Please be careful over there! The Groves are made for everyone to hunt Berries in peace, with an abundance to choose from, but if you cause a fuss or take too many you'll ruin the experience for the other guests. Please follow the rules and please be nice to the poor intern who got roped into overseeing this project. Professor Indigo will be upset if Stewart has to go tell him some rowdy tourist tore up the garden.
Berry Hunting is similar to Treasure Hunting in that you can do one thread per character per month, and in that thread will receive 4 rolls for free items. However, there are also many differences:
- Each roll, you will be given 1-4 berries, meaning you may get as few as four or as many as sixteen each month. You do not choose between berries; you keep all the ones you find.
- You can do a Berry Hunting thread anywhere if a Pokemon you are using within the thread has any of the following Abilities: Cheek Pouch, Frisk, Gluttony, Harvest, Honey Gatherer, Magician, Pickpocket, Pickup, Sticky Hold, Symbiosis, or Illuminate. Simply tag any thread as a Berry thread, and you can get those alongside catches, treasures, etc to save time and energy.
- If you do not have a Pokemon with those abilities, Berry Hunts must be done in the Berry Grove board. No catching, training, or other treasures can be done alongside a thread in the Grove, so it may be recommended to bring a friend. In this way, many formerly useless abilities now have at least some utility without being strictly required for the mechanic, either.
Once you have some berries, you can trade them for different varieties of PokéBlock by posting in this thread and mod summoning! "Matching" berries in the recipes below refer to berries of the same color! There are only 3 common colors at the moment, along with a rare Gold Berry needed for some of the stronger blocks, so this hopefully shouldn't prove too difficult.
PokéBlocks available are as follows:
PokeBlock - any 3 common Berries
Allows you to attract a specific Type of Common Pokemon when hunting. In order to avoid pseudo-forced encounters, mods will roll 3 times in the current terrain to try to get the right type. After that, they'll roll for any Pokemon in that type, regardless of terrain.
Big PokeBlock - any 4 common berries
Allows you to attract a random evolved Common Pokemon in a hunt; 3rd stage Pokemon may be attracted, but still have low odds.
Fancy PokeBlock - 3 matching common berries
Allows you to attract a specific Common Pokemon of interest in a hunt in the appropriate terrain.
Fancy Golden PokeBlock - 3 matching common berries + 2 Gold Berries
Allows you to attract a specific Rare Pokemon of interest in a Safari hunt in the appropriate terrain.
Fancy Big PokeBlock - 5 matching common berries
Allows you to attract a specific evolved Common Pokemon in a hunt; 3rd stage Pokemon cannot be attracted by this block. (Ex: Marowak or Pidgeotto are viable, but not Pidgeot.)
Fancy Giant Golden PokeBlock - 5 matching common berries + 2 Gold Berries
Allows you to attract a specific 3rd stage evolved Common Pokemon in a hunt.
Pile of PokeBlocks - any 6 common berries
Allows you to attract a random Common Horde.
Pile of Golden PokeBlocks - 6 matching common berries + 2 Gold Berries
Allows you to attract a specific Common Horde in the appropriate terrain.
(Disclaimer: Please note that this system is in something of a "beta" stage and may undergo some revisions after we see how things go. For instance, we may raise block requirements, or add another color or few of common berry, or repurpose one or two of the abilities currently usable for Berry Hunting. Fingers crossed it'll be pretty smooth sailing, though!)
