The end of another long day. Xavier was certainly glad to be off the clock now. After a quick trip back to his house to clean himself he was ready to go cut up at the bar. Hopefully there were some honeys around he could talk to. He’d been rather lacking ‘on the scene’ since arriving in Veria and this simply was unacceptable. Sure, he was a well-seasoned detective for one of the largest and most respected agencies in the world, but what did that mean if he was alone. He was getting tired of his parents’ sly comments ‘If you keep this up, you might as well buy a ring for your desk.’ He’d simply have to do something to ease his parents’ concern. After one last quick check of his tie, shirt, and hair he makes his way into the bar. It was time to see if he still had his charm. It would be much harder without a good wingman, but real men didn’t need any help with that. After he entered Xavier gave a quick look around the decently full bar, seeing if he could meet someone’s eyes. It all started with the eyes, just like a pokemon battle. Then they'd be hooked and the real fun could begin.

YOU'LL HAVE TO RISE ABOVE THE BEST AND PROVE YOURSELF, YOUR SPIRIT NEVER DIES ❝ It had been a looooong day for Sarah. She had been into Faraday earlier in the day to do paperwork at Interpol and then had gone back to Carrefor; done some adventuring with Malik and then had received a phone call from HR saying that the orphanage had screwed up her paperwork for the billionth time. So, she found herself at the local watering hole recommended by the advertisement on the office bulletin board. Though the day had worn her makeup down she still looked respectable; blond hair clipped up at the back of her head and overall unadorned in comparison to the rest of the women in the sports bar. Her eyes scanned the florescent lit room as she took a swig out of her beer bottle. She was situated near the end of the bar with her back to a wall facing the door. Being vigilant meant she liked to keep her back covered and have a vantage point of the comings and goings around her. “You want somethin’ stronger love?” her attention was drawn to the petite brunette bartender with the sweet smile. Probably a false sweetness to get better tips but Sarah appreciated the effort. She nodded lightly and finished off the rest of her beer. “Yeah, lemme have one of your dark larger off tap, please” she said leaning against the counter top. She was wearing simple blue jeans, sneakers, and a simple black v-neck t-shirt. Nothing amazing stood out about this young woman. As the bartender brought her the dark ale she stretched, eyes scanning the room again. She had almost pulled back into her bubble when… well hello…a very sharply dressed man walked into the bar. He was dressed to the nines in comparison to the rest of the patrons and he stood out like a sore thumb. But that wasn’t a bad thing. He was tall, well-polished and handsome. She could see a faint five o-clock shadow but that just added to the appeal. Sarah had never really been in on the romance scene, having bigger responsibilities than frivolities and distractions. Plus, Phenac City had not been the best place to find a love interest other than a delinquent. But, despite her inexperience, she still liked to look when a particular specimen caught her eye…and this specimen did catch her eye. Mildly flustered at that when she realized that she had lingered too long in curiosity and his eyes locked with her own. She smiled softly admitting she had been caught but then she turned her attention back to her drink and the Pokemon battle that was on the TV screen; a Midnight Lycan Rock against a Charizard. Well that was interesting. MADE BY MINNIE OF FTS & GS

Perfect! Not even a full minute in Xavier had found a perfect ‘mark’. Not only was she pretty, she seemed to be alone, which honestly was a little hard to believe. Also, and most importantly, the seat next to her was open. He made his way over to the bar and took the unoccupied seat. Waving the bartender over he orders an Akala Island Iced Tea. Taking a small sip, he turns to the girl sitting next to him, “Oh, this looks like it should be an interesting fight. Looks like it’s at the PWT building. We’re watching some high-end elites here. Who do you think will win?” He turns to the girl, giving a sly and charming smile, “My name is Xavier by the way. May I have the pleasure of knowing yours?” He hoped she actually did like pokemon and didn’t turn her eyes to the screen to play off meeting his gaze earlier. But given what he saw in her stare he felt she wouldn’t mind his presence entirely. He honestly wasn’t expecting too much out of tonight, he’d call it a win if he could just get a phone number.

YOU'LL HAVE TO RISE ABOVE THE BEST AND PROVE YOURSELF, YOUR SPIRIT NEVER DIES ❝ Sarah’s gaze stayed fixed on the TV screen as he approached. Shitshitshit…She hadn’t meant for him to take her gaze as a signal to approach but as he took the seat next to her she felt her nerves flutter in throat. She took a drink of her beer before looking at him with a blank stare for a moment. He smelled good… shit. “Sarah.” She said after a moment and smiled awkwardly. She glanced up at the tv again as the bartender sauntered up to bat her eyes at Xavier and try to flirt terribly. She cringed a little inside, it was desperate girls like that, that made the rest of the gender be taken less seriously. “I haven’t seen the PWT…it looks pretty elite though,” she said eyes watching as the Lycanroc engaged it’s No guard ability and used the move Stone Edge. A wide smile spread across her face as the Charizard was caged within the stone taking a beating from the rock spires. Bjorn would do that one day…if she could ever get him to stop being so head strong. “It’s hard to tell honestly; Charizard is at a type disadvantage but if we’re talkin’ elite League then the trainer has to have an ace up their sleeve to deal with the obvious typing discrepancy.” She said this looking back at him after a moment referring to his earlier conversation starter. He was really good looking…why did he bother sitting next to the frumpy one in the corner? MADE BY MINNIE OF FTS & GS

“Oh? Never been to the PWT building before? I would highly recommend it. Especially if you enjoy watching a heated match. That’s where all of the who’s who of pokemon tend to end up eventually” Xavier lets out a soft chuckle at her assessment of the battle, “Yeah, that sounds exactly like something a gym leader would say. Type matchup is just another hurdle to be jumped.” As he says this the trainer on the screen pushes a gem on their earring and a brilliant light surrounds her Charizard as it mega evolves into its Y form, breaking free from the rocks imprisoning it. Looking very beaten up from the stone edge it manages to quickly gather energy from the harsh sunlight it made and fires a solarbeam at the opponent’s Lycanroc, soundly knocking it out. He turns back over to Sarah, “And… it isn’t a bad way of thinking about those things. Just don’t neglect it.” He sighs, “But look at me prattling about basic strategy.” His gaze becomes inquisitive, “I can’t say I’ve seen you around town. What do you do for a living?” He smiles, “I bet it’s something fun. Girl like you doesn’t strike me as the desk job sort.” He got the impression she didn't have a very high opinion of herself. Xavier didn't understand why though. Did she not normally get attention from men?

YOU'LL HAVE TO RISE ABOVE THE BEST AND PROVE YOURSELF, YOUR SPIRIT NEVER DIES ❝ She grimaced as the Lycanroc went down making a mental note to prepare against an event like that with Bjorn. “Pity, that Lycanroc had promise,” she mused taking another drink. Oh, so now he was trying to gather personal information on her? Well she wasn’t going to give out sensitive information like that to a complete stranger in a bar. “Wouldn’t you like to know?” she questioned facetiously as a smile spread across her face again “Tell ya what, if you can guess correctly I’ll buy you a drink,” she challenged. If he did guess she could always play it off with a follow up and downplay it for a complete different job all together. Technically, she hadn’t had her first day at Interpol so technically she was unemployed. MADE BY MINNIE OF FTS & GS

Xavier gives Sarah an amused look, she had no idea he was a detective. “Hmm, I like guessing games. Do I get to ask some questions first? Or do I have to just shoot in the dark?” He eyes her up and down. “I guess I can start by making some deductions based on what I can tell by looking at you.” “From your current attire I can assume that your job involves a lot of running around and you’ve come here almost immediately afterwards. But not before you changed clothes out of your work attire.” He says, noticing the duffle bag zipped tight near her seat. “Given your lack of current jewelry, despite the piercings in your ears tells me a couple of things. One, that you possibly don’t trust society enough in a setting like this to have valuables on your person, which is a more unlikely scenario. The more likely scenario here is that you simply don’t own a pair you’d feel comfortable wearing here. Given this assessment I’d say you’re curre-“ “Oh come now, detective.” The barkeeper had interrupted him as she slides another drink his way. “Don’t go scaring the girl now. Besides that’s not a very fair contest now is it. I think you should buy her a drink to make up for it.” Xavier laughs, “I suppose you’re right.” He sighs, “Besides, it’s no fun working off the clock.” He turns back to Sarah, “Well, I suppose you have one up on me now and I owe you a drink.” He motions towards the barkeep. “Order up.”

YOU'LL HAVE TO RISE ABOVE THE BEST AND PROVE YOURSELF, YOUR SPIRIT NEVER DIES ❝ So, he was handsome and had very acute deductive skills. She would have to stay aloof and on her toes, he had come dangerously too close for comfort. She grinned wryly nodding to the bartender hiding the surprise and annoyance from his deductions. Was this guy a detective? She hadn’t seen him around Interpol…or had she? All the faces blurred together. “Oh, you think you’re so fancy with your simple observational skills, huh?” She finished off the last little bit of her beer and looked to the bartender “I’ll take a Dr. Pepper please.”She wasn’t going to drink any more alcohol around this guy. She was frustrated with him, looking to the bartender as well, “Get us both a Sweet Kiss too. It’ll go great with that soda.” He wasn’t wrong, it was a shot that was great chased with a sweet soda like Pepper. The drink however earned its name because it was very potent but didn’t taste like it was at all. He could tell she was really on edge with him now. Perhaps he shouldn’t have gone so hard on his skills. Turning back to Sarah, “Hey now, no need to be such a poor sport about this. You didn’t know you were playing at a handicap” raising the shot glass that was handed to him by the bartender, “Cheers” he knocks it back. It was every bit as good as he remembered them being.

YOU'LL HAVE TO RISE ABOVE THE BEST AND PROVE YOURSELF, YOUR SPIRIT NEVER DIES ❝ Her left eyebrow raised as he knocked back the shot and she looked at hers with mild skepticism “Hey, no I am not being a poor sport…I just think it’s amusing that you put all your dollars on superficial details,” she stated it in a playfully snide remark. She neither gave the indication that he was correct in his deductions nor that he was wrong. She smiled again in thanks for the drink and nodded “Cheers,” and then she shot it down surprised by the smoothness of the liquor. He was right that it needed to be chased and she took a couple drinks out of her soda. It was good…really good. Her body loosened up and her posture became more open, may as well let go a little bit and have some fun. “So, Mr. Detective,” she questioned teasingly “what is it you do for a living?” she rested her elbows on the counter clasping her hands and looked at him as she rested the side of her head against her hands. That sparkle of alcohol and eager flirtation visible across her features. She hadn’t had such a fun conversation with a complete stranger like….ever. He was fun and inviting, had kind eyes that where reassuring. Either she was a poor judge of character and he was a serial killer or he was a legitimately nice and casual guy. Not one of those egotist assholes either. MADE BY MINNIE OF FTS & GS NOTES:you can never be too careful...but to hell with it|TAGS: Xavier Lockhart

Xavier smiles, “My dear, the ‘superficial’ details are often the most overlooked and more often still the most important. You can tell a lot about a person by what they are or aren’t wearing, down to the colors they wear in some cases” he leaned back, the liquor starting to warm him as well. He chuckles a bit, “Either you are one of the most unobservant people I’ve come across or you’re being coy. What do you think I do?” He giver Sarah a sly smirk, “I’ll give you a hint, it involves being able to read people and gather information.” This was the most fun he’d had in a good long while. Even if it was just playful banter. It didn’t matter. Something told him he was doing better with her than he thought he was though. Which was in no way a bad thing. Sarah seemed like a winning sort of person.

YOU'LL HAVE TO RISE ABOVE THE BEST AND PROVE YOURSELF, YOUR SPIRIT NEVER DIES ❝ She gave him a mild deadpan before responding “ Well I think your job definitely entails insulting people,” she said bitingly and began to look him over. He was overly dressed for being in a bar like this, either that meant he was pompous, insecure or both; there was the other possibility that he wasn’t making this his last stop either, he was still going places. “Well, one could deduce based on your attire you are either well off in your field or you are trying to compensate for something you are lacking. Though based on the ease of how you present yourself I doubt there is much to compensate for,” she said that as a reflective after thought and saw the bartender’s expression like she was about to die; probably from humiliation but Sarah didn’t care. He had managed to both intrigue her and irk her at the same time. “Overall you are either a salesman in the corporate world, some hotshot detective...or maybe even a League member of some kind. I hear they can be real peaches with social dialogue” She mused this dismissively as the shot smacked her in the face. Oh god alcohol had a way of removing any filters the Sarah had and she wasn’t going to pull any punches. MADE BY MINNIE OF FTS & GS

Xavier nods, realizing maybe he could have spoken more eloquently earlier. “Actually, yes it does… but only sometimes.” He knew she was being sarcastic, but interrogations did sometimes involve antagonizing the subject. Thinking for a bit, “Yeah, I suppose you could say I’m doing relatively well for myself. I dress nice because I like the way it looks and feels though. It doesn’t mean I’m trying to sell you something though, although I can easily see where that assumption could be made.” Stroking his chin, “I wouldn’t say I’m a hotshot detective either. I’m definitely not a member of the pokemon league. I’ve got a pretty good head for pokemon though I think. I am a trainer though.” Jeez, she was really letting it fly wasn’t she. She was still missing the part where the bartender called him a detective though not too long ago, maybe on purpose though. He smiles, “Well, those were some pretty good deductions actually, you came pretty close. Not bad at all for going based solely off my attire and some of my statements. Maybe a career in law enforcement would be good for you if you haven’t considered one already.” It appeared talking about careers was starting to upset her for whatever reason, he’d need to find a way change topics soon somehow.

YOU'LL HAVE TO RISE ABOVE THE BEST AND PROVE YOURSELF, YOUR SPIRIT NEVER DIES ❝ Sarah shrugged and stretched feeling the relief as some of her joints popped; that was a bad idea. Realizing that the liquor wasn’t mixing well with the two beers she had as the room began to spin uncomfortably. Her brow furrowed lightly and she waved to the bartender to clear out her tab. Screw him and his pretty charm. She shouldn’t have let herself get caught up in the moment and drink the shot. She nodded at him “Yeah and for all you know I could be starting at Interpol tomorrow,” she said this with a sarcastic eye roll even though it was the truth of the matter. She sighed softly “I’m sorry I am not going to be much good to you anymore for tonight’s entertainment.” After she said this she began to stand up grabbing for her bag; somehow though her shoe lace had come untied and she stepped down onto it. A look of surprise flashes across Xavier’s face and he jumps immediately into action. He didn’t think the drink would hit her that hard, but she had been there longer than him, but this was some teetotaler stuff though. Well, it was his fault. He’d better take responsibility. Sliding gently to his feet he moves in front of her and catches her firmly against his chest. “Easy there” He says gently, moving a foot back to spread the impact as lightly as possible. “I don’t normally do this; do you have a place you can go that is close by? You aren’t in a state for driving. I doubt the train would be a good idea either. If you don’t, I live close by. You can gather yourself there if you would like.” Helping Sarah to her feet the rest of the way and sliding his card to the bartender to close his tab out too. “Let’s get you taken care of, yeah?” chuckling softly, “I don’t have my usual proof with me, but I can assure you I am someone you can trust.” Returning his card, the bartender chimes up, “Detective Lockhart is good people, sweetie. I’d trust him. He won’t try to take advantage of shit. And I don’t say that about just anybody.”
