with a massive splash.
With that accomplished, he grabbed Aloe (and her new hat?? ha where'd you find that) and released his Mantine, finding a low part of the bridge wall and jumping on his back to glide down.

Alright, yes, Kazue had the Slakoth just as Mizuki had ordered- but what do with them? Flapping in the air, Kazue looked downwards to the Sealeo pod and the Wailmer now bounced into the fray. Uhmph??? Flying back to land she'd set hem down at least, the two Pokemon seemingly unfazed by the entire experience.
Mizuki, meanwhile, was… trying just as hard to suppress her own laugh at the Wailmer's expense. Poor thing, at least it couldn't drown, though. As Hiro distracted the Sealeo group and went to the rescue, however, she couldn't help but stand back and smirk a little to herself. "Kaz, do you want to go down and see?" she mused. The Noivern wasn't entirely too thrilled but gave a small nod. That was fine, sure, she guessed? Climbing on, she descended down to the group below right after.
Oh, up close she almost sort of wanted one of the pod. They were so cute- but hardly like the birds she enjoyed keeping.

As the Mantine's gentle glide brought them near the surface, Hiro braced himself more to keep stable as Flippy landed in the water. "Moana, you wanna help entertain our friends?" he called to the Wailmer. He was not enthusiastic about his plan, but the other looked so distressed, and he was willing to guess she was younger than him. Siiigh, okay he could take one for the team, or the species, or whatever. Flapping his ears at the Sealeo, he offered himself to be their ball for a bit.
"Sea???" barked one.
"SEALEO!!" exclaimed another.
"Sea!" "SEASEA!" "SEALEO!" "SEALESEA!" They all crowded around for the challenge of bouncing the bigger Wailmer between them, leaving behind the two Spheal in the process, who looked quite upset. 8c They were still bouncy tooo.
In the meantime, Hiro rode Flippy over to check on the wild Wailmer. "You okay?"

Watching as Hiro's Wailmer distracted the Sealeo, Mizuki chuckled softly to herself before directing Kazue to land along the bank. Hopping down and meeting the gazes of the two upset Spheal, she chuckled a little to herself before shrugging. Why not. Bending down to lift one up, she realized immediately how dense they were and uhmph nope that wasn't going to work. Sorry small sphere, you are much heavier than anticipated. A small, apologetic expression came to Mizuki's features before she reached forward and pet them both easily.
As the Sealeo played, however, Mizuki's eyes flickered back over to them and Hiro's Wailmer. She took a few steps forward just watching- only for one of the Sealeo to turn and stare at her. Mizuki blinked before slowly raising a hand- and ???? "SEA!" Wait- why was this one coming forward so fast??? Mizuki backed up rather quickly even as the Sealeo came forward. "W-Wai-" She tripped back hitting the sand of the bank. The Sealeo stared down at her before shoving a nose at her. O-oh? A hand slowly reached forward to pat the nose of the creature, and as it responded warmly, Mizuki slowly smiled again. Just friendly then, that was fine.
W-WAIT??? Before she could react the Sealeo was trying to lift her up like a ball- "No I'm-" A thin boney woman with some spinal issues and this was not a good idea. "Stop-" Thankfully the Sealeo couldn't get a good roll on her, but???
Kazue couldn't stop laughing and wouldn't stop laughing even if she could.

The Wailmer was doing okay, it seemed, at least now that she was balanced and in the water again; she was just a bi shaken. "Heeey, that's a good girl." He pet her gently a moment, then suggested, "You should probably get some distance before they notice you again, though." She wouldn't swim off too far, but did make sure to duck around the corner of a nearby building to be out of the Sealeo's line of sight before going back to her feeding. She wouldn't be too hard to find again for anyone looking, but out of sight and out of mind for the bounce brigade, hopefully.
With that taken care of, Hiro's gaze turned back to-- aiwjeiao "MOM!" As his brain processed what the Sealeo was doing, he lept from Flippy's back over to the ground where she stood and rushed to help pull her away from the Sealeo, sputtering and half failing to suppress his urge to cackle laughing even as he floundered, "Are-?? you a-all right??"

“G-Good lord,” Mizuki sputtered back, reaching a hand up to feel through her hair. “I’m— yes I’m alright?” She wasn’t even sure why that was phrased as a question, but oh well at that point. “They are quite friendly creatures…” Friendly, very chaotically social creatures. At least the Sealeo seemed to back off a bit as it seemed neither human wanted to be the special ball of her dreams, and as a Spheal rolled over instead, she was quick to change gears bouncing that one instead.
Mizuki, meanwhile, shook her head a bit again. “Did you get the Wailmer off somewhere safe?” she asked not immediately seeing the creature and assuming as much now. The horde seemed quite distracted now for the most part so hopefully it had. “Maybe we … should head on now..” she considered aloud.

Finally getting himself under control, Hiro nodded. "Y-yeah, she's fine," he affirmed. As far as heading on... hrmm... He looked out to Moana, who looked very Done but patiently allowed some of the Sealeo to toss him around. "I... guess. I kinda want one if any are willing to leave the pod, though."
The Sealeo who had tried to bounce Mizuki lost her focus and accidentally let the Spheal fall as she looked up to Hiro. "Leo?" She looked over to the others, up to Moana as he bounced, and back up at Hiro curiously.
Oh??? "Yeah, he's mine. Guess they're making it hard to get a turn right now, huh?" She tilted her head. "If you wanted to come with me we could be pals and I could make sure you got a chance to play with him and all my other Pokemon a whole lot~ I work around here, too, so whenever your pod travels this way there'd be a good chance you could visit with them."
She thought this over, but then began to bark with delight. "Sea, sealeo~!"
"Sweet!" Hiro brought out a Great Ball and offered it to her. As it shook, he turned to Mizuki. "Do you think we should try to catch those Slakoth real quick, too? Make sure they make it out of here safe?"
