When he first arrived on Veira, Palanrandír was drawn to the trees of the forests surrounding Alto Town. He spent most of his early days exploring the wooded areas, as well as absorbing the vibrant nature in the surroundings.
It was on one of these days that Palanrandír thought he saw something sparkling in the stream he was walking next to. Curious, he tried to reach for it, one hand firmly grasping an overhanging root whilst the other plunged into the cool waters of the stream. However his eyes deceived him, and the bottom of the body of water was a lot deeper than he first assumed. Curiosity taking the better of him, he decided to take the plunge when he froze - what was he doing? He hated water, and here he was trying to dive in when he couldn't even swim! Mentally scolding himself, Palanrandír released his trusted companion, Zorua - who was a far better swimmer than he was - and asked him to dive down and see what was happening. Always up for adventure, Zorua shapeshifted into a splitting image of his master (humans could swim faster than his original form after all), gave Palanrandír a cheeky grin and jumped in the stream. Moments later, Zorua popped up again, excitement lighting his eyes.
"Palanrandír, Palanrandír! You'd never guess what I've found! Come, I wanna show you it's soo cool!" Before Palanrandír had time to react, Zorua reached for his hand and pulled him into the stream. Realising where he was, the white haired trainer's eyes widened in shock, but before he could try to fix his current situation, a firm grip pulled him out. Spluttering water, he was just about to turn around and scold Zorua before he did a double take. He was in a small clearing, with dense forest on all sides which stopped anyone from getting in and out. It seemed that the only way of entrance was that stream, and Zorua's piercing eyes managed to find a small underwater tunnel that ended up here.
Putting his expert tracking to good use, Palanrandír got to work. It wasn't long before he realised that this clearing was truly isolated - no human had traversed here in many an age, and as a result plenty of pokemon had made their homes there! Divining this to be the perfect place to practice and train unhindered and without fear of damaging anyone or anything, Palanrandír made a mental note of this location. Over the next few days, he visited the clearing bringing an assortment of tools, building places where he could train as well as his pokemon. Finally satisfied with his work, Palanrandír gave a huge smile of satisfaction. It was done! Finally, the training could begin.

As the wild Simsear approached Palanrandír, its red fur deeply contrasting the canopy of brown and green, the trainer couldn't help but think what a strange place to find a fire pokemon - in the middle of a forest! "Zorua, keep an eye out for where his attacks are going, if some are going wide try to intercept them with anything you." He whispered to his long time companion, who only gave a confident nod in response. Palanrandír knew the chances of anything setting fire was minimal, but better safe than sorry right? After all - he didnt want all the hard work he put into building the training area to go, or more accurately burn down, to waste.
Palanrandír then walked over to the ember pokemon and crouched down so they were eye level. "Hey little guy, is it alright if we have a quick battle? My Riolu is looking pretty out of shape, and don't worry, we wont hurt you! You can stop any time you want okay?" The white haired trainer smiled when he saw the Simsear give a thumbs up. "Alright Riolu, you ready?" Palanrandír called as he ran back to be next to the bipedal pokemon.
As soon as Riolu nodded, he was hit with a wall of flames. Crying out in surprise as well as pain, the fiery embers quickly snaked around him and disappeared. "Playing dirty huh? I like it!" Palanrandír laughed, "Riolu, go ahead and give it a taste of our power, Counter!" With surprising speed the small pokemon ran up to the Simsear, who seemed to be still gloating from his direct hit with incinerate, and returned the favour by doubling the damage back on it, sending it flying through the air and landing with a small 'thud' a few meters away. Angrily, the flame pokemon surged towards Riolu with its large tongue outstretched. "It's trying to paralyse you, watch out! You know what to do," Palanrandír winked at the fighting type, who simply smirked in return. At the last second before contact, Riolu suddenly jumped in the air and did a spin, avoiding the charging Simsear completely. "Awesome job buddy! Now return the favour with Copycat!" Just as the Pansear got back on its feet, it felt a strange wet sensation creep down its back, but when it tried to turn around to check it found it was fixed in place. Just as planned, Riolu's Lick found it's mark!
Just as Riolu was beginning to charge up another attack, he stopped when he heard the musical laughter of his trainer. "Alright there, I know you're getting fired up Riolu, but I don't think this Simsear is in any position to continue, wouldn't you agree Simsear?" The fire type who had just about recovered from the paralysis gave a groggy nod, and then ran off into the woods after waving a brief goodbye. Watching the fading form of Simsear into the dense vegetation, Palanrandír could sense that Riolu wasn't done yet. Checking his pokemon for any injuries, the warden evaluated that it was still near perfect fighting condition. "Okay buddy, what do you say we continue?"

Witnessing the battle from a branch high up, a figure jumped down from its perch and approached the trainer and his pokemon. "Now this is more like a pokemon you'd find in a forest." Palanrandír mused to himself, before approaching Nuzleaf and making sure it was okay with battling, like he did with the Simsear previously.
"Alright Riolu, it seems this Nuzleaf wants to give a shot at beating you - we can't let that happen right?" The only response Palanrandír got was another confident nod and a growl of agreement. "Okay then, let's show it how fast we are with a Quick Attack!" Seemingly blinking in and out of existence, Riolu dashed around the Wily Pokemon before jumping behind it and giving it a sneaky kick in the back. To the Emmenation pokemon's surprise, the Nuzleaf didn't budge an inch, as it used Harden to shrug off the initial attack. Turning around, a sword made out of leaves formed in it's hand as it slashed at Riolu over and over again without pause. Blocking as many as it could, eventually a particularly nasty strike got through and hit Riolu square in the chest, pushing her back a few feet. "Awesome! More of a challenge this time!" Palanrandír laughed, feeling more and more fired up by the minute. During the pause, the wild Nuzleaf had taken the opportunity to absorb the energy in the soil, seemingly growing in size. Knowing this to be Growth, Palanrandír told his pokemon to be more careful - another reckless attack like before and Riolu could be in serious trouble.
"Riolu, let's finish this quickly before Nuzleaf can pull any more clever moves on us, straight at him with another Quick Attack!" Almost mirroring what she did earlier, Riolu dashed in front of the grass typed pokemon, but this time feeling extremely cocky, Nuzleaf decided to use a Fake Out to stop Riolu in its tracks. Palanrandír grinned. "Just as I predicted, now go for a Force Palm and give it everything you got!" Unaffected by the Fake Out, Riolu started focusing all her energy into one spot on her palm, which started glowing as a result. Eyes widening, the Nuzleaf attempted to Harden again to block out the damage. It seemed to be holding. "You got this Riolu, give it just a bit more juice!" Clenching her teeth, Riolu's hand grew brighter and brighter. CRACK! Nuzleaf's defence was cracking. "Just a bit more!" CRACK! Suddenly, both pokemon were enveloped by a blinding light, causing Palanrandír to throw his arms over his eyes. As the light cleared, the form of Riolu was standing over the Nuzleaf. "Awesome! You did it! That was some sweet power, breaking through his defence like that!"

Before trainer and pokemon had time to take a breath, two vines snaked their way around the ankles of Riolu, and threw the unsuspecting pokemon in the air. Spinning around to try and find their assailant, Palanrandír saw two more thick vines darting towards him. Instincts kicking in, he dived out of the way as the angry vines shot into the stump of wood behind him, obliterating it almost immediately. Wiping the dirt from his face, Palanrandír was finally able to get a look at their unwelcome guest - a huge lurking form of Tangrowth.
Awoken by the commotion of previous battles, this Tangrowth was angry. With a mighty roar, it threw a strange yellow powder at Riolu which the white-haired trainer immediately recognised. "Quick, Riolu, get away from the Stun Spore with a Quick Attack!" Responding as soon as the words left Palanrandír's mouth, a white light covered the little blue pokemon as she skilfully dodged the yellow powder, which briefly settled on the ground before disappearing.
"It's our turn! Riolu, hit Tangrowth with a Force Palm!" Like previously, Riolu focused all her energy into one point of her hand and lunged towards the giant Pokemon with all her might. THUD! A direct hit! However, the Vine Pokemon had not moved an inch. During impact, it had stretched several vines down into the earth. "Watch out, its absorbing energy using Ingrain, put some distance between you two with Quick Attack!" Just in the nick of time, the small pokemon darted away just as the Vine Pokemon moved in for a Wring Out.
To try and close the gap between them, Tangrowth then proceeded to extend its vines again towards Riolu. Palanrandír grinned. Just as he expected. "Now let's finish this!" The trainer yelled, "Riolu, dodge again with Quick Attack and use Copycat! Push Tangrowth in the air so it can't get another ingrain off when we hit it!" Doing exactly as she was told, Riolu let out a grunt of concentration as several huge vines appeared beneath Tangrowth. Using its own element against it, the vines launched Tangrowth into the air. Close on its heels, Riolu used the vines as a ladder and quickly scaled up to where Tangrowth was. "Now, one last Force Palm!" Summoning all her remaining strength, Riolu launched a Force Palm straight into Tangrowth's chest, sending the monstrous Vine Pokemon barrelling back down to the ground, where its landing shook the clearing and all the trees surrounding it.
After the dust had cleared, the Tangrowth was nowhere to be seen. Glad to be rid of the unwanted guest, both trainer and pokemon decided to take a well-earned rest. Palanrandír was happy to see that even after a long time of no training, his Pokemon were still as sharp as ever.
