{mission details}Mission name: Mixed Swords Participants: Dasha Spawning?: 3 Word Count situations (500-600) that involve sword training and general strength training. Examples include practicing swings X, pushups/pullups, and climbing.
Mission details: Dasha has trained with a long sword for many years, and her athleticism has increased overall because of this. However, she has recently grown an interest in expanding her sword style from one long one to add in two medium range swords. What she'll find on trying this, however, is it requires quite a bit more specialized strength.
She'll work with numerous influences in any way the mod prompts it some of which can be in Interpol's gym or on and around the outside grounds.
New Skill: Strength Minor (1) - Dasha has enough practice or training to have built up some extra muscle. Heavy lifting maxes at about 150lbs (68kg) at a time comfortably which is more than enough to hold and control her swords. It's possible to lift more but causes muscle strain and pain in long intervals. In combat her swordsmanship can deal some pretty nasty damage.
It should have been relatively straightforward. Sword fighting was about speed, strength, and agility- all of which she had already. Yet holding two blades, one in each hand, as opposed to one in both hands was…. so… difficult? Dasha hated to use that word, but it was the closest to the truth that she could find. Despite how much more balanced two was versus one had, she felt off balance? Ugh, that and the way she moved was so clunky and frustrating and ugh.
Talking with Alex had produced mixed results, but the idea that Dasha needed more muscle to handle both swords was an obvious start. That and just… to practice more. Practice made perfect, after all. At least Interpol had a reasonably large gym that agents (and their Pokemon) could work out in, and while there wasn't a specific sword training area, there were plenty of grounds that could simulate that well enough. Walking into the gym, Dasha looked around slowly. Hmmmmm, machines or ground training first… There was actually a lot of options here, huh.

Alex followed Dasha into the Interpol gym, and looked around as well. It was his first time here, though he'd seen the outside of the building a few times when coming to meet Dasha as she got out of work. "Damn, you guys go all out, huh?" ..No, he wasn't jealous. ...Maybe.. just a tad envious, but that was different. "We should get you warmed up before we go all in today." And Alex could probably use a warm up himself. He could use a long sword, both two-handed for fast power and one-handed with a shield, and he could dual-wield, but it was his own weakest skill in terms of swords. "These machines over here look like they have different settings to work different parts of your arms. Maybe a few rounds on each one to start." Maybe afterward they could go for a brief job to get their cardio up and let their arms rest before the next exercise. -- 500 Words --

Dasha couldn't help but grin a little at Alex's words. Yeah. Interpol was pretty great in general. Their resources and power gave her hope, even if they still hadn't squished out some of the opposition. Her attention would be pulled sideways, however, as Alex mentioned the machines. Ah the shoulder presses, bicep curls, and tricep pulls would all be good for her arms, yeah. And what was that other one? Dasha squinted but would have to get closer to really investigate. Oh, huh, a sort of different pulley system one. She hadn't seen that last time.
Walking over to the first machine, however, Dasha shifted squatted down to look at the numbers on the weights. Each black square had been marked to indicate ten pounds. She guessed starting with something light and steadily increasing the weight would be best. The pin got shoved in at the thirty-pound mark, and as she came around the machine and sat down, Dasha was immediately aware of how her hands clenched. Rolling her fingers and trying to soften up her hands a bit, Dasha focused more on the push forward, the feeling of her shoulder muscles pulling as the machine's arms were pushed together.
One, two, three. The pacing was pretty easy, and after five reps of five, she'd ease back. "It's a little too light," Dasha mentioned to Alex before shifting the pin up to a higher weight. More reps, more pull forward. She may have exerted herself a little too much in moving the pin to a hundred but wasn't about to be outdone so easily. Once she'd found a comfortable limit, however, Dasha pulled the pins out of the arms and turned the machine around and sat backwards on it. Pulling back, she was aware of the immediate strain on her trapezius. Argh, right. She needed to start at a lower weight and work up.
Her shoulders were warm now, and a couple rounds on the bicep and tricep curls were almost a little too easy by comparison. Ugh, she was clenching her hands again, though. That was no good. She started and stopped a couple of times in doing this before finally finding a rhythm of sorts.
At Alex's suggestion, they'd do some cardio next. Get that blood flowing and muscles breathing. There was a particular machine akin to a stair stepper but with a more elliptical path that Dasha pointed out. As much as a treadmill could work someone, that thing could do so better. Climbing on and moving the arms along with her legs, Dasha started on a simple hill climb following the smooth cycles of the machine. Ah, she kind of wanted to put earbuds in and zone out but thought better of it. That wouldn't be a good enough workout, and this part was temporary. They'd be doing other things soon enough.
And somehow even without earbuds, Dasha found herself humming an old Fort Minor song. "Remember the Name" wasn't the most just song but it had a great beat for this kind of thing.

Alex... clearly had not properly worked out with Dasha for too long, and soon found he had trouble keeping up with her. He tried not to show any resentment at her complaint that the weights were too light, but managed to make it through, even doing much lower weight limits than her. He was a bit tired already (definitely gonna start hitting the gym more on his own, he swore he hadn't been this easy to wind a few months ago), but at least his arms weren't burning so much by the time they were done with the cardio. Hrmmmmmm.... Brown eyes scanned the floor, and eventually settled on a small boxing ring in one corner. "Think next you could practice a few punches on the punching bags over there, then see if one of the other agents here will box a round or two with you. That might help get you in the mindset of applying force with both arms separately." Alex would offer to be her opponent, but needed to watch her form to critique, clearly. He wasn't just avoiding getting his ass kicked or anything. --550 words --

Dasha was feeling pretty good, actually. That cardio had really pepped her up, and she felt just about ready for anything! The suggestion to go after the punching bags drew her gaze to them, and a small nod was given at that. "Right." She… might have been walking a little faster than necessary as she moved over to the first one.
Alongside the punching bags were simple gloves meant to correct wrist placement and keep pressure light. Bending down and fishing them up, she spent a moment or two adjusting the Velcro and elastic to fit her hands correctly before rolling her shoulders and staring at the long punching bag again. This type was meant for tests of force and consistency due to the sheer weight of them that kept them from moving too much. The smaller one next to it was meant more for speed and had more of a pivot type apparatus as a result. As much as she wanted to start with speed, the thought of wearing out too fast that way right after cardio kept her from it.
Thunk, bang, swish, thunk. Her left hand was up in a guarded position as she swung mostly with her right. While hardly a professional fighter, she had enough sense of the forms to swing without completely bashing her wrists or knuckles in. Thunk, swish, bang, clunk. She switched it up, guarding then with her right hand and swinging more with her left. The latter was much weaker by default, and it was clear from the noises of the bag, in fact. Easing up some, Dasha frowned just a little before resolving to fix that with as much effort as she could muster up.
Thereafter, if Alex wanted to throw some punches, she'd stand and watch as well. However, the encouragement to find an actual sparring partner had her waving down one of the guys that was not quite a Verian officer but a traveling agent. He seemed a little weary of fighting a girl and even tried very briefly to both acknowledge her strength and work his way out of this, but she was persistent, and Arceus damn if that wasn't enough.
The ring of sorts was about the same consistency as any other boxing ring, and there were more professional gloves to go with it. Changing gloves and getting ready, Dasha smirked ready. The other agent seemed a little warry still but would not have to question Dasha's commitment to this in the least. A quick jab would have him backing up and quickly on guard. A swing was returned, and she was on the move, leaning back, lowering and then socking upwards. It would quickly become apparent to anyone watching that Dasha was very much the more interested and invested opponent.
But perhaps she was wearing herself out too quickly. The other agent got in a good few hits, and it was enough to wind her for a moment or two. A sweeping kick would have her falling back on her ass and having embarrassed color coming to her features. An apology was given, but Dasha refused it. It was part of practice and sparring, or so she reasoned out well enough. This wasn't just her arms after all. Al of her had to be stronger.
What probably should have been maybe a ten or fifteen minute fight went on for almost thirty before both agents eased up and agreed that it had been Enough for now. Dasha was actually tired and vaguely sore already, but her pride in combat wouldn't stop her from quitting just yet. Instead, she came bounding back over to Alex with a grin on her face.

Alex alternated between practicing with Dasha and focusing on watching her with the punching bag. Once she got into a fight, though, and it became clear it would be a long match, some part of Alex shrugged and assumed he'd eventually space out and be thinking on training ideas. ... He was wrong. He was very wrong. His eyes never did stop following her, and by the end he was so invested he was cheering, and a "KICK 'IS ASS!" may have escaped him at least once. Oh no wait was she done already? Uhhh.. Okay shit think quick what now? Fortunately, he had an idea right away. "Fuckin' nice~" he commented as she reached him. "But aight so, I think we should go get some water and take a twenty/thirty minute rest. Maybe a light snack if you're feelin' it. But after that, this place has fencing equipment, yeah?" He assumed so. "The weight and stuff'll be wrong, but if we dual wield the foils we can work on your technique and go all out against a live opponent without too much worry. Once you're comfortable with that hopefully it won't be too hard to translate the movement to real swords."--550 words-- (Full permission to control Alex's fighting against her and critique and stuff ofc.)

Dasha was… admittedly a little hesitant to take a break. As tired as she now was, she very was aware of how tiring stopping and starting would be. Still, she wouldn't fight Alex too much (on that, heh, the thought of sparring them sounded great) and instead went and grabbed a smoothie from the vending machine and sat down for a bit. She tried… a couple of breathing exercises that were supposedly good to relax to and just sorta sat and talked to Alex for a while. She... probably should have blended her own smoothie first and brought it since this one was almost too sugary now that she realized it, but she'd remember that for later.
After a bit, both would get up again, stretching slowly. Dasha actually had to look around a bit and eventually ask one of the gym employees if there was fencing equipment before being directed to the correct storage and security for them. However, everything about the foils seemed standard, and there was even cover up equipment to keep any major damage down. A separate room often used for different sports including Badmitten would be easy enough to get, and thereafter, Dasha and Alex were ready.
Kinda sorta.
Even though foils were light, holding two of them was…weird and hard to position. Alex took a little extra time showing how shifting one's hips and stance just a little made things a little easier and less awkward to move. One of the biggest purposes of dual wielding, after all, was to use one sword to block and the second to strike. They didn't both need to swing each and every time. This was harder to get ahold of in practice than Dasha would ever like to admit to anyone.
After that, though, the fun part was ago. Dasha swung first with her right. Alex blocked rather easily. The flimsiness of the foils made reverberations through the handle, and Dasha fought back the urge to swear. Ok, c'mon, she could get a handle on this. "Remember, it won't be like this with real swords." Right. Foils were lighter but also shifted differently. She'd just… have to remember and get used to it.
Block, swing, blo- opps- It was hard to tell if Alex was smirking, but Dasha was thankful the face guard kept her blush from being exposed. "Keep your blocking sword up a little higher." Right. Dasha shifted her wrist and lunged again into a point. Alex flicked it away and swiped. This time, Dasha shifted just fast enough to block. "There ya go." Alright. She was getting the feel for this now.
Block, swing, side step, block. FSSSSSS- Thin metal reamed down thin metal only to flick off too easily. A frustrated noise escaped from Dasha, but she wasn't going to give up on this just yet. Even if they were equal sizes and difficult to use, she'd learn the forms and flow! Block, swing, block swing- upper block thrust? The second foil pointed, and a "Nice one!" had Dasha grinning. "Yeah!" But she couldn't afford to lose focus now, could she.
Keep your legs apart. Balance. Block then swing. These things repeated in Dasha's mind over and over again as she went through the motions. A quick side step and swing was enough to catch Alex off guard once but not a second time. The more she practiced, however, the more aware Dasha was of how quickly she was learning and mastering these forms and motions. Already, she was considering a different aspect of dual wielding that she'd need to try later: one long and one short sword.
