YOU'LL HAVE TO RISE ABOVE THE BEST AND PROVE YOURSELF, YOUR SPIRIT NEVER DIES ❝ So, these were the Liggs Mines, huh? Sarah found herself in yet another new and strange place quite different from what Orre had been like. Work kept her busy though out and about following leads and doing general laws work. However, the job for the day had been accomplished and Sarah had wanted to explore the mountains and mines eager to take in the sights. She was also curious about what sort of Pokémon could be found in these mines, rumor had it the occasional fighting type could be found and that interested her greatly. She didn’t know where her partner for the day had gone off too and she was rather relieved to have a moment to herself. It still frustrated her that the first man she had, had a slight (that was a load of crock) inclination towards ended up being a coworker with tenure. Fan friggin perfect. She had her Rockruff, Bjorn, out with her as they walked. She had a flashlight in hand to illuminate the path in front of them. MADE BY MINNIE OF FTS & GS |

So, the rookie, (Sarah, he wasn’t at work anymore, her name is Sarah) wanted to go explore the Liggs mines after hours? Well he supposed he should tag along. Xavier enjoyed spending time with her for one, and two he hadn’t given the mines a proper look either. Maybe he’d find something valuable here. “Oh, there you are. I’d worried you would run in the mines before I even got here.” She had been eager to run off and left him behind. Glad to see you waited up for me. You seem frustrated, something wrong?” He gave her a mildly concerned look. Hopefully his leisurely pace hadn’t upset her. His growlithe, Skoll had caught up and started playing with Sarah’s rockruff. “Shall we begin?”

YOU'LL HAVE TO RISE ABOVE THE BEST AND PROVE YOURSELF, YOUR SPIRIT NEVER DIES ❝ Well that was short lived. Sarah spun around shining the flashlight into his face. Her expression was that of mild surprise; both from being startled as she thought she was alone, and the other from the fact he opted to tag along instead of doing his own thing. “Oh, no nothing’s wrong…just trying to get my bearings…new places and all that.” She stated it in a rather nonchalant tone trying to mask the awkwardness she felt. Fortunately, the sound of the two pups playing drew her attention from him. She released a whistle and Bjorn came in line beside her “Let’s go,” she said motioning to Bjorn and then looked to Xavier “I actually thought you were heading back to wherever.” She played off her butterflies with a general conversational tone. She still maintained some of her on-the-clock rigidity however she had changed out of her office attire of a clean, gray blazer, navy shirt, and gray slacks into loose khaki cargo pants, a black tank top, and sneakers. Her hair clip had been replaced with a ponytail. She heard Bjorn let out a sudden bark of aggression and she followed him just in time to see a Tyrogue use Fake Out on Bjorn as it jumped out from behind a rock. It looked eager for a battle and assumed an aggressive pose. “Show ‘im what your made of Bjorn, use Rock Climb,” Sarah had forgotten about Xavier for the moment wrapped up in the fight. Bjorn charged at the wild Pokemon faster than its reflexes would allow and solidly kicked the tyrogue back into the mine wall. The tyrogue grunted, taking the hit solidly and then leapt at the offending Rockruff with a tackle sufficiently pinning Bjorn to the floor of the cave. Struggling aggravatedly against the tyrogue, Bjorn whipped his head around and bite the tyrogue wrist with a sickening Crunch. “You’ve got him Bjorn, finish him off with stone edge and get out of there,” Sarah commanded firmly, there was a fire in her eyes that many trainers exhibited when training their team. Bjorn responded to Sarah’s command releasing the Tyrogue and it pushed back at Bjorn with Fake Out again. Bjorn was pushed back taking the pummels, he looked roughed up but nothing major, and proceeded to use Stone Edge. The tyrogue was sufficiently locked within the spires and landed with a thud in the dirt as the stones stopped moving. “Good job Bjorn,” she praised as she tossed out a pokeball to the fainted pokemon. He would make an excellent first partner on her project she had undertaken. As Bjorn finished his battle he sniffed around the rock the tyrogue had been behind to find a Meditite guarding a pile of crystals. He backed away looking to Xavier and Sarah alerting them to the presence of the other pokemon. As soon as Sarah’s rockruff turned around the other pokemon made its presence known, it was a meditite. It came running out from behind another nearby rock, apparently guarding the recently discovered loot, charging at the rockruff. He couldn’t let this happen, despite the fact they were not at work anymore, Xavier still felt responsible for her wellbeing and, naturally, this extended to her pokemon as well. Besides, it was his job as a gym leader too. “Skoll, Stop its advance with a flare blitz! GO!” Immediately the growlithe started charging to intercept the meditite, flames wreathing its body as it does. Flames explode out from the growlithe as it hits the meditite, sending it recoiling back. “Skoll, follow through with Crunch! You’re doing great!” Xavier begins rummaging though his backpack to find a pokeball. Meanwhile Skoll bites into the meditites’ arm. Not to be taken lightly however, the meditite twirls, using reversal against Skoll and throwing it into a boulder. Making use of the distraction Xavier throws the pokeball at the meditite.

YOU'LL HAVE TO RISE ABOVE THE BEST AND PROVE YOURSELF, YOUR SPIRIT NEVER DIES ❝ Bjorn hadn’t attacked the little Meditite because he was busy with a different matter entirely. He began to glow and grow until the runt of a Rockruff grew to its imposing height. This was about the time Xavier successfully caught the Meditite. He let out a howl of pleasure and look to Sarah, his alpha, for approval. Sarah didn’t get much of a chance to respond though just as what appeared to be the momma of the Meditite jumped out from behind the stone, a Throh was coming up behind them having heard the sound of a battle. Sarah quickly recalled the freshly evolved Bjorn not wanting to risk overexerting him just yet, though she was sure he could handle it. She just didn’t want to put him in undo risk after such an exhausting process. “Looks like you ticked the mom off taking her baby,” Sarah commented pressing the button to Hope ball and calling out the Cubone. Just as the Meditite dashed forward towards the opposing Growlithe using Ice Punch. “Hope, use your Bonemerang don’t let it hit you or the Growlithe,” Sarah yelled. She didn’t know the name of Xavier’s Pokémon but she wouldn’t let a partner get taken out by such a shot. He had done the same for Bjorn. Hope flung her Bone and it intercepted the Medicham’s attack, it reared at hope its left-hand crackling with electricity. Hope’s bonemerang came back to her and hit the Medicham for a second time on the back of the head. However, this didn’t stop the Medicham from making a punch at the Cubone. Hope wasn’t adept enough to dodge the incoming blow and was pushed back by the force of the punch taking minor damage from the lightening. As the Medicham was up close on the Cubone she rammed her head into the Medicham’s and managed to flinch the Pokémon throwing it back again. Hope took the Medicham’s momentary daze to use Focus Energy and then another bonemerang. This hit the flinched Pokémon twice with two sickening cracks and sent the medicham to the ground in a pile of limbs and bruises. Sarah tossed an ultraball at the KO’d Pokémon. If the catch was successful she would have caught two adept Pokémon for her new team she was compiling. Sarah was busy fighting the Medicham, looks like that left the Throh to him. It should be a fun fight. He didn’t particularly need it for his team, so he probably wouldn’t wind up catching it. It certainly seemed aggressive though. What kind of treasure stash did they stumble upon that was worth such a tight guard? “Yeah, looks like we pissed the whole area off.” Skoll was too injured for Xavier to feel safe having him continue battling, especially against something as hardy and dangerous as a Throh. “You did good buddy, take a breather.” He said, recalling the pup. Looking at a ball he’d only recently acquired from the breeding project his mother worked on for his recent appointment as a gym leader. “Let’s see what you can do. Go, Bahamut!” A Charmander springs forth from the pokeball, ready and eager for action, its tail burning brightly and a fierce determination in its eyes. He knew it would be a rough fight for the little guy, but he really couldn’t say no to that determination. “Ok, let’s get his attention! Inferno!” The Charmander takes a deep breath then opens its mouth to unleash a hellish torrent of flames towards the throh, who lets out a roar of protest and starts rushing towards the Charmander, burns covering its body. “Bahamut, confuse it with a smokescreen and retaliate with dragon pulse!” Nodding its head in understanding the Charmander puffs out a cloud of smoke, surrounding the 2 and making it impossible to tell what was going on inside. Thankfully it wasn’t large enough to impact Sarah’s fight. She was doing a great job dealing with the medicham. He was thoroughly impressed with her skill so far. He was looking forward to getting his gym built so he could fight her there. After a short period of time a blue hued light shines forth from the smoke cloud as it begins to dissipate. Bahamut, very pleased with himself is standing over the KO’D throh. “Good job buddy! Im really proud of you!” He ran over to his Charmander, scooped it up, careful to mind the tail, and scratched its belly as it made contented trilling sounds. Putting Bahamut down he goes over to the treasure they worked so hard to get a proper look at. “Hmm, a bunch of crystals and stones it looks like. I don’t think we should take all of it. I doubt they’d mind us taking a couple items from it though since we beat them in combat.” Picking up a rather intense looking orb and a small red crystal, “I’ll take these, they look valuable. Perhaps I can find a collector of some kind” Turning to Sarah as she pocketed her share of the loot, “Shall we go further?” he said, motioning in towards the tunnel in front of them.

YOU'LL HAVE TO RISE ABOVE THE BEST AND PROVE YOURSELF, YOUR SPIRIT NEVER DIES ❝ After the battle with the Medicham, Hope waddled up to Sarah and tugged at her pants expressing her desire to be picked up. Sarah complied and picked the little Cubone up while Xavier finished the battle with the Throh. He was certainly an impressive and competent fighter; however, that did nothing to ease the agitation she had at the fact they were both Interpol agents. That made it difficult for her to want to open up and be friendly outside of the working environment. Regardless of the minor girlish “crush” she wasn’t going to let it jeopardize her position. They worked together, the dynamic was purely professional, except for the fact he had tagged along on an afterhours excursion. She had heard that he was a new transfer, had only been at HQ for about a month. What did you talk about with someone outside of work? She was pulled out of her thoughts hearing him praising his Charmander. She smiled softly looking down at Hope who had nestled in her arms comfortably and watched with wide curiosity at the two males. Hope offered her the two stones she had found and Sarah pocketed them as Xavier examined the other stones. “Interesting things, aren’t they?” she mused about Pokémon in general as she hefted the Cubone to her hip like a mother would to a heavy toddler. She raised an eyebrow at his flourish. She wasn’t used to a man acting the way that he was; taking the affirmative lead as well as taking her opinion into consideration. It was refreshing to say the least. She was a woman who had learned to take the initiative herself having been alone for the majority of her life and having Malik that she opted to care for. She didn’t challenge his leadership though and she followed along putting trust in her partner. As they walked deeper into the mines Sarah looked over to him and let the curiosity get the best of her “What brought you to Veria?” If he had a chance to answer it was quickly cut off by the frightened sounds of a little Cubone clutching onto its surrogate mother as the fearsome growls of a Lyrcanroc reverberated through the tunnel. Sarah took a protective stance to shield Hope away from the wild Pokémon wherever it might be. Better for her to take the hit than let Hope get hurt. MADE BY MINNIE OF FTS & GS |

As Xavier opened his mouth to answer her question a savage snarling could be heard further ahead in the tunnel. It was definitely a canine pokemon of some kind that was for sure. “Be on your guard.” His tone sounded a bit more severe and commanding than he intended for it to be. Sarah wasn’t a pokemon to be commanded. Traveling forward and coming around a natural bend in the tunnel they came upon a strange looking lycanroc attacking a dunsparce. The small, fairy-winged pokemon was doing its best to try and escape the canine. Before he even realized what he was doing, “Bahamut, let’s get its attention. Dragon pulse, then hit it with an inferno!” A dazzling blue light shoots forth from the charmander’s mouth, striking the lycanroc and gaining its attention. Growling angrily, licking its teeth threateningly, the lycanroc starts towards bahamut with exceptional speed. As it does Charmander sends forth a blazingly intense blast of flame in the lycanroc’s face. The beast was still coming though. This thing was tenacious! “Once more Bahamut! Inferno!” The fire on charmander’s tail burned with great intensity as the second inferno blazed over the savage lycanroc and the beast stopped its charge at charmander’s feet, defeated by the onslaught. “I can’t say I’ve ever encountered a lycanroc quite like this.” He throws an ultra ball at it to attempt to capture this odd specimen. Looking around quickly, “Is everyone alright? Is anyone hurt?” going up to charmander, “How are you little guy, you doing ok? He didn’t hurt you did he?”

YOU'LL HAVE TO RISE ABOVE THE BEST AND PROVE YOURSELF, YOUR SPIRIT NEVER DIES ❝ Sarah put Hope down, much to the little Cubone’s protest, and she walked over to the Dunsparce to examine it and make sure that it was alright. She had walked past Xavier and Hope had toddled behind her but stopped at Xavier and grabbed onto his knee when she saw Sarah inspecting the other Pokémon. Determining that the Dunsparce was only a little shaken and would be alright Sarah turned around to face him. He had a good, healthy bond with his Pokémon and what was even more surprising was Hope interacting with him. She was a very shy, very wary little mon so it took her by surprise that she would seek shelter with a stranger when she had felt too intimidated to pursue Sarah. “Yeah, everyone’s fine. The Dunsparce is a little spooked but it has no serious injuries…”MADE BY MINNIE OF FTS & GS |

Noticing there was something tugging on his leg he looks down. Sarah’s very frightened looking cubone was holding on to him tightly. “Hey there, it’s ok. The scary thing is gone. He’s a friend now. Nothing to worry about.” He was going to say more, but he was cut short by a bright light near by that had engulfed his charmander. He was evolving it seemed. Seeing the bright light, the dunsparce quickly burrows into the ground backwards. Growing larger and more intimidating, Bahamut becomes visible again. A charmeleon where his Charmander once stood. “Look at you! What a dedicated pokemon you are! I’m really glad you’re on my team Bahamut.” He hugs his charmeleon. Evolution was a sign of a strong bond between pokemon and trainer, definitely not something Xavier would take for granted. “How are you feeling now Bahamut? I know evolving can be pretty tiring. You want to take it easy for a bit or are yo-“ Bahamut playfully punched Xavier in the shoulder to cut him off. He wasn’t done that easy. “Well then… let’s keep going. Glad everyone is ok.” He stands up, smiling brightly, and begins to walk on.
