{Mission Details} Mission Name: Raiders of the Lost Snark Participants: Damian Moreau & Michael Carter Catching?: No Spawning: Ruin-style traps along with 3 waves of "ruin guardians" (evolved hordes), before 2 'mons appear that are the "bosses" and are Mega-Evo capable with full EMs. Word Counts attached to all spawns. Mission Details: Aleal, the Frozen City of the North.
Word has it there's some forgotten, long-lost ruins some distance away from the city, and within its walls are secrets that are thought to be passed down to successful explorers who make it through the area that can grant a new level of power between Pokemon and their owner, so long as their bond is strong and their connection is true.
There's just a few things to consider though: it's in Aleal, it's definitely going to be cold, and the ruins are loaded with all manner of traps to repel unworthy seekers of the knowledge its walls hold.
Insert Damian, who'd gotten word about the existence of these ruins, and not wanting to go through the place alone, calls on Mike to accompany him to look around the place. The question now remains: will they make it out alive with the knowledge that the ruins holds? Reward: Mega Knowledge for the idiots... if they survive He’d heard the rumors from somewhere that even up north, there were unexplored ruins that rivaled those that were found in Pahala and Faraday. The thing that really caught his interest was that the stories said that within the complex that had been found some distance from Aleal was that there were secrets within it—secrets that he’d heard about, but needed actual confirmation to prove their authenticity. The moment he’d found out that the secret within the ruins was ascending to a whole new level of power—a union shared between Pokémon and their owner—he knew that he just had to check it out. He had a suspicion that it was Mega Evolution, but needed to actually see it for himself to verify the damned facts. There was a bit of a problem though: he couldn’t go in the damned place alone, even if Aleal was in the middle of summer, the place was just as cold as a walk-in freezer set to the second-lowest temperature! The first person he’d ended up contacting was Mikey, and hopefully he’d answer the summons. All he’d said was to dress warmly, bring some rations, and have a full team of six on him, because one never knew what the fuck was going to happen when they arrived at the ruins—who could guess what manner of wild Pokémon and other nasty surprises were waiting for them when they got there? He'd already rented a snowmobile to take them out to the ruins, and had a map in one hand, a cup with creamy hot chocolate in the other, waiting for Michael to show up so that they could hightail it there, poke around the place, and get back out before evening fell. | I fell in love with your sin, your littlest sin

feel the light shining in the dark of the night | Mike had gotten a text earlier that week from Damian about some kind of trip thing in Aleal and area for some kind of weird ass Pokemon magic thing. Mike didn't really know what, Damian said he's explain later, but Mike was up for it anyway. So he was currently trekking the roads leading out of Aleal, looking for where Damian had parked the snowmobile. He was all bundled up, a string of miniaturized Pokeballs slung on his hips under the jacket. He had a rather large hiking backpack on his back, filled with supplied and, of course, food. He had in that bag what equated to three days worth of snacks for a single person, though they weren't expecting to be there much longer than a day. He also had the little necessities, like an ice pick, some rope, those heating pad things you could stick in your boots and gloves, water, extra socks. Regular expedition/hiking gear.
It was nearing Dusk when Mike arrived. He could see Damian leaning on the snowmobile with a cup of something hot in hand. Which was honestly a good idea, Mike hadn't thought of that. Then again, he was a Fire specialist, he had any number of Pokemon that could heat up some water for a hot drink. And he did bring drink mix for that, too. As he neared, Mike leaned down and scooped up a small handful of snow, making a snowball about the size of a golf ball, but still soft. He threw it at the back of Damian's head, laughing.
"Hey man. So, what are we doing again? Out here in the cold? You know I'm a fire guy, you're lucky I love you, else I might not have come out here. It was something to do with this weird stone thing, or something, was it?" Mike fished his keystone out of his pocket and held it up, though he didn't know what the hell it even was. That was why he came, because Damian did. Or, that was part of it. Mike leaned over Damian's shoulder, looking at the map he was holding. "Is that where we're going? Where is it?"

Damian was quietly finishing off the last of the contents of the warm paper cup in his hands (extra-thick warm chocolate with a shot of mint and extra whipped cream) when he felt something…wet suddenly hit him on the back of the head! Looking up, the sky didn’t show any signs of snow—at least until he heard Mikey’s familiar dulcet tones reverberate close to his ear.
“Geez, always the classy one,” he remarked in greeting, running a gloved hand through his wet hair, trying to straighten it out. “Took you long enough to get—here,” he began, finally getting to the task at hand. Never mind if it was almost dusk, Damian was hoping that they’d be able to get back before midnight—because even up north it was still going to be hella cold.
This was Aleal, after all.
It was lucky Damian had a simple pair of black earmuffs on, because his own ears suddenly burned when Mike had let slip those words—and a faint dusting of pink crossed his cheeks! Okay, Damian Alexandre. Not now. Not now, you jackass. Calm the fuck down… he thought to himself, taking a deep breath before returning to the matter at hand.
“To be honest… it does. Well, mostly. I need confirmation that my hunch is correct, and if it is… well, guess I’m not the only one learning how to use that,” he remarked to the Key Stone in Mike’s hand, before shuffling around his own smaller backpack and pulling out a carrying case; eventually flipping it open and showing Mike the trove of marbles within, along with the same rainbow-colored rock that had the pattern within it.
“I’ve… seen something with this happen. Back in Nue, where I came from. Actually, it’s thanks to someone I know what this is… partially. But I need to see the inside of those ruins to be absolutely certain of my hypothesis,” he continued, letting his best friend stare at his rather large collection of marbles. Some of them Damian had already identified by color, the others still proved to be elusive to him.
Turning his attention to the map, he then closed his carrying case before cramming it into his backpack and pointed to the circled point on the map. “Yep, we’re going there. And we better get moving. I don’t want to spend the night out in this frigid cold… you know what, I have an idea,” he remarked, before giving him the map to hold for a few moments and then reaching into one of his jacket’s pockets.
Once he’d found the containment unit he’d wanted, he then popped the Level Ball to full size, before flicking his wrist and watching as a red burst of light transform into Adam, his Charizard. At the same time, he then took the map back from Mike, before looking at his Pokémon companion.
“Adam,” he began, looking at the larger Charizard and rubbing his gloved hands across its neck, “Care to fly with us? You’ll be above, of course. When I speed up, just follow me…” he remarked, before the Charizard then took a sniff in Mike’s direction, because it had picked up a familiar scent lingering around the shorter man.
“Adam! Come on. Mike, let’s get going. I heard the news that there might be a snowstorm or two blowing in tonight. I don’t want to get stuck out there and spend a night in the ruins… let’s make this quick,” he ended, quickly slinging himself on the snowmobile and gesturing for Mike to get on behind him, before starting up the snowmobile and bracing himself as it roared to life, snapping a pair of goggles down over his eyes before heading off to the circled location on the map, which was several miles out from the city limits.

feel the light shining in the dark of the night | Mike grinned at Damian. "To be fair, you texted me late. And I had to travel here. After doing my Gym Leader stuff. You know." He sidled up beside Damian, rubbing his chilly fingers together. "Got any of that for me, or should I make us some more before we go? Why here, also? It's so damn cold." And of course, in all of this, Mike didn't notice anything off about Damian as he tried to warm his hands.
He listened to Damian's explanation, though it didn't explain much about what it is. Though he expected Damian to explore more as they went, or when they got there, or sometime in between. He nodded in understanding, and then marvelled at Damian's box of colored stones. Marbles? Things. "What are they though? What do they do?" He looked up from the stones curiously at Damian. "They're all different, except for the ones like I've got. That means something, doesn't it?" He nodded at the map. "How do you know these ruins are what you want?."
Then Damian popped a Charizard, and he grinned at it. It sniffed him, so he extended his hand to it. He chuckled at it, and went to pat it. "Hey bud, long time no see. Smell your little friend under here, huh?" He patted his coat affectionately. He hopped onto Damian's snowmobile, then, at Damian's call. "Ah, you don't have an extra pair of those, do you?" He shouted over the roar of the machine. He wasn't sure if Damian heard him, because next thing he knew they were off. He grabbed Damian around the waist and held on, burying his hooded face in Damian's shoulder to protect it from the wind.

As soon as Damian had gunned the snow mobile into life, the Charizard then took off into the air, rustling wings flapping as Adam began to climb into the sky before coming to a soaring height where he could still keep an eye on his partner and his partner’s friend.
At the same time, Damian kept one hand on the snow mobile’s handlebars, while the other was holding onto the map. Staring ahead into the powdery white, he kept to a straight course, following the route that had been traced out for him by the informant who’d told him about the ruins in the first place. After what felt like an eternity—but to be honest it was just a half-hour of traveling through the snow—he then pulled the ‘mobile to a skidding halt, before elbowing Mike slightly in the side.
His Charizard then came soaring down in a circle, landing several feet ahead of the two as he then began to get off the ‘mobile, slinging the smaller backpack up on his shoulders and then pointing to the entrance of the snow-covered ruins.
“Rosey, honestly. Sometimes you ask the most impertinent questions,” he began, snarking at Mike with the nickname that he reserved for whenever it was just the two of them talking. Thank Arceus he could still remember what Mike had asked him earlier, before they took off to their current location. The Charizard then lumbered over to where they stood, turning around so that his tail was facing the two humans.
“Come on, bro, let’s get warmed up before we get our asses inside there,” he remarked, finally popping the snow goggles up his head and taking off his gloves, before shoving them into one of his jacket’s pockets. As he began rubbing his hands, he then returned to the questions that were asked earlier.
“Okay, see here. It’s thanks to a friend of mine I know what those are. Remember the weird rainbow-colored marble you showed me earlier? I did some asking around, and I learned that it’s called a Key Stone. Obviously, I think it unlocks some kind of higher power. And no, it’s not magic…” he trailed off, rubbing his hands to warm them up.
“When… when I was back in the last region I came from, this friend of mine did something. I could swear his Charizard was just like Adam, all normal-colored an’ shit. But after a few moments, I was surprised to all fuck to see that his Charizard had… well, changed color. And its wings looked really strange. Like, instead of red-and-yellow, it’d turned black-and-blue? Something like that. Either way, it still… resembled a Charizard? But how can one explain the changed-color thing…” he trailed off, looking at the ruins that loomed not too far ahead of where they were.
“Either way, my informant told me that these ruins has the key. The secret to figuring out what that transformation I witnessed was. I know for a fact that my opposite number—the girl who rules the Underground—can do it already, but I have yet to exactly figure out how. And no, there’s no way in the ten circles of Hell I’m going to ask her how to do it. Rivals, remember?” he ended with a bit of a smirk on his face, before nudging Mike again, hoping he was paying attention.
“Anyway, you still got questions, or shall we begin going through the ruins? I mean, we don’t have much daylight left…” he remarked, his brow furrowed as he took a look at the horizon. The sun was already setting, painting the sky in fiery shades of red, yellow and orange—and on its edges, blues and purples were starting to come into play.
“Let’s make this quick. I don’t want to get stuck out here…”

feel the light shining in the dark of the night | It didn't take them too long to get there, all things considered. Damian seemed to know where he was going, which was reassuring, cause Mike had no idea where they were. His Charizard flew along beside them the whole time, probably making sure they could find their way through the snow storm. They slowed down and stopped, and Damian elbowed Mike gently in the side. He let the other man go, squinting through the snow at him.
He snorted. "Impertinent? Right, Dammykins," he snarked back. He followed Damian, though, and puled out one of the hot packs from his pocket. "Here, this works better." He tossed it to Damian, breaking one for himself and holding it between his hands to warm them. When they were warm enough, he stuck it inside his jacket, just over his heart. He nodded, holding the hot pack under his coat. He snorted in amusement at Damian. "No one mentioned magic, dork. But it does sound pretty profound." He nodded again, still listening to Damian describe the black and blue Charizard. That definitely wasn't normal, but Pokemon had different colors all the time.
He glanced over at the ruins behind them, barely visible through all the snow covering it and the snow falling and blowing around them. Mike chuckled at the mention of the Underground Gym Leader. He had yet to meet her, but Damian had told him a bit about her. "Yeah, I remember your rival, ya dork. And yeah, I'll probably have more questions along the way, but I get the feeling that they'll be answered while we're in there. Do we need anything else before we go in? I've a few Pokemon with Sunny Day if we need some light in there. Or, you know, don't all old ruins come with torches built in that burn eternally or something?"
He nodded again, following Damian into the ruins. He clutched the Key Stone, now that he knew the name, in his pocket, wondering what they'd find in there. As they went in, he let his Magmortar and purple Charmander out of their Pokeballs. Cause you never know, right?

“Hey, is that—” he began, catching sight of the familiar Magmortar that joined Mikey, along with the oddly-colored Charmander. As the familiar scent hit the air, his own Charizard then ambled over to its smaller incarnation before nudging it with the tip of its snout.
“Looks like Adam recognizes his family,” he continued with a grin, before taking the heat pack that Mike was handing him. “Thanks,” he muttered, tucking it under his jacket before taking the lead, his Charizard lumbering along his side. In no time flat, they reached the entrance of the snow-covered temple, and he then rolled his eyes at Mike’s quip about there being eternally-burning torches inside such structure like this.
“You watch way too much Indy, Mike,” he said, thankfully his best friend didn’t see the very pointed eyeroll that he’d done as he took the lead and stepped inside. While his Charizard’s tail offered a source of light… the entrance corridor itself was rather dark. Looking around, he then saw several brackets in the wall, where there were… strangely conveniently-placed torches.
“…somehow I have a feeling shit’s gonna go down,” he remarked, grabbing one of the torches and lighting it via the flames on Adam’s tail, before reaching for a second one and doing the same and eventually passing this one to Mike for him to hold. “Guess you were wrong on the part where there are eternally-burning torches in ancient, grody temples like this one,” he added with a chuckle, walking slightly ahead so that he could plan the route they were going to take.
Of course, all good things just come to an end. What Damian hadn’t realized was that he’d accidentally stepped on one of the tiles in the hallway, and before the two could even blink, his Charizard was roaring and trying to get airborne, but couldn’t due to the rather…cramped conditions of the corridor they were traversing.
And unfortunately, so did Damian. It had taken him all but a few moments to realize his foot was trying to walk on something that wasn’t there, and—
“OH, SHIT!” he all but yelled, flailing as the ground gave way beneath him, and then the sounds of loud, sibilant hissing caught his attention as he fell to the ground in an unceremonious heap.
“Ah, hell, you’ve got to be kidding me…” he groaned as he pulled himself up, before looking up at where his Charizard was now clumsily trying to flap its wings. “Adam! Warn Mikey not to take another step forward! I—” he trailed off, before one of the Arbok then let out an earsplitting Screech that stunned Damian, causing him to drop the torch out of surprise!
There were more serpents lurking in the shadows, and he could only groan as he tried to scramble away, before the second Arbok then let loose with a Glare—while one of the Seviper had unleashed a Venoshock attack, which landed a few inches from where Damian stood!
“Hell no. Definitely not!” he all but yelped, quickly reaching down his jacket and tossing one of the shrunken marbles skywards, watching as it transformed into his Espeon, Zarya. “Zee! Prep a Psychic attack, now! Aim it towards the Seviper!” he began, watching as the Psychic-type then took one look at the hissing snake, before firing off a rainbow-colored burst of energy right at it.

feel the light shining in the dark of the night | Mike chuckled and nodded at Damian's unfinished question. "Yep, it is." Mike's Charmander pushed its nose roughly up against Damian's Charizard's happily in greeting. Mike followed after Damian, his Charmander scrambling to keep up adorably with the much larger Charizard. Mike grinned as they walked in at Damian's jab about Indiana Jones. "Hey, those are good movies, man. And who knows maybe there's some truth to them. Suppose we'll find out, right?"
There were torches alright, but they weren't lit, much to Mike's disappointment. "How can shit not go down in creepy old ruins like these? The torches may not have been a thing, but creepy ruins are always filled with traps and shit." He took the torch that Damian had lit for him and followed after his much taller counterpart. And then said counterpart proved to be a doof. One of the tiles ended up to be a trap, and the floor started falling beneath them.
Mike scrambled for something to grab on to, but there really wasn't much. That was probably part of the design, to be fair. He just about fell on top of Damian, and his Charmander fell on top of him, landing with a heavy thud and a loud "OOF." He didn't notice the hissing sound at first, not in any real way. He just acquainted it with the fact the floor just fell out from underneath them and there was still rocks and dirt falling into their pit thing. If he hadn't been waling so close to Damian he wouldn't have likely fallen in here, but he'd also instinctively reached out when he noticed him falling to try to catch him. Didn't work so well.
He righted himself, starting when he heard the Arbok screech. "Don't worry man, I'm not going anywhere. Unless you have a way to get us out of here? Preferably before we become snake food? Indy was right, see?" He pointed at the large group of snake pokemon, as if to prove a point. Fortunately, Mike's Magmortar was still at the top, having been lagging behind the group a little bit. And then the snakes spit poison at them. "Attack? Sounds like a plan." Mike thought quickly; there wasn't a ton of room in here and he didn't feel like accidentally lighting them all on fire, so he'd have to be a little careful.
"Mag, fire off a will-o-wisp down here! Damian, my little charizard will protect your guys from it, so don't worry about that." The Magmortar shot off little balls of fire into the pit, aiming for the snakes, but one or two missed. The ones that strayed, Mike's charmander jumped in front of if they were going for Damian's pokemon. They wouldn't hurt it at all, but they could hurt the espeon. "Ok, uhh, Solar Beam that corner mag!" Mike Pointed to a corner of the room where he knew there were snakes, he could see them, but wouldn't hurt any friendly Pokemon on accident.

His warning came a little too late—because not only had Mike come crashing down into the pit, he could practically hear the ironic laughter—if his companion was laughing. “Sheesh, I’m sorry, I wasn’t watching where the hell I was going,” he almost growled, before he remembered that the two Arbok were now glowering at him in a very threatening manner.
No sooner did he blink, the Psychic attack from his Espeon flew forward, before smacking the first Arbok right in the face! In retaliation, it let out another Screech, momentarily stunning the Espeon—before he could blink, he saw little balls of flame dancing around them, and had half a mind to remark to be bloody careful, because if the snakes didn’t go up in flames, they would!
“What was that supposed to achie—” he began, suddenly cut off by what the Magmortar was about to do, when he’d heard the command for that attack. While thankfully, the pink Charmander was there to bounce the balls of fire off its unusually-colored skin (just in case they got involved in a case of ‘friendly fire’) he had the better part of a few moments to blurt out, “Mike, are you sure you wanna use your So—” before a brilliant explosion of light cut him off.
It had been so sudden, he didn’t even have time to blink! Wondering what force had fired off such a blinding attack, he then began to stagger around, blindly trying to find his way forward—and eventually crashing backwards into Mike, sending them both toppling to the dirt floor!
“Ugh, ow,” he groaned, trying to blink the afterimage of the Solar Beam attack that had burned into his field of vision away. Shaking his head, as blinking didn’t seem to be effective, he knew that half the snakes would’ve been stunned by that attack—if not entirely wiped out.
“Zarya! Use your Shadow Ball! Fire it forward, I know you can tell where they are! Alternate that with Psychic and Psyshock when you need to!” he continued, rubbing both his hands against his eyelids, trying to restore them back to some semblance of working order.
With a quivering tip-off from its forked tail, the Espeon then took a deep breath, before gathering a lump of dark energy and firing it forward—before being followed by a rainbow-colored lump of energy not too long afterwards. While the Psychic-type kept herself busy with the remaining snakes in the pit, Damian kept on rubbing his eyes, before closing them and taking a deep breath—and pressing the palm of his hands deeper into them.
Did it really sting that bad?
It was with a start he realized that his Charizard was still awkwardly airborne, before he got another idea. “Adam! Help Zarya out and clear the snakes from the pit! Use your Flamethrower attack, provide Zee some covering fire!” he continued, still trying to restore his field of vision—it had been royally messed up because of the powerful Grass-type attack that had gone off in such a cramped space.
A good fifteen minutes passed before the afterimage had somewhat faded from his retinas, and he deemed it safe to open his eyes again. Thankfully, with his Espeon taking the lead, the snakes that were threatening to take a bite out of him had been knocked out by the unusual tag-team, and the Espeon then sauntered back to where her owner stood, rubbing up against his leg.
“Oh, right. Thanks for the save, Zee,” he remarked, recalling the Eeveelution back into her containment unit, before whistling upwards at the airborne Charizard.
“Adam! Can you help us get out of here? At least, up until over there?” he continued, pointing out to the top of the “corridor” before it had imploded unceremoniously on them.
Of course, he still hadn’t registered the fact that he’d landed literally on top of Mike, and that they were in a rather unusual position at that moment in time.
