Having gotten to know Anna a little since she'd joined the league, Mia had been teasing the girl with the idea of them doing battle and seeing who came out on top. Now, being the more experienced of the two Mia had no doubt she would win, at least for now given her years of experience taking on challengers (all 3 of them). So, for now, she'd invited Anna for a mock battle, picking a pokecentre not too far from her gym, and using the training arena to the side of it (basically the equivalent of people having a basketball court).
"Well she should be here soon, you game for going first?" Mia's Hitmonchan Broham gave a small nod, it had been a while since he'd gotten some real action so he was eager to show what he could do and some moves he'd been training. Mia was eager to see how she herself would do as well, not to mention Anna. The league had some new battle regulations, so she was sure it'd take her some getting used to to make sure she didn't break any rules.

An equal mix of nerves and determination flowed through Anna as she made her way towards the battle, giving a particular sharp clarity to the world. This was something she had wanted for weeks now, to have a battle with her idol, the woman she looked up to so much. And yet, she knew she was nowhere near the level of Mia. She knew she was going to lose, that she was going to be humiliated.
But she had to try, right? She had to storm forward on a surge of power and intensity, to show Mia that she was no pushover, that she was to be respected as a fellow Gym Leader. With a determined huff she rounded the corner, stepping up towards the rather grandiose Pokemon Center with the stone field next to it, something that was rather rarely used in her experience. Even with all of the travelers passing through Caravella, not many stuck around for a battle or two. The disapproving looks must be too much to bear for outsiders.
Nodding towards her prospective opponent, a red flash indicated the arrival of Scolipede, letting out a loud chittering sound, eager to prove it's strength after being in it's Pokeball for quite a while now. "You ready Mia? I'm not gonna go easy on you just because you're my idol, y'hear?" With a grin, she turned her headphones to speaker mode, preparing the song she'd need, while Scolipede'd chittering got quieter as it focused.

Spotting Anna round the corner, Mia smirked a little, pumping out her arms so her Gauntlet's took form and Broham stepped up to his side of the field, the blonde trainer taking a stance similar to the pokemon himself, a tactic she performed to make sure she had a good sense of what her pokemon could do from whatever position he was in, cause if she didn't feel she could pull it off, how could she expect him to do the same? Especially given most of her fighting pokemon had humanoid forms and limitations.
"Heh, I wasn't expecting any special treatment, just don't expect me to go easy cause you're so new to the game either!~"
With a cheeky smile Mia mirrored Broham's punches, just a little "show" for the two to loosen up and get in Sync, the boxing pokemon hopping left and right as it prepared for whatever the opposing insect had to bring to the table.

"I'd be insulted if you did go easy on me, blondie! Let's go!" Giving a little chuckle at the show, Anna closed her eyes and stepped backwards, breathing deeply and pressing the button on her headphones to start the music. Scolipede immediately fell into a battle-ready position, lowering itself for combat as the music started, Anna remaining with her eyes closed for now, trying to calm herself. This was it. She was going to prove herself here and now.
Having prepared them earlier, Scolipede's first move was to cover the ground in needle-like poisoned spikes, making sure that no matter what Pokemon Mia sent out next, it would feel the sting of it's poison points. Needless to say Scolipede took a lot of pride in how quickly it was able to project those deadly spines, scattering them into the air and causing them to land point up like caltrops.
Then, with an almighty heave, Scolipede projected a great deal of viscous purple liquid that sizzled and bubbled as it flew through the air towards it's target, clearly a fast-acting and deadly poison. His quickness was definitely something Anna noticed he had been building, intending to overwhelm opponents with sheer speed and tenacity while eroding their health with his poison. Much different to Anna's usual style, but something she could most certainly see the value in.
It's final move was to leap forward, chittering loudly as it struck hard towards the humanoid Pokemon with it's horn, bursting upwards with the speed and force of a train, determined to at least push the Hitmonchan back.

(sorry if my posts are a bit lackluster, gonna focus mainly on learning the battle system in action myself) Right, that was a good opening volley and something Mia was gonna have to deal with quickly. The scolipede was fast and Mia couldn't afford to waste Broham's energy dodging too much...Right. Clenching her fists, she and Broham decided to take the opening Volley to save their chances at a dodge for later. Taking toxic would put them on a timer, but if they handled this right they could push on the advantage! Mia's ThemeWith the caltrops littered around his feet, the Hitmonchan rushed through the incoming toxic, grunting as the toxins seeped into his skin, throwing out his arms he'd bulk up his defenses for the incoming Megahorn, raising them up in defense again as the Scolipede rushed in with Megahorn, meeting it in the middle of the field and raising his arms to defend himself, grimacing against the impact despite even raising his defenses. "Alright we've got full reign! Take the offensive!" With a nod from behind his arms the Hitmonchan confirmed the order, Kicking back from the initial attack, he rushed in just as quickly, his fist coated in a steel like sheen as it rushed in fast, slamming hopefully hard into the Scolipede, ducking to the side and swiping his arm across his body, a barrage of earth and rocks appearing from thin air rushing towards the Scolipede. Hitmonchan 70% TOX ATK 1 DEF 1 Took Toxic Used Bulk up Took Mega horn for decreased damage Used bullet punch (priority) ( 22.9 - 27.2%) Used Rock slide ( 71.2 - 84.2%)

Thoroughly impressed with the amount of force the Hitmonchan was capable of virtually shrugging off, Anna furrowed her brow somewhat, touching her fingers to her ear to turn the music track like a turntable, signalling for Scolipede to change tactics. In response it twisted it's body against the oncoming punch, tensing it's muscles to encouraging a glancing blow like a sloped wall against a cannon. The punch struck like a gunshot against Scolipede's braced hide, Anna realizing that even though he had reduced the damage somewhat, it was still painful.
With a loud chittering, Scolipede leaped into the air, using the momentum of it's heavy horned head to rotate and spin, sailing high over the rocks and striking down hard once more with it's horn, trying to pummel and wear down it's opponent. Anna knew Bug-type moves weren't particularly effective against Hitmonchan, but the sheer power of Scolipede she hoped would make up for it.
[ HP: 87% ] [ DODGES: 5/6 ] [ Took Bullet Punch for decreased damage, then Dodged Rock Slide, then Megahorn (21.5 - 25.7%) utilized. ]

The Hitmonchan and even Mia herself were shocked by how agile and quick the Scolipede was, but its efforts to dodge had somewhat left it open to a counter attack. With his opening volley Broham had forced the Scolipede onto the defensive, and now he just had to keep it there while dishing some damage of his own. Bulking up once again, he lifted his hands and grasped the incoming horns. The force pulsed through his arms but he managed to toss the scolipede aside, taking a deep breath before pounding his fists together, ready to keep on with the offensive, even as the earlier toxic stung through his veins.
"Alright, hit it hard and fast! Deal with those spikes while you're at it!"
Knowing any effort to dodge the rock slide would be his opponents priority, Broham rushed in again, slamming a hard bullet punch towards the opposing Scolipede, before following up with a spinning roundhouse style punch to come after. While the punch itself was not too strong, the wind generated by the sudden spin blew a majority of the caltrops off the field, rendering them useless.
Hitmonchan 40% TOX ATK 2 DEF 2 Bulk up used Took Megahorn Used Bullet punch again 25.6 - 30.2% Used Rapid spin, Toxic spikes cleared 13 - 15.3%

Sensing her advantage despite the defensive plays from Scolipede, Anna switched her song quickly, choosing something she hadn't used in quite a long time both as a counter to this situation but also to test if Scolipede could remember the movements as fluidly as she wanted. Her grin widened as the Hitmonchan forcibly increased it's muscle-mass again, clearly expecting another Megahorn or other physical attack.
Scolipede skidded to a halt about 10 feet away, having been tossed by the incredible strength of the Hitmonchan but rolled quickly to it's feet, hissing in frustration as it charged for him again, tensing up once more to encourage a glancing blow from the punch. Anna winced as she heard the thud of impact on Scolipede's hard shell, knowing that even with the tensing it would still bruise and cause some pretty bad damage considering how jacked up the Hitmonchan now was.
In retaliation to the punch and the subsequent spinning strike that came after, Scolipede spat a hissing liquid at close range to it's opponent's chest, knowing that the rather oily substance would hurt so much more considering the poison already flowing through him. Anna almost felt bad, knowing how much pain Hitmonchan must be in. She'd have to make sure and give them both treats or something after this, both Pokemon deserved it. And with the chittering growing louder by the second, Scolipede rippled it's body, using the momentum to scatter yet more toxic spikes around the arena, virtually out of spite for the Fighting-type's removal of them.
[ HP: 59% ] [ DODGES: 5/6 ] [ Took Bullet Punch for decreased damage again, then used Venoshock (33.6 - 39.8%), then Toxic Spikes. ]

Crap. Venoshock. Even with the Scolipede being on the defensive a move like that was forcing Mia to dodge. The Hitmonchan needed to make sure it was starting to land some more destructive blows, but at the same time both of them were wondering if he had the capacity to finish the opposing pokemon off before he had to switch out...
"Alright, dodge the Venoshock and use mind reader!"
With a grunt in response the boxing pokemon dipped to the right of the blasting venom attack, knowing how devestating it'd be in his current condition and not about to risk it. His arm reared back, but rather than flowing into a punch he put his hands out like someone lining up a shot with a camera, using mind reader to focus his next attack. He'd make a few weaving and ducking motions to follow, before catching the Scolipede in a position that would make it hard to dodge what came to follow, slamming out a heavy punch into the air as it was followed by a barrage of earth in the form of another rock slide.
32% TOX ATK 2 DEF 2 Used a dodge for venoshock Used mind reader Used rock slide 95 - 111.8%

Grinning, Anna could feel the desperation in Hitmonchan's movements, like a countdown ticking away as it slowly got weaker and weaker. All Anna had to do was stop it from landing one solid hit on Scolipede. Keep it moving, keep the poison coursing through it's veins until it could no longer continue. And as much as her heart bled for the pain the poor Pokemon must have been in, her competitive nature was starting to overtake that sympathy.
A surge of panic shot through her heart though as the barrage of rocks was clearly angled in such a way as to prevent Scolipede from avoiding it. There was no way he could escape the attack, so he would have to match Hitmonchan's strength with it's own. With a chittering roar, the giant centipede Pokemon tensed and moved it's body to whip it's head forward towards the rocks, sending pebbles and splinters in all directions as they crumbled beneath the intense physical power of Scolipede's horn.
In retaliation it shot another quick volley of venom, materializing as two shots of oily purple liquid, designed to shock the target's system into shutting down, forcing the poison to act faster, be more deadly than it already was. Scolipede moved back, out of range of the Hitmonchan's punches, trying to draw out every second and force the Fighting-type to weaken itself over time.
[ HP: 59% ] [ DODGES: 4/6 ] [ Blocked Rock Slide with Megahorn, then used Venoshock twice (33.6 - 39.8% each). ]

Mia grit her teeth a little, her brow furrowing as she realized she was inbetween a rock and a hard place. Maybe it was just the type matchup, or maybe she and Broham really were a little out of practice. Well that was certainly a kick to the gut...nonetheless, she had to make sure she made up for it now. With two attacks Broham wasn't fast enough or in good enough shape to avoid both.
"Sorry man, think you're gonna have to take one for the team here."
With a nod and a grimace the Hitmonchan held up it's arms, taking both Venoshocks with as little agony as he could and going down for the count. With a retracting motion of her Gauntlet, the pokemon was absorbed back into the pokeball on her wrist and Mia's following punch sent out it's replacement.
"I think I should try fighting more on your terms Anna! Meet Jack the Ribber!" With the toxic frog pokemon taking the field, it seemed to practically soak up any of the caltrops it landed on, clearing the field for the pokemon to come next and making a note to finish it's opponent off before it caused any issues. With a fluid, dance like motion it buffed it's attack, it's venom sack inflating to show off it's pride while Taunting the foe, rushing in for the kill to follow with a bullet fast punch right to his insectoid foe!
Broham KO Toxicroak 100% ATK 2 Dodges: 4 Poison types clear toxic spikes when sent out Used Swords dance Used Taunt (Unless you "avoid" the taunt, you can't use status moves for 3 turns) Used bullet punch 25.6 - 30.2%

Anna gave a small smile, both in victory but also in respect for the fallen Pokemon, knowing how much discomfort the boxer had clearly been in. Dipping her head somewhat as the red flash returned it to Mia's gauntlet, she hissed in frustration as the Toxicroak absorbed the spikes Scolipede had previously laid down as it arrived, feeling quite a bit of pride at having the same Pokemon as Mia but at the same time a great deal of frustration that her plan had hit a snag.
She considered simply just returning Scolipede and trying something else but as per the rules of her own Gym, she figured it was disrespectful to refuse a challenge like this under anything but extraordinary circumstances. Yet she could see no real way that Scolipede could win... which meant he would have to just keep chipping away at it for as long as he could.
As the Toxicroak surged forward to strike with it's clearly enhanced strength, Scolipede did what it had done for the previous opponent, tensing it's muscles to create a sloped glancing surface along it's hide. But the strength of the strike still caused the giant centipede to groan in discomfort, seething with fury as the Toxicroak sought to insult him. With a loud chittering it struck upwards with it's horns towards the fellow Poison-type, grunting from the effort as it clearly become more and more tired, before curling it's massive form, tensing and spitting the familiar oily purple liquid Toxicroak as Scolipede abandoned any move that wasn't a direct attack.
[ HP: 44% ] [ DODGES: 4/6 ] [ Took Bullet Punch with reduced damage, was Taunted, then used Megahorn (14.9 - 17.5%) and Venoshock (10 -12%). ]

Smirking a little as she seemed to have the advantage for now, Mia decided to take full advantage of...said...advantage...
She needed to work on her words. It was hard to maintain a badass image if even your own thoughts couldn't maintain the same momentum. Maybe she could get Vesta to just pinch her or something everytime she said dumb shit aloud.
For now though, she had to put her eyes back on the battle. "Alright you can handle those Jack, keep on the offensive! Make it use up it's dodges!" With another loud pulse of it's venom sack the Toxicroak opened it's arms to accept the volley of attacks from the opposing Scolipede, it's powerful horns sending the toxicroak backflipping away, landing a little shaken on his feet, only to swiftly lift his arms, croaking loudly as the Venoshock blasted his system, snickering a little as it lost a fair bit of it's intended sting without him being capable of being poisoned.
"Now! On the offensive before he gets much of a chance to think!"
With a snicker like series of croaks, the fighting pokemon rushed in, swift, zig zag motions action as a swords dance on his approach before a strong kick off the ground sent him over the head of the other pokemon, a purple coated fist rising up only to slam down at where the Scolipede stood, quickly following up with a wide swipe from his other arm, sending a barrage of sharp pillars, shooting out from the ground itself.

Grunting in frustration as she knew her Scolipede was only buying time, there was an unspoken agreement between both trainer and Pokemon that this was going to be for the long haul. Scolipede would keep chipping away as long as it could, keep tiring out the Toxicroak until one of it's teammates could finish it off. It was fast, as was the Toxicroak to be fair, but even Scolipede couldn't survive forever in there.
Undeterred by the morbidity of it's own thoughts and that of it's trainer however, the Scolipede tucked into a ball and rolled quickly, moving quickly out of range of both of it's opponents attacks but wasting a significant amount of energy doing so, clearly tired and worn from a long, drawn out fight. Using what little was left in the tank to it's fullest, Scolipede leaped into the air from it's rolling position, using the momentum of it's head to once again bring it's horn crashing down on it's opponent, looking to crush the Toxicroak with it's sheer weight and body strength.
[ HP: 44% ] [ DODGES: 2/6 ] [ Dodged both Poison Jab and Stone Edge, then used Megahorn (14.9 - 17.5%) ]

"Alright! We're in a position to finish them off! Get out of the way and save yourself for the next round!"
With a snickering ribbit the Toxicroak pumped its arms to it's side, making a shifting motion as it feinted the Scolipede on the direction ti was going to go before ducking into the opposite, rolling aside as the other pokemon charged past with it's megahorn, with the Toxicroak following up with a hard strike to the insect's side, it's fist coated in toxins and the thorn like "talon" on the back of it's fist hoping to strike down hard into the other pokemon.
"Now! Dip around it and go for another strike! Keep it on it's toes!"
Following the other pokemon wherever it went after the first attack, the Toxicroak leaped over it and behind it, spinning quickly as he "Jabbed" with his foot this time, essentially attemtping a poison kick to the ass!
