It’s almost like the ‘Garden’ of Veria? Looking over the vast valley that stretched from Alterna and out across as far as her eyes could see, the eyes of Sophie Sequoia grew a little bit misty as she looked at this simple wonder and smiled gently. The city of Alterna circling a vast stretch of water as a blue lake wrapped around its other end, the eastern side of the landscape looked as if man and nature were engaged in a waltz between the two of them as greenery grew thicker and thicker until enshrouding the bases of distant mountains. It was quite the sight to behold, but entirely not the reason that this young lady had come.
The Aquasphere… The blue eyes of the beauty focusing on the dome of water that stood as a man-made marvel in Alterna, Sophie smirked as she recalled her first visit to the mix of water-bound zoo and adoption agency. Remembering the time when she had only just arrived in Veria and had visited the place with the adorably awkward Mr Indigo, the memory of her enjoyment of that time left Miss Sequoia tempted to invite the auburn boy for a ‘sequel’ to that adventure, but if she did it would have to wait for another day.
It was a great day, hopefully this one will be too? Shaking her head and trying to focus herself on the work she had to do today, Sophie set off down the slope from which she had been surveying the scene and into the valley that she had been admiring. Noting the way that the city of Aleal and its Aquasphere seemed to mingle with the environment so wonderfully, todays little study had much to do with that mix of characteristics in a more ‘individual’ sense. Knowing that more than a few monsters within the massive aquarium tended to possess rather uncommon abilities, the scholar wanted to research how this effort toward aquatic harmony had affected other forms of life?

A Delibird?! Blinking in surprise as she saw something red and feathery lurch out of the knee high grass a few front of her and do an acrobatic pirouette, while Sophie had been hoping to find something unique as she scoured the grasslands, this was certainly not what she had in mind! A Pokémon that tended to nest around chilly mountain peaks apparently hopping around the grass like it was having the time of its life certainly seemed to fit the remit of unusual, but for some reason Sophie felt more compelled to get out her camera than a Pokéball. Is it trying to dance or something? Left staring at the rusty coloured bird as it leapt around like it was performing some bizarre form of bird ballet, Miss Sequoia wondered if she was watching some as yet undocumented mating dance or if the creature was simply insane and as the bird finally spotted its audience the two of them were left simply looking into one another’s eyes in an almost painfully awkward series of seconds before finally something broke the tension between them.
“W-Whoa!” All of a sudden something blue seeming to interrupt the discomforting delay as a feisty little feline found it had the perfect distraction in order to launch its attack, after a moment of relief that the uneasy staring contest had been brought to an end, now Sophie found herself beaten eaten away by yet another awkward feeling. The attacking Shinx biting at the bird with fangs that crackled like thunder, the act made the insides of Miss Sequoia feel like they were made of ice as she looked on, watching the strange bird being hunted by what was for all intents and purposes a perfect predator for it.
This is how Pokémon act in the wild… It feels heartless but you should let nature take its course! Squeezing her fingers into her palms as her hands began to shake, while every fibre of the femme’s being told her that she need to act and stop this, she spoke to herself to try and coerce herself into a more rational outlook. Having developed something of a tendency to leap into these kinds of situations and interfere with what many scientific minds might have called a simple act of nature, Sophie tried all that she could to balance both her sense of compassion and the more rational parts of her mind, but it was a difficult ask.
The act made almost impossible as the bird began to wail desperately as it scurried toward her, once again Miss Sequoia found herself locked in a difficult staring contest with this Delibird, who seemed to be showing her the most puppy-like pair of peepers that it could manage as it desperately appeared to plead for help. “Science isn’t always kind, but that doesn’t mean we shouldn’t be!” Steeling her resolve as she found her resistance to intervene being melted away by the pathetic gaze of the creature upon her, after shaking her head and shouting out in defiance of what was going on, Sophie snapped her arm forward and sent a Pokéball spinning into the path of the pursuing cat.
“Lightning is no problem for you, is it Boss?” The sphere splitting apart and seeming to stun the Shinx for a second, from a wake of light someone that Sophie knew would stand up for the downtrodden stepped forward and narrowed his eyes beneath the skull mask that he wore. Seems you’ve only gotten more swagger as you’ve grown up… Staring at the shinx despite his smaller stature and winding his club carrying arm around, a little Cubone with a big attitude broke onto the scene turned his head from one side to another, making Miss Sequoia smile with the manner in which he carried himself. Remembering when she had found this little fellow protecting two of his siblings, the pink haired girl was glad she had decided to finally try Boss in the field.
The cat seeming confused for a second before deciding that somehow its dinnertime had suddenly doubled in volume, the Shinx seemed to shake its head at the new target before snarling, clearly having never seemed to have encountered the species known as Cubone before. This fact perhaps contributing to the failure of the feline more than any other, after snarling and setting about ending the fight quickly, the air seemed to crackle with energy before the mighty sound of sound of thunder split the air.
A blast of lightning seeming to be summoned by the hunter that it sent surging all around it, seemingly on instinct Boss seemed to step in the path of the blast to protect the downed Delibird, taking the brunt of the attack into his body and being left… Perfectly fine? Electricity seeming to course through the form of the Cubone before passing harmlessly into the earth, as if to point out the lack of effect it had the skull sporting reptile gave a little yawn before launching into its own attack.
Not even needing Sophie to give it any kind of order and certainly not delivering any kind of move that had the dazzling display of the discharge that he had just shrugged off, Boss simply drew his arm back like a star pitcher and sent the white club he carried spinning forward like a loose wheel. Sophie only able to watch with an awed silence as the bone that was thrown proved itself more than enough to make the moggy moan, the weapon of the mud-coloured fighter smashed into the skull with a crack that might have rivalled its electrical attack though with far more apparent result. The Shinx yelping as it found itself being slugged in the face by something that sent it rolling back several feet in the grass, Miss Sequoia was certainly coloured impressed by the performance of her partner as he seemed to fell the predator with a single stroke. However, Boss looked to be far from done.
What is he…? The young woman watching with fascination as her reptilian ally seemed to turn on the spot after catching his club and stepped over to the wounded Delibird, after tapping his chin a few times Boss seemed to begin talking to the red flyer. They’re chatting? Seeming to murmur intelligible sounds from beneath the skull he wore and make gestures with his paws and bone, as Miss Sequoia watched the two Pokémon seemed to be carrying out a conversation that she had little hope of grasping. Simply being left to watch as they swapped grunts and chirps before the Cubone patted the head of the bird he had rescued and walked back over to his trainer with a new friend seemingly in tow.
“Hm?” Boss marching right up to the feet of Sophie before wagging his paw to beckon her down, after the woman had bent at her knees and stooped to bring her face a little bit closer to her cohort, he began to talk to her now in that same mix of grunts and gestures. “You… Are you saying this bird is your friend now?” The brow of Miss Sequoia arching as she tried to figure out what her Cubone was trying to tell her, after seeing the reptile seem to point to himself and then the Delibird then make a very apparent display of shaking its hand, the young professor felt like she might just understand some of what he was saying. Her guess apparently proving to be correct as Boss nodded in affirmation, Sophie’s partner then seemed to make a motion to make this new friendship a lasting one as he jabbed at the Pokéballs on his belt with his club.
“Uhhhh, if you say it’s OK with it, why not, I guess?” The young woman still somewhat bewildered by the behaviour that Boss was exhibiting but certainly not about to pass up on the chance to see how adding a Delibird to Boss’s little gang would play out, after a slow nod she removed a fresh ball from her Pocket and held it out to the bird, hoping that the understanding she had been given proved to be a correct one…

“What’s this?” The Delibird having been swallowed up by the Pokeball she had offered it, just as Sophie made to move on from the spot she had been she spied something glittering in the grass where the new member of her team had been standing. Had the bird been carrying this or is it just a coincidence? Lifting up the round, smooth stone that had caught her eye and studying it carefully, the professor noticed that it seemed to give off a strange shimmer as she stared at it. Looking as if some kind of light source was washing over it and making it glisten before becoming dull again for a second or two, it appeared as though the stone was being turned over or something even when kept stationary and was rather an odd occurrence in of itself.
It’s almost like it’s gathering and giving off energy or something? The researcher unsure of exactly where it had come from but not about to pass up such a mysterious find, after scrutinizing the item for a few more seconds Miss Sequoua pushed it into one of her pockets and straightened up, intent on delving deeper into this grassy realm. Boss seeming happy to be out of his Pokéball and tagging along beside her, Sophie tried not to giggle as he swatted away grass that seemed almost deep enough to swallow him whole with his club, but was given little time to enjoy the view for too long as she soon came across her next growling ‘obstacle’.
A second snarling stalker of the green landscape seeming to leap forward with much the same intentions toward the Cubone as the Shinx before it, the almost streamlined shape and crackling fur of the creature quickly gave Sophie a clue as the identity of this Pokémon almost immediately. Another electric type? Recognising this rowdy canid as an Electrike, the name alone was more than enough to clue one in as to the nature of the latest beast to cross the path of Miss Sequoia. This in many ways rather similar to the cat they had bested in the minutes before though decidedly more wolf-like in both appearance and tendency, the shocks that this supercharged hunter could deliver were no joke but as it grumbled a few dozen feet away, the scholar seemed more deeply invested in her speculations than the fight that was about to unfold.
I suppose it makes a certain kind of sense, if the area has been developed to benefit water types most of all, those who can defend against or prey on them might see a sudden increase in success? The professor seeming far more interested in the ecological implications of her finds so far than the threat that a crackling cub like this could pose, almost without seeming to need to be told Boss seemed to step forward ready for a fight, patting his club into his paw softly in an almost relaxed fashion. Both the trainer and her partner appearing to not take their enemy terribly seriously, whether the Electrike picked up on this fact is anyone’s guess but it certainly did seem to be compelled to show off just how much of a threat it could be. Fur of pulsing pup seeming to quiver as jagged bolts of energy began to dart around its form, with a howl of fury the feisty little wolf leapt forwards with a fearsome fleetness of its feet and slammed straight into the body of Boss.
It’s possible that their electrical dominance has also led them to be limited in the approaches they take to encounters? Sophie seeming to silently size up the situation as her cubone was knocked flat onto his back by the sheer pace of the attack, once again his body seemed to surge with electrical energy and once again result seemed to mimic the encounter with the Shinx earlier. The lightning strike that the thunderous little wolf had imparted seeming to do little above tickling Boss before seeming to fizzle out into the ground harmlessly, after shaking his head and straightening the skull that wrapped around it, the beauty’s battler was back on his feet and lining up his own bone-based response as the crackling canid looked stunned at the lack of success it had found.
They definitely seem to have become rather set in their ways? Shaking her head from side to side as she observed a distinctly lacking tactical imagination in the creature before her, as the club of her Cubone whizzed through the air and slammed into the side of the Elektrike’s snout, Miss Sequoia couldn’t help but feel a little bit disappointed by the lack of challenge it had presented.
Let's see if I can fix those habits, shall we? Deciding that she might want to test to see if she could provide the right kind of training to make up for what this wild wee wolf might be lacking, with a flick of her wrist Sophie sent a sphere spinning toward the dog as it drooped toward the ground. Perhaps the part of her that was once a trainer wanting to see the best brought out in any Pokémon, as she watched the ball wrap around the jagged shape of her almost feeble foe, the professor hoped that what she came across next might prove a little bit more challenging to her…
A wild Elektrike Appeared! Sophie used Cubone!

The electric trend continues, I see… Taking something of a stealthier approach to things as the grass had begun to sprout rather lengthy patches of greenery for her to tuck herself behind, Miss Sequoia crouched and behind a tuft of tall green blades as she eyed something that was rather familiar to her. A hooved beast with a jagged horn and white flashes on its body to match tugging at pieces of greenery with its teeth and then chewing on them, while the subtle differences in the pattern of its coat told the professor that this wasn’t the Blitzle she kept named Bolt, it certainly made for a passable doppleganger. At least this one seems a little bit less belligerent than the beasts before… Happy to see a herbivore grazing, Sophie turned away from the eating equine and added a sighting to the notes she was keeping on her holographic phone. Boss seeming to enjoy this verdant environment beside her, as the researcher peeked at the monochrome horse again the skull-bearing reptile was fishing through the undergrowth to pluck out bugs which she seemed to delight in devouring. Food likely a lot scarcer in the arid dusty and rock filled environments that Cubone tended to live, to a Pokémon that was used to scrounging up small meals from under rocks and dead plants, this must have seemed like something of an all you can eat buffet to the club carrying little critter. It was a shame then that the peace was to be suddenly broken. REEEEEEE-HEEE-HEE-HEE-HEE-HEE-HEE!? Sophie having turned her attention back to her wrist-mounted computer to add a few more observations to it, the quiet of an early spring afternoon was suddenly broken as a high and stammering cry suddenly called for the attention of everything in the environment. What the?! The researcher spinning herself back around as the creature she had been studying cried out in panic, Boss jolted jumped up on the shoulder of his trainer to get a better look at what was making such a commotion. The trigger that had made the Zebra wail immediately obvious as the Blitzle began to gallop away from something snapping at its heels, it appeared that a Poochyena had taken a similar cue to Sophie and used the depth of the grass to its advantage before attempting an ambush of a grazing meal. Here we go again… Rather ambitious in its attempt given it was only half the size of the quarry it sought, the carnivore seemed undeterred by this difference or the desire of the horse to flee the fight as it gnashed at the hind legs of the Blitzle to try and slow it down, whilst Sophie simply sighed as once again she was presented with the question of whether to let nature take its course again. Before she had the opportunity to decide, however, it seemed that her partner had already decided to act. “B-Boss!” Calling out in surprise as the shape on her shoulder shot forward and sent his bone club whirring toward the pair, Sophie blinked for a second and wondered which of the duo were gonna be hit by the spinning strike. Did he mean to do that? The white weapon of her warrior whirling and seeming to find some kind of impossible gap between the pair to catch the attention of the Poochyena without putting of the hot footed horse, the hairs on the back of Miss Sequoia’s neck stood on end as she was left in awe at the throw. Unsure of whether such a near miss was the intention of her partner or not but all the same impressed he could throw with such accuracy and assurance at two sprinting targets, it appeared that the large amount of esteem with which Boss tended to carry himself wasn’t entirely undeserved. “Looks like we’re involved now!” Springing up from her hiding spot at the sound of the hunter howling angrily at the interruption, as Boss landed in the grass and stuck a paw in the air to catch the boomerang he had thrown, Sophie could see the Poochyena was not about to let this intervention pass. Perhaps seeing the smaller body of Boss as something of an easier meal than the Blitzle but Sophie sensing there was no small degree of revenge in the intention of their fanged foe, with a curled lip and looking like spikes that ran all the way up its back, this fierce little fighter dashed toward the Cubone and his trainer looking to cause some damage. Wow! It seems a fast learner! The dog seemingly disadvantaged by the distance as it charged as Boss, as the weapon wielding warrior sent his club across the grass that separated them, this time around it was their enemy that impressed the professor as it snatched the bone out of mid-air like a dog playing fetch. Apparently now wary of the bone having had it pass so close to its nose in the moments before, the Poochyena skidded to a halt with the tough shaft between its teeth and almost seemed to gloat with its growl, before spitting the item into the grass to rob the Cubone of his signature armament. “Careful, Boss!” The loss of his club seeming to startle Sophie even more than it did the reptile in the skull helmet, as their fanged foe flung itself forward once again, both trainer and Pokémon braced themselves as the beast unleashed those sharp teeth. Miss Sequoia wincing as their enemy tried to take chunks out of her Cubone, she was thankful for the protection that her partner was provided by his macabre headwear. Body scratched and scraped roughly but the chunky skull that the little lizard wore seeming to protect his head and neck from the worst of the damage, Boss was finally able to kick his attacker off with a grunt and was left a little bloody but far less injured than he otherwise might have been. “Use Retaliate to pay that pup back, Boss!” So far Sophie not having needed to step into the fights of her capable Cubone, the loss of his weapon convinced her that he might need something of a helping hand and so she offered another of his moves as a substitute method. Boss clearly preferring his bone club in hand and not dumped unceremoniously in the grass, for a second the reptile seemed to hesitate before swallowing his pride and nodding, before launching into a timely counterstrike. The Poochyena regaining its feet and lunging again, this time Boss squared his shoulders and used the advice that his trainer had offered to interrupt the attack. The Cubone ducking down before ramming his attacker hard in the abdomen with his tough helmet, the pair of fighters were left staring one another down and panting, both seeming to have left the other winded. It’s become kind of a brawl… Circling one another as they wheezed before launching into what seemed to be a battle of attrition, they seemed to exchange wicked bites and rattling tackles between one another, seeming to hope their enemy would be spent before they were. Sophie watching as the pair of them grew increasingly wobbly and wondering which of these small but determined fighters would emerge victorious, it was with some relief that she saw finally the wolf seem to sink to the ground as Boss fell to one knee, exhausted but not beaten yet. A shame to let a plucky pup go to waste though? Exchanging a nod with her winning warrior before looking toward the battered and beaten hound that had pushed him to the limit, Miss Sequoia paused for a second before deciding she might be able to find a use for that dogged tenacity and fighting spirit. Plucking an empty snare from her pocket and tossing it toward the prone Poochyena, she was sure that Boss certainly wouldn’t object to having a new sparring partner waiting for him back at the lab…
A Wild Poocheyna Appeared! Sophie used Cubone! Cubone used Bonemerang! It missed! Poochyena used Crunch! 30% Damage! Cubone used Retaliate! 35% Damage! Poochyena used Crunch! 30% Damage! Boss has definitely earned a long break… Smirking as she continued her path deeper into the Alterna wilds, Sophie did not feel particularly deterred despite the lack of progress she had made towards her original intent in this realm of grass. Instead impressed with the strong showing that her Cubone had given, having beaten a trio of enemies in rather short order Miss Sequoia felt a surge of pride for the little gang leader and was happy to let him recover from his last encounter inside his Pokéball.
The slopes evening out as Sophie set out through the heartland of Veria, the fields around the femme seemed increasingly like great grassy plains and she was not particularly surprised to find Pokémon taking advantage of the flat, open land. I wonder if the one that ran away earlier ended up here? Recognising a herd of humbug-striped bodies trotting gently across the green ground in the distance, Sophie eased her pace as she watched a dozen and more Blitzle jogging along. Something even more impressive quickly catching her eye though, as the foals bounced up and down slightly from one side to another, every once in a while a silver streak seemed to sprint past them like a surge of lighting.
Zebstrika…? The eyes of the researcher growing wider as she followed on the fleet footed shapes and waited for it to skid a halt, Miss Sequoia found herself stunned to see the larger and stronger ‘adult’ form of humbug-striped horse. Never having witnessed a wild example of this blistering quick beast despite having roamed across regions and studied Pokémon for more than half her life, Sophie was stunned to see this group of youngsters being seemingly toyed with by a small group of ‘parents’.
Are they training their young? The little Blitzle appearing to try and speed themselves up as one of the larger and faster Zebra dashed past them, the professor found herself wondering whether this little game served a deeper purpose in herds. Looking not entirely like a little bout of interval training, the young seemed to be left to jog at their own pace before being compelled into a sudden sprint when they saw something gaining on them. Perhaps trying to instil that habit of using their fast feet to escape harm as a honed reaction, it was such a sight to behold that Sophie seemed to watch and walk almost like she was in a dream, not even noticing that she almost stepped on a Patrat that scurried between her feet.
This is… Amazing! Ignorant to the little creature and the angry way it shook a paw at her before dashing off, it was like Miss Sequoia had been entranced by the spectacle before her. Watching the almost majestic way that even the young Blitzle seemed to strike off the ground with a fast four beat rhythm, the spectator could feel the way they group as a whole was making the ground beneath her feet vibrate with increasingly intensity the nearer she got. Taking one slow step after another, while the progress that Sophie made was not quick, she drew closer and closer to this dashing exchange, covering a considerable amount of ground without even realizing it. Though really, she should have been a little bit more careful.
O-Oh no! It only taking one of the herd to catch her in the corner of their eye and cry out in surprise, as a high pitched horse scream suddenly broke up the ‘game’, the mix of surprise and disappointment at the end of the spectacle snapped the professor out of her trance with a sudden sense of panic. The majority of the majestic monsters in front of her seeming to make a dash for the horizon at the sight of her, Sophie reached out as if trying to call them back, but found only one soul would answer that particular request.
Where is it…? OH NO! One of the Zebstrika seeming to split away from its herd and move off to the side for a second or two, Miss Sequoia wondered for a moment if it had lost its sense of direction or something before reaching the cold realization of its true intention as it turned to face her. Practically jolting in the spot where she had halted as the humbug-horse glared at her before galloping forward, time seemed to slow to as state where Sophie’s body felt as if it was being tugged through treacle and yet the striped sprinter seemed unaffected. Rushing her way as the young woman felt like her arms and legs were weighed down with lead, with a grunt the girl flung herself off to the side and just managed to get out of the way of the charge it had launched.
“Ooof!” Throwing herself with such a force that when her momentum caught up with her Miss Sequoia found herself spilling onto the ground, as she landed the girl let out a gruff gasp. Yet the pain of her fall was not the first thing that Sophie noted. A prickling sensations seeming to pulse through her form like she had just touched a lamp or something, even though the pink haired girl was sure that she had managed to avoid the rush of electrical equine, she still felt the subtle sting of a shock running through her body.
Looks like this one is perhaps looking to make sure I can’t chase the group down? Turning even though her body seemed to be afflicted by a sudden tremble, the Zebstrika had already brought itself to a stop and was rapping its hooves on the ground to tell Sophie if she moved she was in for more of the same. Looks as if not all herbivores are prone to flight over fight… Swallowing as she stared at a pair of intense blue eyes, the young woman guessed that if she was going to get out of this without being trampled then she might just have to get the better of this horse in battle, and lifted a quivering hand to her belt.

Boss is resting as well, so I guess I’ll have to rely on Grass Resistance rather than Ground Immunity! Hand lingering over the ball that contained the partner she had been using up to this point, as Sophie remembered that the perfect partner she had to oppose this enemy was currently enjoying some well-earned recovery time her hand skipped to another in her line up.
“Let’s do this, Kusanagi!” Finding there some irony in using a snake in this grassy environment that she might find amusing a little later on, from the sphere she whipped out sprang a green serpent that hissed as she spotted their enemy. Sophie relying on a slightly less advantageous type matchup in this confrontation, but still one she was confident in, while the Snivy she had summoned was giving up a lot in size, strength and speed, the young woman expected her tactics could more than make up for that.
“It’s fast, even for you, so brace yourself for its attack!” Advising her partner rapidly as the horse rapped its hooves on the ground and readied itself for what looked to be another charge, Sophie was astonished to see it only stepping forward to a paces to close the distance before ducking forward. Thrusting the twin horns atop its head forward and making them crackle with energy, a wild bolt of lightning scorched the grass the separated the pair before striking Kusanagi like a whip, sending the serpent stumbling backward but not quite managing to make her lose her feet.
Your electrical powers won’t work as well now! Sophie performing a little pump of her fist as her small but strong serpent endured the stream of lightning better than most, while her Snivy was left stinging and her green colour was now a darkened with blackness, never the less she had taken the attack well and was ready for a counter strike.
“No need to hold back, hit it with a Leaf Storm!” Miss Sequoia swiping her arm outward as she threw caution to the wind and opted to take advantage of the brief moment of surprise the horse would likely suffer as Kusanagi failed to ‘sell’ its move, with a winding turn the snake of Sophie began pull the greenery that surrounded it toward its body before unleashing a wicked wake of nature. Grassy particles caught in a torrential tornado that ran parallel to the ground, the trainer expected their foe to suffer heavily for the attack and yet once again found she was surprised.
What? It seems to be… Rather than being routed by the whirling stream of grass and rather simply seeming to stand its ground, as the blades of green that were being blown by the blasting strike of her Snivy hit the body of the Zebstrika, they seemed to simply glow before being vanishing entirely. Absorbing the attack? The hairs on the back of Sophie’s neck starting to stand up as she watched the striped horse take on the full power volley that Kusanagi could unleash and seem all the better for it, as the snake panted from the amount of exertion it had used to create that sudden swell, their opponent seemed not only unharmed but rather invigorated by the strike. It was beyond strange.
“Oh no, look out Kusanagi!” The zeal with which the Zebra operated only seeming to be renewed by the attack that Sophie had unleashed upon it, with her own fighter weary even the warning that the pink haired girl could offer seemed worthless as the horse dashed forward. Letting out a strong and almost forceful whinny as it leapt forward and threw its front feet into the air, hooves were sent crashing down upon Kusanagi like the hammer of a certain thunder god and Sophie found herself wincing even though she herself hadn’t taken the blow. The Snivy she had counted on certainly suffering far worse as it found itself being stomped into the earth, the green serpent let out a hiss that sounded like a scream and was left shuddering on the ground as their equine enemy hopped backward, prompting the professor to return her routed partner to her ball.
It even managed to overturn a type advantage… Easily! The numbness that the young woman had suffered now having abated enough that she could tell that the shiver running through her now was less a spasm sent through her muscles and rather a tremor born from fear. Intimidated by this horse and back in the same position she had been in less than a minute before, Sophie knew that she couldn’t outrun this horse and no longer had the party members available to make her smarts count for much in this fight. Nervous and feeling more than a little bit afraid, the only thing she could do was to hope one of her team could simply out punch this powerful and proud Pokémon, and if that was all the strategy she should rely upon she at least did have an inkling of who to choose for such a brutal role.
“Y-Your turn, Meat!” The confidence of Miss Sequoia shaken by what she had witnessed and showing in the shaky way she spoke as she summoned her next fighter, Sophie watched as she launched another splitting orb but this time the shape that sprang from it was neither small nor slender. Quite the opposite figure exploding free from the comparatively tiny confines of his pokéball, with a low growl something that was broad chested and thick limbed hopped into the grass and looked like the perfect contrast to the foe they faced. A Machoke with its bulging muscles and staunch stance looking like the exact counterpoint to something as refined and sleek as a Zebstrika, while it was debatable which of the two had the most raw power behind them it appeared that question was about to be answered as Meat stomped across the grass smirked cockily at his foe. The battle was on.
A Wild Zebstrika Appeared! Sophie used Snivy!
Zebstrika used Spark! It’s not very effective… 30% Damage! Snivy used Leaf Storm! The Zebstrika’s Sap Sipper Absorbed the Attack! It’s attack went up! Zebstrika used Stomp! 60% Damage!
Sophie recalled Snivy, and sent out Machoke!

The fleet feet of the four legged fighter giving the Zebra the first strike as it clashed with the man-like monster known as Machoke, with an aim that looked like it wanted to repeat the feat where it had earlier stomped a Snivy into the earth the Zebra screamed and flung its front half into the air again. A whinny becoming a battle cry as Sophie’s fighter braced itself for the incoming attack, a matter of meters behind the brawny beast the young woman watched silently, knowing Meat would have trouble dodging such a blow and hoped her partner would give as good as he got.
“Yes! You can tough it out!” Hooves slamming down on the bulky body of the blue eyed beauty’s beast, what had quickly undone the slender Snivy seemed far less effective on the iron-hard musculature of a well-honed body builder. Sophie sending words of encouragement as Meat stood like an unbreakable wall as he was hit by the sledgehammer strike, though he grunted and was left panting in the wake of the attack, as the woman behind him had hoped the brawniness of her battler was proving itself a boon, and the duo were just getting started.
“Nice, now while it’s still close, take those legs out with a Low Sweep!” Sophie shouting out with more assurance than she had shown when she summoned her pugilistic partner now that he had shown he could stand up to this menacing horse, with a grunt the Machoke nodded and threw itself forward with a rather unique method for achieving the move that his master had asked for. While most fighters would likely perform a sweeping move with the reach of their leg, Meat seemed to prefer to use one of his equally long and strong arms like a muscle-made baton as he lashed at the lower limbs of their enemy.
“That’s it, that’s it!” Proving there was some method to the madness he seemed to show as the attack chopped through the legs of the Zebra like they were black saplings, as her striped enemy was sent crashing to the ground Sophie couldn’t help but shout out in this small showing of success. The horse however seeming not to want to take this turn of events lying down, at least figuratively, after rolling over, it sent another surging blast of electric from its twin horns straight into the face of Miss Sequoia’s muscular monster.
Please get up… Please get up! The point blank strike enough to make Meat stumble backward and end up flat on his back, as a fresh electrical burn and god knows what else harm left the brawny boy stunned for a few seconds, Sophie mentally willed her partner back to the living as she squeezed her hands into balls that were so tight her nails began to bite into her palms. The discomfort something she barely even registered as she waited with baited breath, a wave of relief passed through the body of the beauty as her Machoke shook his head and sprang back up, wounded and wobbly but not wanting to quit just yet.
“Awesome, Meat! Now tame that bronco with a Cross Chop!” The trainer not even affording herself a breath to steady herself as this tense stalemate continued, with the Zebstrika trying to push itself back upright and likely looking to take advantage of its speed, Miss Sequoia knew she would need to ground that lightning with the strongest strike her Machoke could offer. Meat seeming to chuckle at the suggestion before nodding, he ducked down as he carried out the command of his leader before letting a train of pain explode from the station without so much as a last call.
The bulky body of Sophie’s Machoke lurching forward with a sudden speed that even the fleet footed Zebra did not seem to expect, as the brawny battler pulled his arms in front of his body and used his whole form like a gigantic cannonball there seemed to be only one outcome as the two collided. Meat like a one man wrecking crew that was showing neither mercy nor any other motivation to halt as he ploughed into and then almost right through a bewildered horse, the body of their enemy seemed to roll off him before thudding to ground in a heap. Yet Sophie was not about to leave him lying there.
That grass absorbing ability was most unusual… I’d like to study it more? Producing a black and gold coloured variation on the standard monster snare from her pocket as she eyed the stallion that had taken such effort to beat, the researcher had quite by accident found something of note as stumbled across the Alterna plains. Not wanting to let such a tasty research sample get away from her, with a snap of her arm she sent the orb spinning toward her target and waited hopefully to see if she could claim this excellent equine as her own…
Zebstrika used Stomp! It’s not very effective… 30% Damage! Machoke used Low Sweep! 40% Damage! Zebstrika used Spark! 55% Damage! Machoke used Cross Chop! Zebstrika was wiped out!
Sophie attempted to catch Zebstrika!
Machoke can have all three evolved evolution points since it did all the damage.
