Walking into Interpol Headquarters was... it was strange, to say the very least. The general feeling was that this place was familiar. Very familiar. It still felt strange. Especially when the woman at the front desk nearly dropped her cup of coffee in her lap at the sight of him.
Rhafiel lifted one eyebrow slowly, looking her up and down, "I'm not a ghost," he noted calmly. "I just need to talk to whoever is in charge of my old team."
She seemed frozen in place, staring at him without moving.
He scowled at her.
That seemed to snap her back into shape. "Yes, sir. Right away, sir."
Nope. That was weird. It didn't sit well with him.
He was too busy feeling awkward about it that he almost didn't notice another woman rushing out to meet him. "Follow me, sir. I'll take you to the Commander."
'Stop calling me sir,' he muttered mentally.
He followed the woman, probably a secretary, to the elevator. He stood near the back so that she couldn't stare at him and burn a hole into his back, though she continued to glance backward at him like she didn't know what to do. How to act. What to say.
The path they took felt familiar, but he wasn't inclined to just push his way through.
It was a relief that most people were out of the office, letting him duck through the cubicles on their way to the commander's office. The woman motioned him inside and Rhafiel nodded his thanks at her.
Stepping inside, Rhafiel paused, taking a moment to stare at the window and the furniture... trying to remember what it had been like to be in this office.
Nothing. Absolutely nothing.
So he turned his attention to the commander, his arms settled at his sides. He skipped the greeting, getting right to the point. "I understand that I've been reported missing," Rhafiel murmured, his brow furrowed.
"My name is Rhafiel Diederich."

Mmmm? Kai looked up from his desk as the woman let a young man to his-- mm? No, not so young, just small he guessed. Or very weathered for his age, one or the other, heh. But who was this person and why would she...
I understand that I've been reported missing. Brown eyes widened. Hang on, that face actually-- Shit? He'd mentally placed the picture he'd seen in the case file just in time for Diederich to confirm his identity. "Son of a bitch..." came the awed exasperation, not directed at Rhaf but a general interjection.
About a half step below 'scrambling' out of his chair, he briefly introduced himself. "Commander Kaimana." He moved around his desk and crossed the room, not sure whether to extend a hand or not. He was just... a little stunned? More than a little. "Ah, go ahead and step in." He dismissed the secretary, then closed the door behind them to talk in a bit more privacy before turning back.
"We'd all but given up on you. Glad to see you in one piece." Don't rush him, Kai. Give him a chance to-- "The hell happened out there?" Or that. Just blurt that right out there. That was fine too apparently.

Rhafiel watched this man, the way his aura shifted. Rhafiel rolled his shoulders a little when he sensed the surprise, the emotion serving to make him mildly tense. He spent a few more moments observing the man's aura while simultaneously deciding whether or not the man was trustworthy.
He was, it seemed. At least that was the feeling Rhafiel got from him.
The quick movements to meet Rhafiel however left him standing a little straighter. Nyx, who had lagged behind to explore the office, slipped in before the secretary could close the door. She pressed into Rhafiel's hip, eyeing Commander Kaimana with a mildly protective expression.
Rhafiel deadpanned when Nyx pressed against him, putting his hand on her head and giving her a warning look. Not here. No trouble.
The question of what had happened to him? That was kind of the reaction that he'd expected. Thankfully, he'd rehearsed it somewhat on his way to the HQ.
"Admittedly, Commander Kaimana, I can't tell you what happened because I don't know. I woke up in a hospital a little over a month ago and all they could tell me was that I was found in the mountains near Liggs with major blunt force trauma to the head. They operated, I sat in a coma for a few months, I woke with no memory of the last thirteen to fourteen years. I didn't exit the hospital until a little over a week ago, and I've been spending the time trying to figure out where I live, where my things were, who my people here are."
There was a pause. Rhafiel rubbed the back of his neck, "They said that it was almost certain that I'd been purposely attacked based on the type of trauma. I figured it best I start here to clear my missing persons status and help you open an investigation at the same time. From what my partner has told me... I have multiple enemies stemming from my time back in Orre and Nue."

Well then... Hot damn. Kai moved back to his desk while Diederich explained, gesturing for the smaller man to take a seat across from him. (...He really was tiny, wasn't he. He'd seen his basic info before but seeing him in person was almost distracting. He wasn't much bigger than Nalani, was he? ..Ah, maybe not even that if she'd shot up lately? Ah, no it'd only been two months, surely not.)
Despite the minor distraction, he really was listening intently. He briefly wondered when in this he realized he'd been Commander, or how the mentioned partner played into this, or if 'no' memory was a minor exaggeration and it was more of a bare skeleton of major facts with no details or something. He also wondered if he'd only just learned about his former position or had known earlier in the month he'd been awake. In the end, prying seemed rude and ultimately irrelevant to the more important details at hand, however. "Mmm. We'd worried about an attack. Gonna be honest, I really hoped you'd just cracked under pressure and ran off." One corner of his mouth twitched briefly. That was.. almost a joke, but not really, and this was too grave to let himself entertain amusement for too long.
A deep breath was followed by a sigh, and he turned to pull up Diederich's case file on his computer. "Guess if there's someone out there willing to take on such a high-ranking agent like that it's good we know for sure, now, though..." Was it too selfish to hope it was one of Diederich's enemies from the past and not someone who might be looking for him next?
"I'll get this missing status cleared up and open an investigation on what happened right away, but I'm not sure how much help you can give on it unless you remember any more of what happened." Hopefully bits would come back, though even those would need to be taken with a grain of salt given the nature of memory... Mm. "What were you hoping to do moving forward?"
