Anna didn't know what to do.
How could she live with herself... knowing that had she stayed behind in her Gym she could have been on that mission? Had she answered Mia's calls... had she not been so... childish...
How could she live with herself?
That thought had been racing through her mind all day. Training was taking a backseat, as was... well, everything. Everything was numb. She had no idea how long she had been sitting there, tracing her finger over the rim of the glass, waiting for her body to just move. To just do something.
But how could she face Mia now? It was her fault she had lost her arm. It was her fault she had gone on that mission without Anna there to help her. And even if she had been there... what could she have done? Would she have pushed her out of the way? Taken the blow for her? Tears streaked down her cheeks now, fingers gripping the top of the glass and hurling it to her right with an almighty scream of anguish. The shattering glass pierced the inaction around her heart... sending her into a frenzy of desperate movement. She didn't know where she was going or what she was doing. She just had to go.
Karin wasn't here. Frankly Anna hadn't been paying attention as to where she went, her mind had been so... empty ever since she heard. All the scenarios she could think of playing in her head... all the noise and the chaos but that one moment of heroism. That one moment where Anna could save her... and it would never come. There would just be the sight of Mia getting hurt. Over and over again. While she did nothing.
She found herself on the back of her Scolipede, what seemed like several miles out of Carrefor now. Had she been travelling for that long? Her stomach rumbled and she could feel Scolipede's heavy breathing as it strained itself to continue. But it hadn't let it's trainer down yet... ever since they were both little. And she know it wasn't going to let her down now.
--------
Tiredly she made her way up the steps to the Liggs hospital, legs shaking somewhat. She was so cold... so tired... she felt so heavy. But her task hadn't been completed yet. With a flash of red, the near-unconscious Scolipede returned to it's Pokeball, leaving her alone to trudge the halls of the hospital like a zombie, leaning against the desk of the receptionist for support.
"Let me... see Mia Kearney... please..." The nurse at the desk paused, looking her up and down and began telling her to take a seat so that the doctors could examine her. Anna's fingers curled into fists, growling harshly. "NOW!" She jumped, as did a few people in the waiting room behind her, which normally would have left Anna a little embarrassed, but she was far too tired for that now.
With a short sigh, the nurse directed her to the hall on the left, which Anna continued down without another word, eventually reaching the door to Mia's room. Yet she hesitated... she didn't know what to do... what she would say. This was her fault after all... would she even want to see her?
With a deep breath she opened it... and stood in the doorway in silence, tears streaking down her face.

Mia had been in the hospital a few days now, League had sent our word about her injury, a basic email you might send colleagues in an office to tell them to be careful around a poorly member of staff or someone who'd just lost a loved one, information pretty bare minimal, especially given the nature of the mission she was on when she was injured. For the most part Mia was...doing okay. She still shifted hard from a 'lets make jokes' mindset to potentially crying into her pillow when she instinctively reached out with her right arm to grab something but...it was gonna be a long process. Apparently they were gonna start teaching her new handling techniques tommorrow, and run a few tests so they could start building her a prosphetic now that her wounds had started to heal up, especially the work from the surgery to close over her open arm..
For now though...she was just having some quiet. Her family weren't likely to visit for another hour and she was sure Nik had something he had to do, though he had been sure to send plenty of texts to let her know he was thinking of her...ugh. Why had she been so stupid to lash out about her dumb shit in the first place...she'd still have her arm if she'd just fucking...BREATHED....
No...no used spiking the heart monitor for...what? The fifth time today? They'd finally stopped needing to sedate her half the day, she wasn't about to give them reason to start doing that again.
Reaching over for her headphones, Mia just thought to listen to some music, close her eyes, and calm herself down until her dad got here, jolting as the door practically slammed open and...Anna!? She hadn't heard from the other gym leader in ages!? "A-anna?! Are...are you okay hun...?"
It was easy enough to see Mia's state from the door, her head bandages had come off and she was allowed to wear her own clothes now, so she was sitting in an orange tanktop. Her body had several stitched up wounds and a pretty serious bruise up along her left side, on her right side, her arm was bandaged about the elbow point, anything below that point simply...non existant.

A numbness washed over her as she saw the extent of the injuries... a numbness that made her almost collapse. Luckily she still had a firm grip on the door, though it was very clear her hand was shaking, tears continuing to flow. She hesitated there for a moment, considered running away. What if Mia didn't want to see her? What if she blamed her? What if-...
Had... she just asked how she was? Surely that wasn't the pressing issue here, considering Mia was now... minus a limb. There was something so striking about the sight that Anna was forced to stand there in silence for a few seconds, trying to process it. She had heard rumors about the extent of the damage but... this was bad. Far worse than any of those rumors had said. Suddenly she knew how per parents must have felt when she was laid up in hospital after losing her eye. Dejection. Horror. Guilt.
Finally she stepped forward, letting the door swing shut behind her, stumbling forward and gripping onto the end of the bed rail, finally collapsing into a chair and feeling the tired weight of her body. She could barely move... everything hurt... nothing would respond to her properly. Yet her mind was kept sharply aware of what was going on, as if the missing arm was jamming a needle deep into her brain.
"M-mia... I'm sorry..." That was all she could manage to squeak out, squeezing her eyes shut as more tears refused to come, as if she had no more to give. Instead she was just left hollow-eyed and strangely fidgety. She let a few seconds pass before she tried to speak again but with a gulp even as her body tried desperately to force more tears out, Anna finally managed to speak. "This was... this was my fault. I shouldn't have disappeared... I could have been there to help... on whatever the mission was."
Sliding her hands across her face, Anna stared at the floor, instinctively gripping onto her headphones as if to pull them down over her ears again, but she simply sat there squeezing them... as some form of ritual comfort. How could she call herself a Gym Leader if she couldn't even protect her friend? If she couldn't even protect... the woman she cared about.

Watching Anna move deeper into the room, Mia was wondering if she was still a little out of it since she didn't feel she was fully able to process what Anna was saying. Was she...blaming herself for this? As Anna got within range, Mia instinctively reached up to grab the girl and pull her in, quickly recalling the leather strap keeping her tied to the bed given her multiple attempts to leave before she was sedated, letting out a deep sigh and curling up her fingers for a moment, eaching out to Anna's side instead and tugging at her with surprising strength given her current situation, bringing Anna closer and making her lean down till Mia could reach her head, pulling it down against her chest and just quietly petting the girl's head.
She didn't know why she 'dissapeared' but...she didn't wanna see Anna crying either.
