Shit... this is going to hurt Scolipede but hang in there... With a grimace, Anna warped the music again with her headphones, indicating another desperate change in tactics. Without hesitation Scolipede obeyed the music change, tucking and rolling as it had done before as it came down from the Megahorn, tensing it's side hard to absorb a great deal of the impact of the strike. Yet Anna knew that with how buffed Toxicroak was that still had to have hurt. Bad.
Scolipede rolled forward in it's tucked state, barely stopping itself as it almost crashed into the side of the Pokemon Center. Not that Anna would care much if the rich snobby assholes got a hole in their wall but Scolipede had gone through enough; crashing through a brick wall probably wouldn't help matters. She could see him heaving and panting, almost shaking. It was clear that he'd only be able to make one more dodge that dynamic if he pushed himself, any more and he'd most likely pass out. Taking a deep breath in determination it surged forward again, ramming it's head down to strike at Toxicroak one more time with it's horn, willing to sacrifice itself for the good of the team. Anna almost felt a tear come to her eye as her Scolipede proved just how reliable and loyal it was.

So she was stickin in there for the long haul huh? Mia supposed it was admirable. A fair few trainers woulda known their defeat was coming and taken the hit and saved their pokemon a prolonged sense of torment, but it seemed Anna was at least playing it smart in that respect. If she went down right away when it was on the cards, Mia would have came out of it with a less exhausted Toxicroak and a potentially less hurt one too.
"Well you two are certainly determined I'll give you that, but let's see what you can do when you're on the backfoot! Jack! Dodge again then hit 'em with the final blow!"
Letting out a growl like ribbit this time the Toxicroak used his frog legs to leap over the incoming Megahorn, pulling an arm back and aiming to land a poison jab square on the head of the charging scolipede, before landing behind it and doing the same to it's backside, almost certain he could finish it off this time!

Anna let out a small grunt of frustration as she realized Scolipede wasn't going to last much longer, knowing she'd have to give him a lot of recovery time and treats after this one. He deserved it wholeheartedly, considering how tenaciously he had fought, but it was pretty much time for him to just give up, it didn't matter how much determination you have, at some point your body just gives out.
That didn't mean he wouldn't go down without a fight. Indeed Scolipede managed to weave around the first strike by twisting it's body, before the second blow to it's back finished it off, causing it to tense and then slump to the ground, panting and dragging itself until finally darkness clouded it's vision and Scolipede slipped into unconsciousness. A red flash returned it to it's Pokeball, Anna taking a moment to stare at the shiny surface in appreciation for her oldest friend, her most staunch ally. It was time to avenge him.
With a quick flick of her wrist an eery darkness emerged from a pokeball on her waist, forming into the smiling mass of a Haunter, snickering and sneering at it's opponent across the battlefield. After Scolipede's effort Anna was not going to pull any punches or sugarcoat anything. This was war now, this was personal. She switched the music again, Haunter letting out it's sadistic chuckling in response, before opening it's eyes wide, pupils twisting and turning into spirals to try and transfix the Toxicroak, determined to put it to sleep.
Haunter than attempted to reach into it's mind and pull forth one of it's happy memories, trying to absorb that into himself originally to sustain himself but considering Haunter wasn't tired in the slightest right now, it was more of a malicious attack. This was followed by an eery ball of ghostly energy, shot forward from one of Haunter's floating hands squarely towards the chest of Toxicroak. Anna knew this was a gamble, Haunter wasn't fully evolved yet, but he was her best option right now...
[ HP: 100% ] [ DODGES: 4/4 ] [ Scolipede KO ] [ Haunter sent out, then used Hypnosis, then Dream Eater (149.8 - 177.1%; requires Hypnosis), then Shadow Ball (44.9 - 53%) ]

With a smirk as she managed to take down the first of Anna's pokemon, Mia knew she had to maintain the streak. Toxicroak wasn't exactly designed for the long haul so whatever came from the opposing Haunter required Mia's full attention. If she wanted to beat Anna (which despite this being a mock battle, was totally at the forefront of Mia's mind) she needed to stick on the offensive, and was already thinking on how to do so as the Haunter gave it's first attack.
...Yeah if she wanted to stand a chance she HAD to avoid that.
"Jack, you don't wanna be put to sleep right? Avoid that at all cost!"
With a loud ribbit the pokemon shot its arms up into a defensive pose, it's stone edge activating as a defensive wall between himself and the attack. (Sadly that was his only use of the move for the turn). Grimacing a little as he tried to think of a plan, he peaked around the edge of the barrier he'd created to avoid the view of the Haunter, only to get slapped across the face by the shadow ball, growling as he regained his balance and shooting a glare to the opposing ghost.
"Don't get so riled up! It's frail so finish it before it can do any more to you!"
In truth Mia knew Jack probably couldn't finish this in what time he had left but she'd try anyway. The frog rushed in from the first attack, leaping up and slamming down into the earth with a bullet punch, chasing after any attempt the opposing pokemon made to dodge and trying to take it down with a flowing bullet punch to follow up, trying to deal as much damage as he could in the limited time he had, even if he wasn't fully aware of that.

Anna grinned as Haunter gave a pleased little chuckle, clearly amused by Toxicroak's Shadow Ball to the face. Though it would pay for it's momentary amusement considering the speed the fighting frog came around the corner with, forcing Haunter to float above the first punch in desperation, inadvertently putting him in harms way of the second, trying to disperse it's body mass somewhat to avoid the move but unable to do so, hissing from the pain.
It's former smile now replaced with a snarl, Haunter retreated for a moment to regroup and create some distance, before responding to the music once more as Anna had taught it, trying not to get too riled up itself. With a deep sigh to center itself, it struck with a up with another large ghostly orbs of energy to try and smash through the defenses of the already weakened Poison-type.
Anna had the upper hand now, she couldn't let that slip away. However this was still a risk, having Haunter out. His training was incomplete and he was still a little shaky with some of the newer music tracks but he seemed to be holding his own for now. Maybe she'd actually manage to win...

While Toxicroak was clearly growing tired, a dodge of the shadow ball meaning he'd practically run out of places to run, he steeled his fists up and charged in for a trade of blows once again. Mia was already thinking about her third choice since it'd be difficult to pull back from the current state of affairs. Toxicroak was gonna go down either way soon since he was getting worn out, but on the other end that left her and Anna on a level playing field, and the opposing girl seemed to actually be pretty good despite just starting out, even if it was just a mock battle the blonde did not wanna lose.
"Toxicroak, hit it hard and finish it off!"
Rushing in as ordered, the toxicroak zig-zagged towards the haunter, jabbing it quickly from the right with the first bullet punch, jumping from his point of impact be it the haunter or the ground, and following up with a second bullet punch from the air.

Even if the Toxicroak was tired, it was clear it wasn't going to go down without a fight, which Anna definitely respected. In fact she knew Haunter was struggling himself, they seemed somewhat evenly matched considering the circumstances, even with Toxicroak pretty much cornered. As Toxicroak dove forward to strike, Haunter attempted to dodge the strikes but found itself wincing, being struck twice in the face by the steel-coated fist of the exhausted Toxicroak. Anna let out a groan as she realized Haunter was no longer able to battle, returning it to it's Pokeball quickly.
She took a second to think what the best Pokemon to send out next, biting her lip somewhat as she felt a little stumped... but then finally decided on Seviper, tossing him out in a familiar red flash. Not wasting a second it dove forward, not even waiting for the music to change, convulsing it's body to bulk itself up in a strange sort of dance before striking out twice with it's fangs, attempting to clamp down on the Toxicroak's shoulders, muscles in it's jaw pumping as it tried to show it's superiority over the fighting-type.
[ HP: 100% ] [ DODGES: 4/4 ] [ Haunter KO ] [ Seviper sent out, then used Swords Dance (ATK +2), then Crunch twice (26.7 - 31.2%) each ]

With Toxicroak a little too tired to see the dodge as a viable option, the frog pokemon winced as the fangs sunk into it's shoulder, passing out and a flash of red returning him to Mia's gauntlet. Mia wasn't dissapointed in the slightest, but to put this to an end she was gonna use her trump card, punching out her next pick, a scaley dragon pokemon with forearms that could knock down walls, the dragon shaking it's tail as it puffed out it's chest and let out a strong roar.
"Alright Arpegio! Lets put that new trick of yours to use! Devestating drake!"
Mia crossed her chest with one of her gauntlets, a diamond shaped gem on the back glowing up as a stream of energy briefly connected the trainer and pokemon, Mia rearing back, mimicking the roar of her dragon which he himself repeated, a bundle of purple draconic energy pulsing in his maw, before firing up towards the sky, the energy taking the form of a dragon itself, one with a spikey form and immense wings, spiralling in the air for a moment before slamming back down into the ground, releasing an immense explosion of energy that Mia would need to dig her heels in for, otherwise she'd find herself on her ass.

"Devastating Dr- AH!" Crossing her arms quickly to shield her face and head from the energy, she saw Seviper fly straight past her shoulder, the gust of wind that followed the flash of light and heat in the shape of a dragon causing Anna to fall onto her backside and slide back even from such an anchored position, trembling in terror at the display of strength.
As the dust settled and Anna's breathing started to calm, She glanced over to Seviper, who she knew was in no shape to fight any more, having made quite the dent in the Pokemon Center wall also. How? How could this have happened? She was winning! What was that!? Sliding up to her knees, Anna clutched at her headphones, tossing them angrily to the floor and letting out a cry of frustration, punching the earth as she tried to figure out how she was so outclassed. How could Mia be so much better than her? Had she been holding back this whole time? Did she even deserve to be a Gym Leader when she was so utterly outclassed?
Squeezing her eyes shut, Anna sat back on her knees, looking over towards Mia with a defeated expression, lost for words but by no means lost for the feelings of frustration and hopelessness that washed over her. That was just it, wasn't it? She was just... never going to get as strong as that. Some people had a talent for it, a knack that just made them good. In her mind, Anna was forever destined to be the Gym Leader that handed out badges like candy.
"Y-you win..."
[ Fight concluded. Mia is victorious. ]

A little short on breath from the drain the Z move took, Mia was a little distracted by the devestating effect for a moment to notice Anna, looking to the crystal on the back of her gauntlet and watching the color drain from it...she wouldn't be able to use one of those again for a while it seemed. Rolling her shoulder she loosened up and walked up beside her dragon, turning on her heels to give him a hefty high five that came with the clambering of his scales, finally turning her eyes to Anna.
"...Woah woah woah!"
Rushing over, almost skidding on her knees she was that eager to meet Anna's level, resting a hand on her shoulder and letting out a stunned sound, almost a laugh but more shocked than anything, wondering what had caused her to punch the ground like that. "Hey I won this time but it's not like that wasn't a challenge hun...I mean heck I needed to break out a Z move to take you down! You had me on the ropes for a while there!"

"I..." Clenching her fists in the dirt, all that Anna heard in her ears was a distant ringing as so many thoughts raced through her mind. She hadn't been fast enough, she hadn't been strong enough, she hadn't been smart enough... it was all not enough to even put a dent in Mia. How could she call herself a Gym Leader now? When Mia had been holding something like that back...?
"I-I'm not... worthy to face you, Mia... not even close..." Hopping to her feet and dashing off past the Pokemon Center, she returned her Seviper to it's Pokeball as she went, not really sure where she was running to, she just had to get away from her... get away from the woman she had just embarrassed herself in front of. Wiping her eyes as she ran, she didn't look back, not even for a second. She couldn't face her anymore... she couldn't face her until she had proven her worth...
Until she had gotten stronger...
