{Mission Details} Mission name: Wot R U, Casul!? Participants: Thomas Benoit Spawning?: 3 Medium Word Count Dexterity Challenges (building tools at a work bench, batting range, etc) Mission details: Thomas Benoit has decided to take on a training regimen in order to improve his dexterity. Thomas has taken to the training grounds at the International Police Headquarters in Faraday City in order to undergo the training. The training in question will be simple exercises, meant to act as a gateway in order to improve his dexterity. New Skill: Dexterity - Minor: Though already tapped into thanks to his general training with the Phantom Murkrow, Thomas has further trained himself in improving his motor skills. While this doesn't greatly augment his training at this point, his training in terms of using knives, hitting bullseyes, and assembling tools and other such items have underwent a slight improvement in this regard, and are open to even further improvement. Compounded with his prior training, Thomas is able to hit a bullseye 5/8ths of the time. After having made his way to the International Police Headquarters to begin his workday, rather than heading for the offices like he usually would, the youngest Agent of the Veria Branch would instead make his way towards the locker room. But rather than changing into some sort of workout wear, or riot gear, Thomas would instead strip down to the white bodysuit he had recently taken to wearing underneath his clothes. Once his other clothes were locked up, and the dial reset to zero, Thomas would finally make his way towards the Training Area. Today was the day that Thomas had arranged to have some further training done, in order to improve his dexterity. It would hopefully be the first of many training sessions that Thomas would take in order to further hone his skills.

Long Range! 500 words! Thomas sees that a lot of the training areas are busy all aside from the archery range. Well, this would be a good chance to test out that dexterity when it comes to aiming, pulling back that bow, and no snapping his wrist to hell and back with the recoil. Have fun with that!

The fact that Thomas had manage to put aside a day for training came with the caveat of several other Agents using the training facility on that day as well. Many of them being from other Branches across the world, given the nature of their training facility being one of the higher rated ones, and offering certain courses that no other branch offered locally.
But the good news was that one station was freed up, one that was quite relevant to what Thomas wanted to improve upon. The archery range had a good several lanes opened up for use. The trainer quickly made his way over, taking his place, and taking his time to examine the bows offered up by the course.
The first order of business being to select the right bow for his size. Given that it had been a good few years since he had received any sort of practice or training with archery, Thomas would have to take his time, taking a training arrow, one with a flat head, and testing out the draw on the different bows offered. As Thomas tested them out, noting the distance between his extended arm and chosen anchor point, he would aim down the range, before easing up and moving onto the next bow, moving up in the sizes until he found the ideal type of bow.
Despite the rust he would have in the subject, it seemed whatever lessons he had learned about form had stuck with him. And with his bow selected, Thomas would hit the button to start the course proper, bringing up several bulls-eye targets in the process.
Thomas, as before, would attach the arrow below the nocking point, odd fletch facing outward of the bow, as he had been trained. The Kalosian would then pull back the arrow, reaching his desired anchor point, before firing an arrow into the first target.
While he failed to hit the bulls-eye, he still manage to hit the target close to the center. The next shot, however, was a miss. With an irritated sigh, Thomas would try again, this time, taking his time to line up the shot before hitting the target. Thomas would continue to do what he did before, assuming proper form, with each shot becoming more confident, the more he got into the activity. And as he would get more comfortable with firing the bow, his shots would begin to close in further towards the center, becoming more consistent.
About halfway through the round, he would manage to hit a bulls-eye. And though this success wasn't quite consistently replicated, Thomas still managed to get off a decent share of bulls-eyes through the latter half of the course. With the round coming to an end, Thomas would watch his score being tallied on the terminal nearby. And despite hitting less than half of the bulls-eyes, due to having to shake off some of the rust, he still managed to get a decent score, on account of having hit most of the targets.
Of course, given that it would take some time before some of the other course he could use would be freed up, Thomas would continue to practice his hand with the bow, for at least one more round.

WHOOPS! Seems Thomas managed to snap a bow string during his last round. The supervisor on duty isn't too happy, and says if Thomas wants to improve his fine motor skills, he can start by repairing that bow and helping check over and fine tune all the others.

In Thomas' focus on making sure his ability to fire a bow was still in check, there was one thing the trainer neglected to check. And that was the condition of the string. Whether it was frayed from prior use, or somehow, his use of the bow alone managed to cause it, despite Thomas being careful as to make sure he was drawing the arrows properly, the string ended up snapping on him. By some miracle, the snapping string didn't hit him, but his face washed over with embarrassment.
"Dammit, Benoit! You're gonna fix that bow you just broke! And while you're at it, make sure the others are in prime shape!", the instructor practically bellowed at the young agent. Thomas, in no position to argue, simply nodded, and made his way over to the maintenance station, gathering the supplies for removing the broken string, and replacing it.
Thankfully, the bow in question was a recurve bow, so all he really needed was a bow stringer, or sling, for attaching a fresh string. Now, if he had caught any signs of fraying before using the bow, he'd also have to use the sling to safely remove the bow string.
The process was simple, the trainer carefully inspected the new string for any flaws, and made sure it was set right, before removing the severed string from the bow, attaching the new string onto the bow, putting the loose end around one end first, then letting the tighter end attach to the opposite limb. Thomas would then pull out the bow stringer, attaching the deep end to the tighter end to secure it, and the shallow pocket to the looser end, just above the notches.
The Kalosian would then carefully anchor the middle of the sling with his boot, then slowly pull up on the bow, making sure both pockets of the sling were securely attached as he applied the pressure, then sliding the loose end of the string towards the notch, pulling up very slowly until he got to the optimal point, attaching the string fully to the limbs. He would then slowly and carefully ease the pressure, gently lowering the bow, constantly checking the hold on the notch, and determining that it was indeed holding. Finally, with the pressure taken off, the bow was back in proper form, with a fresh string to boot.
Thomas' work wasn't done, as he had to inspect the other bows for the instructor. So getting to it, Thomas would inspect the first bow, noticing that it had been frayed. So taking the stringer, Thomas attached the ends of it, just like he did with the bow he had repaired previously. However, when he got to the point where his boot would anchor into the center of the stringer, he would pull up slowly, until he could see that the pressure was relieved from the string. Slowly, he would take the bigger loop, and slide it down the limb, before slowly lowering the anchored bow, the old string having been loosened.
Thomas would then repeat what he had done before, once the old string was removed. Big loop draped around the limb first, then the smaller loop tightly around its limb. With the deep pocket of the sling securing the small loop, and the shallow end placed on the side of the bigger loop, Thomas once again held the sling down at the center with his boot, pulling up slowly and carefully, making sure the pockets of the sling were still secured. Once at the right point, he attached the bigger end of the loop around the notch, before going down slowly, making sure the connection was secure.
Finally, with that bow repaired, Thomas got to work inspecting each one. As he would find, not only was there something wrong with all of the bows, but signs of sabotage became clearer with each bow inspected. But rather than call out the instructor for this, Thomas bit his tongue, instead making sure each bow got repaired. After all, who knew if the instructor would find anymore "flaws" with the bows that Thomas had repaired.
And with each time he went through the motions of replacing the parts, he would find himself becoming faster and more efficient with his movements. As if this setback was its own form of training.

TRIPLE SHOT!
The ultimate test. You need to take three arrows, notch them on a single string, and hit 3 targets in one swift motion. This will take multiple tries, and at your level, will be something you could never put into practice in the real world, but its a great test of what you've been learning.

With the last of the bows fixed, Thomas allowed the instructor to inspect the bows. The man would find that the bows were indeed properly repaired. "Good, you didn't screw this one up.", the man remarked as he and Thomas began to place the bows back into storage, awaiting further use from those looking to test them. But as Thomas grabbed the recurve bow that he used earlier, the man stopped him from storing it.
"Actually, kid, I've got one more thing for you. A final test. You're gonna use a Triple Shot to take out three targets.", The man told Thomas.
"... You people actually use that out in the field?", Thomas questioned the man, an eyebrow raised as he heard that.
"Yeah, why not?", the man asked with a sly grin.
"Doesn't that sound... y'know, impractical in nature?", Thomas asked the man.
"You never know when it's going to be needed, like if you have to eliminate three hostiles in one fell swoop, with insufficient backup.", the instructor would tell Thomas, with an almost proud look on his face, as if he had performed such a feat before.
"Whatever you say.", Thomas replied to the man, giving him a shrug.
"Now, I'm only gonna demonstrate this once. So you'd better pay attention.", the instructor told Thomas, before hitting a button to raise six targets in total. Three of them being red, the other three being blue. The man would carefully notch three arrows onto the string, before pulling it back, and after a moment, firing on the targets, hitting all three reds square in the head.
"Impressive...", Thomas remarked as he turned his attention to the targets, his focus being on the way the man armed and operated the bow, before seeing the results.
"Now, it's your turn.", the instructor said, before stepping back and letting Thomas take to the range.
Having taken note to how the man notched the arrows onto the string, Thomas carefully placed the three arrows on the string, before then pulling the string back, immediately feeling an awkward difference in comparison to one arrow. He would do his best before firing the arrow.
All three arrows would miss their mark, hitting walls around the targets.
"And that's where the hostage takers would be alerted to a sniper, and start picking off their hostages!", the instructor barked.
Thomas would once again notch three arrows onto the string, awkwardly trying to manage their positions before firing again. Only the center arrow would even hit its mark, while the other two would fly into the nearby walls of the range.
"Kid, if this were an actual hostage situation, those poor bastards would be completely screwed!", the man called out to Thomas.
With a sigh, Thomas once again notched three arrows onto his string, minding that he didn't cause it to fray again. This time, he would take more time in trying to adjust to dealing with three arrows at once, before firing again.
Only this time, two of the arrows hit a target. One managed to hit a red, while the second one hit a blue target, with the third hitting the wall behind them again.
"I don't know who scares those hostages more: the hostage takers, or the dickhead that's supposed to be saving their asses!", the instructor taunted the trainer.
Thomas shook his head, hissing under his breath as he got ready to fire off another three shots. He would take note of their positions, and adjust the angle of the arrows, managing their position on the bow carefully, before pulling back, and firing.
This time, the arrows actually managed to hit the three red targets, albeit one in the shoulder, one in the midsection, and one in the knee.
"Well, you actually managed to hit them this time. And don't you dare make a joke about arrows to knees.", the instructor called out to Thomas.
Thomas just gave the man a perplexed look after making the last remark. Having been unfamiliar with video games himself, he was oblivious to the infamous meme, and thus just how much it annoyed the instructor.
"In any case kid, you're not ready to pull something like that in the field. But keep practicing, and we might make a competent archer of you yet!", the instructor told Thomas.
