Dasha Laska [Potentially open to one or two other members of Interpol, but talk to me in chat/IM first.]
Kaimana knew he was a competent agent, that he had a wealth of experiences and a pretty solid record behind him. He knew Interpol was not the largest organization especially for how broad its reach extended, and that such merits tended to receive notice. As such, when he was approached for promotion, he was still somewhat surprised-- surely there had to be others just as qualified?-- but he was much more honored. The job of overseeing the activity in a region as unique as Veria really was nothing to shake a stick at, and he would do his best. ...Oddly enough, that task did not intimidate him nearly as much as the prospect of meeting his new subordinates. Having people under his command was nothing new, but this wasn't quite the same as the military, whatever similarities there still were. Figuring out exactly where the sweet spot was between commander and comrade, between authority and leniency, would be key to inspiring the best possible work chemistry, but the window for establishing it would be narrow. Once a firm impression was formed, changing it would likely be either difficult or make him seem inconsistent. As such, he knew once it was done it was done and he'd just have to go from there, and that figuring out how to proceed would be easier. But right now, the anticipation and uncertainty did make him nervous. ... He could perhaps admit to himself he did also just want these kids to like him on a personal level, though that did certainly take a back seat to establishing himself as someone to be respected. One of the first things he noticed upon entering the building was that his manner of dress was far more casual than anyone else present. ... Hm. Apparently either everyone here had a fancy secret agent kick or no on gave him the dress code memo. Welp, he damn sure wasn't stuffing himself in a hot suit every day, so he'd hope that changing the dress code to be more lax would go over favorably with most of the staff. He'd get an email written about that just as soon as he got his things set up in his office. Shifting the box in his arms, he looked back to see that his Farfetch'd and Sandslash were still following close behind, then turned to the nearest person he saw. "Scuse me, miss. I'm Commander Kaimana. Might you be able to point me to my office?"

Sitting in her low cubicle, Dasha typed at her computer with a calm fury. She had several reports to write up and some others to read over right after that, and while this in itself wouldn’t have been too much work on any given day, she was also feeling… distracted for lack of a better word. Reaching sideways to her half-filled java shake, she took a quick sip as she looked over what had been written out.
A jolt ran through her as someone spoke nearby. “Huh?” Flicking her head sideways, Dasha stared hard for a second, scanning the man up and down before blinking slowly thereafter. Comander Kaimana? W-… Wait right that was. Right. Dasha straightened in her seat only to stand right after. “It’s just down the cubicle line and to the right,” she explained pointing towards the door further off. Turning back after a moment, she paused again. “Dasha Laska, sir, do you need help with anything?”

Either straightening or standing would have seemed fine to Kaimana, but her shift from one to the other stood out; it showed some uncertainty, or perhaps a tendency to overthink things. He'd have to remember to keep an eye out and try to figure out which. Of course, if it was just nerves over meeting a new superior or something, it wouldn't be anything to worry about.
He nodded his acknowledgement and started to turn that way when she spoke again. Oh? He didn't have much, and Kyaria and Fractal could probably take care of any help or errands. Nevertheless, he answered, "No need to stop what you were doing, but if it's nothing pressing, I suppose an extra pair of hands wouldn't hurt." Getting to know some of the kids one-on-one sooner than later could only help things run smoothly, after all.
"You said Laska?" he asked as they headed to the office. Which one was... oh, was she-- "The one from that country that's been splitting? Er...Era, was it?" He glanced around the barren office before setting the box down. He began handing stacks of files to the Pokemon, who carried them to a nearby filing cabinet for him.

Dasha gave a small nod back. The paperwork could wait at least until she’d gotten a chance to assess this new commander, and even if it meant staying however late that day— well, Alex would understand, right? And... it wasn’t like this was going to take that long either. Following along beside the commander, Dasha pulled open office door and held it for him and his Pokemon before following inside as well.
A small frown did pull onto her features as he mentioned Era, but another nod was given. “Yes, it’s been in a civil war for years now,” she answered walking over to the filing cabinet where the files were being placed and sorting them. “From the current fighting it doesn’t seem to be letting up any time soon.” I should be there. Dasha chewed the inside of her mouth. “You’re from Kanto?” she asked turning the question around before she had time to dwell on it too long.

Kyaria's feathers ruffled as Dasha took over the filing, and she fought with breathing that was trying to become heavier. She knew Kaimana would scold her if she got aggressive with his coworkers, but this was her job. She forced deep slow breaths and told herself she should try to appreciate the break (and that she could go through and make sure the human did it right after she left). Fractal just sort of rolled his eyes at the subtle but all too familiar indicators of what his teammate was thinking.
"Ah. I know there's never really a 'bright side' to war, but if you'll forgive me for saying so, I'm glad it's at least given us such a capable agent." Based on what he'd seen of her record, at any rate. He went back and forth between setting things up on his desk and handing Fractal things to take to Dasha.
To her question, he answered, "For the most part, though I've spent a good amount of time with family in Alola. It always felt quieter there." Of course more recent happenings some other parts of Interpol had dealt with there proved nothing lasted forever, he supposed, but he'd always associate Alola with that sense of peach from his teen and early adult years.
...Mm, he supposed small talk wasn't really his forte. "I've been briefed on cases we're dealing with right now, but can you think of anything more off-record I should know coming in here?" Whether that meant very recent news, potential leads that hadn't produced results yet, office drama/politics, or whatever else, he'd leave her to decide.

Dasha tried very hard to smile. She appreciated the sentiment kind of…ish. But… Era was still home. The land, the water, the people…Everything in its entirety was home to her. She’d never felt more alive than when she was wandering the reckless wilds of the North and the dense brush of the East. She’d never felt more raw determination and self-driven righteousness than when she was defending it. Being here …. Well. Dasha’s features slacked a little.
She put a mental note of his mention of Alola. While she’d never seen it for herself, she had an Alolan Pokemon or two now. She might have gone on to say something like that but this thought was cut entirely by the change in conversation. Lips pressed together, and she shifted to turn to face Kai again. “There are a couple people who are managing jobs outside of Interpol- and some are less stable than others,” she stated after a moment not ready to name names just yet. "Otherwise there's not much to say. Everyone tends to get what work they have done." Which was acceptable enough in this case.

He hadn't entirely missed that reaction, though he didn't really get the full depth of it either. And whether it was a nerve he shouldn't have touched or something he should give her an opening to talk about more was also hard to say, hm.
Her answer to his question was a lot shorter than he'd hoped, and left little room for discussion. Still, it showed her priorities and suggested she wasn't one to get caught in gossip, mm? Good to know. "I saw a few that stood out in the files I got. Still not sure how I feel about that Dragon--...ah, Dragomir kid being open about his status when he's such a big name. ..But good to hear everyone overall is reliable," he acknowledged. A few more items were silently shuffled and placed a bit haphazardly on the desk, 'ordered' in a way that would make so sense to anyone but their owner, before Kai quietly smirked. "Suppose he's probably not ideal for covert missions, though, eh?"

A small puff of air escaped from Dasha as Kaimana mentioned Josh Dragomir. It wasn’t quite a laugh but… not quite exasperation either. For as critical as she felt towards him in the beginning (and as critical as she was of him in some regards still), her sharp feelings towards him were more or less neutralized after working so much now. He was just… whatever and at least he worked a bit here and there. The commentary that came after had her rolling her eyes some, still, though. “Probably not,” she agreed briefly. “I would be better at those sorts of things.”
Dasha paused on realizing that could sound more egotistical than intended. “My family does live here now, but I’m the least well known of them.” She went on a bit unwilling. It was already in her file, though, and it wasn’t like she needed to keep active secrets from her boss or anything. “I came to Veria much later than them among other things.” She still had yet to … speak to Mom but uh. Well, she had nothing to say to her, really— nothing that wouldn’t just end in a fight, anyways.

Oh? Was that an assessment, a volunteer, or a request? Some passing thought in the back of his mind noted she didn't exactly seem the type to blend into a crowd, but this was rapidly dismissed. As much as she had several traits that could be considered rather distinguishing if one knew to look for them-- her height, to name the most immediately apparent one-- he knew they didn't necessarily mean anything without context, and knew better than to assume anything about her potential for stealth from her appearance.
"Must be nice to be close again," he mused aloud. "Honestly not too excited about leaving all mine behind to move out here, but." He shrugged. "Least I get the kids in December." He'd be lying if he said he wasn't borderline-spitefully pleased about getting them for the first Christmas they couldn't spend with both parents, but anyway. "Halloween's gonna feel unusually quiet though."
Hm, almost done unpacking already, huh? The office was bigger than he was used to, though not more than he expected he guessed. He'd have to get a cheesy motivational poster or something.
Smirking, he suggested, "Unless we decide to have an office party, eh?"

Dasha bit back whatever she might have said about it being nice to be close to family again. It …. It was nice to see Nik, nice to talk to Dad, but… meh. These thoughts were at least swept away by the mention of his kids. Hm? How old were they? What were their names? Why was she even interested anyways? Dasha didn’t really have time to consider as a suggestion was made. “Office party?” she asked-slash-repeated. The thought of standing around and taking to coworkers for long durations of time didn’t sound amazing but— the prospects of dressing up….
She’d be lying if she didn’t enjoy that aspect of Halloween. Would Nik want to come? They could do something twinsy and scary or— “Work may keep us busy through Halloween,” Dasha spoke before she could stop herself. It was… still work after all, and Interpol was both undermanned and in charge of too large an area to really …But. Bah. Technically if they were all in the office they could react to any call regardless – just so long as no one was drunk but then …. Dasha reached up and rubbed the side of her neck twisting the small curls of stray hairs that rested there.

Kai resisted frowning at that response. She almost sounded interested for a second, but then... Mm. Shrugging, he asked, "Why so serious?"-- not quite doing an impression, but the cadence of his words just enough to suggest it was indeed a reference.
Checking under the flaps of the cardboard box for any cards or slips of paper that could have wriggled their way into hiding, he admitted, "Guess we couldn't go too crazy with it, but I dunno..." It probably was a ridiculous idea, especially to be suggesting in his first hour at the office, heh. Still, it amused him.
Carrying the box out to throw away and nodding for her and his Pokemon to follow, he went on. "Everyone having to dress as cop versions of things to make sure we're ready for action. Werewolf cop. Vampire cop. Mime cop." He grinned. "Might have trouble reading rights with that one. ...But on the plus side, if the mime got called to a hostage situation, he'd have a captive audience." This was 100% necessary.

Dasha’s lips pressed together. She got the reference, but the words themselves… well. Words had started to form on her own lips, but the concession kept her from saying anything immediately. Following him out as he moved, she folded her arms behind herself. “…Mime cop?” she barely had time to repeat the phrase before the explanation was forcing a small snort from her. Ok, she’d admit that was funny even if it was unrealistic for obvious reasons.
“Fairy cop…” she mumbled more to herself than to Kai— Seelie, of course, with lace and silks… Or even an elf. She had brought her longbow from Era but hadn’t gotten a chance to use it much here. Even if it was just an aesthetic prop for a night, she would take any excuse to pull it out. “We’d need at least a couple pumpkins, table mats, streamers..” Was she really considering this? Perhaps a little too much.

Heeey, there was the sense of humor~ Maybe this wasn't the best impression he could be making in terms of earning respect as The New Boss, but there'd be opportunities for that. If he needlessly asserted himself as some sort of authoritarian, he'd probably just come off as a hard-ass. He'd let his merits in action speak for themselves there; for now, while it was quiet, he'd rather get people to like him. Or perhaps... to establish himself as a person before an agent and try to make it clear he'd view them the same way. Comradery fostered more loyalty than obligation, after all.
He raised a brow at her suggestions. "You offering to plan it now?" As he tossed out the box, he looked around. Pretty empty in here right now, huh? "..You know, I wasn't too serious, but understaffed as the branch is right now, I could honestly probably pass off something like that as a Team Building Exercise." An almost-laugh briefly escaped him. "...Course it might be more uh... prudent to try to handle at least one major case between now and then so 'costume party' doesn't go down as my first big act in charge, eh? Administration might not be as amused by that."

Color touched Dasha’s features at Kaimana’s words, and a small ‘pffft’ sound came after. Still, she wouldn’t mind planning it if no one else wanted to— er. What she meant was… it would be nice to. Wait. Ok. Wait. Dasha rolled her eyes more at herself briefly. “It… might connect people a bit more,” she admitted a bit quieter finding herself looking out along the cubicles that were there. Though she’d been there for some time, she still… often felt outside of things? Of her own volition, of course, but…
One major case, right. “It’d be best to probably get through that,” she echoed straightening a little again. “Though the Konto case is the only major one currently.” The Top Hat or whatever his moniker was, had not been seen in quite some time. Was he just off their radar or had he left the area entirely?

Good. He liked this one, and he'd take her agreeable demeanor as a good omen. Here was hoping that the rest of his team proved as amiable. ... Though, damn, it only just occurred to him that if they did pull off a mini 'party' of sorts he'd have to figure out something to dress as. Ah... might have to call the kids for suggestions, heh. Maybe even Evelyn honestly.
He frowned when she mentioned Konto, though. Right... He had a feeling that was gonna be a thorn in his side for a good while. "Maybe not quite that major..." he mumbled. He reached up and scratched at his jaw a moment. "Wasn't there something about a powerful purple Pokemon our people were pursuing?" The details on that had been pretty minimal; he'd have to go through the local records now that he was here and see what else they had one it.
