"I hear your voice on the wind, And I hear you call out my name..."
Celeste's voice drifted through the cool night air as she walked through the roads of Caravella, her notes haunting and almost mournful. Dressed in mostly black, from her coat, to her gloves, to her jeans, to her heavy boots, she could have blended in with the shadows with little effort if it weren't for the way every available light source saw fit to reflect off of her bright red hair, her ponytail acting as a visual beacon just as much as her singing was acting as an auditory one.
"'Listen my child,' you say to me, 'I am the voice of your history Be not afraid, come follow me Answer my call and I'll set you free'"
It was well past midnight, and Celeste, unable to sleep, had decided to explore this new city, so very different from Carrefor, or anywhere else she had been (that she could remember...), in the way she tended to: by picking a direction and going. Through the twists and turns of Caravella's streets, over cobblestones and dirt paths, she'd managed to, quite unintentionally, find her way into the darker, dirtier, poorer parts of town, where all the shadows were just a little bit deeper, and dangerous things seemed to lurk around every corner, some of those things wearing all-too-human faces.
"I am the voice in the wind and the pouring rain, I am the voice of your hunger and pain. I am the voice that always is calling you, I am the voice, I will remain."
Celeste was carrying Lucky, the sableye limp in her arms like some kind of stuffed toy--from a distance, he would likely be easy to mistake for one, until someone got close enough to see the spark of light in his gemstone eyes--as he enjoyed the attention from his trainer, as well as her singing. She would give him a little squeeze every time she paused to choose a new path to follow, treating the docile little ghost like a security blanket.
Not that she was scared, tonight. Far from it. It was more that she was lonely.
"I am the voice in the fields when the summer's gone, The dance of the leaves when the autumn winds blow. Ne'er do I sleep throughout all the cold winter long, I am the force that in springtime will grow..."
Celeste vaguely remembered times from before her Fall, when she would stroll through cities in the dead of night. Nocturnal pokemon had flocked to her once, and she was hoping they would again. She held out hope that more old friends would have been scattered to here, ghosts and ghouls that she missed dearly despite the details of their memories being blurry in her mind.
But new ones would not be unwelcome, either...
"I am the voice of the past that will always be, Filled with my sorrow and blood in my fields. I am the voice of the future, Bring me your peace. Bring me your peace and my wounds, they will heal..."

Ty'd been in Caravella for a few days now, and he had to admit he was growing to like it. Of course he couldn't stay there forever because drifting was just in his nature, but as it stood...not a bad setup, and there were plenty of suckers ripe for the taking. But even all-day suckers got wise eventually, so that was why he needed to move, scattered with the wind.
It was late, and Ty couldn't sleep, so he'd left the room he'd rented for the night to take a little walk. He was learning some of the neighborhoods and their little twists and turns, and he kept his Pokemon with him at all times, so he was prepared for anything.
Except singing. Singing? Who the hell was singing at this time of night? In this type of neighborhood?
Stuffing his hands into the pockets of his black jacket, his scarred face was unobscured by his shades as they scanned the area, following the source of the singing. Shades didn't really work in the dark anyway, so maybe that would shroud his otherwise handsome face. Not that the scars didn't look badass.
As he turned the corner, he spotted a girl holding what looked to be a stuffed animal. "Hey, are you trying to get yourself in trouble? Singing somewhere like this, at this time of night?" he said, his voice a low hiss, but the tone was mostly cautionary.
He told himself he didn't really care about people, but when pretty silly people walked around doing stuff like singing in the dead of midnight, well something had to be done, right?

"I am the voice in the wind and the pouring rain, I am the voice of your hunger and pain. I am the voice that always is calling you, I am the--"
Celeste's song broke off with a startled squeak when a man rounded the corner and came into view, and she automatically took a step back before she even registered what he was saying to her. Her 'stuffed animal,' for his part, reacted to the human's hiss with a twitch of his pointed ears and a sudden flare of the light in his eyes, followed by pulling back his lips to reveal his row of pointed teeth and hissing right back.
Distracted from the stranger's scolding by the angry sableye in her arms, she looked down at him and gave him one of her little, affectionate squeezes. "Shhh, Lucky. It's okay," she soothed, and he fell silent and still again, though his eyes were now locked on the strange man rather than staring straight ahead as he had been.
Then, Celeste looked back up again, staring at the stranger. Not around him, as she tended to, but directly at him, blinking her large, so very bright eyes, unsure of how to respond. She wondered, just for a moment, how he'd react if she said that, yes, she was trying to get into trouble. Not that she was, not really--ending up in quite so bad a part of town had been an accident on her part, after all--but she had certainly considered the idea that drawing such blatant attention to herself could draw the wrong sort of attention as well.
She was just confident that she could handle it. Maybe, just a little bit, she even relished the chance to cut loose and get into a fight with someone who she wouldn't feel guilty about hurting later. This world seemed altogether less...magical than her own, less likely to have the kind of things lurking in the dark that would truly give her pause, and there was no way, after the effort that had presumably gone into bringing her here, she was going to just end up dying in an alley somewhere. That wasn't how things worked.
Not how they worked back home, at least...
"I'm trying," Celeste said, voice soft but steady, as she adjusted her grip on Lucky and lightly petted the top of his head, "To find pokemon. Ghost and dark types are more active at night, and some are drawn to music." It all seemed very logical to her, though she was still a little bit embarrassed at having been caught doing it, since she'd just been reminded how ridiculous the method looked to an outsider.

He could have sworn that 'stuffed-animal' moved, so at least the girl had some Pokemon with her and wasn't totally useless. There was a lot of silence, so Ty could only assume that he'd startled this poor girl, but to be honest, it was better him than someone with bad intentions. Sure, he wasn't a saint by any means, but he wasn't about to take advantage of someone like this. Even a jackass of his caliber had standards.
"That, I can get behind; I've found some here not too long back, but that was in the middle of the day. But...I don't know about the music part..." His hand idly ran through his stubble as he looked at her. Before saying another word, he pulled a Pokeball off of his belt and in a flash, Blazer, his Arcanine was by his side.
"You want to find some Pokemon? Then lead the way, we're coming with you." His voice was polite, but it was firm, and he definitely wasn't asking her permission. If she was going to do something this crazy, she may as well have some backup to watch out for her silly ass.

Celeste frowned when told by the strange man that he 'didn't know' about the music. The effects of music on pokemon was well-documented...or at least it had been, where she'd come from. She hadn't thought to research whether things such as the pokeflute and its variants existed here, because it hadn't seemed like something to question. True, her singing was a poor substitute for such items, but similar principles applied.
And then there was a doggie. The flash of the pokeball startled her and briefly put her back on edge, but when she saw the resulting pokemon, Celeste let out a soft gasp, her eyes widening in glee. It would be unfair to say that she didn't hear the next words spoken, but it would be fair to say that dealing with them dropped down her priority list. As did the person uttering them, who may as well have ceased to exist for the next few seconds.
Rather than lead them all anywhere, she took a couple of strides closer instead, though she still kept a polite distance, as she knew not all trained pokemon liked strangers getting right up in their faces. "Well, hello there, big fella," Celeste cooed at the arcanine with a sweet voice drenched in the purest of adoration, "You're such a cute, fluffy puppy dog, aren't you? Yes you are. You gonna help me find some ghosties, puppy-puppy?"
Lucky stirred again at this, twitching his ears and peering up at the big dog with a curious chirring noise. Unlike before, there wasn't an ounce of hostility in him, as his trainer's tone and body language made clear that the large canine was a potential friend, not enemy, and Lucky very much liked making friends.
Celeste knew that she should be frustrated with this turn of events, and on some level, she was. The entire point of her not marching down the street with her full team out had been to be nonthreatening, to better coax any potential new friends out of the shadows if they happened to be skittish. Now, she'd have a man with a fully-evolved pokemon following her around like bodyguards, and she knew the kind of tone he'd spoken with well enough to know that it would come down to intentionally losing them in the winding streets if she wanted to rid herself of their presence, which she knew she'd feel far too guilty about to consider actually doing.
But...he was trying to help. Someone wanted to help her. And he had a doggie.
She couldn't be upset at that.

Her frown led him to infer that he wasn't exactly welcome with her, but if she hated him, yet came out of this alive, then as far as he was concerned he didn't do a bad job. Part of him said just let this sort itself out and whatever happened, happened. But for some reason, he just couldn't bring himself to do that. Maybe somewhere deep down, he still had some remnant of a heart.
With Arcanine by his side, he noticed she wasn't leading them anywhere. In fact...she was sweet-talking Blazer, who showed what a big baby he was by letting his tongue loll out of his mouth happily. Sure, he was Ty's go-to Pokemon, his guard dog, in a sense. But deep down he was an overgrown puppy, though maybe that wasn't a bad thing. Especially not with how she was acting toward an Arcanine she didn't know.
"I see you like Blazer," he said with a smirk. Maybe it was a good thing he decided to help. Besides, it'd been awhile since he'd had company, especially of the female variety. But he brushed the sad thoughts from his mind; maybe they'd find some action to distract him soon.

Celeste giggled softly as the arcanine's tongue lolled out, and she was about to see about getting into petting range when his trainer spoke up again and reminded her of his presence. At first, she felt a little sheepish, as, while she'd always been prone to cooing over dogs, she rarely came on quite so strongly upon first meeting one. But tonight, she'd looked at Blazer and she'd seen...
Her own.
His.
Hers.
All of them, the blended pack that they'd all put together, some related and many not. Pelts of white, black, red, and golden, some wilder in origin and others domestically bred. There'd been a little one, not evolved yet, one of his, and Celeste kept trying to picture her clearly, trying to remember her name...
"I...like arcanine. A lot." The words were no longer cooing. Her tone was subdued, quiet, reflecting the way her posture drew inward slightly as her gaze dropped and she gave Lucky yet another squeeze. "I used to ride them." A small shake of the head, to try to toss the thoughts away, and Celeste turned away from man and dog alike.
He was trying to help. He could scare away trouble, or he could scare away what she was looking for. He could be effective backup if she managed to get into trouble anyway, or he could just be another target, another person to get hurt. A decision made, Celeste knelt down, placing Lucky on the ground. Instantly, he became much more animated, scurrying in a circle around her legs and making a series of squeaking noises, and she gave him a small scratch behind his ear. "Stay close, and eyes on the shadows," she instructed, knowing that he saw in the dark better than any of them.
Celeste looked back again at her unexpected companions. She pushed part of her coat away from her hip, showing the first glimpse of the pokeballs that lined her belt, and plucked one of them, but didn't activate it. Then, she looked forward again and, once she remembered which path she'd been wanting to take, started down it.
It took a number of steps for her to wrestle with her embarrassment at singing in front of another human, especially one who'd taken such a dim view of the method. It took a few more for her to choose a new song. But, eventually, notes of longing rang through the night again.
"I pirouette in the dark, I see the stars through a mirror. Tired mechanical heart, Beats til the song disappears.
Somebody shine a light, I'm frozen by the fear in me. Somebody make me feel alive, And shatter me."

Ty noticed how forlorn the young woman seemed when she laid eyes on the Arcanine, and then explained how much she liked them. He gave a nod, and answered softly, more kindly than he'd spoken yet--or in a long time for that matter. "Yeah, I can understand. This big guy here was my first Pokemon."
Then he turned to Blazer, and the two of them followed the woman, but they didn't follow closely, just so she never left their sight. More or less, he was just there to watch over her, and if anything that piqued his interest came their way, then maybe he'd have a go at it. And of course he'd be there to run defense if she found herself in a tight spot. After all....he wasn't too sure how well she could handle herself. Sure, looks could be deceiving, but her methods so far were....questionable at best.
He stayed right behind her, with the Arcanine by his side as they walked, like a pair of bodyguards. There was a Pidove not far from them, but those didn't really pique his interest. Not really his style. He wasn't sure how she felt though, or what she was even looking for.
Then, out of an alley, he saw a Houndour that didn't seem to notice them at first. He paused, dead in his tracks as he looked at it. It reminded him of his own Spitfire. He'd have to make sure to reunite with the rest of his team soon, but...sometimes it brought back painful memories.
The redhead shook those memories from his mind. Right now, there were more important things to focus on.

His first pokemon.
That thought occupied Celeste as she walked and sang, her hand briefly touching the pokeball with her own first within it, considering grabbing it up alongside the one she was already holding. She'd been fortunate enough to find Jasmine quickly, in the first nights wandering Carrefor and calling forlornly into the dark, and remained grateful for her presence. The little chikorita--forever a little chikorita, having refused to evolve despite the power it could grant her--had always been a steadfast companion, at Celeste's side without hesitation when needed and looking after her interests at the team base when not.
The bond between a trainer and their first pokemon, in her experience, was intense and unbreakable.
And, then, she remembered. His arcanine, mother of the little one who Celeste had been trying so hard to picture...she'd been his first pokemon, too, hadn't she?
"So cut me from the line, Dizzy, spinning endlessly. Somebody make me feel alive And shatter me!"
The pain of that particular memory falling into place was postponed, because that was when Celeste noticed a pidove perched on the windowsill of a nearby building, watching the assembled beings in that wide-eyed way that the species tended to. She paused to stare back at the bird, then smiled and held up a hand, giving a small wave and then holding it out in offering. The pidove tilted his head at this gesture and cooed softly, not moving right away but clearly not put off.
"If only the clockworks could speak, I wouldn't be so alone." Celeste kept up the singing, though she was no longer projecting her voice like a beacon, instead singing more softly for the little bird alone. The pidove cooed again at the serenade and, to her delight, fluttered over to take her up on her offer and land on her gloved hand. "We burn every magnet and spring, and spiral into the unknown." More cooing followed, as if the bird pokemon were trying to sing along with her.
While Celeste did her whole Disney Princess routine over there, Lucky noticed the other arrival. The wild houndour looked a bit preoccupied, lost in thought and spaced out, but since she didn't seem hostile, Lucky felt that she was safe for him to approach. He scurried over, squeaking and chattering a greeting, but the houndour still didn't notice him until he was practically right in front of her, and she hopped back away from the unfamiliar pokemon with a startled yap.
At first, her hackles rose and she growled at Lucky, but Lucky, raised around canine pokemon, knew enough about their communication to easily drop into a play-bow that caused her to fall silent and blink in bafflement. It was then that she looked around and noticed that her and the friendly sableye were not alone, spotting Celeste with her new bird friend--she had noticed the houndour's presence, and was keeping an eye on the interaction, but her odd little duet with the pidove had taken priority for the time being--and then the more imposing human and dog further back.
After taking all this in, the houndour looked back at Lucky, and then cautiously lowered herself into a returned play bow. Lucky instantly sprang up to his feet again and took off running back toward the humans, prompting his new playmate to chase him. They raced right past Celeste, who paused in her singing to draw the hand the pidove was perched on a little bit closer in a subconscious protective gesture; the friendly bird didn't seem to be perturbed by the playful creatures, though, and watched them curiously as they bounded over to Blazer.
Up close, it would be clearer that the houndour wasn't a full adult, muzzle still a bit short and ears just a bit too big, needing to be grown into. Lucky chattered up at Blazer with invitations to play, while the houndour threw herself much more enthusiastically into another bow, before they both went racing off again in the hope that the much larger dog would chase them. Not that either had a hope of outrunning him, but it was all in fun.
Celeste found herself trying to catch the man's gaze with her own--only now did it occur to her that they hadn't exchanged names, but now felt like an awkward time to try a belated introduction--as she gave a small giggle at the antics of the pokemon, inviting him to join in her mirth.

Ty shook his head lightly as she continued singing and walking, and he and Blazer exchanged glances a few times, almost as if one knew what the other was thinking. Though, as long as they'd been together, that was very possible. Personally, Ty was amused by this silly, almost naive-seeming woman, though at the same time, he was intrigued.
She was charming the Pidove, it seemed, while the Sableye was going after the Houndour, and...playing? That Houndour...it reminded him so much of Spitfire...He wiped a stray tear from his scarred eye as the two made their way over to them, and ultimately, Blazer. Blazer found his tail wagging as he looked over at Ty, and Ty couldn't hold back the smile that brought him back to the good old days.
The days that were never coming back. But...this was nice. He nodded at the Arcanine, who bounded after the Houndour, chasing them, but not at full gait.
He exchanged gazes with the woman, but folded his arms across his chest, trying to maintain that badass aura he had going on, though if she'd paid any attention the past few minutes, that air was likely shattered by now.

Blazer had joined them, and now the chase was truly on.
Lucky knew he wouldn't be allowed to go far, due to Celeste's protective nature, but he was quite familiar with where the line was, and so he skittered around on all fours, almost spider-like, zigging and zagging all throughout the invisible 'bubble' that made up his playground. He darted about, his gemstones gleaming, and made all manner of giddy chatters and squeaks as he did so. The wild houndour, while having a faster running speed, was significantly less agile, but she nevertheless made a valiant effort to follow her strange playmate as they both tried to stay ahead of the larger dog. She stumbled over her oversized puppy paws a few times, but it didn't deter her any, and she let out a few barks as she ran; what hesitation she'd had melted away by this point, seeing Lucky and Blazer as nothing less than new friends.
When the man crossed his arms at her, Celeste rolled her eyes slightly with a small, playful smile on her lips. Well fine, be that way, but he couldn't fool her. He had clearly proven himself to be a big softy. She turned her attention back to the pidove as the other pokemon frolicked, placing her pokeball back on her belt so that she had her other hand free. Carefully, ready to pull back if the contact was unwanted, she moved to gently stroke the little bird's breast feathers with a fingertips, earning another soft coo in response as the wild pokemon looked up at her with eyes that were so very trusting.
There's always so much trust from them...Until someone breaks it...
...I won't let that happen to you, little one.
"You're awfully friendly, aren't you?" she said softly, words filled with affection. "It's odd seeing you all alone out here. Were you looking for some company?" A small giggle escaped her. "Or did you just like the music?" The way the pidove paused and tilted his head before cooing seemed to say, to her, that it'd maybe been a bit of both. "Well...I'd be happy to keep you company, and sing for you more, if you'd like me to."
Celeste tapped on the pokeballs at her other hip, the one that had empty ones, hoping that her meaning was understood. The pidove followed her gaze down to them, before looking up at her face again, and the coo sounded...thoughtful? Celeste bit her lip nervously as the little bird seemed to be mulling it over, and her heart briefly sank as the pidove flapped his wings and took off...
Only to land again, on her shoulder, and coo once more. Celeste fought down the urge to squeal with glee, just barely, and she plucked one of the empty pokeballs to reach up and gently tap him with it.
The flash of light from the pokeball caught Lucky's attention, making him pause and look over. Unfortunately, the houndour didn't notice, and couldn't stop in time, resulting in the two small pokemon colliding with a yelp and a hiss, and going tumbling along the sidewalk. When Blazer no doubt caught up with them, Lucky was in the midst of righting himself, rubbing his head, while the houndour was lying on her back and flailing her paws in the air in a less-successful effort to do much the same.

Watching his overgrown fire-pup play with the Sableye and the Houndour really brought Ty back. Back to a time when he was a little less....scorned. When life at least somewhat made sense. The girl's playful smile made a grin of his own stretch across his lips. This was rather amusing, he had to admit.
His attention was turned to the woman and the Pidove, though they really weren't his Pokemon of choice. However, he was realizing his taste was starting to change, shifting from the fire-dominant preference from mere years ago. She was sweet talking the bird, and it was working--and it proved successful when she pulled out a ball and managed to take the little birdie with her. His smile grew a little wider, but he managed to choke it back for his more serious expression. Emotions were icky, after all. You show your emotions and you only set yourself up for getting hurt.
"Nice work," he said with a nod."It's nice to see a more delicate touch, as opposed to my usual battle, then befriend tactic."
