{mission details} Mission name: Beyond the Mind Participants: Kristina Spawning?: 3 Word Count spawns (500-600 words) of mental-kinetic tasks; the mod may make them as obscure and humorous as you want.
Mission details: Kris has started to notice that sometimes, not always, if she's focusing hard on something, it will wobble for a few seconds. As she is aware of her own psychic powers and aware that Telekinesis is in fact, a thing, she starts to look into how to grow this power through different tasks. She looks up online different ways to 'train' this power on one's own with varying effectiveness.
New Skill: Telekinesis (Minor) (1) - Kris can carry a few pounds at a moderate pace, or something a bit larger than a Pikachu with some difficulty. Living things can resist being moved this way. Up to 10lbs (4.5kg) can be carried pretty comfortably; 10-15lbs (4.5-7kg) may cause some strain and headaches if sustained for long, and 15-20lbs (7-9kg) is most Minors' limit, movement being slowed greatly and only able to be maintained in short bursts. Furthermore, focus may only comfortably be split between about 5-10 objects. Weeeeehhhhhhh. Scrolling through site after site, Kris became more and more aware that her questions were probably not going to be answered very easily. She guessed as much considering how few human psychics were in the world and what little evidence there was in regards to them but weeeeeeeehhhhhhhhhh why did this have to be so hard? Sitting back from her computer and pinching between her eyes, the girl took a slow, uncertain breath.
Ok, ok. Telekinesis was totally a thing. In all types of fiction, this was A Thing. Psychic Pokemon could even do something similar in regards to an attack so… So this made perfect sense if she could. But it's happening to meeeeeee. Ok, ok calm down. It had only happened what? Two or three or four or five times now? No one had noticed during any of those times either right? Right? Why was… this actually worrying her more than encouraging her? As if she didn't already know the answer.
Golden eyes flickered back to the computer screen. She guessed… she could just scroll through things people had supposedly tried and then try them for herself, right? How hard could it be?

All Kris's efforts finally produce some results, and someone has listed as a beginner exercise to start small and work one's way up to slightly less small than that. Some suggestions include beads and trinkets of different sizes, grapes and/or berries, small plastic toys, etc. Either way, the exercise suggests focusing on the smallest thing one can find-- a crumb to start if need be-- and try to lift it one inch before setting back down. Repeat this several times, then try to lift it and move it to the side a few inches. If the psychic can manage this, they should move on to the next object up and do the same things, eventually moving up to something around the size of an apple tops. When the Psychic is able to handle all the objects, the instructions suggest starting over (perhaps after a break) trying to lift each 2-3 inches and then move farther to the side, or maybe move in a circle in the air instead, and gradually increase as such. - 500 words -

Hmmmmmmm. Start small. Kris could start small as she was small, yeah! What small things did she have in her room that were smol enough, though? Yellow eyes flickered up to her desk and shelves scanning over old books, textbooks, manga, and toys. Her seemingly endless collection of posed figurines might be good to try once she had gotten the hang of it, but they ranged anywhere from eight inches to sixteen and were much too heavy to start off with.
Hmm, maybe her makeup and accessories box had something small enough? Shifting up off the bed, Kris wandered over to it, carefully opening the doors and then pulling the shelves out gently. Her makeup brushes and stylers were much too heavy, as were her earring pieces and necklaces. It was weird how easily their weight was forgotten until she was specifically measuring it. Setting down a couple of pieces, she pulled open a drawer and- oh? Why did she have a single cent mun in here from Hoenn? Would… was this to heavy still? Maybe being made of metal. Returning it, she suddenly stopped again at her makeup brushes. Oh! Oh, she could just.. pull a single fiber off the tail, and it would be fine, right? Carefully curling her nail into it, she managed to break it off. Victory!
…Now came the actual hard part, didn't it? Checking her computer again, Kris carefully laid the fiber on the bed and laid down in front of it. Now just…. try and lift it, somehow. Somehow… A slow breath drew in and out of Kris. The fiber waved, but she was vaguely aware that was from said breath. Ok, ok, just focus, right? How had she accidentally done that before? She just… needed to figure out how, exactly. Yellow eyes held the fiber rather hard.
A minute passed. Three minutes passed. Five minutes still. And nothing. Gritting her teeth, Kris sat back and ruffled her hair a bit. Why was this so hard? What was she doing wrong (if anything?)
And then right then a flashing image, a reflection in her mind of minutes into the future, reverberated in Kris's mind's eye. It's … literally like stretching out metal arms… Inspiration that she would not recognize as her still growing Future Sight would have Kris sitting upright. That was… that was it, wasn't it? Yellow eyes stared down at the fiber, and she drew in a slow breath, imagining mental hands reaching out to grasp the brush fiber.
Twitch. The fiber fidgeted, shifted, and not from Kris's breath. Slowly Kris mentally pulled it up, willing it to rise, and with this came the actual levitation of the fiber. It hung in the air, barely an inch from the bed, but it was there. "I did it!" Kris squeaked only for the fiber to fall back down to the bed again. O-oh. Shoot, she guessed she needed to-
"M-ma'am?" Kris's eyes flashed to the maid poking her head in the door. "Are … is something going on in here?"
Kris's lips pressed together before folding into a smile. "Nothing~ I just finally beat a level on my game," she answered. The maid gave a small nod, asked that she call if necessary, and then disappeared again. Kris refocused once more, raising the fiber up carefully again and again. She could do this. She could do this.
An hour passed and then another. She moved on from raising up brush fibers to coins. From coins to some things found in her jewelry box. Another couple of hours passed, and she was lifting the jewelry pieces a little higher and circling. She… may have admittedly gotten tired several times, given up, and surfed the internet for several hours, but within the first day, she'd gotten some semblance of control, at least.
The next few days were a little more strenuous. She didn't have as much time to practice as she would have liked but during work and contest prep, she found some time to work in just small lifts. Berries were kind of cool to lift too since they had sort of different shapes and weights that did weird things. Either way, she was making it.

As Kristina gets the hang of this, some discussion happens on one of the threads she'd been reading. This one seems to focus on young Pokemon rather than human psychics, though who knows if any of the participants are secretly speaking from experience. Regardless, one particular suggestion that pops up on the thread is to buy a small stack of circular magnets, including a link to a cheap listing online, though it might be faster to find a local store in that chain if they carry them. The stack comes with 10 circular magnet discs, each a little less than 2 cm across and roughly 0.5 cm thick. They aren't too heavy but won't be blown away by a light breeze either, and the magnetism in them is only around the grade of a weak to medium ish fridge magnet, so they're pretty easy to pry apart. The poster suggests starting with two stuck together, lifting them, and adding one at a time to increase weight gradually and consistently. For a little extra fun and practice, one can lay the magnets out in a row and telekinetically float the others above each one to have them jump up and join their mates, a trick both amusing and useful in that it changes the weight mid-hold, helping beginners learn to account for dynamic circumstances. Another exercise includes starting with two magnets and trying to pry them apart mid-air to learn to manipulate things, as well as trying to hold two or more at a time to practice dividing focus, and to practice holding two near-ish each other as another dynamic exercise, trying to fight the attraction or repulsion. Wow, there's a lot to be done with these! -550 words-

Ooh? This was really neat wasn't it? Despite living in Faraday, Kris hadn't even really thought about magnets or magnetism as part of an exercise until that suggestion came about. Considering the floating islands were such a commodity and source of revenue for the city, it was not hard to find a similar (if a bit more expensive) set of magnets at an online store. Rather than order them in, she simply had one of her mom's servants go pick it up for her, and it was in her hands in no time.
….Hm…. these were… actually a little bigger than the description online, weren't they? O-oh well. Hopefully they would still work well enough?
Yellow eyes reflected the post for a moment, reading the description over again before nodding a little. Sticking two together, Kris set them down on her desk and slowly drew up that psychic power yet again. It… came easier now, and they lifted with some reasonably consistent force. There, not too bad, was it? Not too too bad. A knock on the door immediately had them slamming on her desk again, and Kris fumbled before asking whoever it was to come in.
Oh… oh hi Mom. What did she want? Oh. She guessed… she could do this later if that was what she really wanted of her. Kris put them away for now and went out with her mother to be tromped around by the paparazzi. It wasn't terrible but… did remind her of how secretive she wanted to be- to stay. This could never get out. Never ever.
She closed the drapes and turned on a bunch of low lights on getting back to her room. She assured the servants that she was studying and needed some peace and quiet to do so. It was only then that she started again, working up her mental faculties to get this done. She needed to get this done. A slow breath, and two magnets floated up again in unison. She moved them around, up and down side to side, and then in a circular motion. Another magnet was added, and the extra weight may have had her fumbling a little before actually getting the hang of it. This was… not too bad actually. She practiced with a fourth and would steadily add more and more through the next week's practices. This wasn't bad at all was it?
At least until everyone seemed to start walking into her room unprompted. It was… starting to annoy her deeply. Their thoughts were starting to annoy her deeply. And she begged and prayed and hoped and wished they would just leave her alone instead of… asking what she was doing and silently judging her when she didn't react fast enough. She was aware that her mom was suspicious of her intentions, but from her surface thoughts alone, it didn't seem like she had any inclination of Kris's true motives.
She wanted to keep it that way, Kris realized. This was her power and no one else's.
And she was having fun with it now and again? She'd started practicing the little techniques of sorts including the floating practice and the magnet 'flying'. It startled her more times than she would like to admit to (and repeatedly, somehow). As she started to try and pry them apart, however, she found it much harder to do. Lift it? Sure, move it? Sure. Collect more? Yep- but separating the two and dividing her attention was… very difficult. And yet… she kept trying. Each tiny magnet would be pulled apart slowly with enough intent and work. She was not about to give up! She promised! Herself too-
And then, one day, it happened. It was as if all of her self-practice and testing paid off. Not only was she able to lift all ten magnets, she was able to pull them apart and … keep them all floating? For a couple of seconds before they dropped and startled her again, but still. She started… doing another round of exercise that included lifting several at once and moving one magnet from another. That was harder still, but she was improving. She was.

Kris's final point of inspiration would come not from careful research or well-meaning resource blogs, oh no. It would come in the form of a viral video she could not scroll five minutes without seeing again. Some arrogant dudebro is showing off to his friends and trying to pick up chicks, and his behavior and words and everything are so gross, but everyone sharing it keeps talking about his mad skills.
As it turns out, he seems like a pretty terrible person and terrible at flirting, but he appears to be very skilled with Telekinesis, or else at camera trickery to make it look like it, but the people around him seem to have pretty genuine reactions. He performs a number of elaborate gestures and patterns with PokeBalls, as well as releasing and recalling Pokemon in interesting ways. All the while, he gives a snobbish attitude that this is kid stuff, and real Telekinesis user should be able to pull off simple moves like these~
Well, he kind of sounds like a douche, but that also sounds like a challenge. Maybe if Kris can mimic some of the moves and showmanship, it will help her get the hang of more complex multitasking. Or just prove he's not as great as the comments keep making him sound.

Arceus good lord. Kristina loved and hated the internet. This newest sensation was driving her up and down the wall, and he was everywhere????? All over her message boards, story boards, and social media channels. All over her special interest pages and niche subject spaces. Why was she getting emails about him?? Why was everyone so interested in such a horrible man talking to women like that?
Kristina knew why, and she hated it. She hated it so very much. It wasn't right. Ugh but it was the nature of the internet. Someone was bound to be popular and…. and she …. She guessed seeing someone use Telekinesis was a rare sight to be seen- even though she could do it. She could do it? Maybe? How many Pokeballs did he lift up? Ten- ten Pokeballs in total, granted he seemed to be picking them up and putting them down at different intervals. They were light, some closed into their small form while others expanded. Theoretically that … probably wouldn't change things too much, actually- they … should be the same weight just switching density. Right?
So apparently here she was sitting on the floor of her room slowly lifting up a Pokeball with her mind. One and then… she struggled a little but managed to get two in the air. And then three. Focus…. C'mon focus…. She mentally willed all three of them into a circle, spinning around in a fluid way before being held stagnantly in the air. Kris's features twitched as she mentally 'pressed' the button on one of the spheres, enlarging it to the regular size of a Pokeball and- oh dear that entire 'shift' was weird and uncomfortable, and she nearly dropped it right then. Oh wait, no she did sort of drop it when the other two hit the floor seconds later. Kris winced briefly. At least it was carpet and little probability that anyone downstairs actually heard.
Another slow breath. She raised one this time only, enlarging it and shriking it with her own power. This was… not actually so hard so long as he only focused on one. Tossing it up, she even released her Togepi briefly causing the baby to blink in confusion. A small giggle escaped from Kris as she coaxed the creature into her lap again before refocusing on the Pokeballs. One Pokeball. Two Pokeballs. Red Pokeballs. Blue Pokeballs. She raised and moved them about, much more confident in her power now. A trill of her Togepi, however, had them dropping pretty quickly.
O-oh…. She'd nearly forgotten about distractions if she ever wanted to do this properly. Shaking her head, she did her best to focus and shift around the Pokeballs. Her Togepi trilled again excited to see the floating spheres, but Kris's focus wouldn't break so easily this time. She raised a second Pokeball, enlarging and shrinking it while also keeping the other hovering. Then a third. Then a fourth. In the course of a couple of hours, her precision and mental faculties only strengthened more and more. This was not hard once she practiced, once she really, truly practiced. She had this!
