Sam had been...faintly, dissapointed, when Dasha called her up a few days ago asking if a friend of hers could come along, but at the same time she didn't want to be. As short as it had been, Kai had talked to her about getting her feelings about Dasha sorted out when they were drinking together, and as much as she assured herself she wanted to just be friends with Dasha, it still felt just...Ugh. She didn't even know how to put it, like a third wheel had just been tossed onto the middle of her bike and even if it still WORKED she had to just get used to it...
Not only that but she did wanna be close to Dasha in her own way, and learning more about her friends and even her family was a nice little benefit. Heck she said something about them maybe dropping by her brother's place but that was yet to be confirmed.
No this...this was a good thing. Dressed in a warm coat for the chilly night air, she was waiting on one of the bridges between the Pahalan platforms like she'd arranged to with Dasha, looking up and down both ways to check for her iconic silver hair. Maybe her friend'd be pretty cool...Dasha was cool and with how she acted around the office, she was either just very professional, or particular about the company she kept, and given Kai was pretty cool in her books, this mysterious Alex was shaping up to be someone Sam would probably wanna know.

Once the baby had been dropped off, Dasha and Alex had headed to meet up. Dasha… may have been a little more emotional than she wanted to admit to being due to Nikki’s reactions, but she did her best to sober up and ensure herself that she would have a good time that night. All would be well, she promised herself. Plus, Sam would get to meet Alex, and get a little closer to her fam as far as she saw it so.. yeah this was good. Very good.
She’d actually catch sight of Sam first, and a hand shot up in a wave. “Sam, over here!” Dasha called even as she continued to head that way. Once they were close enough, she offered a warm smile. “Happy early New Year?" She smiled a little before making a gesture. " Sam, this is my sibling Alex, Alex this is my friend from work Sam,” she smiled as warmly as she could against the cool air.
Alex was... still vaguely bitter about this mysterious Sam who she felt had been largely replacing what little role she still held in Dasha's life. It wasn't Sam's fault that Dasha was so much stronger and more competent than Alex that it was almost stupid, or that being unable to do the main thing she'd worked all her life to do made her feel so useless. It wasn't Sam's fault that Alex's other attempts at finding a job had been short-lived, one part-time position held down for all of a month before getting fired over punching a rude customer. It wasn't Sam's fault Alex's training ambitions had taken a backseat to her general lethargy lately ("lately") or that she'd kind of fallen into the role of being damn near Dasha's housewife, and not even a good one, occasionally cooking and keeping Dasha's unholy amount of Stuff even vaguely organized as much so it didn't drive Alex as crazy in such a cramped space as anything.
But... Ya know, Sam was an easy target for those frustrated feelings. Fortunately, though, Alex did recognize this, and was intending to do her best to fight that urge down this evening. Especially given Dasha was finally inviting her along, and if this went well-- not that her hopes were too high, but she had to have some hope for Dasha's taste in friends-- maybe it'd give Alex double the social life potential instead of half. She... had started trying to get out a little more outside of just running errands and drinking. Not a lot of progress quite yet but... she signed up for some aura user group thing so maybe that'd be... something.
Right, right, for now just focus on tonight.
The way Dasha talked, Alex got the impression Sam was... pretty girl, so she tried to mentally prepare herself for that, psyche herself up. There was a lot of stuff that made her groan most of the time but could be nice on occasion, so she'd spent all day yesterday telling herself how long it had been and convincing herself being girly and indulgent would be a fun way to spend New Year's.
It... about half worked? There was still kind of a sense of dread that things would go overboard, but she did succeed in getting herself into a bit girlier mindset than usual, reflected in her attire. A low cut black-trimmed white tank top that showed just a bit of midriff, fairly short cut-off jean shorts, hair pulled into a high ponytail and lightly curled, over-the-knee black socks and white boots with just a bit of heel, and even a light touch of makeup and some accessories: she felt pretty damn cute. Her thighs and midriff were both likely to be pissed by the end of the night, but she had a light black jacket she could either take off indoors or zip up outdoors, and told herself a winter night in Pahala couldn't be too bad compared to Era. Nevermind that Sinclair's climate control might have been spoiling her for almost a year.
Mentally, she was.... still a bit spacey and tired, but she managed a smile and a vague wave as Dasha introduced them. "Hey." Despite her appearance, her voice remained in her normal low-ish androgynous range out of habit.
... Man she was already vague annoyed that Sam was apparently as tall as Dasha, heh.

Despite Dasha's company, Sam hadn't made too big an effort today. It was more about keeping warm and enjoying herself, so with a puffy dark red coat and some thermal pants, she was happy enough being warm rather than fashionable, topping it off with a woolly hat, and some thicker boots. She even had woolly mittens that let her use touch screens through them, but they were currently in her pockets since it wasn't too chilly at the moment. In her mind, while she hadn't been to Pahalla much, she imagined it would be freezing. That chilly ocean breeze blowing in so late at night? Ugh. She was honestly a little alarmed taking in what Alex was wearing...but she did have a coat, so she'd probably be fine. Maybe she was from Sinnoh and just used to the cold or something, or even just Ale-
Oh. Okay. They were siblings? Sam...didn't really see the resemblance, but it told her Alex was from Era at least. Smiling wide at both of them, trying to make a good impression, she thought about introducing herself with a bit of a playful tone, but recalling how her over-zealousness had affected Keone just a week or so ago...
"Er...Hey. I'm Sam. Dasha hasn't really told me too much about you but...should be a fun night getting to know eachother." She quirked her lips up on one side, offering her hand to Alex. She was...faintly sure Dasha had referred to them as a guy over the phone? Nah, she must have misheard...
Dasha smiled a little at both of them. “Alex was an Eran knight~” she grinned a little. “I learned my sword skills from her.” Ah, yeah, that was a bit of pride welling up in her voice. Her Interpol training had pushed her to learn less serrated weapons, but the sword would always be her go to, her favorite. She may have… already said quite a bit about Sam to Alex and decided against rehashing it right then in favor of just leaving that in the air for a second.
Her phone alarm buzzed, and Dasha paused to check it. Alright, cool, they were doing well on time. Maybe they even had time to find one of those open balconies above a restaurant or bar to watch off of too. Blue eyes raised and flickered around briefly. “We should probably look for a good viewing space before they’re all filled— unless either of you have anything specific to do first?” She.. hadn’t planned much herself aside from actually watching said fireworks but wouldn’t turn down a brief drink at one of the bars if it secured them a spot on the roof or something of that nature.

Dasha hadn't said much about her? Alex somehow managed to maintain their same outward chill even as a wave of bitter feelings welled up. Funny, I've heard plenty about you.. She shook her hand regardless, a bit brief but otherwise unnoteworthy; the bitterness that made her want to squeeze tighter was countered by the fact that she didn't actually feel like giving a fuck. Incidentally, she was just.. gonna try to tell herself that Sam's lack of knowledge was because Dasha just didn't talk to Sam as much in genera--
Or?? Maybe that wasn't as flimsy an excuse as she'd thought? As Dasha started bragging about her, the few feelings of Dash what the hell I could say that myself were overwhelmed and drowned out by her sense of pride. "Fuck yeah." Her tone was a bit quiet and rough, but her grin was bright. "Dashie went and got better 'n me with a longsword, but I can prolly still take 'er with a broadsword~"
As Dasha checked her phone and asked about plans, she shrugged. "Huh, guess I coulda bought some drinks when I was at the store earlier, nn?" Eh, they they'd have been carrying it around. Oh well. "Wouldn't mind grabbin' some food and/or booze, though if you guys wanted to do anything else I'm down." There.. was gonna be booze right? She hadn't signed up for some crazy sober New Year's Eve thing had she?

Sam gave Alex a firm handshake, something between a guy at the office and...well her brain said 'actual friend' but that essentially equated to 'Dasha' So...it was a mid Josh Dasha handshake. Yeah that somehow made sense in her head. Her eyes flickered between them, swiftly recalling the sword Dasha used around the office, chuckling faintly at the image of her actually pulling that on a crook or anything of the sort. They'd probably crap themselves before she actually needed to use it...ya know unless they were immortal.
"Well it's a pleasure to meet the gal that made Dash such a badass.~" With a light smirk she dipped her head and flourished her arms in a playfully fancy bow before flicking her head back up again. At the mention of getting some things, Sam checked her own phone and blew out a breath of air. "Er...we got time. I could certainly use some food even if it's just a few cheap hot dogs or something..." She omitted the fact that she wanted food because if she was stuffing her face she couldn't think about finding someone for the midnight tradition. Yup. Hot dogs were better than kisses anyway.

Hmmmm, hearing it from both of them, food and drink did sound pretty good. “I looked up a couple of bars and restaurants whose rooftops are open,” she commented flipping to her map of that. “Rudy and Paco’s seems to have the best rating?” Of course, if there was a line out the front door, they could choose another restaurant, but this one even had rooftop seating facing the water from the pictures anyways. She wasn’t exactly sure what ‘real island food’ that was supposedly their menu, especially since Pahala wasn’t an island, but whatever.
If they were good with that, she’d start that direction, just up the street again. There seemed… to be a surprising number of people on the street, actually? She didn’t read anywhere that Pahala was doing any sort of festivities other than the fireworks, so she guessed these were just the locals out and about? “Pahala seems pretty lively.”

The word 'gal' briefly threw Alex, but... Ah, yeah. Yeah she guessed. That probably wasn't even directly a gender thing so much as not being used to he word in general. Like... in the vein that 'girl', 'chick', 'dude', 'guy', etc were fine but 'fella' probably would've thrown her even at her manliest, heh. So a brief flicker of 'wha?', but all in all just 'oh she talks kind of weird I guess' leaving Alex curious to see if that was an overall trend or a one-off thing through the night.
Contrasting that, the bow actually did bother her. Her mouth opened, but then closed as she bit her tongue. No, no, don't be weird in front of Dasha's new bestie. Don't-- ..SNRRK. "Dunno, the cheap ones aren't usually worth it," she mumbled quietly. That was.. probably not gonna be as obvious a dirty joke as it was in her head, but that was fine.
Though on that note? When she said booze she was thinking pick some up and go somewhere else, so... "If we're gonna stay at a bar, we should probably look for a pretty private place to sit, at least, unless we want drunk dudes spouting bad pickup lines all night." And, you know, possibly working on Alex but she didn't wanna admit that out loud.
... That thing was still kind of bothering her though actually so maybe she could just... kind of play it off? "Speaking of excessive flattery though? Uh.. Sam? Not really... expectin' ya to do it again tonight or anything but, just for future reference.." Ugh this felt so unnatural and clunky in trying to make it sound downplayed but whatever. "Don't bow to me? Just..."
Yeah okay fuck this careful wording crap. She huffed, and the hesitation left her voice for something more blunt. "I'm a knight." Head briefly tilted to Dasha, she went on, "She's the lady; I'm her vassal. The only reason I should be standing over anyone is if my blade is at their throat." ... Well that went darker than intended but okay. Good first impressions were always Alex's specialty obviously.

The dirty joke from Alex flew over Sam's head, earning little more than a curious look before her brain assumed something else. "Eh, yeah...suppose you do sorta pay for it the next day huh?" She offered a light smirk before turning her eyes back to Dasha, she seemed more prepared than even she was already looking up a good place, her own idea had been to just sit along one of the piers facing the fireworks or something so this was much better. "That sounds good but...yeah. We should probably get a booth if its a bar...glad to see none of us want some pricks trying to hit on us for midnight.~"
Just about ready to get moving, Sam stopped at Alex's words...o..kay...? Weren't they siblings? She supposed Alex didn't really hold any family resemblance to Dasha...and if she really thought about it Era was REALLY behind the times so maybe this was some...illegitimate daughter put to use situation? Least they had female knights. That was progress. "Well...I think you deserved at least one bow for keeping an eye on Dasha all these years, but I'll avoid it in the future." She turned her eyes to Dasha with a light nod. "Wanna lead the way?"

Hmmmmmm…. Hopefully they could find a private place to sit. She of all people did not want to be hit on on New Years despite the high propensity of it just by going out, apparently. Ugh and— Alex??? Dasha… got it, yeah, but uh… Uh??? She didn’t even really know any other way Alex could have said it, but it still felt awkward and just??? Alex???? Alex what— that… Ok, she got that but ??? Alex really?
Dasha’s eyes flicked between Alex and Sam unable to stay on either. SAM— Why was… why were her features so warm and why did she felt so wonky and— Dasha found a hand reaching up to her lips only to stop as she refused to ruin her makeup in any form or fashion. This was a terrible idea; what had she been thinking. That two people who are important to me would be great to spend New Years with— Yes, apparently.
She was… she was going to try very hard to switch gears here and not dwell. “It’s just up the street from where we are according to this map,” she went on managing to keep her voice even and cool enough even if she might have been walking a little faster now.

I think you deserved at least one bow for keeping an eye on Dasha all these years. ....... Alex was... very glad that Sam chose that moment to turn away, and that Dasha was already leading the way, because...?? Something about those words moved her on a spiritual level, and flustered her to her core. She was.. actually.. okay with that? Maybe more than okay. Maybe kind of starved for a sense of validation that she was actually of use especially to Dasha if she let herself thing about it but shush.
B-but ah... Walking behind them, she asked, "What kinda food does this place have again? I think I recognize the name but.." At least her voice came out pretty even, if slightly higher than usual. Hopefully that was only obvious to her own ears, and hopefully she'd finish fighting down this blush before they looked back at her again.

Sam had been focused on Dasha when her words settled in but...she could not gauge that reaction at all. Was she flustered in a good way? Had she said something wrong? As if her nerves weren't high enough and strung enough already...with a slow breath through her nose she tried to calm down, turning eyes to Alex to offer them a brief smile before realizing she'd reacted a bit oddly too and just...turning to look ahead as they got moving. Really? She'd meant to compliment the two of them in one blow there but that was a weirder, or more powerful reaction than she'd expected.
"Er...I don't get down here much but I think I saw the brand name in Sinclair. Think they focus on chinese starter stuff? Ya know small things you can just drop on a plate. Prawn toast, shu-mais...though being honest I could totally be mixing this up with another place in my head. Dasha?"
Post by Dasha Laska on Jan 14, 2018 11:05:08 GMT -8
Somehow in her own … feeling space… Dasha had missed a lot of the nervousness of both Alex and Sam. She did grasp the shift in pitch and maybe even Sam’s hesitation, but it wouldn’t click for a while what it actually meant. “Uhm,” What food did they serve again? How did she forget this kind of stuff?
As Sam started speaking, however, it clicked again. “Ah, yeah they do those box-lunch catering sets,” she could see it on the lunch special. “But, their dinner menu has a lot more: different kinds of big rice, meat, and veggie dishes that can be split across smaller plates and shared.” It had been a while since she’d considered eating at something like this but with three people each ordering a dish or two, it’d make for something of a buffet right? And it was New Years and all. Heh. “They have a really high rating so I’m sure it has to be good.” Had she said that already? She couldn’t remember now.
Post by Nikolai Laska on Jan 24, 2018 20:48:23 GMT -8
"Ah.." Alex listened as all the food was described and... found it sounded 'good' but not especially appetizing right now? Then again, when she tried to think of what did sound appealing, her brain answered 'booze' so... heh. She supposed she'd been more thinking of the concept of eating than the actual details of it, at least on some level. She was sure they'd have something nice though.
Should she... try to make small talk? Hey Sam, how'd you guys meet? Alex knew the answer to that. So Sam, what are you into? She knew some of that already too. Ugh... She was still kind of flustered from before and her mouth refused to open until it found something to say that she was convinced wouldn't make her sound like a total dumbass, so she'd probably follow the whole trip to the restaurant in silence if no one prompted her or brought up something interesting enough to comment on.
