As the Luxray ‘flew’ up out of the way of her Bone Rush, Arella whipped around again on the tips of her toes. Magnet rise was going to make this harder than it already was, but she was confident in her own abilities. Oriana, however, was not interested in the battle so much as Jazz’s reactions to it. He clearly had anticipated Ground moves could severely hurt his Luxray and planned accordingly with that move. How much training went into that, she could only guess, but given he spoke and Kovu reacted on a dime, she’d guess it was a lot. Good.
Once more, Arella was on the defensive as Kovu came forward (or above?) with a Fire Fang. Whipping sideways with an Extreme Speed, she avoided his tactic yet again (even if in a different way than before). Making a teasing face, she stuck out her tongue and raised her paws very briefly trying to distract or annoy him in return. The Discharge that retaliated thereafter had her Detecting it rather quickly and bounding backwards yet again. Nothing short of a surefire combination would touch her!
“Dragon Pulse,” Oriana called. Throwing up a paw and summoning up a blue light that quickly burned bright Arella shot the beam at the Luxray again. “Jazz, focus on controlling the space, the flow of the battle. You’re only reacting right now. Act with complete intention.”

To say Jazz was relieved that the tactic had worked was an understatement. Ground moves were fatal to electric types after all and if Kovu was hurt... Well, it had worked and that was all that mattered at this point. When both attacks failed this time however he was getting to be about as frustrated as Kovu. Why was it so hard to hit her? The order for Dragon Pulse brought Jazz back to reality as his mind raced to think of some other counter attack. Come on think, think ...what could they do? Right, there was that. "Shock Wave!"Jazz called out, hoping that the move would do some damage if not cancel out the Dragon Pulse completely. Kovu reacted instantly, sending out the damaging Shock Wave right as the Dragon Pulse was aimed towards him. In the end, the Dragon Pulse did some damage but it didn't seem like Kovu was too badly hurt. Then Oriana said he was just reacting. Right... he had been too concerned about Kovu, of watching him get hurt. No, he needed to trust his partner. They could get through this still, he just needed to think, to control what was going on. If he kept reacting like this, he would lose. Panicking wouldn't do any good, he needed to be confident. Taking a deep breath, Jazz nodded, smirking a bit again. Right, they could do this. "Kovu, use Signal Beam at the ground,"Jazz ordered, grinning as a plan came to mind. This way, Kovu would have the advantage. A Luxray's eyes could see through things, like an x-ray, even if they kicked up a little dust, it wouldn't affect them in any way. Considering they were by the train tracks and it hadn't rained in a while, a significant amount of dust would be kicked up. Or at least, that was what he hoped to accomplish. The Luxray was a little curious about the order, but did as he was told, aiming directly in front of Arella. Enough to make the Lucario believe he was going to disobey Jazz and almost hit her with the beam. It would indeed send dust and rock flying, but it was certainly harder to see and that was the point. Good. "Focus, use Fire Fang,"Jazz commanded again, his voice sounding a lot more confident than before. Kovu growled in response, his tail flicking back and forth before going into a crouch. With his eyes, he could still clearly see where Arella was in quietly moved towards the Lucario. The Magnet Rise gave him an advantage here too, he didn't make a sound as he approached, didn't even give a clue as to where he was by igniting his fangs. Not til he was close enough to bite down would he use the flames, latching onto Arella hard. He'd give the Lucario a hard shake before throwing her a short distance. There. That would teach that pesky Lucario to mess with him. Words: 505 | Notes: --- | Tags: Jay

A smirk pulled onto Oriana’s features. Signal Beam at the ground? What did Jazz plan to do? “Arella,” she started up until the dust burst forth. Ah.
Arella immediately shut her eyes as the dust kicked up, but Jazz forgot one fatal thing. The world of Aura was as clear as day to a master. She could ‘see’ Kovu coming fast even as he didn’t make a sound and would have reacted as much had her name not been spoken again. “Arella.” A Mind Reader would quickly be shot forth not to Kovu or Jazz but to Oriana. Ah. She understood now. She understood Oriana’s intention and her heart on the matter. This was not a battle to be won but a battle to test. Resolve. Jazz had shown that. Kovu had shown that.
The bite did hurt, did sting. Had she not had the power of Inner Focus, she might have flinched. And yet she withstood it strong and powerful as ever. A small chuckle escaped from Oriana, and hads raised up to clap in time. “Yes, Jazz, your resolve and determination is the answer. This battle is done.” Arella huffed but smirked a little thereafter. “I will show you to focus your own aura and see the world through it as the first step of your training.”

Jazz clenched his fists as he waited for the dust to settle, to see what the results of his strategy had done. If there was one thing he wasn't, it was patient. Well...if the Fire Fang had worked he could-... And then Jazz heard Oriana clap and turned his attention towards his aunt again. What? Hearing that he'd found the answer earned a smirk but... over already? He was just getting started. Shifting from one leg to the other, Jazz forced himself to relax, shaking out his fists. Kovu looked about as disappointed as Jazz felt when he heard Oriana say the battle was over. That was it? He had more fight left in him though! The Luxray sparked a bit, wanting to fight more before a sharp whistle from Jazz called him back. A low, yawning 'roar' would be given before Kovu bounded back over to Jazz. "Good job, buddy,"Jazz murmured, kneeling to pet and hug the big lion who was more than happy to receive pets and love. Yes, this would be good enough at least for now. The news that Oriana would teach him had Jazz looking up again, grinning from ear to ear. "Yeah? Really? That's awesome! Thanks~,"Jazz chimed, "What do I do first?" he continued, and would've stood up had Kovu not demanded more pets. Oof. If Jazz hadn't made sure he couldn't be knocked over, no doubt the Luxray would've tackled him to the ground. That tended to happen a lot. Sigh. Oh well, the big cat deserved it after that battle. A small puff of air, a smirk, and a nod would be the subtleties of Oriana’s approval. She might have said something right as Jazz asked but the Luxray seemed to be demanding his attention. Chuckling softly, she ran her fingers through her hair briefly. Steps were taken, and she closed the distance between herself and Jazz. “Come sit over here,” she stated making a gesture as she swiftly turned and started towards a nearby tree.
Sitting down and folding her legs in front of herself, Oriana waited for Jazz to sit down across from her. “Close your eyes and take a deep breath, focus your mind on the world around you.” Oriana spoke slowly, softly. “Take slow breaths, in through your nose, out through your mouth. Focus on everything you can sense without your eyes. Just let everything else go.”

As soon as Kovu finally let him up, Jazz ruffled the Luxray's mane and walked over to where Oriana was sitting, mimicking her position as best he could. The next statements were... a little harder to do. Especially since it required sitting still and that wasn't exactly one of Jazz's favorite past times. Eh, whatever, Oriana hadn't said this would be easy. That was what the battle was supposed to prove right? Or had it been a test of some sort? Right. Focus. Close your eyes and breathe. Easier said than done. Shut up brain, now is not the time. Taking a deep breath, Jazz tried to do what Oriana was telling him to do but it was like, impossible to just sit still and do nothing. Didn't he want this? Didn't he want to know what aura could be like? Why was this so hard? Trying his best to relax, Jazz took a few deep breaths and closed his eyes. It took a lot longer for him to actually calm enough to relax and not worry about what might happen if he let his guard down. That was the main problem here wasn't it, his fear was getting in the way. Once he let that go, it was easier to focus, to listen to the sounds around him and just, breathe. His breathing steadied, and Jazz was able to focus, to hear Kovu yawning in the distance, to smell metal from the train tracks mixed with the dust from before. It was cool, really cool and the more he focused, the more he could almost see them. Words: 273 | Notes: --- | Tags: Jay

Oriana sat still, quiet. Even as she was aware that Jazz’s aura was saying with worry, anxiety, restlessness, she waited. This part was hard to teach in words and required a sense of calm that didn’t always come naturally. It just needed time, however. As Jazz’s breathing steadied, however, Oriana quietly nodded to herself. Yes, they were go. “Keep relaxed, breathe, taking in the world around you.” She’d already said these things, but that was the point. Thereafter, she would fall silent for almost an hour hoping Jazz would follow suit.
Arella, meanwhile, had sat down as well, crossing her legs, and folding her arms in front of herself. She knew these exercises as well, very very well.

It was a lot harder to stay calm than Jazz had initially thought. He constantly heard sounds that made his paranoia spike, made him want to jump up right then and there. Still, he could hear Kovu nearby and that helped. A lot. He didn't have to worry with his partner Pokemon out. If nothing else, Kovu would take care of whatever was nearby. Relax. Oriana's next words had Jazz murmuring his assent before falling silent. He kept thinking that there had to be something more to this, that Oriana was just testing him again. What was the point of just sitting here and taking in the world? Relax. Yeah, trying. It wasn't that easy. He had to try though, had to focus and work on not being so anxious. That was what this was about, right? Maybe? The silence was uncomfortable to say the least. It would take Jazz longer to find a place where they could relax and maintain that peace. But they managed it well enough. As soon as Jazz let go, it was easier to 'see' the world around him somehow. Even with his eyes closed it was like the world was filled with vibrant colors. Jazz wanted to open his eyes, to see if it really was true but didn't. He kept calm, relaxed, waited to see what Oriana would say next. There had to be more to this, right?

Even with her eyes closed, Oriana could ‘see’ the way Jazz’s aura moved, the way he seemed to jump at the slightest thing here and there. Even as he murmured back at her words, she said no more, just waiting. As Jazz seemed to calm some, Oriana breathed a soft sigh. Good yes. “Keep your mind calm, think about nothing except what you are experiencing. What is around you. Take it in through every sense but your eyes.” Was she just rephrasing what she’d already said? Basically but.. that was kind of the point here. It was a test of patients, a test of serenity. A test of resolve, a test of diligence to this. Aura was unlike anything anyone could just explain away after all.
Another hour would pass, Oriana not saying much more, still waiting as she had been. Arella was the same, calm and relaxed as before. A subtle breeze had started to fly by, and Arella’s ears twitched ever so slightly. But that was it.

How long do we have to do this? That was the question, wasn't it. The longer they sat there, Jazz was getting more and more restless. It was hard to stay calm and breathe like Oriana wanted him to do. Patience wasn't his strong suit, never had been and well, just sitting like this was difficult. Aside from that, this position was making his leg cramp. Ugh. It was like his mind wanted to focus on everything that was wrong about this rather than try and listen to Oriana. Why was this so hard? Why indeed. It shouldn't be so difficult to sit still like this and relax. Keep your mind calm. HAHAHA, like that was going to be such an easy thing. With a sigh, Jazz gave up trying to sit like that and relax and flopped back on the ground. At least this was more comfortable and certainly easier to relax like this. Kovu heard Jazz and decided to lay next to them, laying half on top of them so it would be impossible to move. Even pinned down like that however, the reassuring closeness was calming. Jazz's breathing steadied again but this time, he could actually listen to what Oriana was saying. He could hear Kovu's breathing, Arella's, even Oriana's. The breeze that kicked up whipped hair in front of Jazz's face but he didn't care right then. Colors started to appear again, even with his eyes closed similar to the wisps he'd been seeing but...clearer? He stayed silent, taking in the world as it passed by him. The rise and fall of Kovu's chest, how calm the Luxray was, it helped. Jazz lost track of how much time had passed but he felt a lot calmer then he could remember feeling... ever, probably. He could think clearly and wasn't jumping at every sound like he had been before. Was it because of Kovu? Nah... this was something else, something different. It had to be.

As Jazz flopped back, Oriana’s brow quirked, but she kept her eyes closed and kept her words to herself for now. As time passed, however, she became aware of the way in which Jazz’s aura started to calm, shimmer a bit, sparkle even. Flecks of silver even passed now and again. Good…good… As time passed, Oriana slowly took in a breath. “What do you see now? What does the world look like?” she hummed softly. "Describe it simply but with enough detail... think about what you are seeing and what it might mean." Mean in terms of every sense of the word, really.

Jazz lost track of time the longer he lay there, taking in the world around him. He didn't know how long he'd been there, but he didn't really care. It was... really cool, actually. The way the different lights passed in front of his still closed eyes. When Oriana finally spoke, he slowly opened his eyes, taking a deep breath as he saw the world just filled with color. Everything was so much clearer now, like he'd been looking at the world through a dirty lense. "I-... wow, everything is so much clearer? The colors are brighter and it's...amazing. It's like, I was looking through a dirt lense this entire time,"Jazz said softly, his voice filled with awe. Closing his eyes briefly, he took another deep breath and sat up as much as Kovu would allow him. He could see vibrant colors that stayed, not like the wisps from before that faded in and out. These surrounded Oriana, Arella, and Kovu and seemed to pulse and move. "There are colors, greens and yellows around you... Almost, pulsing? I can see blue around Kovu and... maybe it's cuz he's relaxed. I can almost feel what they mean but... I don't know, it's hard to describe,"Jazz continued, still finding it hard to believe that he could actually see aura now.

The green and yellow light of Oriana’s aura shined brightly as Jazz spoke. Yes, that was it, Jazz. Good. “Focus now, see what you can separate out with your eyes and your mind, really try and see each individual shred of aura in each person,” she went on. “And try and piece together what those colors may mean.” There was actually a learned scheme to what things generally meant, but it was almost always better for a learner to practice and understand by doing rather than by memorizing.
Arella’s ears twitched, but her eyes remained closed. She never did need to ‘see’ the world around her like some did. Her interests lay elsewhere anyways.

As Oriana's aura shone, Jazz squinted a bit at how bright it was. Was it always that bright? Geez, this was going to give him a headache if everything was always like this. Rubbing his eyes, Jazz nodded and tried to focus on Oriana's aura, there were more colors than just greens and yellows, weren't there? Yes, he was certain of it now. The more he focused, the more he could see and it was... wow, could Auntie see like this all the time? That was-... ok, yeah it was actually making his eyes hurt now. Closing his eyes again, Jazz took a deep breath. Right, focus, just breathe. Oriana made it sound so easy, but it almost seemed like too much to take in right then and there. "It's... layers, so many different colors. Greens, yellow, silvers... there's so much to take in. Umm, I'm not sure how to tell what they mean? It got brighter when I said I could see it. Kinda like you... glowed with pride? Maybe?"Jazz stated, not sure this was exactly what Oriana meant but man this was giving him a headache. If everything could just, dim, that would be just fine with him.

Layers…different colors… so much to take in… Oriana’s lips quirked a bit. “That tends to be how it is,” she answered softly. “Focusing your vision takes time and effort…” A few fingers ran through her hair as she looked off towards the forests. “There are ways to shut it off or dim it by focusing on yourself. Closing off your sense of things by centering your focus inwards.” Looking back, she offered a half smile. “Some people don’t find that part easy, however.” In her experience, it had been almost harder to shut it off than it had been to turn it on. Perhaps she was what some would refer to as a natural in that regard.
