Festivals were nothing new for Nox. There had been an annual Harvest Festival in Wisteria Town that he had more or less enjoyed. The most recent one, however, had been little more than a painful reminder of the relationship he'd built with someone starting the previous year at that very festival. And then that someone had left and not returned. They'd kept in contact for awhile but eventually the contact had dwindled and Nox had been unable to reach his lover. It wasn't unusual to be able to get a hold of Karjan, of course. The man often disappeared into ruins where phone service was limited and didn't resurface until he needed to. But days turned into weeks and weeks turned into months and he'd heard nothing from Karjan. When he'd been injured in the line of duty, no one had been able to reach him and Nox had suffered through his injury and recovery alone.

And now he was here. He'd left his life in Eden behind to try and start over here in Veria. And what was the first thing he was assigned to do? Patrol this Starlight Festival for signs of illegal activity and keep an eye out for the strange creatures known as 'Ultra Beasts' as one had, apparently, been sighted in relation to the Festival. All the information he had, however, seemed more like rumor and speculation than actual fact. Still, if he was told to be on the lookout for these creatures, he would do it. It was his duty as a ranger to be sure the people and pokemon of Veria were safe. So, with Noire and Sorey at his side like they always were, the ranger patrolled the outskirts of the festival area keeping an eye out for anything unusual.

As he walked, movement ahead caught his attention. He couldn't tell what it was, whether it was a person or a pokemon or if it was anything he needed to be concerned about. Since he was heading in that direction anyway, it would't hurt to just check things out and make sure everything was fine. If it was a wild pokemon he could make sure it wasn't hurt or something. If it was a person or a tame pokemon, he could make sure they weren't in trouble. And if it was one of the Ultra Beasts he'd been told to keep an eye out for he'd figure out some way to deal with that as well.
